The general concept of blanking seems a simple one but governing parameters are many and have a complex relationship which directly affect the quality of the produced parts (blanks) and also the energy efficiency of the process. The main problem is the lack of prediction capabilities of the effect of these parameters that lead to time, money and labor consuming trial and error procedures in experimental studies. Usage of FEM based programs to simulate blanking to obtain numerical results and observe the shearing mechanism is a cheap and a detailed way for industrial applications. In this study five different clearances (1%, 3%, 5%, 10% and 20%) and three different thicknesses (t = 2 mm, t = 3 mm and t = 4 mm) were used for simulation and experimental studies of the blanking process. Simulations were executed by using the FEM program, Deform 2-D. Investigations were made on the parameters related to crack progression like crack initiation and crack propagation angles, indentation angle, rollover angle and depth and also the related blanking energy values. The results of the present paper are in agreement with the results of experimental studies.展开更多

Stress distribution in the sleeve and in the strip is an important factor that determines the quality of the coil. However, owing to the accumulation of high pressure, it is difficult to determine the stress distribution through experimentation. Thus, stress analysis of the strip coiling process was conducted. Finite element analysis was used to investigate the effects of the weight of the strip and the mandrel on the stress distribution and stress concentration near the starting point of the coil. The radial stress was predicted for a coil with a stacked thickness of 384 mm, which corresponds to a strip length of 1486 m, using the stress analysis model developed in a preceding research. A method was presented to reduce the weight and radial stress of a strip coil. It was found that the deformation of the sleeve can be reduced by decreasing the gap between the mandrel segments. The thickness of the sleeve can be reduced from 120 to 106 mm using the stress analysis results. Furthermore, coiling tension can be reduced by 44% compared to the existing value considering the interlayer slip of the strip coil.展开更多

This paper investigates the effect of using different amounts of cement on soil strength parameters and soil bearing capacity, using the finite element method. Experimental tests are conducted on soil samples with different amounts of Portland cement. A 2-D numerical model is created and validated using the numerical modelling software, COMSOL Multiphysics 5.6 software. The study finds that the cohesion, and the angle of the internal friction of the soil samples increase significantly as a result of adding 1%, 2%, and 4% of Portland cement. The results demonstrate that the stresses and strain under the strip footing proposed decrease by 3.24% and 7.42%. Moreover, the maximum displacement also decreases by 1.47% and 2.97%, as a result of adding cements of 2% and 4%. The bearing capacity values obtained are therefore excellent, especially when using the 2% and 4% cement. The increase identified is due to the increased values of the bearing capacity factors. It is concluded that from an economic viewpoint, using 2% cement is the best option.展开更多

文摘Serving as the initiating explosive devices between the propellant tank and the engines,metal-based rupture diaphragms are widely used in ramjet igniters owing to the advantages provided by their simple structure, small size, and low cost. However, the reliability of rupture pressure directly affects the success of engine ignition and rocket launch, which is mainly influenced by factors like material, structure, and residual thickness of the surface notch of the diaphragm.Among those, the geometry of the notch is easy to define and control when compared to the mechanical parameters of the ruptured diaphragm. Thus,to make the diaphragm rupture(1A30 Al)within the required pressure range(0.4 MPa±3.5%)with highly sensitive and reliability,we draw inspiration from the arthropod’s force-sensitive slit organ which encompasses curved microgrooves to design a Ω-shaped notch for the rupture diaphragm.Finite element analysis is used to study the relationship between the burst pressure and geometric dimension of theΩ-shaped and bioinspired microgroove.Based on that,metal-based rupture diaphragms are fabricated by femtosecond laser processing technology, followed by rupture tests.Experiment results demonstrate that the practical rupture pressure of the diaphragm is highly consistent with the finite element analysis results, which verifies the effectiveness of the bionic design.

It is concluded that from an economic viewpoint, using 2% cement is the best option.

文摘The finite-time Mittag-Leffler synchronization is investigated for fractional-order delayed memristive neural networks(FDMNN)with parameters uncertainty and discontinuous activation functions. The relevant results are obtained under the framework of Filippov for such systems.Firstly, the novel feedback controller, which includes the discontinuous functions and time delays,is proposed to investigate such systems.Secondly, the conditions on finite-time Mittag-Leffler synchronization of FDMNN are established according to the properties of fractional-order calculus and inequality analysis technique. At the same time, the upper bound of the settling time for Mittag-Leffler synchronization is accurately estimated. In addition,by selecting the appropriate parameters of the designed controller and utilizing the comparison theorem for fractional-order systems, the global asymptotic synchronization is achieved as a corollary. Finally,a numerical example is given to indicate the correctness of the obtained conclusions.
文摘This paper work aims to present the effect of the soil stiffness (k), boundary conditions of piles and embedded length of piles (L) on a buckling force of a fully embedded pile and subject to an axial compression force only, based on the finite difference method. Based on this method, MATLAB sottware is used to calculate the buckling forces of piles. Effect of the soil stiffness (k), boundary conditions of piles and embedded length of piles (L) on a buckling force have been studied for reinforced concrete pile, whereas the modulus of horizontal subgrade reaction is adopted constantly with depth, increasing linearly with depth with zero value at the surface and increasing linearly with depth with nonzero value at the surface.

