Understanding the spatio-temporal variations of the FFPFFD and LFD is beneficial to reduce the harmful impacts of climate change on agricultural production and enhance the agricultural adaptation. This study examined daily minimum temperatures for 823 national-level meteorological stationscalculated the values of FFDLFD and FFP for station-specific and region-specific from 1951 to 2012estimated the gradients of linear regression for station-specific moving averages of FFDLFD and FFPand assessed station-specific time series of FFP and detected the abrupt change. The results as follows: at both the station level and the regional levelthe FFP across China decreases with the increase of latitude from south to northand with the increase of altitude from east to west generally. At the station levelthe inter-annual fluctuations of FFDLFD and FFP in south and west agricultural regions are greater than those in north and east. At the regional levelexcluding the QT regiontemporal changes of FFP are relatively small in both the low-latitude and the high-latitude regionsbut for the mid-latitude regions. According to the linear trend gradients of the moving average values of station-specific FFDLFD and FFPFFD was delayedLFD advancedand FFP extended gradually over the 80% of China. Furthermorethe change magnitudes for FFDLFD and FFP in the north and east agricultural regions are higher than that in the southern and western. Among the 659 station-specific time series of FFP examined by the Mann-Kendall test341 stationslocated mainly in the north regionhave one identifiable and significant abrupt change. And at the 341 stations with identified abrupt changesmost(57%) abrupt changes occurred during 1991–2012followed by the periods of 1981–1990(28%)1971–1980(12%)and 1951–1970(3%). The spatio-temporal variations of FFDLFD and FFP would provide important guidance to agricultural practices.展开更多

This study evaluated temporal and spatial variation of topsoil SOC density and CSP of 21 soil groups across Hebei Province, China, using data collected during the second national soil survey in the 1980 s and during the recent soil inventory in 2010. The CSP can be estimated by the method that the saturated SOC content subtracts the actual SOC associated with clay and silt. Overall, the SOC density and CSP of most soil groups increased from the 1980 s to 2010 and varied between different soil groups. Among all soil groups, Haplic phaeozems had the highest SOC density and Endogleyic solonchaks had the largest CSP. Areas of soil groups with the highest SOC density(90 to 120 t C ha^(–1)) and carbon sequestration(120 to 160 t C ha^(–1)) also increased over time. With regard to spatial distribution, the north of the province had higher SOC density but lower CSP than the south. With respect to land-use type, cultivated soils had lower SOC density but higher CSP than uncultivated soils. In addition, SOC density and CSP were influenced by soil physicochemical properties, climate and terrain and were most strongly correlated with soil humic acid concentration. The results suggest that soil groups(uncultivated soils) of higher SOC density have greater risk of carbon dioxide emission and that management should be aimed at maximizing carbon sequestration in soil groups(cultivated soils) with greater CSP. Furthermore, soils should be managed according to their spatial distributions of SOC density and carbon sequestration potential under different soil groups.展开更多

Understanding of the spatiotemporal distribution of pollutants and identification of the sources in the river systems is a prerequisite for the protection and sustainable utilization of the water resources. Multivariate statistical techniques such as Principal Component Analysis (PCA) and Factor Analysis (FA) were applied in this study to investigate the temporal and spatial variations of water quality and appoint the major factors of pollution in the Shailmari River system. Water quality data for 14 physicochemical parameters from 11 monitoring sites over the year of 2014 in three sampling seasons were collected and analyzed for this study. Kruskal-Wallis test showed significant (p < 0.01) temporal and spatial variations in all of the water quality parameters of the river water. Principal component analysis (PCA) allowed extracting the contributing parameters affecting the seasonal water quality in the river system. Scatter plots of the PCs showed the tidal and spatial variation within river system and identified parameters controlling the behavior in each case. Factor analysis (FA) further reduced the data and extracted factors which are significantly responsible for water quality variation in the river. The results indicate that the parameters controlling the water quality in different seasons are related with salinity, anthropogenic pollution (sewage disposal, effluents) and agricultural runoff in pre-monsoon;precipitation induced surface runoff in monsoon;and erosion, oxidation or organic pollution (point and non-point sources) in post-monsoon. Therefore, the study reveals the applicability and usefulness of the multivariate statistical methods in assessing water quality of river by identifying the potential environmental factors controlling the water quality in different seasons which might help to better understand, monitor and manage the quality of the water resources.展开更多

