These radicals are often the primary driving force for the removal and breakdown of organic and inorganic contaminants. The quantification of such compounds is challenging due to the nature of the radical, however indirect methods which deploy a chemical probe to essentially capture the radical have been shown to be effective. As discussed in the work presented here, optimisation of such a method is fundamental to the efficiency of the method. A starting concentration range of coumarin from 50 mmol/L to 1000 mmol/L was used along with a catalyst loading of 0.01 g/L to 1 g/L Ti TiO2 to identify that 250 mmol/L and 0.5 g/L Ti TiO2 were the optimum conditions for production. Under these parameters a maximum production rate of 35.91 mmol/L(Rmax= 0.4 mmol/L OH* min-1) was achieved which yielded at photonic efficiency of 4.88 OH*moles photon-1 under UV irradiation. The data set presented also highlighted the limitations which are associated with the method which included; rapid exhaustion of the probe molecule and process inhibition through UV light saturation. Identifying both the optimum conditions and the potential limitations of the process were concluded to be key for the efficient deployment of the photocatalytic screening method.展开更多

We present two optimisations for the state-of-the-art weather analogue search algorithms: a parallelization and a heuristic search. The heuristic search (NDRank) limits of the final number of results and does initial searches on a lower resolution dataset to find candidates that, in the second phase, are locally validated. These optimisations were deployed in the Cloud and evaluated with ERA5 data from ECMWF. The proposed parallelization attained speedups close to optimal, and NDRank attains speedups higher than 4. NDRank can be applied to any parallel search, adding similar speedups. A substantial number of executions returned a set of analogues similar to the existing exhaustive search and most of the remaining results presented a numerical value difference lower than 0.1%. The results demonstrate that it is now possible to search for weather analogues in a faster way (even compared with parallel searches) with results with little to no error. Furthermore, NDRank can be applied to existing exhaustive searches, providing faster results with small reduction of the precision of the results.展开更多

At first, nonsingular fast terminal slidingmode control is developed, which can guarantee not only the stability but also finite-timeconvergence of the closed-loop system. As the parameters of the designed controllers playa vital role for control performance, an improved beetle antennae search algorithm is proposedto optimise them. By employing the historical information of the beetle’s antennaeand dynamically updating the step size as well as the range of its searching, the optimisingis accelerated considerably to ensure the efficiency of the quadrotor control. The superiorityof the proposed control scheme is demonstrated by simulation experiments, from whichone can see that both the error and the overshooting of the trajectory tracking are reducedeffectively.展开更多

文摘The integration of physics-based modelling and data-driven artificial intelligence(AI)has emerged as a transformative paradigm in computational mechanics. This perspective reviews the development and current status of AI-empowered frameworks, including data-driven methods,physics-informed neural networks, and neural operators. While these approaches have demonstrated significant promise, challenges remain in terms of robustness, generalisation, and computational efficiency. We delineate four promising research directions:(1)Modular neural architectures inspired by traditional computational mechanics,(2)physics informed neural operators for resolution-invariant operator learning,(3)intelligent frameworks for multiphysics and multiscale biomechanics problems,and(4)structural optimisation strategies based on physics constraints and reinforcement learning. These directions represent a shift toward foundational frameworks that combine the strengths of physics and data, opening new avenues for the modelling, simulation, and optimisation of complex physical systems.

