Lithium-sulfur(Li-S)batteries are one of the most promising modern-day energy supply systems because of their high theoretical energy density and low cost.However,the development of high-energy density Li-S batteries with high loading of flammable sulfur faces the challenges of electrochemical performance degradation owing to the shuttle effect and safety issues related to fire or explosion accidents.In this work,we report a three-dimensional(3D)conductive nitrogen-doped carbon foam supported electrostatic self-assembled MXene-ammonium polyphosphate(NCF-MXene-APP)layer as a heat-resistant,thermally-insulated,flame-retardant,and freestanding host for Li-S batteries with a facile and costeffective synthesis method.Consequently,through the use of NCF-MXene-APP hosts that strongly anchor polysulfides,the Li-S batteries demonstrate outstanding electrochemical properties,including a high initial discharge capacity of 1191.6 mA h g^(-1),excellent rate capacity of 755.0 mA h g^(-1)at 1 C,and long-term cycling stability with an extremely low-capacity decay rate of 0.12%per cycle at 2 C.More importantly,these batteries can continue to operate reliably under high temperature or flame attack conditions.Thus,this study provides valuable insights into the design of safe high-performance Li-S batteries. 展开更多

Acinetobacter baumannii(A.baumannii)is well known for its virulence and persistence,particularly in intensive care units.Therefore,new strategies and candidates to treat A.baumannii infection are urgently needed considering the emergence of drug-resistant bacteria.Polyphosphate kinase 1(PPK1)is required for bacterial survival as it is involved in maintaining antibiotic resistance or tolerance,pathogenesis,and adversity resistance.Multiple phenotypic assays related to virulence and persistence were performed in this study,and phloretin was shown to attenuate A.baumannii virulence and persistence by inhibiting PPK1 activity.Phloretin hampered mobility,interfered with biofilm formation and decreased resistance to ampicillin,heat,and hydrogen peroxide stress in A.baumannii.The therapeutic effect was also examined in a mouse pneumonia infection model.Molecular simulation and site-directed mutagenesis revealed that ARG-22,MET-622,ASN-57,and ARG-65 were the sites of phloretin action against PPK1.Phloretin treatment led to changes in metabolic pathways associated with A.baumannii virulence and persistence,including glycerophospholipid metabolism and fatty acid biosynthesis.Furthermore,phloretin alleviated pneumonic injury in a mouse pneumonia infection model in vivo,indicating that phloretin is a promising compound for preventing A.baumannii infection resistance by targeting PPK1. 展开更多

The thermal behaviors and burning characteristics of reconstituted tobacco (RT) are strongly related with evolved gaseous products. The effect of ammonium polyphosphate (APP) as an additive of RT on the pyrolysis behavior and CO evolution was studied, emphasizing the role of heating velocity in reducing CO delivery of the mainstream smoke by APP. Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) was employed to investigate the influence of APP on RT thermal behavior. Slow and flash pyrolysis of RT were compared to discuss the role of heating rate in decreasing CO by APP. TGA results demonstrated that, in dependence on APP concentration, APP influenced exothermal amount and weight loss rate during RT thermal decomposition, promoted the formation of char and retarded the thermal decomposition of RT. In addition, APP had a considerable influence on the evolution of gaseous products during thermal decomposition of RT. Both CO delivery per cigarette and that per puff in the smoking process were significantly reduced in dependence on APP content in RT. Comparative analysis of CO evolution patterns in the flash and slow pyrolysis elucidated that heating rate played a key role in decreasing CO evolution by APP. The results suggest that APP is a potential burning additive for controlling CO delivery in mainstream smoke of RT. 展开更多