Here we use an integrated remote sensing normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) and in-situ above-ground net primary production (ANPP) measurements to establish an empirical exponen- tial model to estimate spatial ANPP across the entire Tibetan Plateau. The spatial and temporal variations in PUE (the ratio of ANPP to mean annual precipitation (MAP)), as well as the relationships between PUE and other controls, were then investigated during the 2001- 2012 study period. At a regional scale, PUE increased from west to east. PUE anomalies increased significantly (〉 0.1 g.m^-2.mm^-1/10 yr) in the southern areas of the Tibetan Plateau yet decreased ( 〉 0.02 g. m^-2. mm 1/10 yr) in the northeastern areas. For alpine meadow, we obtained an obvious breaking point in trend of PUE against elevation gradients at 3600 m above the sea level, which showed a contrasting relationship. At the inter-annual scale, PUE anomalies were smaller in alpine steppe than in alpine meadow. The results show that PUE of Tibetan grasslands is generally high in dry years and low in wet years.展开更多

Major conclusions were as follows. (1) The long-term annual and seasonal pre- cipitation in the study area indicated an increasing trend with some oscillations during 1961-2010; however, the summer precipitation in the Lantsang (Lancang) River Headwater Region (LARHR), and the autumn precipitation in the Yangtze River Headwater Region (YERHR) of the THRHR decreased in the same period. (2) The amount of annual precipita- tion in the THRHR and its three sub-headwater regions was greater in the 1980s and 2000s. The springs were fairly wet after the 1970s, while the summers were relatively wet in the 1960s, 1980s and 2000s. In addition, the amount of precipitation in the autumn was greater in the 1970s and 1980s, but it was relatively less for the winter precipitation, except in the 1990s (3) The normal values of spring, summer, winter and annual precipitation in the THRHR and its three sub-headwater regions all increased, but the normal value of summer precipitation in the LARHR had a negative trend and the normal value of winter precipitation declined in general. (4) The spring and winter precipitation increased in most of the THRHR. The summer autumn and annual precipitation increased mainly in the marginal area of the west and north and decreased in the regions of Yushu, Zaduo, Jiuzhi and Banma. (5) The spring and winter precipitation in the THRHR and its three sub-headwater regions showed an abrupt change, except for the spring precipitation in the YARHR. The abrupt changes of spring precipitation were mainly in the late 1980s and early 1990s, while the abrupt changes of winter precipita- tion were primary in the mid- to late 1970s. This research would be helpful for further under- standing the trends and periodicity of precipitation and for watershed-based water resource management in the THRHR.展开更多

The monthly chlorophyll distribution in the East China Sea in 1998 was obtained from this improved model on calculation results of SeaBAM. The euphotic depth distribution in 1998 in the East China Sea is calculated by using remote sensing data of K 490 from SeaWiFS according to the relation between the euphotic depth and the oceanic diffuse attenuation coefficient. With data of ocean chlorophyll concentration, euphotic depth, ocean surface photosynthetic available radiation (PAR), daily photoperiod and optimal rate of daily carbon fixation within a water column, the monthly and annual primary productivity spatio-temporal distributions in the East China Sea in 1998 were obtained based on VGPM model. Based on analysis of those distributions, the conclusion can be drawn that there is a clear bimodality character of primary productivity in the monthly distribution in the East China Sea. In detail, the monthly distribution of primary productivity stays the lowest level in winter and rises rapidly to the peak in spring. It gets down a little in summer, and gets up a little in autumn. The daily average of primary productivity in the whole East China Sea is 560.03 mg/m 2 /d, which is far higher than the average of subtropical ocean areas. The annual average of primary productivity is 236.95 g/m 2 /a. The research on the seasonal variety mechanism of primary productivity shows that several factors that affect the spatio-temporal distribution may include the chlorophyll concentration distribution, temperature condition, the Yangtze River diluted water variety, the euphotic depth, ocean current variety, etc. But the main influencing factors may be different in each local sea area.展开更多

