Ultra-simplified design and quantitative analysis for the optical system of compact laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy

Optimization and simplification of optical systems represent a milestone in advancing the development of handheld and portable laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy(LIBS)systems towards smaller,more integrated forms.This research,for the first time,conducted a comprehensive optimization design and comparative analysis of three compact LIBS system optical paths:the paraxial optical path(OP),the off-axis OP,and the reflective OP.The differences in spectral intensity and stability among these paths were revealed,providing a scientific basis for selecting the optimal OP for LIBS systems.The research found that the paraxial OP excels in spectral performance and quantitative analysis accuracy,making it the preferred choice for compact LIBS systems.Specifically,the paraxial OP significantly enhances spectral intensity,achieving a 6 times improvement over the off-axis OP and an even more remarkable 150 times increase compared to the reflective OP,greatly enhancing detection sensitivity.Additionally,the relative standard deviation,spectral stability index,maintains a consistently low level,ranging from 10.9%to 13.4%,significantly outperforming the other two OPs and ensuring the reliability of analytical results.In the field of quantitative analysis,the paraxial OP also demonstrates higher accuracy,precision,and sensitivity,comparing to other OPs.The quantitative analysis models for Si,Cu,and Ti elements exhibit excellent fitting,providing users with high-quality quantitative analysis results that are of great significance for applications in material science,environmental monitoring,industrial inspection,and other fields.In summary,this study not only confirms the enormous application potential of the paraxial OP in compact LIBS systems but also provides valuable practical experience and theoretical support for the miniaturization and integration of LIBS systems.Looking ahead,with continuous technological advancements,the design of the paraxial OP is expected to further propel the widespread adoption of LIBS technology in portable,on-site detection applications. 展开更多

This article describes a novel configuration design for a re-imaging off-axis catadioptric space infrared optical system,and in order to satisfy the signal noise ratio requirements of the system,the stray light of the system is necessary to analyze and restrain. The optical system with a focal length of 1 200 mm,an entrance pupil diameter of 600 mm,an F-number of 2,a field of view of 3°× 0. 15°,a working wave band of 8 μm-10 μm,and the image quality of the optical system almost approach to diffraction limits in all field of view.Then the mathematical models of stray light are built,and the suppressive structure is established to eliminate the effect of stray light. Finally,TraceP ro is used to analyze and simulate stray light with and without the suppressive structure,and also get the results of the PST curves. The results indicate that appropriate optical system and suppressive structure can highly reduce the stray light of the space infrared optical system. 展开更多

Charge exchange (CEX) ions could inflict severe damages on the ion thruster optical system. This article is aimed at investigating the characteristics of the CEX ions and their influences upon the optical system by means of particle-incell(PIC) ion simulation and Monte Carlo collision(MCC) methods. The results from numerical simulation indicate that despite the fact that CEX ions appear in the entire beamlet region near the ion optical system, the ones that present themselves downstream of the accelerator grid have good reason for attracting more attention. As their trajectories are significantly affected by the local electric field, a great number of CEX ions are accelerated toward grids resulting in sputtering erosion. When the influences of the CEX ions are considered in the nulnerical simulation,there could hardly be observed augments in the screen grid current,but the accelerator grid current increases from zero to 1.4% of the beamlet current. It can be understood from the numerical simulation that the CEX ions formed in the region far downstream of the accelerator grid should be blamed for the erosion on the downstream surface of the accelerator grid. 展开更多

A symmetric plasmonie structure consisting of metal-insulator metal waveguide, groove studied, which supports double Fano resonances deriving from two different mechanisms and slot cavities is One of the Fano resonances originates from the interference between the resonances of groove and slot cavities, and the other comes from the interference between slot cavities. The spectral line shapes and the peaks of the double Fano resonances can be modulated by changing the length of the slot cavities and the height of the groove. Furthermore, the wavelength of the resonance peak has a linear relationship with the length of the slot cavities. The proposed plasmonic nanosensor possesses a sensitivity of 800nm/RIU and a figure of merit of 3150, which may have important applications in switches, sensors, and nonlinear devices. 展开更多

A new approach for detecting sudden hypotension in hemodialysis by using dual-channel optical system

