Significant variations in global temperatures and weather patterns over time are known as climate change.Although it occurs naturally,human activities—particularly the burning of fossil fuels,deforestation,and indust...Significant variations in global temperatures and weather patterns over time are known as climate change.Although it occurs naturally,human activities—particularly the burning of fossil fuels,deforestation,and industrial processes—are accelerating these changes,which have various detrimental effects on the environment.This review aims to highlight the edapho-climatic requirements of this cactus and the advantages and challenges of its cultivation to mitigate climate change.The prickly pear cactus is a plant with numerous financial and environmental advantages.It needs well-draining,sandy or gravelly soil to avoid root rot and do best in full sun.With a strong tolerance for dryness,they thrive in arid or semi-arid regions with scorching summers and prefer sparing watering.Despite being suited to tropical climates,some species can tolerate freezing temperatures and sporadic frost.Once established,these hardy plants require little care and thrive in nutrient-poor soils,which makes them perfect for xeriscaping or challenging growing environments.Because of its high water use efficiency ratio and low water requirements,prickly pear can be grown in marginally dry and semi-arid areas.The cactus does contribute to the ecological and socioeconomic fight against climate change.For instance,it supports sustainable agriculture,biodiversity preservation,soil restoration,carbon sequestration,and effective water usage.Demarcating dry and semi-arid zones and fostering employment in these areas is beneficial from a socioeconomic standpoint.The prickly pear’s traditional cultural heritage supports its current economic function as a crop that can withstand drought.While ecological threats necessitate balanced management,this adaptability promotes sustainable growth.Innovations in bioenergy and value-added goods build on its historical applications,increasing its socioeconomic advantages and,eventually,its worldwide significance.展开更多

Both mulberry(Morus alba) and Chinese prickly ash(Zanthoxylum bungeanum) are AM-associated plants, widely distributed in southwest China. It was hypothesized that if the nutrient absorption processes were efficiently associated with AM symbiosis in both mulberry and Chinese prickly ash, foliar nutrient concentrations—especially calcium(Ca)—would be primarily determined by the soil conditions in different regions. To investigate this, AM colonization levels of soils, nutrient levels in soils and leaves, and δ^(13)C values of leaves were analyzed for mulberry and Chinese prickly ash.In this study, spore density in soils with low p H was higher than that in soils with high p H. The average concentrations of sugar delivered to roots in both mulberry and Chinese prickly ash in soil with relatively low p H and soil extractable cations were higher than those in other areas.The values of foliar δ^(13)C in both mulberry and Chinese prickly ash in low soil-pH and soil extractable cations were lower than those in contrast areas, indicating that water availability was impacted by soil characteristics. The efficiency in AM-mediated processes might play an important role in translocation between soil nutrients and plant tissue.The results suggest uptake and translocation of nutrients,especially Ca, in AM-associated plants may be affected by an efficiency of AM-mediated processes. Since Sr does not appear to be similarly affected, expressing Ca and other nutrient concentrations relative to Sr could be used to evaluate whether the uptake and translocation of Ca and other nutrients are affected by AM-mediated processes.展开更多

Zn(OH)2 precursor was prepared by precipitation process using Zn(CH3COO)2-2H2O in mixed 1-propanol-water solvent. Sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) as the anionic surfactant was added to control the morphology. The size and structure of ZnO prickly spheres were studied using XRD, TEM and SEM. The results showed that the morphologies and size of the spheres strongly depended on the volume ratio of 1-propanol /water and molar ratio of SDS/Zn2+. ZnO prickly spheres composed of nanorods could be obtained, when the volume ratio of 1-propanol/water = 2:3 and the molar ratio of Zn2/SDS= 450:1.展开更多
BACKGROUND Depression is a common,chronic,and recurrent mood disorder that has become a worldwide health hazard.Fluoxetine hydrochloride,a common treatment method,can inhibit 5-hydroxytryptamine(5-HT)recycling in the ...BACKGROUND Depression is a common,chronic,and recurrent mood disorder that has become a worldwide health hazard.Fluoxetine hydrochloride,a common treatment method,can inhibit 5-hydroxytryptamine(5-HT)recycling in the presynaptic membrane;however,the efficacy of a single drug is inadequate.At present,mildto-moderate depression can be treated with acupuncture of ghost caves,but the clinical curative effect of combined therapy with fluoxetine hydrochloride has not been sufficiently reported.AIM To evaluate the clinical effect of acupuncture at ghost points combined with fluoxetine hydrochloride in the treatment of mild-to-moderate depression.METHODS This retrospective study included 160 patients with mild-to-moderate depression who were admitted to Shanghai Hospital of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine,Affiliated to Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine,between January 2022 and June 2023.Patients were separated into a single-agent group(fluoxetine hydrochloride treatment,n=80)and a coalition group(fluoxetine hydrochloride treatment combined with acupuncture at ghost points,n=80).Pre-treatment symptoms were recorded,and the clinical curative effect and adverse reactions[Asberg Antidepressant Side Effects Scale(SERS)]were assessed.Depression before and after treatment[Hamilton Depression Scale(HAMD)-24],neurotransmitter levels[5-HT,norepinephrine(NE),dopamine(DA)],oxidative stress indicators[superoxide dismutase(SOD),malondialdehyde(MDA)],and sleep quality[Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index(PSQI)]were compared.RESULTS The total efficacy rate was 97.50%in the coalition group and 86.25%in the single-agent group(P<0.05).After 2,4,6,and 8 wk of treatment,the HAMD,self-rating depression scale,and SERS scores of the coalition and single-agent groups decreased compared with pre-treatment,and the decrease was more significant in the coalition group(P<0.05).After 8 wk of treatment,the levels of NE,DA,5-HT,and SOD in the coalition and single-agent groups increased,while the levels of MDA decreased;the increases and decrease in the coalition group were more significant(P<0.05).The PSQI scores of the coalition and single-agent groups decreased,and the decrease was more significant in the coalition group(P<0.05).CONCLUSION Acupuncture at ghost points combined with paroxetine tablets can safely improve depressive symptoms and sleep disorders,regulate neurotransmitter levels,and reduce stress responses in patients with mild-to-moderate depression.展开更多
Neonates,especially admitted to neonatal intensive care unit,frequently need various medical interventions in their early days.A common procedure is the heel prick for blood sampling.Although necessary for diagnosis,t...Neonates,especially admitted to neonatal intensive care unit,frequently need various medical interventions in their early days.A common procedure is the heel prick for blood sampling.Although necessary for diagnosis,this procedure can be stressful for neonates,causing pain,extended crying,and discomfort.Reducing distress in neonates during such procedures is important for the well‐being of neonates and the satisfaction of caregivers and healthcare providers.Therefore,this review aims to identify and compare the efficacy of 25%dextrose and breast milk on pain and duration of cry among neonates during heel-lance.As part of its review process,the article examined widely used databases,including PubMed,EMBASE,Cochrane,Academia,and Google Scholar.For the meta-analysis,the authors utilized RevMan 5.4.All eligible trials were analyzed using the Cochrane Risk of Bias Tool to assess the quality of the included studies and evaluate the risk of bias.Out of 131 studies reviewed,seven studies were included in meta-analysis of pain,and four studies were included in duration of cry.The results show that 25%dextrose is more effective to reduce pain among neonates during minor invasive procedure like heel prick(P<0.00001),whereas both interventions are effective in the reduction of crying duration.This review highlights that dextrose is more effective in reducing pain in comparison to breast milk.However,additional well-designed studies with larger sample sizes and extended follow-up periods are needed to validate and build upon the current findings.Hence,this review underscores the importance of utilizing effective pain management strategies,such as 25%dextrose,to enhance neonatal care and improve the overall well-being of newborns during invasive procedures.展开更多

