Serving as the initiating explosive devices between the propellant tank and the engines,metal-based rupture diaphragms are widely used in ramjet igniters owing to the advantages provided by their simple structure, small size, and low cost. However, the reliability of rupture pressure directly affects the success of engine ignition and rocket launch, which is mainly influenced by factors like material, structure, and residual thickness of the surface notch of the diaphragm.Among those, the geometry of the notch is easy to define and control when compared to the mechanical parameters of the ruptured diaphragm. Thus,to make the diaphragm rupture(1A30 Al)within the required pressure range(0.4 MPa±3.5%)with highly sensitive and reliability,we draw inspiration from the arthropod’s force-sensitive slit organ which encompasses curved microgrooves to design a Ω-shaped notch for the rupture diaphragm.Finite element analysis is used to study the relationship between the burst pressure and geometric dimension of theΩ-shaped and bioinspired microgroove.Based on that,metal-based rupture diaphragms are fabricated by femtosecond laser processing technology, followed by rupture tests.Experiment results demonstrate that the practical rupture pressure of the diaphragm is highly consistent with the finite element analysis results, which verifies the effectiveness of the bionic design. 展开更多

Hepatocellular carcinoma presents with three distinct immune phenotypes, including immune-desert,immune-excluded,and immune-inflamed,indicating various treatment responses and prognostic outcomes. The clinical application of multi-omics parameters is still restricted by the expensive and less accessible assays, although they accurately reflect immune status.A comprehensive evaluation framework based on“easy-to-obtain”multi-model clinical parameters is urgently required, incorporating clinical features to establish baseline patient profiles and disease staging;routine blood tests assessing systemic metabolic and functional status;immune cell subsets quantifying subcluster dynamics;imaging features delineating tumor morphology, spatial configuration, and perilesional anatomical relationships;immunohistochemical markers positioning qualitative and quantitative detection of tumor antigens from the cellular and molecular level. This integrated phenomic approach aims to improve prognostic stratification and clinical decision-making in hepatocellular carcinoma management conveniently and practically. 展开更多

To study the influence of roll casting process parameters on temperature and thermal-stress fields for the AZ31 magnesium alloy sheets,three-dimensional geometric and 3D finite element models for roll casting were established based on the symmetry of roll casting by ANSYS software.Meshing method and smart-sizing algorithm were used to divide finite element mesh in ANSYS software.A series of researches on the temperature and stress distributions during solidification process with different process parameters were done by 3D finite element method. The temperatures of both the liquid-solid two-phase zone and liquid phase zone were elevated with increasing pouring temperature. With the heat transfer coefficient increasing, the two-phase region for liquid-solid becomes smaller. With the pouring temperature increasing and the increase of casting speed, the length of two-phase zone rises. The optimized of process parameters(casting speed 2 m/min,pouring temperature 640 ℃ and heat transfer coefficient 15 kW/(m2·℃) with the water pouring at roller exit was used to produce magnesium alloy AZ31 sheet, and equiaxed grains with the average grain size of 50 μm were achieved after roll casting. The simulation results give better understanding of the temperature variation in phase transformation zone and the formation mechanism of hot cracks in plates during roll casting and help to design the optimized process parameters of roll casting for Mg alloy. 展开更多

A new numerical technique named interval finite difference method is proposed for the steady-state temperature field prediction with uncertainties in both physical parameters and boundary conditions. Interval variables are used to quantitatively describe the uncertain parameters with limited information. Based on different Taylor and Neumann series, two kinds of parameter perturbation methods are presented to approximately yield the ranges of the uncertain temperature field. By comparing the results with traditional Monte Carlo simulation, a numerical example is given to demonstrate the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed method for solving steady-state heat conduction problem with uncertain-but-bounded parameters. 展开更多

A new numerical technique named as fuzzy finite difference method is proposed to solve the heat conduction problems with fuzzy uncertainties in both the phys- ical parameters and initial/boundary conditions. In virtue of the level-cut method, the difference discrete equations with fuzzy parameters are equivalently transformed into groups of interval equations. New stability analysis theory suited to fuzzy difference schemes is developed. Based on the parameter perturbation method, the interval ranges of the uncertain temperature field can be approximately predicted. Subsequently, fuzzy solutions to the original difference equations are obtained by the fuzzy resolution theorem. Two numerical examples are given to demonstrate the feasibility and efficiency of the presented method for solving both steady-state and transient heat conduction problems. 展开更多