Dialysis hypotension is one of the most prevalence symptoms of dialysis and occurs in 40%of treatment sessions.Detection and prediction of hypotension is important for the well-being of the patient and for optimizing treatment.The aim of this study was to construct optical system to monitor blood pressure(BP)continuously and without cuff in hemodialysis based on pulse transit time(PTT)method.To measure the BP changes,dual channel optical system were developed.In this study,individuals were classified into two groups of normal and hemodialysis.In both groups,BP and consequently PTT were earned three times in different positions.After the initial calibration,the regression equation was drawn for each subject.In normal group,each subject was placed in the supine position and BP was measured both by designed system and sphyg-momanometer cuff.During BP measurements,in addition to BP,blood pressure decline was also monitored by optical system.For hemodialysis group,the same measurement setup was adopted.In both groups,the error between cuff method and PTT was calculated.Correlation coefficients for BPcuf vs BP pTT were calculated and Bland-Altman plot was performed for the normal and hemodialysis groups.In this study 16 subjects participated.The results for normal group showed that maximum difference between cuff method and the present method was 14 mmHg and for.dialysis group was 16 mmHg.Bland-A ltman plot in normal group revealed limits of agreement from-13.98 to 13.18 mmHg.Considering hemodialysis group,limits of agreement were from-15.94 to 13.88 mmHg.The correlation coefficient was 0.74 for normal group and was 0.72 for hemodialysis group.The proposed system can monitor BP continuously and diagnose sudden hypotension.So it can be recommended as a useful method to indicate hypotension and can be used for dialysis unit. 展开更多

An orthonormal beam family of super Lorentz-Gauss (SLG) beam model is proposed to describe the higher-order mode beams with high divergence, which are generated by a high power diode laser. Here we consider the simplest case of the SLG beams, where there are four mutually orthogonal SLG beams, namely SLG00, SLG01, SLG10, and SLGll beams. The SLG00 beam is just the Lorentz-Gauss beam. Based on the Collins integral formula and the Hermite-Gaussian expansion of a Lorentz function, an analytical expression for the Wigner distribution function (WDF) of an SLG11 beam through a paraxial ABCD optical system is derived. The properties of the WDF of an SLG11 beam propagating in free space are demonstrated. The normalized WDFs of an SLG11 beam at the different spatial points are depicted in several observation planes. The influence of the beam parameter on the WDF of an SLGI 1 beam in free space is analyzed at different propagation distances. The second-order moments of the WDF of an SLG11 beam in free space are also examined. This research reveals the propagation properties of an SLGll beam from another perspective. The WDFs of SLG01 and SLG10 beams can be easily obtained by using the WDFs of Lorentz-Gauss beam and the SLG11 beam. 展开更多

The proposed modification goes to replace the optical material of the movable lens by another with less thermal dispersion. The choice of appropriate materials lead to a good focus appeared on the retina for a wide spectral range includes UV, visible, and near IR lighting. Then, the performance of the modified design is verified through some optical measures for imaging quality determinations. These optical measures are determined with the aid of Zemax software, which also used for testing performance of the modified fisheye optical system. The analysis mainly focuses on the energy distribution in the light spot on the focal surface. The results show that the modified design of the fisheye is acceptable. 展开更多

The design of optical instruments is an active subject due to improvement in lens techniques, fabrication technology, and data handling capacity. Much remains to do to expand its application to phytopathology, which would be in particular quite useful to improve crop growth monitoring in countries like Mali. An optical multimodal system for plant samples has been developed to improve the characterization of leaf disease symptoms, provide information on their effects, and avoid their spread. Potentially inexpensive components (laser, lens, turntables camera and sample, filter, lens, camera and computer) have been selected, assembled and aligned on an optical table into a multimodal system operating in transmission, reflection, diffusion and fluorescence. The illumination and observation angles can be adjusted to optimize viewing conditions in the four modes. This scientific contribution has been an initiation into the design and implementation of an optical instrument. Initial results are shown and will now be extended in cooperation with agronomic laboratories in African countries for tests on specific plant diseases in relation with prevailing climate conditions. 展开更多

Backgrounds This paper introduces a polarized catadioptric virtual reality optical system.With a focus on the issue of serious ghost image in the system,root causes are analyzed based on design principles and optical structure.Methods The distribution of stray light is simulated using Lighttools,and three major ghost paths are selected using the area of the diffuse spot,S d and the energy ratio of the stray light,K as evaluation means.A method to restrain the ghost image through optimization of the structure of the optical system by controlling the focal power of the ghost image path is proposed.Results/Conclusions The results show that the S_(d) for the ghost image path increases by 40%and K decreases by 40%after optimization.Ghost image is effectively suppressed,which provides the theoretical basis and technical support for ghost suppression in a virtual reality optical system. 展开更多

The properties of the propagation of MBG beam traveling through this misaligned ABCD optical system are discussed. A special case of misaligned circular thin lens is illustrated analytically and numerically. The shape of the MBG beam at the exit of the misaligned optical system is unchanged;however the center of the beam is shifted from the propagation axis in correlated manner with the design parameters of the optical system. 展开更多