Methods Pricking needling was carried out on the 65 children with func onal dyspepsia on Shàngwǎn(上脘 CV 13),Zhōngwǎn(中脘 CV 12),Xiàwǎn(下脘 CV 10),Guānyuán(关元 CV 4),Tiānshū(天枢 ST 25) at both sides,Zúsānlǐ(足三里 ST 36) at both sides and Sìfèng(四缝 EX-UE 10). The treatments were carried out once every three days for totally three times,and the clinical efficacy was observed. Results Fiftyeight cases were cured,eff ec ve in 7 cases and no invalid case; the cure rate was 89.2% and the total eff ec ve rate was 100%. Conclusion Treatments on pediatric functional dyspepsia by pricking needling with filiform needles are simple and convenient,the therapeutic efficacy is accurate,and it deserves further generaliza on.展开更多
Objective To compare the different efficacy in treating patients with chronic insomnia by pricking,acupuncture and estazolam.Methods Sixty patients were divided into pricking group(group A),acupuncture group(group ...Objective To compare the different efficacy in treating patients with chronic insomnia by pricking,acupuncture and estazolam.Methods Sixty patients were divided into pricking group(group A),acupuncture group(group B) and western medicine group(group C) according to the random number table,with 20 cases in each group.In group A,hook-type needles were applied on Shenmai(申脉 BL 62) and Zhaohai(照海 Kl 6) bilaterally by piercing the skin,a small amount of mucus was squeezed and subcutaneous fibers were broken;in group B,disposable acupuncture needles were applied by needling BL 62 and Kl 6 bilaterally at the depth of 0.5 cun;in group C,patients were asked to take 1 mg estazolam once a day at bedtime.The three groups were observed for 28 days,and Epworth scores and improvement of symptoms in daytime dysfunction were recorded.Results The total effective rate of improvement of symptoms in daytime dysfunction of group A(100%,20/20) was superior to that of group B(70%,14/20),and the differences were statistically significant(P〈0.05);the total effective rates of group A and group B were superior to that of group C(25%,5/20),and the differences were statistically significant(P〈0.01,P〈0.05).In terms of Epworth scores,the efficacy of group A was significantly superior to that of group B(13.35±2.85 vs 11.10±3.88,P〈0.05),the efficacy of group A was superior to that of group C(13.35±2.85 vs 5.30±3.28,P〈0.01),and the efficacy of group B was superior to that of group C(11.10±3.88 vs 5.30±3.28,P〈0.01).Epworth scores significantly decreased in each group after treatment(P〈0.01).Conclusion The therapy of pricking BL 62 and Kl 6 for patients of chronic insomnia was effective,daytime sleepiness was relieved and daytime dysfunctions were improved,and the therapy was superior to estazolam,and more advantageous than acupuncture.展开更多

M...Objective To observe the analgesic effect on herpes zoster treated by the comprehensive therapy of blocking, surrounding needling, pricking and cupping combined with bloodletting at Longyan (龙眼, Extra) acupoint. Methods According to the random mumber table, 104 cases of herpes zoster were randomized into an observation group and a control group, 52 cases in each one. In the observation group, the blocking method was used at the starting site and the ending site of herpetic zone, the surrounding needling method was applied toward the center of the painful zone, with horizontal needling technique; and the local pricking and cupping methods as well as the bloodletting at Longyan (Extra) acupoint were adopted. In the control group, Jiáj (夹脊 EX-B 2) at the corresponding affected nerve segments and the local Ashi points were selected and stimulated with electroacupuncture. The visual analogue scale (VAS) was adopted to determine the analgesic effect 20 min, 1, 6, 12, 24 and 48 h after treatment separately in each group. Results The onset time of analgesic effect in the observation group was shorter than that in the control group and the efficacy time of duration was longer than that in the control group (all P0.05). The analgesic effect and the result of comprehensive efficacy assessment were superior to those of the control group (both P0.05). Conclusion The comprehensive therapy of blocking, surrounding needling, pricking and cupping method combined with bloodletting at Longyan (Extra) achieves the significant analgesic effect on herpes zoster.展开更多

