Dating of fracture-filling calcitewith U-Pb geochronology is becoming a rapidly adopted technique for determining the absolute timing of brittle deformation in the upper crust.Slickenfibre calcite is a desirable targe...Dating of fracture-filling calcitewith U-Pb geochronology is becoming a rapidly adopted technique for determining the absolute timing of brittle deformation in the upper crust.Slickenfibre calcite is a desirable target,as it precipitates between individual fault slip displacement events,and provides additional kinematic information.Here we present a case study of slickenfibres formed on the Očkov thrust in the Lower Palaezoic Prague Basin,Bohemian Massif,utilising a combination of petrographic and in situ methods.We demonstrate that slickenfibre external textures can be preserved,whilst internally primary textures are removed by fluid infiltration and recrystallization,leading to variable U and Pb mobilisation.One slickenfibre yielded a date of ca.250 Ma,which we interpret as recording fault slip along the Očkov thrust.Another cross-cutting slickenfibre yielded more scattered U-Pb data,with an imprecise apparent age around ca.95 Ma.This slickenfibre is recrystallised,destroying the primary textures,and exhibits element mobility.The meaning of this younger apparent age is therefore questionable;whereas it likely reflects Cretaceous U and Pb mobility assisted by fluid-flow along the fault plane,it may not reflect a period of fault slip.Our results demonstrate that slickenfibre-based U-Pb dates do not unequivocally relate to fault motion,and that petrographic and elemental analyses are important requirements for interpreting calcite U-Pb data.展开更多
AIM:To ascertain whether the Prague circumferential(C) length and maximal(M) length criteria for grading the extent of Barrett's esophagus can be applied prior to its widespread application in South Korea.METHODS:...AIM:To ascertain whether the Prague circumferential(C) length and maximal(M) length criteria for grading the extent of Barrett's esophagus can be applied prior to its widespread application in South Korea.METHODS:Two hundred and thirteen consecutive cases with endoscopic columnar-lined esophagus(CLE) were included and classified according to the Prague C and M criteria.RESULTS:Of 213 cases with CLE, the distribution of maximum CLE lengths was: 0.5-0.9 cm in 99 cases(46.5%); 1.0-1.4 cm in 63 cases(29.6%); 1.5-1.9 cm in 15 cases(7.0%); 2.0-2.4 cm in 14 cases(6.6%); 2.5-2.9 cm in 1 case(0.5%); and 7.0 cm in 1 case(0.5%). Twenty cases(9.4%) had columnar islands alone. Two hundred and eight cases(97.7%) lacked the circumferential CLE component(C0Mx). Columnar islands were found in 70 cases(32.9%), of which 20 cases(9.4%) had columnar islands alone.CONCLUSION:In regions where most CLE patients display short or ultrashort tongue-like appearance, more detailed descriptions of CLE's in < 1.0 cm lengths and columnar islands, as well as avoidance of repeating the prefix "C0" need to be considered in parallel with the widespread application of the Prague system in South Korea.展开更多

Electrical sensing systems, such as those involving eutectic salt, are mostly used in connection to leakage from existing airborne high-temperature air-conducting pipelines. Such complex structured systems are suscept...Electrical sensing systems, such as those involving eutectic salt, are mostly used in connection to leakage from existing airborne high-temperature air-conducting pipelines. Such complex structured systems are susceptible to external interferences and, thus, cannot meet the increasingly strict monitoring needs of a complex air-conducting pipeline system of an aircraft. In view of this point, this paper studies an alternative sensor system based on a dense array fiber grating. To obtain a compact and light-weight airborne signal processing system, a field programmable gate array is used as the main control core that controls the output of the light source. The functions of pulse modulation, analog-to-digital conversion,data buffering and transmission are integrated into a single system, while the linear sensing monitoring is obtained by detecting the time-division and wavelength-division wavelength drift signals of the fiber Bragg grating array. Our experiments show that the spatial resolution of the linear sensing system approaches 5 cm, the temperature measurement accuracy reaches 2 ℃, the temperature measurement range is between 0–250 ℃, and the response time is within 4 s. Compared with the existing electrical monitoring systems, various monitoring indicators have been greatly improved and have broad application prospects.展开更多