Dense aftershocks distribute along Longmenshan central fault zone of NE direction and form a narrow strip with the length of 325 krn and the depth between several and 40 km. The depth profile (section of NW direction) vertical to the strike of aftershock zone (NE direction) shows anisomerous wedgy distribution characteristic of afiershock concentrated regions; it is related to the force form of the Longmenshan nappe tectonic belt. The stronger aftershocks could be divided into northern segment and southern segment apparently and the focal depths of strong aftershocks in the 50 km area between northern segment and southern segment are shallower. It seems like 'to be going to rupture' segment. We also study focal mechanisms and segmentation of strong aftershocks. The principal compressive stress azimuth of aftershock area is WNW direction and the faulting types of aftershocks at southern and northern segment have the same proportion. Because afiershocks distribute on different secondary faults, their focal mechanisms present complex local tectonic stress field. The faulting of seven strong earthquakes on the Longmenshan central fault is mainly characterized by thrust with the component of right-lateral strike-slip. Meantime six strong aftershocks on the Longmenshan back-range fault and Qingchuan fault present strike-slip faulting. At last we discuss the complex segmentation rupture mechanism of the Wenchuan earthquake.展开更多

Using production concentration index model and in- dustry' s barycenter theory, we analyzed the spatio-temporal distribution of tea production and barycenter movement trajectory of tea plantations and production in China between 1986 and 2015. Driving forces of the movement were also analyzed. From 1986 to 2000, tea production in China's Mainland of grew slowly (by 210x103 t). The continuous increase in tea yield per unit area was the primary contributor (more than 60%) to the growth in tea production during this period. Since China joined the World Trade Organization (WTO) in 2001, tea production has grown rapidly, by 1.59x106 t between 2001 and 2015. The increase in the tea plantations area is the main contributor. Over the last 30 years, the barycenters of tea production in China have moved westward from the Dongting Lake Plain to the eastern fringe of the Yun- nan-Guizhou Plateau. Guizhou, Guangxi, and Sichuan in southwestern China have gradually become regions of new concentrated tea plantations and main tea production provinces. Lower cost of land and labor in southwestern China are the main drivers of the westward movement of China's tea industry. In addition, supportive policies and the favorable natural geographical environment contribute to the westward movement of tea industry. Our research highlights the spatio-temporal variation of China's tea production in the last three decades. The result indicates importance to make appropriate policies to promote the development of tea industry in China.展开更多

文摘Since the 1975 M_(S)7.3 Haicheng earthquake,spatio-temporal variations in the gravity field have attracted much attention as potential earthquake precursors.Recent technical advances in terrestrial gravity observation, along with the construction of a high-precision mobile gravity network covering Chinese mainland, have positioned temporal gravity variations(GVs)as an important tool for clarifying the signal characteristics and dynamic mechanisms of crustal sources.Reportedly, crustal mass transfer, which is affected by stress state and structural environment, alters the characteristics of the regional gravity field, thus serving as an indicator for locations of moderate to strong earthquakes and a seismology-independent predictor for regions at risk for strong earthquakes. Therefore, quantitatively tracking time-varying gravity is of paramount importance to enhance the effectiveness of earthquake prediction. In this study,we divided the areas effectively covered by the terrestrial mobile gravity network in the Sichuan-Yunnan region into small grids based on the latest observational data(since 2018)from the network.Next,we calculated the 1-and 3-year GVs and gravity gradient indicators(amplitude of analytic signal,AAS;total horizontal derivative,THD;and amplitude of vertical gradient,AVG)to quantitatively characterize variations in regional time-varying gravity field.Next,we assessed the effectiveness of gravity field variations in predicting earthquakes in the Sichuan-Yunnan region using Molchan diagrams constructed for gravity signals of 13 earthquakes(M≥5.0;occurred between 2021 and 2024)within the terrestrial mobile gravity network. The results reveal a certain correspondence between gravity field variations and the locations of moderate and strong earthquakes in the Sichuan-Yunnan region.Furthermore, the 3-year AAS and AVG outperform the 3-year THD in predicting subsequent seismic events.Notably, the AAS and AVG showed large probability gains prior to the M_(S)6.8 Luding earthquake, indicating their potential for earthquake prediction.