Methods Sixty cases of ocular myasthenia gravis were selected. The acupuncture was applied at Dàzhuī (大椎 GV 14), Bǎihuì (百会 GV 20), Shàngxīng (上星 GV 23) of Governor Vessel, and its crossing points with Yinqiao and Yangqiao Meridian, such as Jīngmíng (睛明 BL 1), shēnmài (申脉 BL 62), Dìcāng (地仓 ST 4), Jūliáo (巨髎 ST 3), Chéngqì (承泣 ST 1 ), etc. Besides, ginger-partition moxibustion was applied at Yángbái (阳白 GB 14) and Sìbái (四白 ST 2). The plum-blossom needle was applied at upper limb distribution of lung channel of hand taiyin, heart channel of hand shaoyin and pericardium channel of hand jueyin. The patients’ clinical symptoms, potential degradation percentages of repetitive nerve stimulation (RNS) in low frequency were observed. Results 8 cases were clinically cured, 20 cases were basically cured, 12 cases were remarkably effective, 15 cases were effective and 5 cases were failed. The total effective rate was 91.7%. Compared with before the treatment, the potential degradation percentages of repetitive nerve stimulation in low frequency were lowered [(19.44±6.28)% vs (8.78±3.12)%, (P0.05)]. Conclusion Acupuncture and moxibustion at extra-meridian and collateral for ocular myasthenia gravis could achieve positive efficacy.展开更多
Objective To compare the difference of therapeutic effects between vessel pricking therapy and Prednisone for treatment of henoch-schonlein purpura nephritis(HSPN).Methods Seventy cases of acute purpura nephritis sy...Objective To compare the difference of therapeutic effects between vessel pricking therapy and Prednisone for treatment of henoch-schonlein purpura nephritis(HSPN).Methods Seventy cases of acute purpura nephritis syndrome were randomly divided into an observation group (40 cases) and a control group (30 cases).Patients in observation group were differentiated into sthenic and asthenic syndromes.Vessel pricking therapy was applied at Hégǔ(合谷 LI 4),Qūchí(曲池 LI 11),Xuèhǎi(血海 SP 10) etc.by three-edged needle for sthenic symptom;shallow needling was used at Píshū(脾俞 BL 20),Shènshū(肾俞 BL 23),Zúsānlǐ(足三里 ST 36) etc.by filiform needle for asthenic syndromes.The control group was treated with oral administration of Prednisone.The symptom score of TCM,24 h urinary protein,red blood cell count of urinary sediment of both groups were observed before and after treatment and therapeutic effects were compared.Results The total effective rate of 92.5%(37/40) in observation group was superior to that of 80.0%(24/30) in control group,and there was a significant difference between two groups (P0.05);the symptom score of TCM,24 h urinary protein,red blood cell count of urinary sediment were all improved in both groups after treatment (all P0.05),and moreover,the improvement in observation group was superior to that of control group (all P0.05);after treatment,the symptom score of TCM of sthenic syndrome was lower than that of asthenic syndrome in observation group (P0.05).Conclusion Vessel pricking therapy has a significant therapeutic effect for treatment of HSPN,superior to that of oral administration of Prednisone,and the therapeutic effect is better for treating sthenic syndrome than for asthenic syndrome.展开更多
Objective:To extract,quantify,and evaluate the phenolic content in Opuntia ficus-indica skin for their antioxidant capacity with three different methods(ABTS,DPPH,and lipid oxidation)and to optimize the extraction con...Objective:To extract,quantify,and evaluate the phenolic content in Opuntia ficus-indica skin for their antioxidant capacity with three different methods(ABTS,DPPH,and lipid oxidation)and to optimize the extraction conditions[time,temperature and ethanol concentration)in a reflux system.Methods:The extraction process was done using a reflux system.A San CristobalⅡexperimental design with three variables and three levels was used.The variables evaluated were time of extraction(h),concentration of ethanol(%,v/v)and temperature(°C).The extraction process was optimized using a response surface methodology.Results:It was observed that at higher temperature more phenolic compounds were extracted,but the antioxidant capacity was decreased.The optimum conditions for phenolic compounds extraction and antioxidant capacity mixing the three methods were as Follows:45%of ethanol,80℃and 2 hours of extraction.Values obtained in our results are little higher that other previously reported.Conclusions:It can he concluded the by-products of Opuntia ficus-indica represent a good source of natural antioxidants with possible applications in food,cosmetics or drugs industries.展开更多
Objective To probe into the impacts on the therapeutic effects and endothelin (ET) in multi-infarct dementia (MID) treated with cluster pricking on head points.Methods 60 cases of MID were randomized into acupunct...Objective To probe into the impacts on the therapeutic effects and endothelin (ET) in multi-infarct dementia (MID) treated with cluster pricking on head points.Methods 60 cases of MID were randomized into acupuncture group and western medicine group,treated with cluster pricking on head points and huperzien A tablet respectively.Plasma ET lever,HDS,ADL and CNFDS (clinical neurological functional defect scoring) were determined before treatment,and the statistical analysis showed that there were no significant difference (P〉0.05).Results In 8-week treatment,ET level in both groups were decreased,but it was decreased much more obviously in acupuncture group,indicating significant difference in the statistical comparison (P〈0.05).The scores of HDS and ADL were all up in acupuncture and western medicine groups,but the significant statistical difference was obtained in the comparison between acupuncture group and western medicine group (P〈0.05).In acupuncture group,the result of CNFDS was much down comparing with that before the treatment,indicating significant difference (P〈0.05);but in western medicine group,there was no significant difference in CNFDS before and after treatment (P〉0.05),suggesting that acupuncture reduces CNFDS of MID patient,neither for western medicine.Conclusion Cluster pricking on head points improves the intelligence of MID patient,reduces ET level and grades up HDS and ADL,moreover,it reduces CNFDS of MID patients and releases the symptoms.展开更多
Objective:To observe effects of pricking blood therapy at meridian sinews on upper limb spasm of poststroke patients.Methods:A total of 72 patients with post-stroke upper limb spasm were randomly divided into a compre...Objective:To observe effects of pricking blood therapy at meridian sinews on upper limb spasm of poststroke patients.Methods:A total of 72 patients with post-stroke upper limb spasm were randomly divided into a comprehensive group of pricking blood therapy at meridian sinews with rehabilitation training(comprehensive group)and the simple rehabilitation training group(rehabilitation group),and there were 36 patients in each group.On the basis of routine therapy,the patients of the two groups received rehabilitation therapy for 6 consecutive days and 1-day rest,for 4 weeks in total.On the above basis,the patients in the comprehensive group received pricking blood therapy at meridian sinews,once every other day,3 times per week,for 4 weeks in total.Before treatment,after the first treatment,and after 4-week treatment,the patients were observed for changes of upper limb spasticity(Modified Ashworth Scale,MAS),upper limb movement function(Fugl-Meyer Assessment,FMA),activity of daily living(Modified Barthel Index,MBI),and biceps and triceps integrated electromyogram(IEMG)values were observed as well as the therapeutic effects.Results:(1)After the first treatment,there were statistically significant differences of the MAS scale grades in patients of the two groups(P<0.05).The FMA scores in the comprehensive group were increased than that before treatment(P<0.05),and the MBI scores of the two groups were increased than those before treatment(both P<0.05).The FMA and MBI scores in the comprehensive group were higher than those of the rehabilitation group(both P<0.05).The biceps and triceps IEMG values were not improved than those before treatment(all P>0.05).(2)After 4-week treatment,there were statistically significant differences of MAS grades in patients of the two groups(P<0.05).The FMA and MBI scores in the two groups were increased than those before treatment(all P<0.05),and the FMA and MBI scores in the comprehensive group were higher than those in the rehabilitation group(both P<0.05).Through comparison of the differences of FMA and MBI scores of the two groups,the difference values in the comprehensive group were higher than those of the rehabilitation group(both P<0.05).The biceps and triceps IEMG values in the two groups were decreased than those before treatment(all P<0.05),and those in the comprehensive group were lower than those in the rehabilitation group(both P<0.05).The biceps and triceps IEMG values in patients of the comprehensive group were higher than those before treatment(both P<0.05).(3)After 4-week treatment,the total effective rate in the comprehensive group was 83.3%(30/36),and that was 58.3%(21/36)in the rehabilitation group.The total effective rate in the comprehensive group was higher than that in the rehabilitation group(P<0.05).Conclusions:The pricking blood therapy at meridian sinews can release affected upper limb flexor muscle spasticity and movement function of the patients with post-stroke upper limb spasm,decrease biceps IEMG values of the affected side,and improve activities of daily living.展开更多

