The process of a γ-irradiation experiment of fibre optical gyroscope (FOG) control circuit was described, in which it is demonstrated that the FOG control circuit, except for D/A converter, could endure the dose of 10krad with the protection of cabin material. The distortion and drift in D/A converter due to radiation, which affect the performance of FOG seriously, was indicated based on the elemental analysis. Finally, a compensation network based on adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system is proposed and its function is verified by simulation. 展开更多

By combining a silicon-based lithium niobate modulator and a silicon-based Si3N4resonator with silicon-based photonics technology,a highly systematic design of a hybrid integrated optical gyroscope with enhanced reciprocity sensitivity and a dual micro-ring structure is proposed for the first time in this paper.The relationship between the device's structural parameters and optical performance is also analyzed by constructing a complete simulation link,which provides a theoretical design reference to improve the system's sensitivity.When the wavelength is 1550 nm,the conversion frequency of the dual-ring optical path is 50 MHz,the coupling coefficient is 0.2,and the radius R is 1000μm,the quality factor of the silicon-based Si_(3)N_(4)resonator is 2.58×10^(5),which is 1.58 times that of the silicon-on-insulator resonator.Moreover,the effective number of times the light travels around the ring before leaving the micro-ring is 5.93,which is 1.62 times that of the silicon-on-insulator resonator.The work fits the gyro dynamic output diagram,and solves the problem of low sensitivity at low speed by setting the phase offset.This results provide a basis for the further optimization of design and chip processing of the integrated optical gyroscope. 展开更多

Parity–time(PT) and quasi-anti-parity–time(quasi-APT) symmetric optical gyroscopes have been proposed recently which enhance Sagnac frequency splitting. However, the operation of gyroscopes at the exceptional point(EP) is challenging due to strict fabrication requirements and experimental uncertainties. We propose a new quasi-APT-symmetric micro-optical gyroscope which can be operated at the EP by easily shifting the Kerr nonlinearity. A single resonator is used as the core sensitive component of the quasi-APT-symmetric optical gyroscope to reduce the size, overcome the strict structural requirements and detect small rotation rates. Moreover, the proposed scheme also has an easy readout method for the frequency splitting. As a result, the device achieves a frequency splitting 10~5 times higher than that of a classical resonant optical gyroscope with the Earth's rotation. This proposal paves the way for a new and valuable method for the engineering of micro-optical gyroscopes. 展开更多

Gyroscopes are crucial components of inertial navigation systems,with ongoing development emphasizing miniaturization and enhanced accuracy.The recent advances in chip-scale optical gyroscopes utilizing integrated optics have attracted considerable attention,demonstrating significant advantages in achieving tactical-grade accuracy.In this paper,a new,to our knowledge,integrated optical gyroscope scheme based on the multi-mode co-detection technology is proposed,which takes the high-Q microcavity as its core sensitive element and uses the multi-mode characteristics of the microcavity to achieve the measurement of rotational angular velocity.This detection scheme breaks the tradition of optical gyroscopes based on a single mode within the sensitive ring to detect the angular rotation rate,which not only greatly simplifies the optical and electrical system of the optical gyroscope,but also has a higher detection accuracy.The gyroscope based on this detection scheme has successfully detected the Earth's rotation on a 9.2 mm diameter microcavity with a bias instability as low as 1 deg/h,which is the best performance among the chip-scale integrated optical gyroscopes known to us. 展开更多

The effects of color centers' absorption on fibers and interferometric fiber optical gyroscopes(IFOGs) are studied in the paper. The irradiation induced attenuation(RIA) spectra of three types of polarization-maintaining fibers(PMFs), i.e.,P-doped, Ge-doped, and pure silica, irradiated at 100 Gy and 1000 Gy are measured in a wavelength range from 1100 nm to1600 nm and decomposed according to the Gaussian model. The relationship of the color centers absorption intensity with radiation dose is investigated based on a power model. Furthermore, the effects of all color centers' absorption on RIA and mean wavelength shifts(MWS) at 1300 nm and 1550 nm are discussed respectively. Finally, the random walk coefficient(RWC) degradation induced from RIA and the scale factor error induced by MWS of the IFOG are simulated and tested at a wavelength of 1300 nm. This research will contribute to the applications of the fibers in radiation environments. 展开更多

