Selective laser melting(SLM)has become a critical technique for manufacturing molds with conformal cooling channels to achieve high cooling efficiencies.A novel selective laser-melted 718HH plastic mold steel with an excellent combination of strength and toughness was investigated.After SLM fabrication,quenching and tempering are conducted as post-printing heat treatment(PPHT)to improve the mechanical properties of the as-built samples.Both the microstructure and the corresponding mechanical properties were systematically studied.The results show that PPHT facilitates the complete martensite transformation.Meanwhile,the retained austenite(γ)phase was still found in the as-built samples.And high-density dislocations were dispersively distributed within the martensite matrix for both as-built and as-PPHTed samples.After PPHT,due to the recovery and recrystallization of martensite,reduced dislocation density and increased high-angle grain boundaries,the microhardness of the as-built samples decreased from 498.8±16.7 to 382.1±5.0 HV0.3.Correspondingly,the strength,including the ultimate tensile strength and yield strength,of the as-built and as-PPHTed samples also decreased from 1411.3±17.8 to 1208.7±3.2 MPa and 1267.3±11.7 to 1084.7±5.1 MPa,respectively.On the contrary,the value of impact energy significantly increased from 15.3±1.2 J(as-built)to 39.7±1.2 J(as-PPHTed).Notably,the mechanical properties of SLMed 718HH samples are significantly better than those of corresponding wrought samples. 展开更多

The void evolution of large-section plastic mold steel during multi-directional forging(MDF)was investigated using multiscale analysis.To simulate the forging process of the plastic mold steel(SDP1 steel)and realize micro-void reconstruction in a representative volume element(RVE),MDF experiment and void-characteristic evaluation of the SDP1 steel were carried out.Traditional upsetting and stretching forging(TUSF)and MDF were simulated to comparatively analyze the evolution of temperature,effective stress,and effective strain.By embedding RVE with a micro-void and using boundary condition by point tracking into the forging process,the single-void evolution in TUSF and MDF was studied.The effect of void orientation on single-void evolution was also investigated.The multi-scale analysis revealed the following results.(1)Compared with TUSF,MDF achieved a higher efficiency in void closure.(2)The closing efficiency of the void increased with the increase in angle h(the angle between the Z and long axes of the void).(3)The closing efficiency increased with the increase in the orientation angle during the forging process.On the basis of the important role of the main stress in each forging step on the void closure,an integral formula of the main stress was proposed.When main compressive-stress integration reached-0.4,the closed state of the void could be accurately determined. 展开更多

The kinetic characteristics of the clamping unit of plastic injection molding machine that is controlled by close loop with newly developed double speed variable pump unit are investigated. Considering the wide variation of the cylinder equivalent mass caused by the transmission ratio of clamping unit and the severe instantaneous impact force acted on the cylinder during the mold closing and opening process, an adaptive control principle of parameter and structure is proposed to improve its kinetic performance. The adaptive correlation between the acceleration feedback gain and the variable mass is derived. The pressure differential feedback is introduced to improve the dynamic performance in the case of small inertia and heavy impact load. The adaptation of sum pressure to load is used to reduce the energy loss of the system. The research results are verified by the simulation and experiment, The investigation method and the conclusions are also suitable for the differential cylinder system controlled by the traditional servo pump unit. 展开更多

In this study, it is attempted to give an insight into the injection processability of three self-prepared polymers from A to Z. This work presents material analysis, injection molding simulation, design of ex- periments alongside considering all interaction effects of controlling parameters carefully for green biodegradable polymeric systems, including polylactic acid (PLA), polylactic acid-thermoplastic poly- urethane (PLA-TPU) and polylactic acid-thermoplastic starch (PLA-TPS). The experiments were carried out using injection molding simulation software Autodesk Moldflov~~ in order to minimize warpage and volumetric shrinkage for each of the mentioned systems. The analysis was conducted by changing five significant processing parameters, including coolant temperature, packing time, packing pressure, mold temperature and melt temperature. Taguchi's [.27 (35) orthogonal array was selected as an efficient method for design of simulations in order to consider the interaction effects of the parameters and reduce spu- rious simulations. Meanwhile, artificial neural network (ANN) was also used for pattern recognition and optimization through modifying the processing conditions. The Taguchi coupled analysis of variance (ANOVA) and ANN analysis resulted in definition of optimum levels for each factor by two completely different methods. According to the results, melting temperature, coolant temperature and packing time had significant influence on the shrinkage and warpage. The ANN optimal level selection for minimiza- tion of shrinkage and/or warpage is in good agreement with ANOVA optimal level selection results. This investigation indicates that PLA-TPU compound exhibits the highest resistance to warpage and shrink- age defects compared to the other studied compounds. 展开更多