The treatment group was treated with pricking and penetrating moxibustion therapy, the control group with penetrating moxibustion therapy, the treatment was given once every day, two groups of patients were treated 20 times,compared the efficacy, pinsburgh sleep quality index(PSQI) and Traditional Chinese Medicine symptom, safety evaluation between the two groups.RESULTS: Compared with 10, 20 times after the treatment, the effective rate of the treatment group(93.3%) higher than that of the control group(80.0%)(P < 0.05); Compared with beforetreatment, 20 times after treatment, the PSQI and TCM symptom pattern scores of the two groups were significantly decreased(P < 0.01); Compared with 10, 20 times after the treatment, the treatment group are better than the control group in improving the total score and the integral of PSQI(P <0.05 or P < 0.01); The treatment group are better than the control group in improving the TCM symptom pattern score, difficulty in going to sleep, palpitation, amnesia, fidget, sweating, impaired concentration(P < 0.01 or P < 0.05).CONCLUSION: The pricking and penetrating moxibustion therapy is safe and effective in the treatment of refractory insomnia and the treatment can improve the curative effect of the therapy that uses penetrating moxibustion only.展开更多

METHODS: We recruited 105 su...AIM: To correlate the clinical features of treated and untreated patients with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) to the results of skin prick test (SPT) for food and inhalant allergens. METHODS: We recruited 105 subjects to form three different target groups: treated group (n=44) undergoing treatment for IBS, untreated group (n =31) meeting the Rome Ⅱ criteria without treatment for IBS, control group (n = 30) with no IBS symptoms. RESULTS: SPT results were different among the three groups in which SPT was positive in 17 (38.6%) treated patients, in 5 (16.1%) untreated patients and in 1 (3.3%) control (P〈0.01). The number of positive SPTs was greater in the IBS group than in the control group (P〈 0.001). The number of positive food SPTs was higher in the treated IBS group than in the untreated IBS group (P= 0.03). CONCLUSION: Positive food SPT is higher in IBS patients than in controls.展开更多
OBJECTIVE: To systematically evaluate the efficacy and safety of blood pricking and cupping in the treatment of nonspecific low back pain(NLBP).METHODS:The China National Knowledge Infrastructure Database(CNKI), Wanfa...OBJECTIVE: To systematically evaluate the efficacy and safety of blood pricking and cupping in the treatment of nonspecific low back pain(NLBP).METHODS:The China National Knowledge Infrastructure Database(CNKI), Wanfang Med Online Database(Wanfang), China Science and Technology Journal Database(VIP), Pub Med, Web of Science,EMBase, and Cochrane Library databases were searched from inception to October 31, 2021, for randomized controlled trials(RCTs) of the treatment of NLBP by blood pricking and cupping. The quality of each included study was evaluated according to the Cochrane Systematic Assessor’s Manual evaluation criteria, while the Meta-analysis was performed using RevMan 5.4software.RESULTS: A total of 13 thirteen RCTs included a total of 1088 subjects. The visual analogue scale scores indicated that blood pricking and cupping was superior to the other treatments at relieving NLBP pain [mean difference(MD) =-1.43;95% confidence interval(CI):-2.31 to 0.54;Z = 3.15;P = 0.002). The Oswestry Disability Index score of blood pricking and cupping was superior to that of the control group in terms of improving NLBP dysfunction(MD =-6.25;95%CI:-8.37 to-4.31);Z = 5.77;P < 0.000 01). 7 RCTs mentioned no adverse reactions, while one study reported mild syncope [7%(n = 3), all in the 17-30 years group] that was gradually relieved after rest. CONCLUSIONS: Blood pricking and cupping therapy can safely and effectively reduce pain and improve functional impairment in patients with NLBP. However, this study included limited high-grade studies with a small overall sample size;therefore, further high-quality large-sample RCTs are needed to improve clinical evidence.展开更多
文摘Significant variations in global temperatures and weather patterns over time are known as climate change.Although it occurs naturally,human activities—particularly the burning of fossil fuels,deforestation,and industrial processes—are accelerating these changes,which have various detrimental effects on the environment.This review aims to highlight the edapho-climatic requirements of this cactus and the advantages and challenges of its cultivation to mitigate climate change.The prickly pear cactus is a plant with numerous financial and environmental advantages.It needs well-draining,sandy or gravelly soil to avoid root rot and do best in full sun.With a strong tolerance for dryness,they thrive in arid or semi-arid regions with scorching summers and prefer sparing watering.Despite being suited to tropical climates,some species can tolerate freezing temperatures and sporadic frost.Once established,these hardy plants require little care and thrive in nutrient-poor soils,which makes them perfect for xeriscaping or challenging growing environments.Because of its high water use efficiency ratio and low water requirements,prickly pear can be grown in marginally dry and semi-arid areas.The cactus does contribute to the ecological and socioeconomic fight against climate change.For instance,it supports sustainable agriculture,biodiversity preservation,soil restoration,carbon sequestration,and effective water usage.Demarcating dry and semi-arid zones and fostering employment in these areas is beneficial from a socioeconomic standpoint.The prickly pear’s traditional cultural heritage supports its current economic function as a crop that can withstand drought.While ecological threats necessitate balanced management,this adaptability promotes sustainable growth.Innovations in bioenergy and value-added goods build on its historical applications,increasing its socioeconomic advantages and,eventually,its worldwide significance.