In order to analyze the effect of wavelength-dependent radiation-induced attenuation (RIA) on the mean trans- mission wavelength in optical fiber and the scale factor of interferometric fiber optic gyroscopes (IFOGs), three types of polarization-maintaining (PM) fibers are tested by using a 60Co γ-radiation source. The observed different mean wave- length shift (MWS) behaviors for different fibers are interpreted by color-center theory involving dose rate-dependent absorption bands in ultraviolet and visible ranges and total dose-dependent near-infrared absorption bands. To evaluate the mean wavelength variation in a fiber coil and the induced scale factor change for space-borne IFOGs under low radiation doses in a space environment, the influence of dose rate on the mean wavelength is investigated by testing four germanium (Ge) doped fibers and two germanium-phosphorus (Ge-P) codoped fibers irradiated at different dose rates. Experimental results indicate that the Ge-doped fibers show the least mean wavelength shift during irradiation and their mean wavelength of optical signal transmission in fibers will shift to a shorter wavelength in a low-dose-rate radiation environment. Finally, the change in the scale factor of IFOG resulting from the mean wavelength shift is estimated and tested, and it is found that the significant radiation-induced scale factor variation must be considered during the design of space-borne IFOGs. 展开更多

As the core component of inertial navigation systems, fiber optic gyroscope (FOG), with technical advantages such as low power consumption, long lifespan, fast startup speed, and flexible structural design, are widely used in aerospace, unmanned driving, and other fields. However, due to the temper-ature sensitivity of optical devices, the influence of environmen-tal temperature causes errors in FOG, thereby greatly limiting their output accuracy. This work researches on machine-learn-ing based temperature error compensation techniques for FOG. Specifically, it focuses on compensating for the bias errors gen-erated in the fiber ring due to the Shupe effect. This work pro-poses a composite model based on k-means clustering, sup-port vector regression, and particle swarm optimization algo-rithms. And it significantly reduced redundancy within the sam-ples by adopting the interval sequence sample. Moreover, met-rics such as root mean square error (RMSE), mean absolute error (MAE), bias stability, and Allan variance, are selected to evaluate the model’s performance and compensation effective-ness. This work effectively enhances the consistency between data and models across different temperature ranges and tem-perature gradients, improving the bias stability of the FOG from 0.022 °/h to 0.006 °/h. Compared to the existing methods utiliz-ing a single machine learning model, the proposed method increases the bias stability of the compensated FOG from 57.11% to 71.98%, and enhances the suppression of rate ramp noise coefficient from 2.29% to 14.83%. This work improves the accuracy of FOG after compensation, providing theoretical guid-ance and technical references for sensors error compensation work in other fields. 展开更多

Vibration-induced bias deviation,which is generated by intensity fluctuations and additional phase differences,is one of the vital errors for fiber optic gyroscopes(FOGs)operating in vibration environment and has severely restricted the applications of high-precision FOGs.The conventional methods for suppressing vibration-induced errors mostly concentrate on reinforcing the mechanical structure and optical path as well as the compensation under some specific operation parameters,which have very limited effects for high-precision FOGs maintaining performances under vibration.In this work,a technique of suppressing the vibration-induced bias deviation through removing the part related to the varying gain from the rotation-rate output is put forward.Particularly,the loop gain is extracted out by adding a gain-monitoring wave.By demodulating the loop gain and the rotation rate simultaneously under distinct frequencies and investigating their quantitative relationship,the vibrationinduced bias error is compensated without limiting the operating parameters or environments,like the applied modulation depth.The experimental results show that the proposed method has achieved the reduction of bias error from about 0.149°/h to0.014°/h during the random vibration with frequencies from20 Hz to 2000 Hz.This technique provides a feasible route for enhancing the performances of high-precision FOGs heading towards high environmental adaptability. 展开更多

Non-Hermitian systems can exhibit unconventional spectral singularities called exceptional points(EPs).Various EP sensors have been fabricated in recent years,showing strong spectral responses to external signals.Here we propose how to achieve a nonlinear anti-parity-time(PT)gyroscope by spinning an optical resonator.We show that,in the absence of any nonlinearity,the sensitivity or optical mode splitting of the linear device can be magnified up to 3 orders compared to that of the conventional device without EPs.Remarkably,the PT symmetry can be broken when including the Kerr nonlinearity of the materials and,as a result,the detection threshold can be significantly lowered,i.e.,much weaker rotations which are well beyond the ability of a linear gyroscope can now be detected with the nonlinear device.Our work shows the powerful ability of PT gyroscopes in practice to achieve ultrasensitive rotation measurement. 展开更多