Halomonas sp.YSR-3 was isolated from the Yellow Sea and identified as a polyphosphate-accumulating bacterium and the characteristics of its intracellular polyphosphate(polyP)granules and phosphorus absorption were studied.Most YSR-3 cells stored one or two polyP granules in regular appearance and high-density.The diameter of the granules was about 400 nm measuring by a transmission electron microscope(TEM).After stained with 4,6-diamidino-2-phenylindole(DAPI)and visualized by a fluorescence microscope,the cells turned blue and the granules were bright yellow.The composition of granules includes P(major ingredient),Mg,S,K,and Ca as detected by an energy dispersive X-ray spectrometer(EDS).When inorganic phosphorus(po34-)and ferric ion(Fe3+)were added into media,the biomass increased and the cells formed intracellular polyP granules owing to the phosphorus assimilation from media.The YSR-3 obtained higher biomass by adding 0.02 g/L FePO4 than 0.005 g/L and 0.01 g/L FePO4;however,the phosphorus absorption was higher with 0.01 g/L FePO4 than 0.005 g/L and 0.02 g/L FePO4.The optical density at wavelength 480 nm(OD480nm)was 0.79 and 100%cells could form intracellular polyP granules.These results show that strain YSR-3 is able to acquire higher biomass and absorb more inorganic phosphorus when 0.01 g/L FePO4 is added.The characteristics of absorbing and storing phosphorus as intracellular inorganic polyP granules have a potential for application in high-efficiency phosphorus removal in wastewater treatment. 展开更多

Dipentaerythritol(DPER),4,40-diphenylmethanediisocyanate(MDI)and melamine(MEL)are used as raw materials to microencapsulate ammonium polyphosphate(MAPP)in situ polymerization.The MAPP is characterized by Fourier transform infrared(FT-IR),scanning electron microscopy(SEM),transmission electron microscopy(TEM)and thermal gravimetric analysis(TGA).The results show that the coating operation can effectively improve water resistance of ammonium polyphosphate(APP),and MAPP has higher residual rate than that of APP after combustion.The flame retardant action of MAPP and APP in polypropylene(PP)is investigated by the limited oxygen index(LOI),vertical burning test(UL-94),TGA,SEM,and cone calorimeter test(CCT).The LOI value of the PP/MAPP composite at the same loading is higher than that of PP/APP composite.UL 94 ratings of PP/MAPP composites are raised to V-0 at 20 wt%loading.The results of CCT also show that MAPP is more efficient than APP.The morphological structures observed by digital photos and SEM demonstrated that MAPP could be promoted to form the continuous and compact intumescent char layer.The flame retardant mechanism of PP/MAPP is also discussed. 展开更多

The flame-retardant properties of polyurethane(PU)containing ammonium polyphosphate(APP)and aluminum hydroxide(ATH)were investigated.Moreover,the flame retardant performance was investigated through thermogravimetric analysis,limiting oxygen index(LOI),vertical combustion(UL 94),and cone calorimeter.When 15 wt%APP and 5 wt%ATH were added together,the PU/15%APP/5%ATH sample shows better thermal stability and flame-retardant properties.When 15 wt%APP and 5 wt%ATH were added together,the LOI value of the PU/15%APP/5%ATH sample was 30.5%,and UL 94 V-0 rating was attained.Compared with PU,the peak heat release rate(PHRR),total heat release(THR),and average effective heat combustion(av-EHC)of the PU/15%APP/5%ATH sample decreased by 43.1%,21.0%,and 29.4%,respectively.In addition,the flame-retardant mechanism was investigated through cone calorimeter.The APP/ATH addition simultaneously exerted condensed phase and gas phase flame retardant effects.APP and ATH have synergistic flame retardant properties. 展开更多

Two kinds of commercial ammonium polyphosphate (APP) and three kinds of APP which were prepared in the laboratory were studied by X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transforms infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). In identification of the form Ⅱ crystal APP by XRD and FTIR, some discrepancies were discussed. It is pointed out that the absorbance of the FTIR spectra at 682 cm^-1 can exist not only in the form Ⅰ APP, but also in the form Ⅱ APP with the crystal lattice defects. The SEM images indicate that the form Ⅱ APP is of multilayer crystal structure. XRD and TEM can reveal the crystal lattice defects. 展开更多