文摘The prickly pear fruit helps in combating viral based infections.It is used to treat diabetes and declared to possess hypoglycemic effects.There is also record of the usage of the fruit in the olden days as a remedy for diabetes,lipid disorders,inflammation,ulcers,and pharmacologic side effects.The chemical composition and nutritional values of skin,flesh and seed of prickly pear fruit were investigated and discussed on a dry weight situation.The infrared spectra as well as scanning electron microscopy(SEM)techniques were used to identify the functional groups of carbohydrates,amino acids,and protein.The infrared spectral data of all three(skin,flesh,and seeds)species were recorded and assigned to the presence of distinguish peaks that referred to the three different sugars(glucose,fructose and saccharose)and cyclic aliphatic hydrocarbons moieties.On the other hand,the SEM is a powerful tool to investigate the morphological features of the components.SEM assays were examined on the surfaces of skin,flesh and seed branches showing a small particle that tends to form clusters with different shapes compared to each other.The Energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy(EDX)is an analytical technique used for the elemental analysis or chemical characterization of a sample.The EDX spectral technique of the skin,flesh and seeds were confirmed the presence of different essential and useful elements such as carbon,oxygen,magnesium,calcium,potassium,sulfur,aluminum,silicon,chloride,and phosphorus.

文摘Understanding how nutrient absorption processes in plants are related to arbuscular mycorrhizal(AM)association is critical for predicting the effects of AM symbiosis on elemental cycling for plants. Both mulberry(Morus alba) and Chinese prickly ash(Zanthoxylum bungeanum) are AM-associated plants, widely distributed in southwest China. It was hypothesized that if the nutrient absorption processes were efficiently associated with AM symbiosis in both mulberry and Chinese prickly ash, foliar nutrient concentrations—especially calcium(Ca)—would be primarily determined by the soil conditions in different regions. To investigate this, AM colonization levels of soils, nutrient levels in soils and leaves, and δ^(13)C values of leaves were analyzed for mulberry and Chinese prickly ash.In this study, spore density in soils with low p H was higher than that in soils with high p H. The average concentrations of sugar delivered to roots in both mulberry and Chinese prickly ash in soil with relatively low p H and soil extractable cations were higher than those in other areas.The values of foliar δ^(13)C in both mulberry and Chinese prickly ash in low soil-pH and soil extractable cations were lower than those in contrast areas, indicating that water availability was impacted by soil characteristics. The efficiency in AM-mediated processes might play an important role in translocation between soil nutrients and plant tissue.The results suggest uptake and translocation of nutrients,especially Ca, in AM-associated plants may be affected by an efficiency of AM-mediated processes. Since Sr does not appear to be similarly affected, expressing Ca and other nutrient concentrations relative to Sr could be used to evaluate whether the uptake and translocation of Ca and other nutrients are affected by AM-mediated processes.

文摘The synthesis of ZnO prickly spheres using precipitation followed by heating treatment was investigated. Zn(OH)2 precursor was prepared by precipitation process using Zn(CH3COO)2-2H2O in mixed 1-propanol-water solvent. Sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) as the anionic surfactant was added to control the morphology. The size and structure of ZnO prickly spheres were studied using XRD, TEM and SEM. The results showed that the morphologies and size of the spheres strongly depended on the volume ratio of 1-propanol /water and molar ratio of SDS/Zn2+. ZnO prickly spheres composed of nanorods could be obtained, when the volume ratio of 1-propanol/water = 2:3 and the molar ratio of Zn2/SDS= 450:1.