文摘This essay combines the Defense Meteorological Satellite Program Operational Linescan System(DMSP-OLS)nighttime light data and the Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite(VIIRS)nighttime light data into a“synthetic DMSP”dataset, from 1992 to 2020,to retrieve the spatio-temporal variations in energy-related carbon emissions in Xinjiang,China. Then, this paper analyzes several influencing factors for spatial differentiation of carbon emissions in Xinjiang with the application of geographical detector technique. Results reveal that(1)total carbon emissions continued to grow, while the growth rate slowed down in the past five years.(2)Large regional differences exist in total carbon emissions across various regions.Total carbon emissions of these regions in descending order are the northern slope of the Tianshan(Mountains)>the southern slope of the Tianshan>the three prefectures in southern Xinjiang>the northern part of Xinjiang.(3)Economic growth, population size, and energy consumption intensity are the most important factors of spatial differentiation of carbon emissions. The interaction between economic growth and population size as well as between economic growth and energy consumption intensity also enhances the explanatory power of carbon emissions’spatial differentiation. This paper aims to help formulate differentiated carbon reduction targets and strategies for cities in different economic development stages and those with different carbon intensities so as to achieve the carbon peak goals in different steps.

文摘The frost-free period(FFP)first frost date(FFD) and last frost date(LFD) have been regard as the important climate variables for agricultural production. The spatio-temporal variations of FFDLFD and FFP would provide important guidance to agricultural practices.

文摘Reliable prediction of soil organic carbon(SOC) density and carbon sequestration potential(CSP) plays an important role in the atmospheric carbon dioxide budget. Furthermore, soils should be managed according to their spatial distributions of SOC density and carbon sequestration potential under different soil groups.
文摘Surface water has become one of the most vulnerable resources on the earth due to deterioration of its quality from diverse sources of pollution. Therefore, the study reveals the applicability and usefulness of the multivariate statistical methods in assessing water quality of river by identifying the potential environmental factors controlling the water quality in different seasons which might help to better understand, monitor and manage the quality of the water resources.

文摘Understanding the spatio-temporal variations of temperature and precipitation in the arid and semiarid region of China(ASRC)is of great significance for promoting regional eco-environmental protection and policy-making.In this study, the annual and seasonal spatio-temporal patterns of change in average temperature and precipitation and their influencing factors in the ASRC were analyzed using the Mann-Kendall test, linear tendency estimation, accumulative anomaly and the Pearson’s correlation coefficient. The results showed that both annual average temperature and average annual precipitation increased in the ASRC during 1951–2019.The temperature rose by about 1.93℃and precipitation increased by about 24 mm.The seasonal average temperature presented a significant increase trend, and the seasonal precipitation was conspicuous ascension in spring and winter. The spatio-temporal patterns of change in temperature and precipitation differed, with the southwest area showing the most obvious variation in each season.Abrupt changes in annual and seasonal average temperature and precipitation occurred mainly around the 1990 s and after 2000,respectively.Atmospheric circulation had an important effect on the trends and abrupt changes in temperature and precipitation. The East Asian summer monsoon had the largest impact on the trend of average annual temperature,as well as on the abrupt changes of annual average temperature and precipitation.Temperature and precipitation changes in the ASRC were influenced by long-term and short-term as well as direct and indirect anthropogenic and natural factors. This study identifies the characteristics of spatio-temporal variations in temperature and precipitation in the ASRC and provides a scientific reference for the formulation of climate change responses.

