The melt-spun ribbons were used to observe the dricrostructures after heat treatment. In the supersaturated Al-Tl-Si alloy, age hardening occurred after 1 h anneal in the temperature range of 4000~500℃, which seems to be attributed to the precipitation of metastable Ll2- (Al,Si)3Ti phase. However. the microhardness was relatively low because of the low v/o and the insufflcient stability of precipitates. Thus. Cr was added to Al-Ti-Si alloys in order to stabilize the microstructures and to increase the v/o of precipitate5. As a result. the alIoys containing Cr were evaluated to possess the improved properties at the service temperature.展开更多

By using this process, ultrafine reversed austenite can be obtained at room temperature. The microstructures of the reversed austenite and the martensite matrix were characterized by transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) in detail. The results show that the ultrafine reversed austenite is enriched in Ni resulting in the austenite stability at room temperature. Two new types of nano-scale carbide precipitates are found in the martensite matrix. Detailed analysis suggests that the two nano-scale precipitates can be identified as ω phase and λ phase carbides, respectively. The orientation relationship between the ω phase and matrix is [011]α [/[2110]ω and (211)α//(0110)ω, while that between the X phase precipitate and matrix is [011]α][[0001]λ and (200)α/(1210)λ. For the present steel, the ultrafine reversed austenite and carbide precipitates obtained by Q-T-P treatment provide a good combination of high strength and toughness.展开更多

The results indicate that the grains are refined and the strength is improved effectively with increasing extrusion ratio. However, further investigation shows that the extrusion ratio of 30 is more effective than the lower extrusion ratio(17) and the higher extrusion ratio(67) to refine the grains in the T6-temper alloy. Moreover, the sample with an extrusion ratio of 30 obtains more precipitates and superior mechanical properties after T6 treatment. This study supports the idea that there exists a critical extrusion ratio for grain refinement and improvement of mechanical properties for the T6-temper alloy. Recrystallization and precipitation during T6 treatment were introduced to explain the effects of extrusion ratio on the microstructure and mechanical properties of the Al-Cu-Mg-Ag alloys.展开更多

Interstitial defects and defect dusters induced by Fe-ion irradiation are observed in ali the specimens under different conditions. It is found that with increasing irradiation temperature, size of defect clusters increases while the density drops quickly. The results of element chemical mapping from the STEM images indicate that the Si element enrichment and Ta element depletion occur inside the precipitates in the matrix of SIMP steel irradiated to a dose of 1 dpa at 300℃. Correlations between the microstructure and irradiation conditions are briefly discussed.展开更多

Conventional high carbon steel C70S6 was used for comparison. The results show that the volume fraction of both ferrite and V-rich M( C,N) particles increases, and the pearlite interlamellar spacing decreases with increasing V content, which in turn results in gradual increase of strength and decrease of ductility and impact energy. The fracture splitting property of the tested steel could be improved significantly due to the increase of V content mainly through the precipitation hardening mechanism of fine M( C,N) precipitates. The fraction of brittle cleavage fracture in the crack initiation area increases noticeably with increasing V content and full brittle cleavage fracture surface could be obtained when V content was increased to 0. 45%. It is concluded that medium carbon steel with V content higher than about 0. 28% possesses not only comparable or even higher mechanical properties with those of conventional steel C70S6,but also excellent fracture splitting property, and therefore,is more suitable to fabricate high performance fracture splitting connecting rod.展开更多

Also, precipitation behavior of Nb at different phase zones was investigated under ultra fast cooling conditions. The experimental results showed that adopting a proper deformation temperature, the ultra fast cooling process can restrain the precipitation of Nb at austenite phase zone. More quantities and smaller size precipitates of Nb can be found at the ferrite or bainite phase zone by controlling the ultra fast cooling ending temperature. With the increase of holding time at austenite, ferrite and bainite phase zones respectively, the volume fraction of precipitation, density, and average size of precipitates will increase obviously. With the decrease of early ultra fast cooling ending temperature, the density of Nb precipitates first increase(at ferrite phase zone) and then decrease(at bainite phase zone), the volume fraction of Nb precipitation decreases and precipitates can be refined. The optimal early ultra fast cooling ending temperature is located at ferrite phase zone. The combination of high rolling temperature with early ultra fast cooling technology opens the way for new cooling schedules and makes the production of high strength steels easier and cheaper by making full use of Nb precipitation strengthening effect.展开更多
