The critical velocity and complex frequency of pipe conveying fluid on Winkler elastic foundation and two-parameter foundation were calculated by po,ver series method. Compared, with pipe without considering elastic foundation, the numerical results show that elastic foundation can increase the critical flow velocity of static instability and dynamic instability of pipe. And the increase of foundation parameters may increase the critical flow velocity of static instability and dynamic instability of pipe, thereby delays the occurrence of divergence and flutter instability of pipe. For higher mass ratio beta, in the combination of certain foundation parameters, pipe behaves the phenomenon of restabilization and redivergence after the occurrence of static instability, and then coupled-mode flutter takes place.展开更多

In this work, firstly, the experiments are carried out to test two kinds of stainless steel pipes by applying guided waves NDT, one is integrated pipe and another is non-integrated pipe with a small hole defect, and the detected guided waves echo signals are respectively obtained. Secondly, the measured signals are processed by matching pursuit method and the Chirplet matching atom parameters are calculated. By calculating the time-frequency distributions spectrum of detected guided waves echo signals, torsional, flexural and longitudinal guided waves modes are identified from the intact pipe, and the two wave-packets with torsional and flexural guided waves modes are also identified from the pipe with hole defect. The results showed that the matching pursuit method has a tremendous advantage to identify different guided waves modes in pipes nondestructive testing.展开更多

A trial sensor using an electromagnetic acoustic transducer (EMAT), which can generate the SH-mode plate wave propagating in the circumferential direction, has been developed to realize this objective. It consists of a circulating electromagnetic induction coil around the pipe and many permanent magnets arranged on the surface of the pipe in the circumferential direction. It is postulated that the intensity of the SH-mode plate wave propagating in the circumferential direction is dependent on any defects in the circumferential direction. A resonance method was then utilized to obtain a stronger received signal. As a result, it was confirmed that the resonance status can be detected. The relationship between the signal intensity and the pipe thickness was then evaluated. It was confirmed that the wall thickness of about 20% can be detected under a static condition. Finally, a moving test has been executed by using an axially traveling device manufactured by trial. The test pipes with different sizes of drilled holes were prepared. The change in the received signal intensity according to different sizes of the drilled holes was successfully detected.展开更多

Four basic lateral modes, acquired by finite-element (FE) eigenvalue buckling analysis, are combined to provide the needed grid configurations for describing a real pipelay imperfection and an arc-length algorithm is used to analyze the snap-through process of the shell-element-grid model under nonlinear frictional boundary conditions. This paper also presents evaluation methods for the lateral buckling of two types of pipe-in-pipe systems that are used in the offshore oil and gas industry. For evaluating the buckling and postbuckling of compliant pipe-in-pipe systems FE analyses were carried out to judge the occurrence of the system buckling and furthermore to check postbuckling stresses induced in the buckles. The calculated results of the modified Riks algorithm indicate that only when high temperature would not trigger an abrupt short-wavelength buckle and when no yielding has been induced in the unavoidable long-wavelength buckles, the thermal stability and safety of compliant pipe-in-pipe systems can be proved. In the non-compliant pipe-in-pipe systems, firstly small-amplitude buckles of the carrier pipe may occur in the annulus between carrier pipe and casing pipe and the contact forces between the spacers and the casing pipe may drive the buckle of the pipe-in-pipe systems on the seabed. Based on the classical analytical solution of pipe buckling, four potential buckling modes corresponding to finite- element models are developed to evaluate the stability and the postbuckling strength of such pipe-in-pipe systems.展开更多

The effect of relaxation time of vis coelastic materials on the variation curve between dimensionless flow velocity and the real part and imaginary part of dimensionless complex frequencies in the first-three-order modes were analyzed concretely. It is found that critical flow velocities of divergence instability of Maxwell viscoelastic pipes conveying fluid with both ends simply supported decrease with the decrease of the relaxation time, while after the onset of divergence instability ( buckling) critical flow velocities of coupled-mode flutter increase with the decrease of the relaxation time. Particularly, in the case of greater mass ratio. with the decrease of relaxation time, the onset of coupled-mode flutter delays, and even does not take place. When the relaxation time is greater than 10(3), stability behavior of viscoelastic pipes conveying fluid is almost similar to the elastic pipes conveying fluid.展开更多