文摘The rapid expansion of China’s urban agglomerations in recent decades has resulted in over-occupied ecological spaces and increased ecological pressure that are restricting healthy regional development. This paper examines the structure and characteristics of distribution of“production-living-ecological”spaces in five mega-urban agglomerations in China:Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei(BTH),the Yangtze River Delta(YRD),Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area(GBA),Chengdu-Chongqing(CY),and the middle reaches of the Yangtze River(MYR).We analyze spatial and temporal variations in the ecological spaces and factors influencing them from 1990 to 2020,and examine the comprehensive ecological carrying capacity and status of ecological spaces in the past 30 years based on the available water resources, regulation of water and air quality, and leisure and recreation. The results show the following:(1)Urban agglomerations in different stages of formation and development represent varying area ratios of“ecological-production-living”spaces.The modes of expansion and evolution of the living spaces are dominated by multi-center combinations as well as the spatial structure of ecological spaces, including barrier, compact, discrete, and fully enveloping spaces.(2)From 1990 to 2020,the area occupied by living spaces in urban agglomerations continued to increase significantly while that of spaces for ecological production decreased.Except in the GBA,ecological spaces have exhibited a trend of increase in area, especially in the past 10 years. The area ratios and spatio-temporal variations in the“production-living-ecological”spaces indicate that the main functions of production and ecological spaces in mega-urban agglomerations have shifted from supply to regulation and culture, and reflect the transition from rapid urbanization to sustainable urbanization in China.(3)The comprehensive ecological carrying capacities of 78.6%,73.1%,54.5%,56.3%,and 25.8%of cities in BTH,YRD,GBA,CY and MYR are severely overburdened.Water supply and the regulation of water quality are the main factors restricting the ecological carrying capacity of BTH and YRD while leisure and recreation services have hindered the capacities of GBA and CY.Policymakers thus need to pay attention to the conservation and rational layout of ecological spaces to reduce the ecological pressure in urban agglomerations. The work here can provide a scientific basis for the green and sustainable development of urban agglomerations as well as the optimized configuration of“production-living-ecological”spaces.

文摘Cirrus clouds play a crucial role in the energy balance of the Earth-atmosphere system. We investigated the spatiotemporal variations of cirrus over the South China Sea(SCS)using satellite data(MOD08,MYD08,CALIPSO)and reanalysis data(MERRA-2)from March 2007 to February 2015(eight years). The horizontal distribution reveals lower cirrus fraction values in the northern SCS and higher values in the southern region, with minima observed in March and April and maxima sequentially occurring in August(northern SCS,NSCS),September(middle SCS,MSCS),and December(southern SCS,SSCS).Vertically, the cirrus fraction peaks in summer and reaches its lowest levels in spring.Opaque cirrus dominates during summer in the NSCS and MSCS,comprising 53.6%and 55.9%,respectively,while the SSCS exhibits a higher frequency of opaque cirrus relative to other cloud types.Subvisible cirrus clouds have the lowest frequency year-round,whereas thin cirrus is most prominent in winter in the NSCS(46.3%)and in spring in the MSCS(45.3%).A case study from September 2021 further explores the influence of ice crystal habits on brightness temperature(BT)over the SCS.Simulations utilizing five ice crystal shapes from the ARTS DDA(Atmospheric Radiative Transfer Simulator Discrete Dipole Approximation)database and the RTTOV 12.4 radiative transfer model reveal that the 8-column-aggregate shape best represents BT in the NSCS and SSCS,while the large-block-aggregate shape performs better in the SSCS.