The coupled heat and moisture transfer in a freezing process of wood particle material was mathematically modeled in the paper. The models were interactively solved by using the numerical method(the finite element method and the finite difference method). By matching the theoretical calculation to an experiment, the nonlinear problem was analyzed and the variable thermophysical parameters concerned was evaluated. The analysis procedure and the evaluation of the parameters were presented in detail. The result of the study showed that by using the method as described in the paper, it was possible to determine the variable (with respect to temperature, moisture content and freezing state) thermophysical parameters which were unknown or difficult to measure as long as the governing equations for a considered process were available. The method can significantly reduces the experiment efforts for determining thermophysical parameters which arc very complicated to measure. The determined variable of the effective heat conductivity of wood particle material was given in the paper. The error of the numerical calculation was also estimated by the comparison with a matched experiment. 展开更多

This paper deals with the finite-time stabilization of unified chaotic complex systems with known and unknown parameters. Based on the finite-time stability theory, nonlinear control laws are presented to achieve finite-time chaos control of the determined and uncertain unified chaotic complex systems, respectively. The two controllers are simple, and one of the uncertain unified chaotic complex systems is robust. For the design of a finite-time controller on uncertain unified chaotic complex systems, only some of the unknown parameters need to be bounded. Simulation results for the chaotic complex Lorenz, Lu¨ and Chen systems are presented to validate the design and analysis. 展开更多

In generator design field, waveform total harmonic distortion(THD)and telephone harmonic factor(THF)are parameters commonly used to measure the impact of generator no-load voltage harmonics on the power communication quality.Tubular hydrogenerators are considered the optimal generator for exploiting low-head,high-flow hydro resources, and they have seen increasingly widespread application in China's power systems recent years. However, owing to the compact and constrained internal space of such generators, their internal magnetic-field harmonics are pronounced. Therefore, accurate calculation of their THD and THF is crucial during the analysis and design stages to ensure the quality of power communication.Especially in the electromagnetic field finite element modeling analysis of such generators, the type and order of the finite element meshes may have a significant impact on the THD and THF calculation results, which warrants in-depth research. To address this, this study takes a real 34 MW large tubular hydrogenerator as an example, and establishes its electromagnetic field finite element model under no-load conditions. Two types of meshes, five mesh densities, and two mesh orders are analyzed to reveal the effect of electromagnetic field finite element mesh types and orders on the calculation results of THD and THF for such generators. 展开更多

Blanking is a major process and has a wide range of usage in manufacturing industry. The general concept of blanking seems a simple one but governing parameters are many and have a complex relationship which directly affect the quality of the produced parts (blanks) and also the energy efficiency of the process. The main problem is the lack of prediction capabilities of the effect of these parameters that lead to time, money and labor consuming trial and error procedures in experimental studies. Usage of FEM based programs to simulate blanking to obtain numerical results and observe the shearing mechanism is a cheap and a detailed way for industrial applications. In this study five different clearances (1%, 3%, 5%, 10% and 20%) and three different thicknesses (t = 2 mm, t = 3 mm and t = 4 mm) were used for simulation and experimental studies of the blanking process. Simulations were executed by using the FEM program, Deform 2-D. Investigations were made on the parameters related to crack progression like crack initiation and crack propagation angles, indentation angle, rollover angle and depth and also the related blanking energy values. The results of the present paper are in agreement with the results of experimental studies. 展开更多

During the thin strip coiling process, it is necessary to use a sleeve with a mandrel to prevent excessive deformation of the strip. Stress distribution in the sleeve and in the strip is an important factor that determines the quality of the coil. However, owing to the accumulation of high pressure, it is difficult to determine the stress distribution through experimentation. Thus, stress analysis of the strip coiling process was conducted. Finite element analysis was used to investigate the effects of the weight of the strip and the mandrel on the stress distribution and stress concentration near the starting point of the coil. The radial stress was predicted for a coil with a stacked thickness of 384 mm, which corresponds to a strip length of 1486 m, using the stress analysis model developed in a preceding research. A method was presented to reduce the weight and radial stress of a strip coil. It was found that the deformation of the sleeve can be reduced by decreasing the gap between the mandrel segments. The thickness of the sleeve can be reduced from 120 to 106 mm using the stress analysis results. Furthermore, coiling tension can be reduced by 44% compared to the existing value considering the interlayer slip of the strip coil. 展开更多

In order to investigate the effects of powder materials and processing parameters on thermal and stress field during laser powder deposition (LPD), a finite element model was developed with the help of ANSYS software. The finite element model was verified by the comparison between the experimental results and computed results. Then LPD processes with different powder materials and processing parameters were simulated by using the FE model. The results show that less difference of thermal conductivity and thermal expansion coefficient between powder material and substrate material produces lower residual stress; higher laser power, laser scanning speed and smaller laser beam diameter can lead higher peak temperature and higher residual stress. The research opens up a way to rational selection of the powder materials and processing parameters for ensured quality. 展开更多