文摘BACKGROUND Depression is a common,chronic,and recurrent mood disorder that has become a worldwide health hazard.Fluoxetine hydrochloride,a common treatment method,can inhibit 5-hydroxytryptamine(5-HT)recycling in the presynaptic membrane;however,the efficacy of a single drug is inadequate.At present,mildto-moderate depression can be treated with acupuncture of ghost caves,but the clinical curative effect of combined therapy with fluoxetine hydrochloride has not been sufficiently reported.AIM To evaluate the clinical effect of acupuncture at ghost points combined with fluoxetine hydrochloride in the treatment of mild-to-moderate depression.METHODS This retrospective study included 160 patients with mild-to-moderate depression who were admitted to Shanghai Hospital of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine,Affiliated to Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine,between January 2022 and June 2023.Patients were separated into a single-agent group(fluoxetine hydrochloride treatment,n=80)and a coalition group(fluoxetine hydrochloride treatment combined with acupuncture at ghost points,n=80).Pre-treatment symptoms were recorded,and the clinical curative effect and adverse reactions[Asberg Antidepressant Side Effects Scale(SERS)]were assessed.Depression before and after treatment[Hamilton Depression Scale(HAMD)-24],neurotransmitter levels[5-HT,norepinephrine(NE),dopamine(DA)],oxidative stress indicators[superoxide dismutase(SOD),malondialdehyde(MDA)],and sleep quality[Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index(PSQI)]were compared.RESULTS The total efficacy rate was 97.50%in the coalition group and 86.25%in the single-agent group(P<0.05).After 2,4,6,and 8 wk of treatment,the HAMD,self-rating depression scale,and SERS scores of the coalition and single-agent groups decreased compared with pre-treatment,and the decrease was more significant in the coalition group(P<0.05).After 8 wk of treatment,the levels of NE,DA,5-HT,and SOD in the coalition and single-agent groups increased,while the levels of MDA decreased;the increases and decrease in the coalition group were more significant(P<0.05).The PSQI scores of the coalition and single-agent groups decreased,and the decrease was more significant in the coalition group(P<0.05).CONCLUSION Acupuncture at ghost points combined with paroxetine tablets can safely improve depressive symptoms and sleep disorders,regulate neurotransmitter levels,and reduce stress responses in patients with mild-to-moderate depression.
文摘Neonates,especially admitted to neonatal intensive care unit,frequently need various medical interventions in their early days.A common procedure is the heel prick for blood sampling.Although necessary for diagnosis,this procedure can be stressful for neonates,causing pain,extended crying,and discomfort.Reducing distress in neonates during such procedures is important for the well‐being of neonates and the satisfaction of caregivers and healthcare providers.Therefore,this review aims to identify and compare the efficacy of 25%dextrose and breast milk on pain and duration of cry among neonates during heel-lance.As part of its review process,the article examined widely used databases,including PubMed,EMBASE,Cochrane,Academia,and Google Scholar.For the meta-analysis,the authors utilized RevMan 5.4.All eligible trials were analyzed using the Cochrane Risk of Bias Tool to assess the quality of the included studies and evaluate the risk of bias.Out of 131 studies reviewed,seven studies were included in meta-analysis of pain,and four studies were included in duration of cry.The results show that 25%dextrose is more effective to reduce pain among neonates during minor invasive procedure like heel prick(P<0.00001),whereas both interventions are effective in the reduction of crying duration.This review highlights that dextrose is more effective in reducing pain in comparison to breast milk.However,additional well-designed studies with larger sample sizes and extended follow-up periods are needed to validate and build upon the current findings.Hence,this review underscores the importance of utilizing effective pain management strategies,such as 25%dextrose,to enhance neonatal care and improve the overall well-being of newborns during invasive procedures.
文摘Objective To observe the clinical efficacy of pricking needling by filiform needles in trea ng pediatric func onal dyspepsia. Methods Pricking needling was carried out on the 65 children with func onal dyspepsia on Shàngwǎn(上脘 CV 13),Zhōngwǎn(中脘 CV 12),Xiàwǎn(下脘 CV 10),Guānyuán(关元 CV 4),Tiānshū(天枢 ST 25) at both sides,Zúsānlǐ(足三里 ST 36) at both sides and Sìfèng(四缝 EX-UE 10). The treatments were carried out once every three days for totally three times,and the clinical efficacy was observed. Results Fiftyeight cases were cured,eff ec ve in 7 cases and no invalid case; the cure rate was 89.2% and the total eff ec ve rate was 100%. Conclusion Treatments on pediatric functional dyspepsia by pricking needling with filiform needles are simple and convenient,the therapeutic efficacy is accurate,and it deserves further generaliza on.

文摘Objective To compare the different efficacy in treating patients with chronic insomnia by pricking,acupuncture and estazolam.Methods Sixty patients were divided into pricking group(group A),acupuncture group(group B) and western medicine group(group C) according to the random number table,with 20 cases in each group.In group A,hook-type needles were applied on Shenmai(申脉 BL 62) and Zhaohai(照海 Kl 6) bilaterally by piercing the skin,a small amount of mucus was squeezed and subcutaneous fibers were broken;in group B,disposable acupuncture needles were applied by needling BL 62 and Kl 6 bilaterally at the depth of 0.5 cun;in group C,patients were asked to take 1 mg estazolam once a day at bedtime.The three groups were observed for 28 days,and Epworth scores and improvement of symptoms in daytime dysfunction were recorded.Results The total effective rate of improvement of symptoms in daytime dysfunction of group A(100%,20/20) was superior to that of group B(70%,14/20),and the differences were statistically significant(P〈0.05);the total effective rates of group A and group B were superior to that of group C(25%,5/20),and the differences were statistically significant(P〈0.01,P〈0.05).In terms of Epworth scores,the efficacy of group A was significantly superior to that of group B(13.35±2.85 vs 11.10±3.88,P〈0.05),the efficacy of group A was superior to that of group C(13.35±2.85 vs 5.30±3.28,P〈0.01),and the efficacy of group B was superior to that of group C(11.10±3.88 vs 5.30±3.28,P〈0.01).Epworth scores significantly decreased in each group after treatment(P〈0.01).Conclusion The therapy of pricking BL 62 and Kl 6 for patients of chronic insomnia was effective,daytime sleepiness was relieved and daytime dysfunctions were improved,and the therapy was superior to estazolam,and more advantageous than acupuncture.
文摘Objective To observe the analgesic effect on herpes zoster treated by the comprehensive therapy of blocking, surrounding needling, pricking and cupping combined with bloodletting at Longyan (龙眼, Extra) acupoint. Methods According to the random mumber table, 104 cases of herpes zoster were randomized into an observation group and a control group, 52 cases in each one. In the observation group, the blocking method was used at the starting site and the ending site of herpetic zone, the surrounding needling method was applied toward the center of the painful zone, with horizontal needling technique; and the local pricking and cupping methods as well as the bloodletting at Longyan (Extra) acupoint were adopted. In the control group, Jiáj (夹脊 EX-B 2) at the corresponding affected nerve segments and the local Ashi points were selected and stimulated with electroacupuncture. The visual analogue scale (VAS) was adopted to determine the analgesic effect 20 min, 1, 6, 12, 24 and 48 h after treatment separately in each group. Results The onset time of analgesic effect in the observation group was shorter than that in the control group and the efficacy time of duration was longer than that in the control group (all P0.05). The analgesic effect and the result of comprehensive efficacy assessment were superior to those of the control group (both P0.05). Conclusion The comprehensive therapy of blocking, surrounding needling, pricking and cupping method combined with bloodletting at Longyan (Extra) achieves the significant analgesic effect on herpes zoster.
文摘Objective To explore effective therapeutic method for the treatment of ocular myasthenia gravis. Methods Sixty cases of ocular myasthenia gravis were selected. The acupuncture was applied at Dàzhuī (大椎 GV 14), Bǎihuì (百会 GV 20), Shàngxīng (上星 GV 23) of Governor Vessel, and its crossing points with Yinqiao and Yangqiao Meridian, such as Jīngmíng (睛明 BL 1), shēnmài (申脉 BL 62), Dìcāng (地仓 ST 4), Jūliáo (巨髎 ST 3), Chéngqì (承泣 ST 1 ), etc. Besides, ginger-partition moxibustion was applied at Yángbái (阳白 GB 14) and Sìbái (四白 ST 2). The plum-blossom needle was applied at upper limb distribution of lung channel of hand taiyin, heart channel of hand shaoyin and pericardium channel of hand jueyin. The patients’ clinical symptoms, potential degradation percentages of repetitive nerve stimulation (RNS) in low frequency were observed. Results 8 cases were clinically cured, 20 cases were basically cured, 12 cases were remarkably effective, 15 cases were effective and 5 cases were failed. The total effective rate was 91.7%. Compared with before the treatment, the potential degradation percentages of repetitive nerve stimulation in low frequency were lowered [(19.44±6.28)% vs (8.78±3.12)%, (P0.05)]. Conclusion Acupuncture and moxibustion at extra-meridian and collateral for ocular myasthenia gravis could achieve positive efficacy.