In this study, Virtual Reality (VR)-based plastic injection molding training system (VPIMTS), which can be modeled as an integrated system with a task planning module, an intelligent instruction module, a simulation module, and virtual envi-ronment (VE) module, was developed. Presented in this paper are an architecture of VPIMTS, a practical knowledge modelling approach for modelling the training scenarios of the system by using Petri nets formalism and key techniques (FEM, injection molding procedure modelling) which have been developed independently. The utilization of the Petri net model realized the environment where the trainee can behave freely, and also made it possible to equip the system with the function of showing the next action of the trainee whenever he wants. The overall system is a powerful approach for highly improving the trainee’s comprehension and injection molding study-efficiency by building digital, intelligent, knowledgeable, and visual aids. 展开更多

以某空气净化器超薄壁外壳翘曲变形量为质量控制目标,基于Moldflow软件模拟结果,优化了浇注系统和冷却系统,使翘曲变形量由初始方案4.105 mm依次降为3.165和2.600 mm,相对于初始方案分别降低了22.9%和17.9%;并采用DOE分析对工艺参数进... 以某空气净化器超薄壁外壳翘曲变形量为质量控制目标,基于Moldflow软件模拟结果,优化了浇注系统和冷却系统,使翘曲变形量由初始方案4.105 mm依次降为3.165和2.600 mm,相对于初始方案分别降低了22.9%和17.9%;并采用DOE分析对工艺参数进行了优选,结果表明,当熔体温度为220℃、保压压力为60 MPa、保压时间为11.69 s、注射时间为5 s、周期时间为56.35 s、冷却介质入口温度为10℃时,翘曲变形量达到最小,其值为2.138 mm,相对于初始方案总体下降幅度为47.9%。通过试模样品检测,产品翘曲变形平均值为2.246 mm,与数值模拟结果误差为5.1%,为超薄壁外壳的模具结构评价、工艺参数优选及翘曲变形分析提供了数值模型和控制方法。 展开更多

Novel Plastic Encapsulation Holding Method for Automobile Glass Using Injection Molding Process

However,these materials cannot hold g... Glass positioning and holding is difficult in the process of injection molding encapsulation of automobile glass. A suction cup or soft resin is always introduced in this process. However,these materials cannot hold glass tightly,thus resulting in the unsteady quality of toughened glass and encapsulated plastic. To solve this problem,a novel holding method called magnetic high-pressure holding with twin bags is proposed to address the features of toughened glass and the encapsulation injection process. Firstly,a pair of permanent magnets is introduced as energy source,followed by the magnetization of a couple of magnetic particle bags. Contact between the single bag and the glass surface will enable the couple of magnetic particle bags to hold glass tightly and to self-adapt the freeform of the glass. Secondly, an experimental system with mechanical and control systems is designed. This system is controlled by the opening and closing force of the mold,which turns the magnetic field on or off to hold or loosen the glass. The magnetic field distributions are measured at important positions of the permanent magnets and in the magnetized particles in the experiments to determine the holding performance. Finally, the process of determining the parameters of the magnet and its attenuation is analyzed, including the minimum friction force between the glass and the particle bag during injection molding,the magnetic energy product and the magnetized filed distributions,and the re-checking method for these parameters. The theoretical analysis and the experimental result show that this flexible holding system may produce sufficient holding force,which not only protects glass but self-adapts the glass freeform as well. The production practice meets the technical requirements of injection molding with a defect-free surface,with no scratches and cracks on the glass and no slight glass movements in the mold cavity. 展开更多

In order to improve the machinability but not to impair other properties of the prehardened mold steel for plastic, the composition was designed by application of Thermo-Calc software package to regulate the type of non-metallic inclusion formed in the steel. The regulated non-metallic inclusion type was also observed by SEM and EDX. Then the machinability assessment of the steel with designed composition under different conditions was studied by the measurement of tool wear amount and cutting force. The results show that the composition of free cutting elements adding to mold steel for plastic can be optimized to obtain proper type of non-metallic inclusion in the aid of Thermo-Calc, compared with the large volume fraction of soft inclusion which is needed for promoting ductile fracture at low cutting speeds, the proper type of inclusion at high cutting speeds is glassy oxide inclusion. 基于薄壁深腔零件注塑特点,采用高压快速成型的热流道浇注系统。注塑高压对模板的冲击力大,模板容易变形,因此在底板和动模板之间安装支撑柱,提高模具刚度。针对排气难题,提出分级排气系统,在传统排气槽基础上增加可换式排气柱,防止填... 基于薄壁深腔零件注塑特点,采用高压快速成型的热流道浇注系统。注塑高压对模板的冲击力大,模板容易变形,因此在底板和动模板之间安装支撑柱,提高模具刚度。针对排气难题,提出分级排气系统,在传统排气槽基础上增加可换式排气柱,防止填充不满,烧焦等现象。凸模凹模接触面为斜面,为了防止注射冲击力使模板受力不平衡,在动定模板之间设置平衡块支撑和边锁结构,提高模板的定位精度。利用注塑机推杆直接推出和复位推板,减小模具厚度,降低生产成本。根据动定模和滑块结构,分域布置控温冷却网络,在浇口位置、定模、动模、型芯和滑块上分别设置了冷却水道,采用直通+隔水板冷却形式,冷却充分,缩短成型周期,得到较好的表面质量。实践证明,该设计具有一定现实意义。 展开更多
