AIM:To compare the results of non-mydriatic ultra-wide field imaging system,mydriatic slit-lamp lens(Volk+90 D) and mydriatic Goldmann three-mirror contact lens examinations in screening fundus lesions among patie...AIM:To compare the results of non-mydriatic ultra-wide field imaging system,mydriatic slit-lamp lens(Volk+90 D) and mydriatic Goldmann three-mirror contact lens examinations in screening fundus lesions among patients after cataract surgery.METHODS:Non-mydriatic images were obtained with an Optomap panoramic 200Tx(Optomap 200Tx) 3d after surgery and graded by a blinded ophthalmologist.A mydriatic slit-lamp lens examination was performed by another blinded retinal specialist on the same day.A third blinded retinal specialist examined patients two weeks after surgery using a Goldmann three-mirror contact lens.RESULTS:In total,160 patients(184 eyes) were examined,and 66,69,and 75 cases of retinal lesion(s)were identified using the Optomap 200 Tx,slit-lamp lens,and Goldmann three-mirror contact lens,respectively.In13 cases,fundus changes were sight-threatening.The results obtained by Optomap 200 Tx examination and by mydriatic slit-lamp lens examination have good consistency(P =0.375,Kappa =0.942).The mydriatic Goldmann three-mirror lens examination revealed more fundus lesions but are consistent with Optomap 200Tx(P=0.004,Kappa =0.897) and mydriatic slit-lamp lens examination(P=0.031,Kappa=0.932).CONCLUSION:Early post-operative fundus screening in cataract patients is extremely important and necessary to prevent further vision loss.Wide-field imaging is a feasible and convenient tool for fundus examination that can be used as a primary screening method among patients after cataract surgery.展开更多
Synapse-specific connectivity and dynamics determine microcircuit function but are challenging to explore with classic paired recordings due to their low throughput.We therefore implemented optomapping,a~100-fold fast...Synapse-specific connectivity and dynamics determine microcircuit function but are challenging to explore with classic paired recordings due to their low throughput.We therefore implemented optomapping,a~100-fold faster two-photon optogenetic method.In mouse primary visual cortex(V1),we optomapped 30,454 candidate inputs to reveal 1,790 excitatory inputs to pyramidal,basket,and Martinotti cells.Across these cell types,log-normal distribution of synaptic efficacies emerged as a principle.For pyramidal cells,optomapping reproduced the canonical circuit but unexpectedly uncovered that the excitation of basket cells concentrated to layer 5 and that of Martinotti cells dominated in layer 2/3.The excitation of basket cells was stronger and reached farther than the excitation of pyramidal cells,which may promote stability.Short-term plasticity surprisingly depended on cortical layer in addition to target cell.Finally,optomapping revealed an overrepresentation of shared inputs for interconnected layer-6 pyramidal cells.Thus,by resolving the throughput problem,optomapping uncovered hitherto unappreciated principles of V1 structure.展开更多
Background:Subacute sclerosing panencephalitis(SSPE)is a potentially fatal complication of measles.The authors report a case of recurrent myoclonic jerks under investigation,whose ophthalmic examination pointed to the...Background:Subacute sclerosing panencephalitis(SSPE)is a potentially fatal complication of measles.The authors report a case of recurrent myoclonic jerks under investigation,whose ophthalmic examination pointed to the diagnosis.Case presentation:A 12-year-old boy with recurrent episodes of myoclonic jerks was found to have optic disc pallor and an irregular macular scar with pigmentation in the left eye.The retinal finding proved to be a strong diagnostic clue for SSPE.There was a history of exanthematous fever in childhood.Antibodies against measles were detected in both the cerebrospinal fluid and serum.Retinitis with intraretinal and subretinal hemorrhage in the right eye was noted 6-weeks after the initial presentation.Conclusion:The authors describe the importance of ophthalmic evaluation in cases of recurrent myoclonic jerks.Optical coherence tomographic features and ultrawide field imaging characteristics of a case of SSPE are described.展开更多