文摘The National Geophysical Data Center(NGDC)of the United States has collected aeromagnetic data for input into a series of geomagnetic models to improve model resolution;however,in the Tibetan Plateau region,ground-based observations remain insufficient to clearly reflect the characteristics of the region’s lithospheric magnetism. In this study,we evaluate the lithospheric magnetism of the Tibetan Plateau by using a 3D surface spline model based on observations from>200 newly constructed repeat stations(portable stations)to determine the spatial distribution of plateau geomagnetism,as well as its correlation with the tectonic features of the region. We analyze the relationships between M≥5 earthquakes and lithospheric magnetic field variations on the Tibetan Plateau and identify regions susceptible to strong earthquakes. We compare the geomagnetic results with those from an enhanced magnetic model(EMM2015)developed by the NGDC and provide insights into improving lithospheric magnetic field calculations in the Tibetan Plateau region.Further research reveals that these magnetic anomalies exhibit distinct differences from the magnetic-seismic correlation mechanisms observed in other tectonic settings;here, they are governed primarily by the combined effects of compressional magnetism, thermal magnetism, and deep thermal stress. This study provides new evidence of geomagnetic anomalies on the Tibetan Plateau, interprets them physically, and demonstrates their potential for identifying seismic hazard zones on the Plateau.

文摘Clarifying the spatial and temporal variations in precipitation-use efficiency (PUE) is helpful for advancing our knowledge of carbon and water cycles in Tibetan grassland ecosystems. The results show that PUE of Tibetan grasslands is generally high in dry years and low in wet years.

文摘Strong sensitivity of satellite microwave remote sensing to the change of surface dielectric properties,as well as the insensitivity to air pollution and solar illumination effects, makes it very suitable for monitoring freeze-thaw conditions. The freeze-thaw cycle changes in the Qinghai-Xizang Plateau have an important impact on the ecological environment and infrastructure.Based on the Scanning Multi-channel Microwave Radiometer(SMMR)and other sensors of microwave satellite, the freeze-thaw cycle data of permafrost in the Qinghai-Xizang Plateau in the past 40 years from 1981 to 2020 was obtained. The changes of soil freeze-thaw conditions in different seasons of 2020 and in the same season of 1990,2000,2010 and 2020 were compared, and the annual variation trend of soil freeze-thaw area in the four years was analyzed.Further, the linear regression analysis was carried out on the duration of soil freezing/thawing/transition and the interannual variation trend under different area conditions from 1981 to 2020.The results show that the freeze-thaw changes in different years are similar. In winter,it is mainly frozen for about 110 days.Spring and autumn are transitional periods, lasting for 170 days.In summer,it is mainly thawed for about 80 days. From 1981 to 2020,the freezing period and the average freezing area of the Qinghai-Xizang Plateau decreased at a rate of 0.22 days and 1986 km^(2) per year, respectively, while the thawing period and the average thawing area increased at a rate of 0.07 days and 3187 km^(2) per year, respectively. The research results provide important theoretical support for the ecological environment and permafrost protection of the Qinghai-Xizang Plateau.

文摘Based on a monthly dataset of precipitation time series (1961-2010) from 12 me- teorological stations across the Three-River Headwater Region (THRHR) of Qinghai Province China, the spatio-temporal variation and abrupt change analysis of precipitation were exam- ined by using moving average, linear regression, spline interpolation, the Mann-Kendall test and so on. This research would be helpful for further under- standing the trends and periodicity of precipitation and for watershed-based water resource management in the THRHR.

文摘According to calculation results of ocean chlorophyll concentration based on SeaWiFS data by SeaBAM model and synchronous ship-measured data, this research set up an improved model for CaseⅠand CaseⅡwater bodies respectively. But the main influencing factors may be different in each local sea area.

文摘Based on abundant aftershock sequence data of the Wenchuan Ms8.0 earthquake on May 12, 2008, we studied the spatio-temporal variation process and segmentation rupture characteristic. At last we discuss the complex segmentation rupture mechanism of the Wenchuan earthquake.

文摘As a daily necessity and an important cash crop in China and many other countries, tea has received increasing attention. The result indicates importance to make appropriate policies to promote the development of tea industry in China.

