Lateral flow immunoassays(LFIAs)provide a powerful tool for rapid real-time assay of cancer biomarkers,which is vital for cancer detection and treatment follow-up.Lanthanide-based LFIAs is one of the most widely used methods,especially Eu(Ⅲ)chelates,which possess distinctive and attractive characteristics,such as time-resolved fluorescence and large Stokes shift.Herein,we adopted a new onestep mini-emulsion polymerization method to synthesize carboxyl-modified fluorescent microsphere(OS-EuCM),which shows good stability,resistance to non-specific adhesion and uniform particle size distribution compared with traditional microspheres synthesized through the swelling method.Benefiting from the above advantages,OS-EuCM was successfully used in LFIAs to detect tumor marker Alpha-fetoprotein with high sensitivity and selectivity in concentration as high as 320 ng/mL,as well as a detection limit of 0.683 ng/mL This lanthanide-based microsphere holds great potential for rapid pointof-care screening and clinical application. 展开更多

Luminescent polystyrene microspheres were easily fabricated from poly(styrene-co-methacrylic acid)and aqueous RE(III) chloride solution(RE=Eu, Tb) in the presence of 2,20-bipyridine as second ligand. The negative charges of carboxyl groups on the surface of microspheres coordinated with rare earth ions at first, such as complexes covalently linked to 2,20-bipyridine, resulting in strong photoluminescence. Various methods, including transmission electron microscope(TEM), scanning electron microscope(SEM), energy dispersive spectroscopy(EDS),Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FT-IR), and fluorescence spectrophotometer, were used to characterize the resultant polystyrene composite microspheres. Arrays of noble metal nanoparticles show potential applications in (bio-)sensing, optical storage, surface-enhanced spectroscopy, and waveguides. For all such potential devices, controlling the size, morphology, and interparticle spacing of the nanoparticles is very important. Here, we combine seed-mediated growth with nanosphere lithography to study the controllable growth of gold nanoparticles (Au NPs), in which the self-assembly monolayer of polystyrene (PS) on a silicon surface is used to guide the modification of allaunesilanes and the subsequent adsorption of gold seeds; seed-mediated growth is applied to controlling the morphology and size of Au NPs. The size of adsorption region (determining the number of adsorbed gold seeds) is controlled by etching PS microspheres with oxygen plasma or annealing PS microspheres at the glass transition temperature. The size and morphology of the Au NPs are controlled by changing growth conditions. In such a way, we have achieved the dual control of the obtained Au NPs. Preliminary results show that this strategy holds a great promise. This approach can also be extended to a wide range of materials and substrates. 展开更多

Microspheres coated with a perfectly conductive surface have many advantages in the applications of biosensors and micro-electromechanical systems. Polystyrene microspheres with the diameter of 10 μm were coated with a 50 nmthick gold layer using an electroless gold plating approach. Dielectrophoresis (DEP) for bare microspheres and shelled microspheres was theoretically analysed and the real part of the Clausius Mossotti factor was calculated for the two kinds of microspheres. The experiments on the dielectrophoretic characterisation of the uncoated polystyrene microspheres and gold coated polystyrene microspheres (GCPMs) were carried out. Experimental results showed that the gold coated polystyrene microspheres were only acted by a positive dielectrophoretic force when the frequency was below 40M Hz, while the uncoated polystyrene microspheres were governed by a negative dielectrophoretic force in this frequency range. The gold coated polystyrene microspheres were exploited to form the rnicrowire automatically according to their stable dielectrophoretic and electric characterisations. 展开更多

Crosslinked copolymeric microspheres were prepared directly by the one-step method of dispersion copolymerization. The effects of the content of polyethylene glycol 200-dimethacrylae on the particle morphology and the copolymerization rate were investigated. It shows that the crosslinking agent plays an important role in the particle morphology and the system stability. When the content of crosslinking reached 2.5wt%, the floriated particles were obtained. 展开更多

To investigate phagocytosis, peritoneal-resident and J774.1 macrophages were incubated with fluorescent polystyrene microspheres measuring 1.0 μm in diamter at 200 particles per cell. The amount of phagocytized microspheres increased with incubation time, and both cell types had similar phagocytic activity. Further, we investigated the phagocytosis of different sizes of microspheres by J774.1 macrophages. To adequately evaluate phagocytosis, varying amounts of different sizes of microspheres were added to J774.1 cells, and their phagocytic activities were evaluated. When the microspheres were added at a density of 20 particles per cell, few small microspheres (<1.0 μm in diameter) were phagocytized. This result suggested that their low amount caused difficulty in evaluating phagocytosis. In contrast, when the same variety of microspheres was added at a density of 200 particles per cell, phagocytosis of large microspheres (>3 μm in diameter) could not be evaluated because of cytotoxicity. Thus, the amount of different sizes of microspheres added is important for precisely evaluating phagocytic activity. When the amount of different sizes of microspheres added was standardized to provide a set amount of total surface area, phagocytosis of these microspheres could be adequately evaluated and compared. To determine the effects of phagocytosis on cell viability and proliferation, cells incubated with different sizes of microspheres were assayed using a cell counting kit. We found that phagocytosis had no effect on cell viability or proliferation and was independent of particle size. Furthermore, cells already phagocytized microspheres retained their phagocytic activity. 展开更多