文摘Support structure,a critical component in the design for additive manufacturing(DfAM),has been largely overlooked by additive manufacturing(AM)communities. The support structure stabilises overhanging sections, aids in heat dissipation, and reduces the risk of thermal warping, residual stress, and distortion, particularly in the fabrication of complex geometries that challenge traditional manufacturing methods.Despite the importance of support structures in AM,a systematic review covering all aspects of the design, optimisation, and removal of support structures remains lacking. This review provides an overview of various support structure types—contact and non-contact,as well as identical and dissimilar material configurations—and outlines optimisation methods, including geometric,topology,simulation-driven,data-driven,and multi-objective approaches.Additionally, the mechanisms of support removal, such as mechanical milling and chemical dissolution, and innovations like dissolvable supports and sensitised interfaces, are discussed.Future research directions are outlined, emphasising artificial intelligence(AI)-driven intelligent design,multi-material supports, sustainable support materials,support-free AM techniques, and innovative support removal methods, all of which are essential for advancing AM technology.Overall, this review aims to serve as a foundational reference for the design and optimisation of the support structure in AM.
文摘The highly efficient electrochemical treatment technology for dye-polluted wastewater is one of hot research topics in industrial wastewater treatment. This study reported a three-dimensional electrochemical treatment process integrating graphite intercalation compound(GIC)adsorption, direct anodic oxidation, and·OH oxidation for decolourising Reactive Black 5(RB5)from aqueous solutions. The electrochemical process was optimised using the novel progressive central composite design-response surface methodology(CCD-NPRSM),hybrid artificial neural network-extreme gradient boosting(hybrid ANN-XGBoost),and classification and regression trees(CART).CCD-NPRSM and hybrid ANN-XGBoost were employed to minimise errors in evaluating the electrochemical process involving three manipulated operational parameters:current density, electrolysis(treatment)time, and initial dye concentration. The optimised decolourisation efficiencies were 99.30%,96.63%,and 99.14%for CCD-NPRSM,hybrid ANN-XGBoost,and CART,respectively, compared to the 98.46%RB5 removal rate observed experimentally under optimum conditions:approximately 20 mA/cm^(2) of current density,20 min of electrolysis time, and 65 mg/L of RB5.The optimised mineralisation efficiencies ranged between 89%and 92%for different models based on total organic carbon(TOC).Experimental studies confirmed that the predictive efficiency of optimised models ranked in the descending order of hybrid ANN-XGBoost,CCD-NPRSM,and CART.Model validation using analysis of variance(ANOVA)revealed that hybrid ANN-XGBoost had a mean squared error(MSE)and a coefficient of determination(R^(2))of approximately 0.014 and 0.998,respectively,for the RB5 removal efficiency, outperforming CCD-NPRSM with MSE and R^(2) of 0.518 and 0.998,respectively.Overall,the hybrid ANN-XGBoost approach is the most feasible technique for assessing the electrochemical treatment efficiency in RB5 dye wastewater decolourisation.
文摘This paper presents an investigation of the tribological performance of AA2024–B_(4)C composites, with a specific focus on the influence of reinforcement and processing parameters. In this study three input parameters were varied:B_(4)C weight percentage, milling time, and normal load,to evaluate their effects on two output parameters:wear loss and the coefficient of friction.AA2024 alloy was used as the matrix alloy, while B_(4)C particles were used as reinforcement.Due to the high hardness and wear resistance of B_(4)C,the optimized composite shows strong potential for use in aerospace structural elements and automotive brake components. The optimisation of tribological behaviour was conducted using a Taguchi-Grey Relational Analysis(Taguchi-GRA)and the Technique for Order of Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution(TOPSIS).A total of 27 combinations of input parameters were analysed, varying the B_(4)C content(0,10,and 15 wt.%),milling time(0,15,and 25 h),and normal load(1,5,and 10 N).Wear loss and the coefficient of friction were numerically evaluated and selected as criteria for optimisation.Artificial Neural Networks(ANNs)were also applied for two outputs simultaneously.TOPSIS identified Alternative 1 as the optimal solution, confirming the results obtained using the Taguchi Grey method. The optimal condition obtained(10 wt.%B_(4)C,25 h milling time,10 N load)resulted in a minimum wear loss of 1.7 mg and a coefficient of friction of 0.176,confirming significant enhancement in tribological behaviour.Based on the results, both the B_(4)C content and the applied processing conditions have a significant impact on wear loss and frictional properties. This approach demonstrates high reliability and confidence, enabling the design of future composite materials with optimal properties for specific applications.

文摘Global meteorology data are now widely used in various areas, but one of its applications, weather analogues, still require exhaustive searches on the whole historical data. Furthermore, NDRank can be applied to existing exhaustive searches, providing faster results with small reduction of the precision of the results.
文摘This paper proposes a modified grey wolf optimiser-based adaptive super-twisting sliding mode control algorithm for the trajectory tracking and balancing of the rotary inverted pendulum system. The super-twisting sliding mode algorithm severely alleviates the chattering present in the classical sliding mode control. It provides robustness against model uncertainties and external disturbances with the knowledge of the upper bounds of the uncertainties and disturbances. The gains of the super-twisting sliding mode algorithm are selected through adaptive law.Parameters of the adaption law are tuned using a modified grey wolf optimisation algorithm,a meta-heuristic optimisation technique.Lyapunov stability analysis is carried out to analyse the overall control system stability. The performance of the proposed control algorithm is compared with two other sliding mode control strategies present in the literature, therein showing better performance of the proposed control scheme.