Vertical Electrical Sounding, the Finite Element Technique (FET) and chemical analysis of soil samples were used to map the pollution plume around two oxidation sewage ponds in Ile-Ife, Southwestern Nigeria. The elemental concentrations of the soil samples at 5 m depth around the sewage ponds were obtained using partial extraction of exchangeable metals ions of (0.05 HCl + 0.025 N H2SO4) or 0.075 N acid mixture. The VES interpreted results delineated three to four geoelectric subsurface layers comprising topsoil, laterite, weathered layer and the fresh basement. The elemental concentration of Cu, Zn, Pb and Cr in the soil samples located at the periphery of the sewage ponds are much higher than those of the control sample point indicating pollution. The finite element generated isopach map of the overburden indicates easterly direction of groundwater flow and weathered layer isoresistivity map generated using the finite element technique identifies low resistivity zone characteristic of pollution zone in the eastern flank. The study concluded that the groundwater in the area around the sewage ponds may have been polluted. 展开更多

Artificial cementation is a method commonly used to enhance and improve soil properties. This paper investigates the effect of using different amounts of cement on soil strength parameters and soil bearing capacity, using the finite element method. Experimental tests are conducted on soil samples with different amounts of Portland cement. A 2-D numerical model is created and validated using the numerical modelling software, COMSOL Multiphysics 5.6 software. The study finds that the cohesion, and the angle of the internal friction of the soil samples increase significantly as a result of adding 1%, 2%, and 4% of Portland cement. The results demonstrate that the stresses and strain under the strip footing proposed decrease by 3.24% and 7.42%. Moreover, the maximum displacement also decreases by 1.47% and 2.97%, as a result of adding cements of 2% and 4%. The bearing capacity values obtained are therefore excellent, especially when using the 2% and 4% cement. The increase identified is due to the increased values of the bearing capacity factors. It is concluded that from an economic viewpoint, using 2% cement is the best option. 展开更多

Purpose–The brake pipe system was an essential braking component of the railway freight trains, but the existing E-type sealing rings had problems such as insufficient low-temperature resistance, poor heat stability and short service life.To address these issues,low-phenyl silicone rubber was prepared and tested, and the finite element analysis and experimental studies on the sealing performance of its sealing rings were carried out.Design/methodology/approach–The low-temperature resistance and thermal stability of the prepared lowphenyl silicone rubber were studied using low-temperature tensile testing, differential scanning calorimetry, dynamic thermomechanical analysis and thermogravimetric analysis. The sealing performance of the lowphenyl silicone rubber sealing ring was studied by using finite element analysis software abaqus and experiments.Findings–The prepared low-phenyl silicone rubber sealing ring possessed excellent low-temperature resistance and thermal stability.According to the finite element analysis results, the finish of the flange sealing surface and groove outer edge should be ensured, and extrusion damage should be avoided. The sealing rings were more susceptible to damage in high compression ratio and/or low-temperature environments. When the sealing effect was ensured,a small compression ratio should be selected, and rubbers with hardness and elasticity less affected by temperature should be selected. The prepared low-phenyl silicone rubber sealing ring had zero leakage at both room temperature(RT)and508C.Originality/value–The innovation of this study is that it provides valuable data and experience for the future development of the sealing rings used in the brake pipe flange joints of the railway freight cars in China. 展开更多

A conceptual model of intermittent joints is introduced to the cyclic shear test in the laboratory to explore the effects of loading parameters on its shear behavior under cyclic shear loading. The results show that the loading parameters(initial normal stress, normal stiffness, and shear velocity)determine propagation paths of the wing and secondary cracks in rock bridges during the initial shear cycle, creating different morphologies of macroscopic step-path rupture surfaces and asperities on them. The differences in stress state and rupture surface induce different cyclic shear responses. It shows that high initial normal stress accelerates asperity degradation, raises shear resistance, and promotes compression of intermittent joints. In addition, high normal stiffness provides higher normal stress and shear resistance during the initial cycles and inhibits the dilation and compression of intermittent joints.High shear velocity results in a higher shear resistance, greater dilation, and greater compression. Finally, shear strength is most sensitive to initial normal stress, followed by shear velocity and normal stiffness. Moreover, average dilation angle is most sensitive to initial normal stress, followed by normal stiffness and shear velocity.During the shear cycles, frictional coefficient is affected by asperity degradation, backfilling of rock debris, and frictional area, exhibiting a non-monotonic behavior. 展开更多