Optical fiber coil winding model is used to guide proper and high precision coil winding for fiber optic gyroscope (FOG) application. Based on the large-deformation theory of elasticity, stress analysis of optical fiber free end has been made and balance equation of infinitesimal fiber is deduced, then deformation equation is derived by substituting terminal conditions. On condition that only axial tensile force exists, approximate curve equation has been built in small angle deformation scope. The comparison of tangent point longitudinal coordinate result between theory and approximation gives constant of integration, and expression with tangent point as origin of coordinate is readjusted. Analyzing the winding parameters of an example, it is clear that the horizontal distance from the highest point of wheel to fiber tangent point has millimeter order of magnitude and significant difference with fiber tension variation, and maintains invariant when wheel radius changes. The height of tension and accurate position of tangent point are defined for proper fiber guide. For application to fiber optic gyroscope, spiral-disc winding method and nonideal deformation of straddle section are analyzed, and then spiral-disc quadrupole pattern winding method has been introduced and realized by winding system. Stochastic noises of fiber optic gyroscope (FOG) mainly contain white noise and fractal noise whose long-term dependent component causes FOG a rather slow drift. In order to eliminate this component, a two-step filtering methodology is proposed. Firstly, fractional differencing (FD) method is introduced to trans-form fractal noise into fractional white noise based on the estima-tion of Hurst exponent for long-term dependent fractal process, which together with the existing white noise make up of a gener-alized white noise. Further, an improved denoising algorithm of wavelet maxima is developed to suppress the generalized white noise. Experimental results show that the basic noise terms of FOG greatly decrease, and especially the slow drift is restrained effectively. The proposed methodology provides a promising ap-proach for filtering long-term dependent fractal noise. 展开更多

For a cell containing a mixture of ^(133)Cs at saturated pressure, we investigate the optimal quenching gas(N_2) pressure and the corresponding pump laser intensity to achieve 30% ^(133)Cs polarization at the center of the cell when the static magnetic field B0 is 5 μT with different ^(129)Xe/^(131)Xe pressure. The effective field produced by spin-exchange polarized ^(129)Xe or ^(131)Xe sensed by ^(133)Cs can also be discussed in different^(129)Xe/^(131)Xe pressure conditions. Furthermore,the relationship between the detected signal and the probe laser frequency is researched. We obtain the optimum probe laser detuning from the D2(6~2S_(1/2)→ 6~2P_(3/2)) resonance with different ^(129)Xe/^(131)Xe pressure owing to the pressure broadening. 展开更多

The full vector finite element method was used to investigate the distribution and the effective area of modal field, the nonlinear properties, the effective indices of two orthogonal polarization modes and the birefringence of the new PM-PCF effectively. It is found that the birefringence of the new polarization maintaining photonic crystal fibre can easily achieve the order of 10-4, and it can obtain higher birefringence, larger effectively mode-field area and lower nonlinearity than traditional hexagonal polarization maintaining photonic crystal fibre with the same hole pitch, same hole diameter, and same ring number. It is important for sensing and communication applications, especially has potential application for fibre optical gyroscope. 展开更多

An effective de-noising method for fiber optic gyroscopes(FOGs)is proposed.This method is based on second-generation Daubechies D4(DB4)wavelet transform(WT)and level-dependent threshold estimator called Stein's unbiased risk estimator(SURE).The whole approach consists of three critical parts:wavelet decomposition module,parameters estimation module and SURE de-noising module.First,DB4 wavelet is selected as lifting base of the second-generation wavelet in the decomposition module.Second,in the parameters estimation module,maximum likelihood estimation(MLE)is used for stochastic noise parameters estimation.Third,combined with soft threshold de-noising technique,the SURE de-noising module is designed.For comparison,both the traditional universal threshold wavelet and the second-generation Harr wavelet method are also investigated.The experiment results show that the computation cost is 40%less than that of the traditional wavelet method.The standard deviation of de-noised FOG signal is 0.012 and the three noise terms such as angle random walk,bias instability and quantization noise are reduced to 0.0072°/√h,0.0041°/h,and 0.0081°,respectively. 展开更多

Allan variance(AV)stochastic process identification method for inertial sensors has successfully combined the wavelet transform denoising scheme.However,the latter usually employs a traditional hard threshold or soft threshold that presents some mathematical problems.An adaptive dual threshold for discrete wavelet transform(DWT)denoising function overcomes the disadvantages of traditional approaches.Assume that two thresholds for noise and signal and special fuzzy evaluation function for the signal with range between the two thresholds assure continuity and overcome previous difficulties.On the basis of AV,an application for strap-down inertial navigation system(SINS)stochastic model extraction assures more efficient tuning of the augmented 21-state improved exact modeling Kalman filter(IEMKF)states.The experimental results show that the proposed algorithm is superior in denoising performance.Furthermore,the improved filter estimation of navigation solution is better than that of conventional Kalman filter(CKF). 展开更多