Campylobacter jejuni(C. jejuni),a Gram-negative microaerophilic bacterium,is a predominant cause of bacterial foodborne gastroenteritis in humans worldwide. Despite its importance as a major foodborne pathogen,our understanding of the molecular mechanisms underlying C. jejuni stress survival and pathogenesis is limited. Inorganic polyphosphate(poly P) has been shown to play significant roles in bacterial resistance to stress and virulence in many pathogenic bacteria. C. jejuni contains the complete repertoire of enzymes required for poly P metabolism. Recent work in our laboratory and others have demonstrated that poly P controls a plethora of C. jejuni properties that impact its ability to survive in the environment as well as to colonize/infect mammalian hosts. This review article summarizes the current literature on the role of poly P in C. jejuni stress survival and virulence and discusses on how poly P-related enzymes can be exploited for therapeutic/prevention purposes. Additionally,the review article identifies potential areas for future investigation that would enhance our understanding of the role of poly P in C. jejuni and other bacteria,which ultimately would facilitate design of effective therapeutic/preventive strategies to reduce not only the burden of C. jejuni-caused foodborne infections but also of other bacterial infections in humans. 展开更多

Crystals of thallium-holmium polyphosphate T1Ho(PO3)4 were grown by flux method technique and characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction. Structure of T1Ho(PO3)4 was solved for the first time, and it crystallized in the monoclinic P21/n space group with the following unit-cell dimensions: a=1.02225(3) nm, b=0.88536(2) nm, c=1.09541(4) nm, β=105.888(1)°, V=0.95354(5) nm^3 and Z=4. The crystal structure was solved from 2174 independent reflections with final R1(F^2)=0.0442 and Rw(F^2)=0.0861 refined with 164 parameters. The atomic arrangement could be described as a long chain polyphosphate organization. Holmium atoms had eightfold coordination. The structure of T1Ho(PO3)4 consisted of HoO8 polyhedra sharing oxygen atoms with phosphoric group PO4. Infrared spectrum was investigated at room temperature in the frequencies range, 350--4000 cm^-1, showing some characteristic vibration bands of infinite chain structure of PO4 tetrahedra linked by bridging oxygen. 展开更多

Crop yield and quality are often limited by the amount of phosphate fertilizer added to infertile soils,a key limiting factor for sustainable development in modern agriculture.The polyphosphate kinase(ppk)gene-expressing transgenic rice with a single-copy line(ETRS)is constructed to improve phosphate fertilizer utilization efficiency for phosphorus resource conservation.To investigate the potential mechanisms of the increased biomass in ETRS in low phosphate culture,ETRS was cultivated in a low inorganic phosphate(Pi)culture medium(15μmol/L Pi,LP)and a normal Pi culture medium(300μmol/L Pi,CP),respectively.After 89 d of cultivation in different concentrations of phosphate culture media,the total phosphorus,polyphosphate(polyP),biomass,photosynthetic rate,nonstructural carbohydrate(NSC)contents,related enzyme activities,and related gene expression levels were analyzed.The results showed that ETRS had a high polyP amount to promote the photosynthetic rate in LP,and its biomass was almost the same as the wild type(WT)in CP.The NSC content of ETRS in LP was higher than that of WT in LP,but slightly lower than that of WT in CP.PolyP notably promoted the sucrose phosphate synthase activities of ETRS and significantly down-regulated the expression levels of sucrose transporter genes(OsSUT3 and OsSUT4),resulting in inhibiting the transport of sucrose from shoot to root in ETRS.It was concluded that polyP can stimulate the synthesis of NSCs in LP,which improved the growth of ETRS and triggered the biological activities of ETRS to save phosphate fertilizer.Our study provides a new way to improve the utilization rate of phosphate fertilizer in rice production. 展开更多

There are reports on the use of chemicals like sodium tri polyphosphate (STPP) and foreign materials like pearl tapioca (locally called ‘sagu’), jelly (litchi) to adulterate freshwater prawn (Macrobrachium rosenbergii) prior to freeze processing to increase their weight. Studies were, therefore, undertaken to determine the changes in product quality on the use of different concentrations of STPP, sagu and litchi under ice storage condition. Percent weight gain of prawn was 5.46, 18.87 and 23.50 when dipped in 2%, 4% and 6% STPP solution, respectively. In all cases maximum water uptake by prawn muscle was during the first 6 h with fastest weight gain with STPP solutions containing tap water compared to those of ice and tap water. Organoleptic quality of the STPP treated samples became brown and spongy after 8 h of dipping treatment under iced condition. Quality assessment studies conducted after injecting sagu and litchi in prawn muscle showed little or no difference with those of control samples during the first 6 h, which turned whitish and swollen with severe drip loss after 24 h of ice stored condition, indicating characteristics for easy identification of the injected shrimps by organoleptic method. 展开更多