文摘Objective To compare the difference of therapeutic effects between vessel pricking therapy and Prednisone for treatment of henoch-schonlein purpura nephritis(HSPN).Methods Seventy cases of acute purpura nephritis syndrome were randomly divided into an observation group (40 cases) and a control group (30 cases).Patients in observation group were differentiated into sthenic and asthenic syndromes.Vessel pricking therapy was applied at Hégǔ(合谷 LI 4),Qūchí(曲池 LI 11),Xuèhǎi(血海 SP 10) etc.by three-edged needle for sthenic symptom;shallow needling was used at Píshū(脾俞 BL 20),Shènshū(肾俞 BL 23),Zúsānlǐ(足三里 ST 36) etc.by filiform needle for asthenic syndromes.The control group was treated with oral administration of Prednisone.The symptom score of TCM,24 h urinary protein,red blood cell count of urinary sediment of both groups were observed before and after treatment and therapeutic effects were compared.Results The total effective rate of 92.5%(37/40) in observation group was superior to that of 80.0%(24/30) in control group,and there was a significant difference between two groups (P0.05);the symptom score of TCM,24 h urinary protein,red blood cell count of urinary sediment were all improved in both groups after treatment (all P0.05),and moreover,the improvement in observation group was superior to that of control group (all P0.05);after treatment,the symptom score of TCM of sthenic syndrome was lower than that of asthenic syndrome in observation group (P0.05).Conclusion Vessel pricking therapy has a significant therapeutic effect for treatment of HSPN,superior to that of oral administration of Prednisone,and the therapeutic effect is better for treating sthenic syndrome than for asthenic syndrome.

文摘Objective:To extract,quantify,and evaluate the phenolic content in Opuntia ficus-indica skin for their antioxidant capacity with three different methods(ABTS,DPPH,and lipid oxidation)and to optimize the extraction conditions[time,temperature and ethanol concentration)in a reflux system.Methods:The extraction process was done using a reflux system.A San CristobalⅡexperimental design with three variables and three levels was used.The variables evaluated were time of extraction(h),concentration of ethanol(%,v/v)and temperature(°C).The extraction process was optimized using a response surface methodology.Results:It was observed that at higher temperature more phenolic compounds were extracted,but the antioxidant capacity was decreased.The optimum conditions for phenolic compounds extraction and antioxidant capacity mixing the three methods were as Follows:45%of ethanol,80℃and 2 hours of extraction.Values obtained in our results are little higher that other previously reported.Conclusions:It can he concluded the by-products of Opuntia ficus-indica represent a good source of natural antioxidants with possible applications in food,cosmetics or drugs industries.
文摘Objective To probe into the impacts on the therapeutic effects and endothelin (ET) in multi-infarct dementia (MID) treated with cluster pricking on head points.Methods 60 cases of MID were randomized into acupuncture group and western medicine group,treated with cluster pricking on head points and huperzien A tablet respectively.Plasma ET lever,HDS,ADL and CNFDS (clinical neurological functional defect scoring) were determined before treatment,and the statistical analysis showed that there were no significant difference (P〉0.05).Results In 8-week treatment,ET level in both groups were decreased,but it was decreased much more obviously in acupuncture group,indicating significant difference in the statistical comparison (P〈0.05).The scores of HDS and ADL were all up in acupuncture and western medicine groups,but the significant statistical difference was obtained in the comparison between acupuncture group and western medicine group (P〈0.05).In acupuncture group,the result of CNFDS was much down comparing with that before the treatment,indicating significant difference (P〈0.05);but in western medicine group,there was no significant difference in CNFDS before and after treatment (P〉0.05),suggesting that acupuncture reduces CNFDS of MID patient,neither for western medicine.Conclusion Cluster pricking on head points improves the intelligence of MID patient,reduces ET level and grades up HDS and ADL,moreover,it reduces CNFDS of MID patients and releases the symptoms.
文摘Objective:To observe effects of pricking blood therapy at meridian sinews on upper limb spasm of poststroke patients.Methods:A total of 72 patients with post-stroke upper limb spasm were randomly divided into a comprehensive group of pricking blood therapy at meridian sinews with rehabilitation training(comprehensive group)and the simple rehabilitation training group(rehabilitation group),and there were 36 patients in each group.On the basis of routine therapy,the patients of the two groups received rehabilitation therapy for 6 consecutive days and 1-day rest,for 4 weeks in total.On the above basis,the patients in the comprehensive group received pricking blood therapy at meridian sinews,once every other day,3 times per week,for 4 weeks in total.Before treatment,after the first treatment,and after 4-week treatment,the patients were observed for changes of upper limb spasticity(Modified Ashworth Scale,MAS),upper limb movement function(Fugl-Meyer Assessment,FMA),activity of daily living(Modified Barthel Index,MBI),and biceps and triceps integrated electromyogram(IEMG)values were observed as well as the therapeutic effects.Results:(1)After the first treatment,there were statistically significant differences of the MAS scale grades in patients of the two groups(P<0.05).The FMA scores in the comprehensive group were increased than that before treatment(P<0.05),and the MBI scores of the two groups were increased than those before treatment(both P<0.05).The FMA and MBI scores in the comprehensive group were higher than those of the rehabilitation group(both P<0.05).The biceps and triceps IEMG values were not improved than those before treatment(all P>0.05).(2)After 4-week treatment,there were statistically significant differences of MAS grades in patients of the two groups(P<0.05).The FMA and MBI scores in the two groups were increased than those before treatment(all P<0.05),and the FMA and MBI scores in the comprehensive group were higher than those in the rehabilitation group(both P<0.05).Through comparison of the differences of FMA and MBI scores of the two groups,the difference values in the comprehensive group were higher than those of the rehabilitation group(both P<0.05).The biceps and triceps IEMG values in the two groups were decreased than those before treatment(all P<0.05),and those in the comprehensive group were lower than those in the rehabilitation group(both P<0.05).The biceps and triceps IEMG values in patients of the comprehensive group were higher than those before treatment(both P<0.05).(3)After 4-week treatment,the total effective rate in the comprehensive group was 83.3%(30/36),and that was 58.3%(21/36)in the rehabilitation group.The total effective rate in the comprehensive group was higher than that in the rehabilitation group(P<0.05).Conclusions:The pricking blood therapy at meridian sinews can release affected upper limb flexor muscle spasticity and movement function of the patients with post-stroke upper limb spasm,decrease biceps IEMG values of the affected side,and improve activities of daily living.