From 2009 to 2017,parts of Central America experienced marked increase in the number of small to moderate-sized earthquakes.For example,three significant earthquakes(~Mw 5)occurred near Prague,Oklahoma,in the U.S.in 2...From 2009 to 2017,parts of Central America experienced marked increase in the number of small to moderate-sized earthquakes.For example,three significant earthquakes(~Mw 5)occurred near Prague,Oklahoma,in the U.S.in 2011.On 6 Nov 2011,an Mw 5.7 earthquake occurred in Prague,central Oklahoma with a sequence of aftershocks.The seismic activity has been attributed to slip on the Wilzetta fault system.This study provides a 3 D fully coupled poroelastic analysis(using FLAC3 D)of the Wilzetta fault system and its response to saltwater injection in the underpressured subsurface layers,especially the Arbuckle group and the basement,to evaluate the conditions that might have led to the increased seismicity.Given the data-limited nature of the problem,we have considered multiple plausible scenarios,and use the available data to evaluate the hydromechanical response of the faults of interest in the study area.Numerical simulations show that the injection of large volumes of fluid into the Arbuckle group tends to bring the part of the Wilzetta faults in Arbuckle group and basement into near-critical conditions.展开更多
BACKGROUND Major societies provide differing guidance on management of Barrett’s esophagus(BE),making standardization challenging.AIM To evaluate the preferred diagnosis and management practices of BE among Asian end...BACKGROUND Major societies provide differing guidance on management of Barrett’s esophagus(BE),making standardization challenging.AIM To evaluate the preferred diagnosis and management practices of BE among Asian endoscopists.METHODS Endoscopists from across Asia were invited to participate in an online questionnaire comprising eleven questions regarding diagnosis,surveillance and management of BE.RESULTS Five hundred sixty-nine of 1016(56.0%)respondents completed the survey,with most respondents from Japan(n=310,54.5%)and China(n=129,22.7%).Overall,the preferred endoscopic landmark of the esophagogastric junction was squamocolumnar junction(42.0%).Distal palisade vessels was preferred in Japan(59.0%vs 10.0%,P<0.001)while outside Japan,squamo-columnar junction was preferred(59.5%vs 27.4%,P<0.001).Only 16.3%of respondents used Prague C and M criteria all the time.It was never used by 46.1%of Japanese,whereas 84.2%outside Japan,endoscopists used it to varying extents(P<0.001).Most Asian endoscopists(70.8%)would survey long-segment BE without dysplasia every two years.Adherence to Seattle protocol was poor with only 6.3%always performing it.73.2%of Japanese never did it,compared to 19.3%outside Japan(P<0.001).The most preferred(74.0%)treatment of non-dysplastic BE was proton pump inhibitor only when the patient was symptomatic or had esophagitis.For BE with low-grade dysplasia,6-monthly surveillance was preferred in 61.9%within Japan vs 47.9%outside Japan(P<0.001).CONCLUSION Diagnosis and management of BE varied within Asia,with stark contrast between Japan and outside Japan.Most Asian endoscopists chose squamo-columnar junction to be the landmark for esophagogastric junction,which is incorrect.Most also did not consistently use Prague criteria,and Seattle protocol.Lack of standardization,education and research are possible reasons.展开更多

This paper focuses on the dramatic transformation of the inherited historical urban and architectural characteristics of the city of Al-Najafin Iraq,seeking new ways of seeing the possibilities of preserving and revit...This paper focuses on the dramatic transformation of the inherited historical urban and architectural characteristics of the city of Al-Najafin Iraq,seeking new ways of seeing the possibilities of preserving and revitalizing the historical center of the city.In addition to being one of the most sacred centers for Shia Muslims,Al-Najaf has a rich cultural and architectural heritage.Its architectural characteristics and urban structure not only reflect the history of the city but also stand as evidence of the most important junctures in Islamic history:the martyrdom of Imam AU ibn Abi Talib,who is a central Islamic spiritual personality and the second most important figure after the Prophet Muhammad.Since its estab-Ushment in 750 AD,the formation of Al-Najaf has never separated from its sociopolitical context and Islamic principles,particularly Shia Muslims'beliefs.Today,the city is a destination for more than million Shia Muslim pilgrims each year,and the number is rapidly increasing.However,as the city continues to develop,its architecture and unique urban structure transform dramatically.The cultural and architectural heritage of the city is seriously threatened.Several factors played a crucial role in the formation and the transformation of the city's specific architectural and urban structures.The most influential factors were mainly related to religion,environment,and politics.This paper introduces the main forces behind the transformation of the deep organizational structures of the architecture and urban fabric in Al-Najaf.The question of whether it is still possible to protect and preserve the remaining parts and revitalize the Old City center is also examined.The goal is to identify the major preservation issues and provide possible insights based on successful preservation experiences that address similar issues indifferent contexts.展开更多