The measurement and control of high temperature play very important roles in national defense,military,scientific experiments,industrial and agricultural production.Photoelectric pyrometer is one of the important radiation thermometers for non-contact temperature measurement.It has an important application in the field of high temperature measurement,and its performance directly affects the accuracy of temperature measurement.By improving the design of the detection optical system of the photoelectric pyrometer,the imaging performance of the photoelectric pyrometer can be improved effectively,and the temperature measurement accuracy can be improved.In this paper,the temperature measurement principle of photoelectric pyrometer,the wo rking principle of the detection optical system and the composition of the system are introduced.The optical components that affect the imaging of the optical system of the photoelectric pyrometer are analyzed.The optical pyrometer detection optical system is simulated by ZEMAX software,based on the analysis results,the Modulation Transfer Function(MTF)and the spot Diagram are used as the main evaluation criteria to optimize the design of the objective lens of the photoelectric pyrometer detection optical system.The imaging performance of the photoelectric pyrometer detection optical system and the accuracy of temperature measurement of the photoelectric pyrometer are improved by optimization design of the detection optical system. 展开更多

To establish a theoretical basis for providing a better design method of multielement optical systems, we have developed a third-order geometric theory of a plane-symmetric multielement optical system that consists of a planar light source, an arbitrary number of ellipsoidal gratings, and an image plane. Analytic formulas of spot diagrams are derived for the system by analytically following a ray-tracing formalism. With these formulas, coma, spherical aberration, and resultant aberration are discussed. To make the theory practical, we determine the aberration coefficients numerically, rather than analytically, with the aid of ray tracing that takes into account the angular distribution of rays originating from a given light source. A merit function is defined so as to represent closely the variance of the spots formed when an infinite number of rays are traced and to take into account the dimensions of the source and the last optical element. The theory is also applicable to mirror-grating or mirror systems. 展开更多

The image sharpening AO system is chosen as the correction scheme.Communication between MATLAB and Code V is established via ActiveX technique in computer simulation.The SPGD algorithm is operated at seven zoom positions to calculate the optimized surface shape of the deformable mirror.After comparison of performance of the corrected system with the baseline system,AO technology is proved to be a good way of correcting the dynamic residual aberration in conformal optical design. 展开更多

Appropriate correction is required because a conformal dome induces significant aberrations. This paper intends to explain that an effective solution to the easy-fabrication conic surface corrector compensates aberrations induced by a coaxial aspheric dome. A conformal optical system with an ellipsoid MgF2 conformal dome, which has a fineness ratio of 2.0, is designed as an example. The field of regard angle is -4-30 degrees with a +2 degree instantaneous field of view. The system's ultimate value of modulation transfer function is close to the diffraction limit, which indicates that the performance of the conic conformal optical system with a fixed conic corrector meets the imaging requirements. 展开更多

The ion thruster is an engine with high specific impulse for satellites and spacecrafts,which uses electric energy to boost the spacecraft.The ion optical system,also known as gate assemblies which consist of acceleration and screen grids,is the key component of the ion thruster.In this paper,the static mechanical properties of the C/C composite grids are evaluated based on the structural design.Representative volume element (RVE) is adopted to simplify the braded composite structure as a continuum material.The dynamical behavior of the 100 mm ion thruster optics in the launch environment (1000g shock-load) is numerically modeled and simulated with the half-sine pulse method.The impact response of the C/C and molybdenum gate assemblies on the stress distribution and deformation is investigated.The simulated results indicate that the magnitudes of the normal displacement of the composite grids subject to the uniformly distributed load are on the same level as molybdenum grids although the normal stiffness of the composite grids is much smaller.When subject to impact loading,the stress distribution in the C/C composite grids is similar to molybdenum grids while the stress magnitude is much smaller.This finding shows that the C/C gate assemblies outperform molybdenum grids and meet the requirement of long lifetime service in space travel. 展开更多

The propagation properties of the FOGBs through general optical systems characterized by given ABCD matrix are studied on the basis of the generalized Huygens-Fresnel diffraction integral, which permits to show the behavior of this laser beams family and its properties de-pending of the laser parameters. The fundamental measurement of space gravitational wave detection is to monitor the relative motion between pairs of freely falling test masses using heterodyne laser interferometry to a precision of 10 pm. The masses under test are millions of kilometers apart. The inter-spacecraft laser interferometry telescope deliver laser efficiently from one spacecraft to another. It is an important component of the gravitational wave detection observatory. It needs to meet the requirements of large compression ratio, high image quality and extraordinary stray light suppression ability. Based on the primary aberration theory, the method of the large compression ratio off-axis four-mirror optical system design is explored. After optimization, the system has an entrance pupil of 200 mm, compression ratio of 40 times, scientific field of view (FOV) of ±8 μrad. To facilitate suppressing the stray light and delivering the laser beam to the back-end scientific interferometers, the intermediate images and the real exit pupils are spatially available. Over the full FOV, the maximum root mean square (RMS) wavefront error is less than 0.007λ, PV value is less than 0.03λ (λ = 1064 nm). The image quality is approached to the diffraction-limit. The TTL noise caused by the wavefront error of the telescope is analyzed. The TTL noise in the image space of 300 μrad range is less than 1 × 10-10 m whose slope is lower than 0.6 μm/rad, which is under the noise budget of the laser interferometer space antenna (LISA), satisfying the requirements of space gravitational wave detection. 展开更多