文摘OBJECTIVE: To observe the clinical effect of pricking and penetrating moxibustion therapy on refractory insomnia.METHODS: Totally 60 subjects were randomly divided into treatment group and control group, 30 in each group. The treatment group was treated with pricking and penetrating moxibustion therapy, the control group with penetrating moxibustion therapy, the treatment was given once every day, two groups of patients were treated 20 times,compared the efficacy, pinsburgh sleep quality index(PSQI) and Traditional Chinese Medicine symptom, safety evaluation between the two groups.RESULTS: Compared with 10, 20 times after the treatment, the effective rate of the treatment group(93.3%) higher than that of the control group(80.0%)(P < 0.05); Compared with beforetreatment, 20 times after treatment, the PSQI and TCM symptom pattern scores of the two groups were significantly decreased(P < 0.01); Compared with 10, 20 times after the treatment, the treatment group are better than the control group in improving the total score and the integral of PSQI(P <0.05 or P < 0.01); The treatment group are better than the control group in improving the TCM symptom pattern score, difficulty in going to sleep, palpitation, amnesia, fidget, sweating, impaired concentration(P < 0.01 or P < 0.05).CONCLUSION: The pricking and penetrating moxibustion therapy is safe and effective in the treatment of refractory insomnia and the treatment can improve the curative effect of the therapy that uses penetrating moxibustion only.

文摘AIM: To correlate the clinical features of treated and untreated patients with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) to the results of skin prick test (SPT) for food and inhalant allergens. METHODS: We recruited 105 subjects to form three different target groups: treated group (n=44) undergoing treatment for IBS, untreated group (n =31) meeting the Rome Ⅱ criteria without treatment for IBS, control group (n = 30) with no IBS symptoms. RESULTS: SPT results were different among the three groups in which SPT was positive in 17 (38.6%) treated patients, in 5 (16.1%) untreated patients and in 1 (3.3%) control (P〈0.01). The number of positive SPTs was greater in the IBS group than in the control group (P〈 0.001). The number of positive food SPTs was higher in the treated IBS group than in the untreated IBS group (P= 0.03). CONCLUSION: Positive food SPT is higher in IBS patients than in controls.

文摘OBJECTIVE: To systematically evaluate the efficacy and safety of blood pricking and cupping in the treatment of nonspecific low back pain(NLBP).METHODS:The China National Knowledge Infrastructure Database(CNKI), Wanfang Med Online Database(Wanfang), China Science and Technology Journal Database(VIP), Pub Med, Web of Science,EMBase, and Cochrane Library databases were searched from inception to October 31, 2021, for randomized controlled trials(RCTs) of the treatment of NLBP by blood pricking and cupping. The quality of each included study was evaluated according to the Cochrane Systematic Assessor’s Manual evaluation criteria, while the Meta-analysis was performed using RevMan 5.4software.RESULTS: A total of 13 thirteen RCTs included a total of 1088 subjects. The visual analogue scale scores indicated that blood pricking and cupping was superior to the other treatments at relieving NLBP pain [mean difference(MD) =-1.43;95% confidence interval(CI):-2.31 to 0.54;Z = 3.15;P = 0.002). The Oswestry Disability Index score of blood pricking and cupping was superior to that of the control group in terms of improving NLBP dysfunction(MD =-6.25;95%CI:-8.37 to-4.31);Z = 5.77;P < 0.000 01). 7 RCTs mentioned no adverse reactions, while one study reported mild syncope [7%(n = 3), all in the 17-30 years group] that was gradually relieved after rest. CONCLUSIONS: Blood pricking and cupping therapy can safely and effectively reduce pain and improve functional impairment in patients with NLBP. However, this study included limited high-grade studies with a small overall sample size;therefore, further high-quality large-sample RCTs are needed to improve clinical evidence.