Temperature is an important physical factor, which strongly influences biomass and metabolic activity. In this study, the effects of temperature on the anoxic metabolism of nitrite (NO2) to nitrous oxide (N2O) by polyphosphate accumulating organisms, and the process of the accumulation of N2O (during nitrite reduction), which acts as an electron acceptor, were investigated using 91% :e 4% Candidatus Accumulibacterphosphatis sludge. The results showed that N2O is accumulated when Accumulibacter first utilize nitrite instead of oxygen as the sole electron acceptor during the denitrifying phosphorus removal process. Properties such as nitrite reduction rate, phosphorus uptake rate, N2O reduction rate, and polyhydroxyalkanoate degradation rate were all influenced by temperature variation (over the range from 10 to 30℃ reaching maximum values at 25℃). The reduction rate of N2O by N2O reductase was more sensitive to temperature when N2O was utilized as the sole electron acceptor instead of NO2, and the N2O reduction rates, ranging from 0.48 to 3.53 N2O-N/(hr.g VSS), increased to 1.45 to 8.60 mg N2O-N/(hr·g VSS). The kinetics processes for temperature variation of 10 to 30℃ were (01 = 1.140-1.216 and θ2 = 1.139-1.167). In the range of 10℃ to 30℃, almost all of the anoxic stoichiometry was sensitive to temperature changes. In addition, a rise in N2O reduction activity leading to a decrease in N2O accumulation in long term operations at the optimal temperature (27℃ calculated by the Arrhenius model). 展开更多

The results showed that under the conditions of equal phosphate fertilizer application, ammonium polyphosphate added to phosphate fertilizer could significantly improve the plant height and stem diameter of corn seedlings after sowed for 60 days, while improved biomass of corn overground part and roots and root shoot ratio. When the ratio of ammonium polyphosphate and diammonium phosphate was 2:1 (available phosphorus ratio), the effect was the best. Ammonium polyphosphate had little effect on the phosphorus content of overground part of corn seedlings, but increased the phosphorus cumulant. In addition, ammonium polyphosphate applica- tion significantly improved the zinc concentration and zinc cumulant of corn over- ground part and roots. The results showed that ammonium polyphosphate had bet- ter bioavailability, meanwhile promoted the absorption of microelement zinc in crops. 展开更多

Based on the dynamic method,a quaternary system of ammonium polyphosphate (APP)-urea ammonium nitrate (UAN,CO(NH_(2))_(2)-NH_(4)NO_(3))-potassium chloride (KCl)-H_(2)O and its subsystems (APP-[CO(NH_(2))_(2)-NH_(4)NO_(3)]-H_(2)O,KCl-[CO(NH_(2))_(2)-NH_(4)NO_(3)]-H_(2)O and APP-KCl-H_(2)O) were systematically investigated at the temperature of 273.2 K.Each ternary phase diagram contains one invariant point and three crystallization regions.The crystallization regions are:(1)(NH_(4))_(3)HP_(2)O_(7),(NH_(4))_(4)P_(2)O_(7)and ((NH_(4))_(3)HP_(2)O_(7)+(NH_(4))_(4)P_(2)O_(7)) for APP-[CO(NH_(2))_(2)-NH_(4)NO_(3)]-H_(2)O diagram;(2) KCl,KNO_(3)and(KCl+KNO_(3)) for KCl-[CO(NH_(2))_(2)-NH_(4)NO_(3)]-H_(2)O diagram and (3)(NH_(4))_(3)HP_(2)O_(7),KCl and((NH_(4))_(3)HP_(2)O_(7)+KCl) for APP-KCl-H_(2)O diagram.The quaternary phase diagram of APP-[CO(NH_(2))_(2)-NH_(4)NO_(3)]-KCl-H_(2)O has no quaternary invariant point but includes four solid phase crystallization regions,i.e.,(NH_(4))_(3)HP_(2)O_(7),(NH_(4))_(4)P_(2)O_(7),KNO_(3)and KCl,in which the KNO_(3)region occupies the largest area.The maximum total nutrient content (N+P_(2)O_(5)+K_(2)O) existing as ionic forms in the APP-[CO(NH_(2))_(2)-NH_(4)NO_(3)]-H_(2)O,KCl-[CO(NH_(2))_(2)-NH_(4)NO_(3)]-H_(2)O,APP-KCl-H_(2)O and quaternary systems is 44.70%,32.86%,45.56%and 46.23%(mass),respectively,indicating that the maximum nutrient content can be reached using raw materials of the corresponding systems to prepare liquid fertilizer.In the quaternary system,the content of NH_(4)~+-N ascends with the increase of the total nutrient content,while the contents of NO_(3)^(-)-N and CO(NH_(2))_(2)-N increase with elevated total N.This work can help optimize the operating parameters for the production,storage and transportation of liquid fertilizers. 展开更多