This paper developed a sensitive and efficient analytical method for triclocarban (TCC), triclosan (TCS) and Methyl-triclosan (MTCS) determination in environmental water, which involves enrichment by using silicon dioxide/polystyrene composite microspheres solid-phase extraction and detection with HPLC-ESI-MS. The influence of several operational parameters, including the eluant and its volume, the flow rate and acidity of water sample were investigated and optimized. Under the optimum conditions, the limits of detection were 1.0 ng/L, 2.5 and 4.5 ng/L for TCC, TCS, and MTCS, respectively. The linearity of the method was observed in the range of 5-2000 ng/L, with correlation coefficients (r2) >.99. The spiked recoveries of TCC, TCS and MTCS in water sampleswereachieved in the range of 89.5% -96.8% with RSD below 5.7%. The proposed method has been successfully applied to analyze real water samples and satisfactory results were achieved. 展开更多

Herein a facile and controllable heterocoagulation between polystyrene (PS) microspheres and multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) is introduced based on colloid thermodynamics. The MWCNTs play the role of steric stabilizer for stabilizing the metastable PS microspheres and thus immobilize spontaneously on the surface of PS microspheres. The synthesized MWCNTs-coated PS composite particles have been extensively characterized by scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, thermogravimetry and Raman spectroscopy. The results indicate that the structure and morphology of the resultant MWCNTs-coated PS composite particles are significantly affected by the weight ratio of PS and MWNCTs and the amount of poly(vinylpyrrolidone) that is injected into PS dispersion before they are mixed with MWCNTs. Therefore, these composite particles have the potential to produce MWCNTs-based composite materials with controllable mass loading and dispersity of MWCNTs. 展开更多

双酚A(BPA)和聚苯乙烯微塑料(PS-MPs)是环境中的新污染物。PS-MPs可作为BPA的载体,通过影响BPA的生物利用度和降解过程,对植物生长产生复合效应。本研究设置未添加BPA和PS-MPs的对照(CK)、BPA处理以及BPA与不同质量分数PS-MPs的复合处理... 双酚A(BPA)和聚苯乙烯微塑料(PS-MPs)是环境中的新污染物。PS-MPs可作为BPA的载体,通过影响BPA的生物利用度和降解过程,对植物生长产生复合效应。本研究设置未添加BPA和PS-MPs的对照(CK)、BPA处理以及BPA与不同质量分数PS-MPs的复合处理,分析诸葛菜的生长指标、光合参数、可渗透调节物质含量、次生代谢物含量的变化。结果表明,PS-MPs对BPA的吸附符合Freundlich模型。此外,PS-MPs质量分数是驱动pH值变化的主要影响因子。相较于CK,BPA处理的株高和根长显著减少了41.03%、49.21%,同时导致可溶性糖含量和类黄酮含量分别显著降低28.06%和59.46%。与BPA处理相比,添加0.1%PS-MPs通过增强光合色素含量、促进次生代谢物积累,一定程度上缓解了BPA的毒性。而添加5.0%PS-MPs显著加剧根系结构损伤,诱导根部BPA含量升高75.00%,同时促使类黄酮含量增加,最终协同强化了BPA的生物毒性。本研究结果表明,PS-MPs的质量分数是调控BPA植物毒性的关键因素,低质量分数的PS-MPs具有缓解效应,而高质量分数的PS-MPs则呈现协同毒性。本研究结果可以为复合污染生态风险的评估提供理论依据。 展开更多

单官能团3-氯丙基笼形倍半硅氧烷(POSS)与官能化的聚苯乙烯(PS)进行缩合反应,得到POSS/PS复合材料,其热性能得到明显改善。单官能团3-氯丙基POSS由顶端封角法制备;PS经过3步处理以引入醇钠基团:Friedel-Crafts酰基化反应将羰基引入到PS... 单官能团3-氯丙基笼形倍半硅氧烷(POSS)与官能化的聚苯乙烯(PS)进行缩合反应,得到POSS/PS复合材料,其热性能得到明显改善。单官能团3-氯丙基POSS由顶端封角法制备;PS经过3步处理以引入醇钠基团:Friedel-Crafts酰基化反应将羰基引入到PS的苯基上,羰基被硼氢化钠还原为羟基,金属钠与羟基反应生成醇钠基团;单官能团3-氯丙基POSS分子上的C—Cl与PS上的醇钠基团缩合从而制备POSS接枝的POSS/PS复合材料。利用1H NMR和FTIR技术表征中间产物和POSS/PS复合材料,结果表明POSS笼上的C—Cl与官能化后PS链上的醇钠官能团之间的缩合反应效率很高。XRD测试表明POSS具有良好的分散性。TGA、DSC分析结果表明,由于POSS的引入,POSS/PS复合材料比纯PS的初始分解温度提高69℃,玻璃化转变温度提高16℃。 展开更多

利用原子力显微镜测定了聚苯乙烯(Polystyrene,PS)微球和核壳结构PS/CeO2复合微球的力-位移曲线,并根据Hertz接触理论计算了微球样品的弹性模量.结果表明:粒径在120 nm左右的PS微球的平均弹性模量约为2.80 GPa,其数值略低于聚苯乙烯块... 利用原子力显微镜测定了聚苯乙烯(Polystyrene,PS)微球和核壳结构PS/CeO2复合微球的力-位移曲线,并根据Hertz接触理论计算了微球样品的弹性模量.结果表明:粒径在120 nm左右的PS微球的平均弹性模量约为2.80 GPa,其数值略低于聚苯乙烯块体材料的弹性模量.复合微球的弹性模量随CeO2壳层厚度的增加而增大,当CeO2壳厚分别约为8、12和16 nm时,其平均弹性模量依次约为7.93、8.25和10.67 GPa.与纯氧化铈相比,PS/CeO2复合微球的弹性模量更接近于聚苯乙烯微球. 展开更多
