The hot deformation simulation of a ZK60 magnesiuln alloy at different temperatures from 373 to 673 K and different strain rates of 0.1, 0.01 and 0.002 s^-1 was studied by using the Gleebe-1500 simulator. The plastic deformation behavior was measured and the deformation activation energy was calculated. The microstructures of ZK60 magnesium alloy with an addition of neodymium during the deformation process were observed by using Polyvar-MET optical microscope and Tecnai G^2 20 TEM. The results show that the working hardening, the dynamic recovery and the dynamic recrystallization occur during the plastic deformation process at different temperatures and strain rates. The dynamic recrystallization starts when the temperature is over 473 K and the DRX grain size after hot deformation is only 5-10 μm. So the refined grains improve both the tensile strength and the elongation of alloys at room temperature. Neodymium is added into the alloy and a precipitate phase Mg12Nd that impedes the movement of dislocations is formed, which benefits to increasing mechanical properties of ZK60 magnesium alloy. 展开更多

To investigate the influence of magnitude and distribution of the transverse normal pressure on deformation behavior of sheet metal, viscous pressure bulge test (VPB) of overlapping sheet metals is proposed, where the overlapped sheet metal is deformed under the dual-sided normal pressure provided by viscous medium and the overlapping sheet. The transverse normal pressure loading features provided by overlapping sheet metals are first simulated by DEFORM-2D.It shows that the magnitude and space distribution of transverse normal pressure are dependent on strain hardening exponent n-,strength coefficient K-and thickness t-values of the overlapping sheet metal.Based on the stress, deviator stress and strain distribution resulted from the finite element simulation,it indicated that the uniform transverse normal pressure has no effect on deviator stress, the figure and strain distribution of bulge specimens have no change. The non-uniform transverse normal pressure can remarkably change the figure and metal flow of specimens, and the formability of sheet metal can be improved by controlling the transverse normal pressure distribution. 展开更多

The research demonstrated that laser powder bed fusion(LPBF)coupled with controlled annealing at 1200°C,could significantly increase the proportion of coincidence site lattice(CSL)grain boundary, thereby achieving an outstanding synergy of enhanced strength and exceptional ductility. The plastic deformation behavior, strain hardening behavior, and fracture behavior of LPBF 316L steel annealing at 1200℃for 20 h were studied through quasi-in-situ tensile process. It was found that LPBF 316L steel formed a certain proportion of deformation twins during the tensile process, and the formation of twins changed the crystal orientation, thus promoting further slip and crystal deformation. The synergistic effect of slip and twin promoted higher plasticity.LPBF process coupled with controlled annealing at 1200°C for 20 h leads to a ultimate tensile strength of 613 MPa and total elongation of 73.8%. 展开更多

Diffusion bonding(DB)with interlayers is sought-after for manufacturing high-performance turbine disks of powder metallurgy(PM)superalloys with precise and intricate inner cavity structures.Developing novel interlayer materials is challenging but crucial for enhancing bonding quality and joint properties. We designed a multi-interlayer composite bonding(MICB)method, employing sandwich-structured inter-layers of"BNi2/high entropy alloy(HEA)/BNi2",to join a PM superalloy FGH98.The MICB joint exhibited an ultrahigh shear strength of~1132 MPa and exceptional ductility, indicating a typical ductile fracture pattern with numerous dimples.Owing to the introduction of liquid BNi2 interlayer, initial bonding in-terfaces were eliminated and replaced by newborn grain boundaries(GBs),preventing brittle interfacial fracture.Due to the diffusion of Al/Ti/Ta from the base metals(BMs),massive orderedγ'nanoparticles also precipitated in the joint. Moreover, the addition of HEA foil reduced the stacking fault energy(SFE)of the joint and facilitated the formation of deformation twins(DTs).Thus, during the deformation process, theγ'nanoparticles, and multiple substructures like stacking faults(SFs),Lomer-Cottrell(L-C)locks,DTs,and 9R phases enhanced the work-hardening capability and strengthened the joint.Simultaneously, the multiplication and interaction of DTs induced a softening mechanism of dynamic recrystallization(DRX)during the entire deformation process and dominated when the plastic instability occurred, resulting in numerous adiabatic shear bands(ASBs)consisting ofγ/γ'nano-bands,which indicates a significant im-provement of the joint ductility. 展开更多

China has been developed into one of the most active regions in terms of both fundamental and applied research on magnesium (Mg) and its alloys in the world from a solid base laid by its prominent metallurgist and materials scientists over the past decades. Nowadays, a large number of young-generation researchers have been inspired by their predecessors and become the key participants in the fields of Mg alloys, which consequently led to the establishment of China Youth Scholar Society for Magnesium Alloys Research in 2015. Since then, the first two China Youth Scholars Symposiums on Mg Alloys Research had been held at Harbin (2015) and Chongqing (2016) China, respectively. A number of crucial research inter- ests related to fundamental and applied Mg research were discussed at the conferences and summarized in this short perspective, aiming to boost far-reaching initiatives for development of new Mg-based materials to satisfy the requirements for a broad range of industrial employments. Herein, four main aspects are included as follows: i) Plastic deformation mechanism and strengthening strategy, ii) Design and development of new Mg-based materials, iii) Key service properties, and iv) New processing technologies. 展开更多