It features 1D [PO3]∞ chains of condensed [PO4]^(3-) tetrahedral units. The polycrystalline sample of 1 exhibits second harmonic generation(SHG) response, demonstrating that the activity of the title compound is about 0.6 times that of KDP that is comparable to the isostructural RbBa2(PO3)5(2) and KPb2(PO3)5(3). Additionally, powder X-ray diffraction(PXRD), thermal analysis, IR spectroscopy, UV-Vis-near-IR diffuse reflectance spectroscopy, and theoretical calculations have been also studied, and the structure and property comparison among this type of polyphosphates are summarized. 展开更多

The interaction mechanism and phase evolution of ammonium polyphosphate(APP)mixed with muscovite(APP/muscovite)were studied by TG,XRD and SEM,respectively,during heating.When the temperature is not higher than 300 ℃,muscovite has no effect on the thermaldecomposition of APP,and the initialdecomposition temperature of APP/muscovite at 283 ℃ is basically the same as the APP at 295 ℃,and the main thermaldecomposition products are polyphosphoric acid and NH_4H_2PO_4 at 300 ℃.The polyphosphoric acid,the decomposition products of APP,can enable K and Siout of muscovite and interact with muscovite chemically to generate Al_2O_3·2SiO_2,α-SiO_2 and phosphates(AlPO_4 and K_5P_3O_(10))compounds during 400 ℃-800 ℃,which own obvious adhesive phenomenon and porous structure with the apparent porosity of 58.4%.Further reactions between phosphates other than reactions among Al_2O_3·2SiO_2 and α-SiO_2 can generate KAlP_2O_7 at 1 000 ℃ and the density of residualproduct is improved by low melting point phosphate filling pore to form relatively dense structure and decrease the apparent porosity to 44.4%.The flame resistant and self-supported ceramic materials are expected to enhance the fire-retarding synergistic effect between APP and muscovite. 展开更多

Insufficient metabolic energy,in the form of adenosine triphosphate(ATP),and bacterial infections are among the main causes for the development of chronic wounds.Previously we showed that the physi-ological inorganic polymer polyphosphate(polyP)massively accelerates wound healing both in animals(diabetic mice)and,when incorporated into mats,in patients with chronic wounds.Here,we focused on a hydrogel-based gel formulation,supplemented with both soluble sodium polyP(Na-polyP)and amor-phous calcium polyP nanoparticles(Ca-polyP-NP).Exposure of human epidermal keratinocytes to the gel caused a significant increase in extracellular ATP level,an effect that was even enhanced when Na-polyP was combined with Ca-polyP-NP.Furthermore,it is shown that the added polyP in the gel is converted into a coacervate,leading to encapsulation and killing of bacteria.The data on human chronic wounds showed that the administration of hydrogel leads to the complete closure of these wounds.Histological analysis of biopsies showed an increased granulation of the wounds and an enhanced microvessel forma-tion.The results indicate that the polyP hydrogel,due to its properties to entrap bacteria and generate metabolic energy,is a very promising formulation for a new therapy for chronic wounds. 展开更多

RbEu(PO<sub>3</sub>)<sub>4</sub> belongs to the monoclinic space group P2<sub>1</sub>/n (Z=4) and characterizes a three-dimensional framework made up from double PO<sub>4</sub> spiral chains, RbO<sub>11</sub>, and EuO<sub>8</sub> polyhedra. The absorption spectrum indicates that the compound has no absorption above 320nm with insulator characteristic. In addition, the infrared spectroscopy was carried out. 展开更多