文摘This paper focuses on the trajectory tracking of quadrotors under bounded external disturbances. An optimised robust controller is proposed to drive the position and attitude ofa quadrotor converge to their references quickly. The superiorityof the proposed control scheme is demonstrated by simulation experiments, from whichone can see that both the error and the overshooting of the trajectory tracking are reducedeffectively.

文摘Proportioning is an important part of sintering,as it affects the cost of sintering and the quality of sintered ore.To address the problems posed by the complex raw material information and numerous constraints in the sintering process,a multi-objective optimisation model for sintering proportioning was established, which takes the proportioning cost and TFe as the optimisation objectives.Additionally,an improved multi-objective beluga whale optimisation(IMOBWO)algorithm was proposed to solve the nonlinear,multi-constrained multi-objective optimisation problems. The algorithm uses the con-strained non-dominance criterion to deal with the constraint problem in the model. Moreover, the algorithm employs an opposite learning strategy and a population guidance mechanism based on angular competition and two-population competition strategy to enhance convergence and population diversity. The actual proportioning of a steel plant indicates that the IMOBWO algorithm applied to the ore proportioning process has good convergence and obtains the uniformly distributed Pareto front.Meanwhile, compared with the actual proportioning scheme, the proportioning cost is reduced by 4.3361¥/t,and the TFe content in the mixture is increased by 0.0367%in the optimal compromise solution. Therefore, the proposed method effectively balances the cost and total iron, facilitating the comprehensive utilisation of sintered iron ore resources while ensuring quality assurance.
文摘We evaluate an adaptive optimisation methodology,Bayesian optimisation(BO),for designing a minimum weight explosive reactive armour(ERA)for protection against a surrogate medium calibre kinetic energy(KE)long rod projectile and surrogate shaped charge(SC)warhead. We perform the optimisation using a conventional BO methodology and compare it with a conventional trial-and-error approach from a human expert.A third approach, utilising a novel human-machine teaming framework for BO is also evaluated.Data for the optimisation is generated using numerical simulations that are demonstrated to provide reasonable qualitative agreement with reference experiments. The human-machine teaming methodology is shown to identify the optimum ERA design in the fewest number of evaluations, outperforming both the stand-alone human and stand-alone BO methodologies. From a design space of almost 1800 configurations the human-machine teaming approach identifies the minimum weight ERA design in 10 samples.

文摘Decomposition of a complex multi-objective optimisation problem(MOP)to multiple simple subMOPs,known as M2M for short,is an effective approach to multi-objective optimisation.However,M2M facilitates little communication/collaboration between subMOPs,which limits its use in complex optimisation scenarios. This paper extends the M2M framework to develop a unified algorithm for both multi-objective and manyobjective optimisation.Through bilevel decomposition,an MOP is divided into multiple subMOPs at upper level, each of which is further divided into a number of single-objective subproblems at lower level.Neighbouring subMOPs are allowed to share some subproblems so that the knowledge gained from solving one subMOP can be transferred to another, and eventually to all the subMOPs.The bilevel decomposition is readily combined with some new mating selection and population update strategies, leading to a high-performance algorithm that competes effectively against a number of state-of-the-arts studied in this paper for both multiand many-objective optimisation.Parameter analysis and component analysis have been also carried out to further justify the proposed algorithm.

文摘In order to play a positive role of decentralised wind power on-grid for voltage stability improvement and loss reduction of distribution network,a multi-objective two-stage decentralised wind power planning method is proposed in the paper, which takes into account the network loss correction for the extreme cold region.Firstly,an electro-thermal model is introduced to reflect the effect of temperature on conductor resistance and to correct the results of active network loss calculation;secondly,a two-stage multi-objective two-stage decentralised wind power siting and capacity allocation and reactive voltage optimisation control model is constructed to take account of the network loss correction, and the multi-objective multi-planning model is established in the first stage to consider the whole-life cycle investment cost of WTGs,the system operating cost and the voltage quality of power supply, and the multi-objective planning model is established in the second stage.planning model, and the second stage further develops the reactive voltage control strategy of WTGs on this basis, and obtains the distribution network loss reduction method based on WTG siting and capacity allocation and reactive power control strategy. Finally, the optimal configuration scheme is solved by the manta ray foraging optimisation(MRFO)algorithm, and the loss of each branch line and bus loss of the distribution network before and after the adoption of this loss reduction method is calculated by taking the IEEE33 distribution system as an example, which verifies the practicability and validity of the proposed method, and provides a reference introduction for decision-making for the distributed energy planning of the distribution network.