文摘Purpose–The brake pipe system was an essential braking component of the railway freight trains, but the existing E-type sealing rings had problems such as insufficient low-temperature resistance, poor heat stability and short service life.To address these issues,low-phenyl silicone rubber was prepared and tested, and the finite element analysis and experimental studies on the sealing performance of its sealing rings were carried out.Design/methodology/approach–The low-temperature resistance and thermal stability of the prepared lowphenyl silicone rubber were studied using low-temperature tensile testing, differential scanning calorimetry, dynamic thermomechanical analysis and thermogravimetric analysis. The sealing performance of the lowphenyl silicone rubber sealing ring was studied by using finite element analysis software abaqus and experiments.Findings–The prepared low-phenyl silicone rubber sealing ring possessed excellent low-temperature resistance and thermal stability.According to the finite element analysis results, the finish of the flange sealing surface and groove outer edge should be ensured, and extrusion damage should be avoided. The sealing rings were more susceptible to damage in high compression ratio and/or low-temperature environments. When the sealing effect was ensured,a small compression ratio should be selected, and rubbers with hardness and elasticity less affected by temperature should be selected. The prepared low-phenyl silicone rubber sealing ring had zero leakage at both room temperature(RT)and508C.Originality/value–The innovation of this study is that it provides valuable data and experience for the future development of the sealing rings used in the brake pipe flange joints of the railway freight cars in China.
文摘The resource parameter estimation using stochastic finite element, geostatistics etc. is a key point on uncertainty, risk analysis, optimization [1-5] etc. In this view, the paper presents some consideration on: 1) Stochastic finite element estimation. The concept of random element is simplified as a stochastic finite element (SFE) taking into account a parallelepiped element with eight nodes in which are given the probability density functions (pdf) on its point supports. In this context it is shown: a—the stochastic finite element is a linear interpolator, related to the distributions given at each nodes;b—the distribution pdf in whatever point x ∈ V;c—the estimation of the mean value of Z(x);2) Volume integrals calculus;3) SFE in geostatistics approaches;4) SFE in PDE solution. Finally, some conclusions are presented underlying the importance of SFE
文摘Total hip arthroplasty for adults with sequelae from childhood hip disorders poses significant challenges due to altered anatomy. The paper published by Oommen et al reviews the essential management strategies for these complex cases. This article explores the integration of finite element analysis(FEA)to enhance surgical precision and outcomes.FEA provides detailed biomechanical insights, aiding in preoperative planning, implant design, and surgical technique optimization.By simulating implant configurations and assessing bone quality,FEA helps in customizing implants and evaluating surgical techniques like subtrochanteric shortening osteotomy.Advanced imaging techniques, such as 3D printing, virtual reality, and augmented reality, further enhance total hip arthroplasty precision.Future research should focus on validating FEA models, developing patient-specific simulations, and promoting multidisciplinary collaboration.Integrating FEA and advanced technologies in total hip arthroplasty can improve functional outcomes, reduce complications, and enhance quality of life for patients with childhood hip disorder sequelae.

文摘A conceptual model of intermittent joints is introduced to the cyclic shear test in the laboratory to explore the effects of loading parameters on its shear behavior under cyclic shear loading. The results show that the loading parameters(initial normal stress, normal stiffness, and shear velocity)determine propagation paths of the wing and secondary cracks in rock bridges during the initial shear cycle, creating different morphologies of macroscopic step-path rupture surfaces and asperities on them. The differences in stress state and rupture surface induce different cyclic shear responses. It shows that high initial normal stress accelerates asperity degradation, raises shear resistance, and promotes compression of intermittent joints. In addition, high normal stiffness provides higher normal stress and shear resistance during the initial cycles and inhibits the dilation and compression of intermittent joints.High shear velocity results in a higher shear resistance, greater dilation, and greater compression. Finally, shear strength is most sensitive to initial normal stress, followed by shear velocity and normal stiffness. Moreover, average dilation angle is most sensitive to initial normal stress, followed by normal stiffness and shear velocity.During the shear cycles, frictional coefficient is affected by asperity degradation, backfilling of rock debris, and frictional area, exhibiting a non-monotonic behavior.