文摘Halocarbons play a vital role in ozone depletion and global warming, and are regulated by the Montreal Protocol(MP)and its amendments.China has been identified as an important contributor to the halocarbon emissions, but the regional sources of halocarbons in China are not yet well comprehended. To investigate the characteristics, emissions, and source profiles, this study conducted a field campaign in Xiamen,a coastal city in southeastern China.Higher enhancements were found in the unregulated halocarbons(CH_(3)Cl,CH_(2)Cl_(2),CHCl_(3))than in the MP eliminated species(CCl_(4),CH_(3)Br)and theMP controlled species(HCFCs,HFCs).Many of the measured halocarbons varied seasonally and regionally, depending on the anthropogenic sources and atmospheric transport.Backward trajectory analysis showed that the air masses from inland were polluted over Shandong,Hebei, and northern Fujian in the cold season, while the air masses fromthe sea in the warm season were clean.Different air masses in two seasons were associated with the halocarbon patterns in the study area.Industrial activities, especially solvent usage, were the primary sources of halocarbons. The emission hot spots in Fujian Province were concentrated in Sanming,Fuzhou, and Xiamen, and the unregulated halocarbons made the largest contribution. This study provides an insight for a deep understanding of the characteristics and potential sources of halocarbons, and for strengthened management of halocarbons in China.
文摘In this paper, the spatio-temporal variation and propagation direction of coal fire were studied in the Jharia Coalfield(JCF),India during 2006–2015 through satellite-based night-time land surface temperature(LST)imaging. The LST was retrieved from Advanced Spaceborne Thermal Emission and Reflection Radiometer(ASTER)night-time thermal-infrared data by a robust split-window algorithm based on scene-specific regression coefficients,band-specific hybrid emissivity, and night-time atmospheric transmittance. The LST-profile-based coal fire detection algorithm was formulated through statistical analysis of the LST values along multiple transects across diverse coal fire locations in the JCF in order to compute date-specific threshold temperatures for separating thermally-anomalous and background pixels. This algorithm efficiently separates surface fire, subsurface fire, and thermally-anomalous transitional pixels.During the observation period,it was noticed that the coal fire area increased significantly, which resulted from new coal fire at many places owing to extensive opencast-mining operations. It was observed that the fire propagation occurred primarily along the dip direction of the coal seams. At places,lateral-propagation of limited spatial extent was also observed along the strike direction possibly due to spatial continuity of the coal seams along strike. Moreover, the opencast-mining activities carried out during 2009–2015 and the structurally weak planes facilitated the fire propagation.

文摘Southerly moisture surges over the central South China Sea(SCS)are characterized by the strengthening of lowlevel southerlies that transport moisture northward from the Pacific or Indian Oceans to South China. These surge events typically occur for days in the early-summer season(from April to June)and can lead to heavy rains in South China. This study categorizes surge events into three types of flow patterns and examines their multiscale variations and impacts on rainfall. The first type occurs mainly in April, with the southeasterlies enhanced by a deepening trough in South China and the western Pacific subtropical high established over the SCS.The second type of surge events mostly appears in June, featuring the prevailing southwesterlies of summer monsoon from the Indian Ocean during the active phases of intraseasonal oscillations. Most surge events exhibit semi-diurnal variations with morning and afternoon peaks of northward moisture fluxes.Specifically, the first type features a dominant afternoon peak, while the second type shows a dominant early-morning peak, which is induced by thermal contrast between the Indochina Peninsula and the SCS.In general, the surge events enhance moisture convergence and increase rainfall downstream in South China, but they show some regional differences. The second type strengthens moisture convergence and rainfall in coastal regions with a morning peak.In contrast, the first type enhances inland rainfall with a morning peak, while moisture divergence dominates coastal regions. The third type of surge events denotes transitional conditions between the first two types,in terms of atmospheric circulations, diurnal cycles, and rainfall patterns. These results highlight a diversity of regional moisture surges and related rainfall ranging from diurnal to sub-seasonal scales.
