An optical fiber sensor presented is capable of monitoring the presence of oxygen partial pressure (pO2) and pH in the real-time. The sensor is based on fluorescence sensing of polymer immobilized in the oxygen/pH-sensitive membranes and covalently attached to the optical fiber probe. The design of this sensor uses LED as light source, which is an excitation light source, inducing specific wavelengths of fluorescence on the oxygen/pH-sensitive membrane. The intensity and lifetime of fluorescence are related to the pO2 and pH. So the pO2 and pH can be measured by the relationship between the pO2/pH values and the intensity and lifetime of fluorescence. The signal conditioning system based on DSP and STM32 was used to store and process data, and display test values. The response of the sensor for pO2 and pH monitoring with nitrogen (N2) as a balancing gas in the laboratory was performed. Finally, the oxygen/pH sensing scheme presented in this work is intended for using in biological, medical and environmental applications.展开更多

文摘Soft polymer optical fiber(SPOF)has shown great potential in optical-based wearable and implantable biosensors due to its excellent mechanical properties and optical guiding characteristics. However, the multimodality characteristics of SPOF limit their integration with traditional fiber optic sensors. This article introduces for the first time a flexible fiber optic vibration sensor based on laser interference technology, which can be applied to vibration measurement under high stretch conditions. This sensor utilizes elastic optical fibers made of polydimethylsiloxane(PDMS)as sensing elements, combined with phase generating carrier technology,to achieve vibration measurement at 50−260 Hz within the stretch range of 0−42%.

文摘With the increasing demand for batteries, the real-time in situ monitoring of the physical/chemical state within the“black box”is critical to improving battery performance.Consequently, the development of a cost-effective and in situ battery monitoring system that does not interfere with the normal operation of the battery is imminent.Traditional monitoring techniques are constrained by size, reliability, and scalability.Optical fiber sensors offer a distinctive advantage in enabling highly sensitive, multiparameter in situ measurements in the harsh electrochemical environment of batteries.By decoding these characteristic parameters,it helps to establish the evolution mechanism of the battery’s safety state.Additionally, the integration of advanced lab-on-fiber technology with battery monitoring systems has attracted considerable attention. This review summarizes the recent advances in optical fiber sensing technology in the fields of battery temperature and mechanical stress/strain and provides an outlook on the future challenges and development of smart batteries.
文摘A temperature and acoustic impedance simultaneous sensor based on forward stimulated Brillouin scattering(FSBS)in highly nonlinear fiber(HNLF)with high sensitivity and high accuracy is proposed and demonstrated in this paper.High-order acoustic modes(HOAMs)are used to achieve individual or simultaneous measurement of the two parameters.Transverse acoustic waves(TAWs)involved in the FSBS process can efficiently sense the mechanical or environmental changes outside the fiber cladding, which will be reflected in a linear shift of the acoustic resonance frequency.By analyzing the frequencies of specific scattering peaks, the temperature and acoustic impedance outside the fiber cladding can be obtained simultaneously. The highest measured temperature and acoustic impedance sensitivities are 184.93 k Hz/℃and444.56 k Hz/MRayl,and the measurement accuracies are 0.09℃and 0.009 MRayl, respectively, which are both at desirable levels. We believe this work can provide potential application solutions for sensing fields involving temperature or acoustic impedance measurements.

文摘We proposed a fiber optic high temperature sensor based on the Mach-Zehnder interference(MZI)structure, which is composed of two lengths of multi-mode fibers(MMFs),a length of few-mode fiber(FMF)and two sections of single-mode fibers(SMFs).Firstly, the two sections of MMFs were spliced with two sections of SMFs.Then, the MMFs were fused to two ends of FMF to form a symmetrically structured fiber-optic MZI structure. In this structure, the MMF served as the optical mode field coupling element, and the cladding and core of the FMF are the interference arm and the reference arm of the MZI structure, respectively. We investigated the sensor's response characteristics of the temperature and strain. The experimental results indicate that the sensor is sensitive to temperature variation, and the temperature response sensitivity is up to 61.4 pm/℃ in the range of 40-250℃,while the sensor has weak strain sensitivity, its strain sensitivity is only-0.72 pm/μe in the strain range of 0-1400μe.Moreover,the sensor has good stability and repeatability. In brief, the proposed fiber optic high temperature sensor has good properties, such as high sensitivity, compact structure, good stability and repeatability, which can be used for monitoring the temperature of submerged oil electric pump units under oil wells.

文摘In view of the problem that the sensing characteristics of the multi-mode interferometric fiber sensors cannot be accurately analyzed,an analysis method based on the fast Fourier transform(FFT)and inverse fast Fourier transform(IFFT)is proposed and demonstrated theoretically and experimentally. The suitabilities of the rectangular window function with the narrow main lobe(high spectrum resolution)and low side lobe(high main mode energy leakage)and the Hanning window function with the wide main lobe(low spectrum resolution)and high side lobe(high energy concentration)in this kind of sensor analysis are discussed, respectively. This method can not only realize the sensing performance analysis of the various modes, but also overcome the inconsistency of the different interference wavelength(dip)sensing characteristics in the conventional analysis methods. At the same time, this method is also beneficial to solve the repetitive problem of such sensors.

文摘Recently, many programs have been developed for simulation or analysis of the different parameters of light propagation in optical fibers, either for sensing or for communication purposes. In this paper, it is shown the COMSOL Multiphysics as a fairly robust and simple program, due to the existence of a graphical environment, to perform simulations with good accuracy. Results are compared with other simulation analysis, focusing on the surface plasmon resonance (SPR) phenomena for refractive index sensing in a D-type optical fiber, where the characteristics of the material layers, in terms of the type and thickness, and the residual fiber cladding thickness are optimized.
文摘In this paper, we propose a Fresnel reflection-based optical fiber sensor system for remote refractive index measurement using the optical time domain reflectometry technique as an interrogation method. The surrounding refractive index from a long distance away can be measured easily by using this sensor system, which operates based on testing the Fresnel reflection intensity from the fiber-sample interface. This system is a simple configuration, which is easy to handle. Experimental results showed that the range of this measurement could reach about 100.8km, and the refractive index sensitivities were from 38.71 dB/RIU to 304.89 dB/RIU in the refractive index (RI) range from 1.3486 to 1.4525.

文摘The distributed acoustic sensor(DAS)uses a single optical cable as the sensing unit, which can capture the acoustic and vibration signals along the optical cable in real-time.So it is suitable for monitoring downhole production activities in the process of oil and gas development. The authors applied the DAS system in a gas production well in the South China Sea for in situ monitoring of the whole wellbore for the first time and obtained the distributed acoustic signals along the whole wellbore. These signals can clearly distinguish the vertical section, curve section, and horizontal production section. The collected acoustic signal with the frequency of approximately 50 Hz caused by the electric submersible pump exhibit a signal-to-noise ratio higher than 27 dB.By analyzing the acoustic signals in the production section,it can be located the layers with high gas production rates.Once an accurate physical model is built in the future, the gas production profile will be obtained. In addition, the DAS system can track the trajectory of downhole tools in the wellbore to guide the operation.Through the velocity analysis of the typical signals, the type of fluids in the wellbore can be distinguished. The successful application of the system provides a promising whole wellbore acoustic monitoring tool for the production of marine gas hydrate, with a good application prospect.
