We study single photon scattering in a one-dimensional coupled resonator waveguide, which is dressed by a small and a giant artificial atom simultaneously. Here,we have set the small atom to be a neighbor to one leg of the giant atom, and the giant atom couples to the waveguide via two distant sites. When the small and giant atoms are both resonant with the bare resonator in the waveguide,we observe the perfect reflection of the resonant incident photon. On the other hand, when the small atom is detuned from the giant atom, the single photon reflection is characterized by a wide window and Fano line shape. We hope our work will pave the way for the potential application of small and giant atom hybrid systems in the study of photonic control in the lowdimensional waveguide structure. 展开更多

A symmetrical one-dimensional(1D)photonic crystal structure with a Dirac-emimetal-defected layer is proposed. The material properties of the Dirac semimetal are governed by three key parameters:Fermi level,Fermi velocity, and degeneracy factor.Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed structure generates multiple photonic bandgaps within the THz frequency range. In the low-THz region, pronounced resonant transmission peaks emerge, enabling near-perfect filtering performance. The positions of these defect modes can be dynamically tuned by adjusting the Fermi level and degeneracy factor. In mid-and high-THz frequency bands, the Dirac semimetal begins to exhibit metallic behavior, leading to attenuation of the transmission peaks and the appearance of absorption. The elevation of the Fermi level delays the critical threshold for the transition from the dielectric state to the metallic state, while an increase in Fermi velocity suppresses metallic behavior. Therefore, enhancing both the Fermi level and Fermi velocity contributes to strengthening the defect peak intensity.Conversely, increasing the degeneracy factor strengthens the metallic characteristics, thereby disrupting the high-frequency photonic bandgap.Notably, the defect layer thickness and incident angle exert significant influence on the transmission behavior:a larger incident angle causes the defect peak to shift toward higher frequencies and reduces its intensity, whereas a thicker defect layer shifts the defect peak toward lower frequencies. The modulation effects of both parameters become more pronounced as frequency increases.Compared with conventional photonic crystals, our work can provide a tunable structure over transmission properties, offering novel strategies for designing tunable filters and optical sensors. 展开更多

Small angle x-ray scattering(SAXS)is an advanced technique for characterizing the particle size distribution(PSD)of nanoparticles. However, the ill-posed nature of inverse problems in SAXS data analysis often reduces the accuracy of conventional methods. This article proposes a user-friendly software for PSD analysis,GranuSAS,which employs an algorithm that integrates truncated singular value decomposition(TSVD)with the Chahine method. This approach employs TSVD for data preprocessing, generating a set of initial solutions with noise suppression.A high-quality initial solution is subsequently selected via the L-curve method. This selected candidate solution is then iteratively refined by the Chahine algorithm, enforcing constraints such as non-negativity and improving physical interpretability. Most importantly,GranuSAS employs a parallel architecture that simultaneously yields inversion results from multiple shape models and,by evaluating the accuracy of each model's reconstructed scattering curve, offers a suggestion for model selection in material systems. To systematically validate the accuracy and efficiency of the software, verification was performed using both simulated and experimental datasets. The results demonstrate that the proposed software delivers both satisfactory accuracy and reliable computational efficiency. It provides an easy-to-use and reliable tool for researchers in materials science, helping them fully exploit the potential of SAXS in nanoparticle characterization. 展开更多

An analytical solution for the scattering states is presented in terms of Heun functions. It is shown that for some specially chosen parameter conditions, an infinite number of the exact scattering states is obtained. Sea surface current has a significant influence on electromagnetic(EM) backscattering signals and may constitute a dominant synthetic aperture radar(SAR) imaging mechanism. An effective EM backscattering model for a one-dimensional drifting fractal sea surface is presented in this paper. This model is used to simulate EM backscattering signals from the drifting sea surface. Numerical results show that ocean currents have a significant influence on EM backscattering signals from the sea surface. The normalized radar cross section(NRCS) discrepancies between the model for a coupled wavecurrent fractal sea surface and the model for an uncoupled fractal sea surface increase with the increase of incidence angle,as well as with increasing ocean currents. Ocean currents that are parallel to the direction of the wave can weaken the EM backscattering signal intensity, while the EM backscattering signal is intensified by ocean currents propagating oppositely to the wave direction. The model presented in this paper can be used to study the SAR imaging mechanism for a drifting sea surface. 展开更多

Based on the vibrational potential curves coupled with the minimum energy reaction path, the partial potential energy surface of the reaction I+HI→IH+I was constructed at the QCISD(T)//MP4SDQ level with pseudo potential method. And the formation mechanism of the scattering resonance states of this reaction was well interpreted with the partial potential energy surface. The scattering resonance states of this reaction should belong to Feshbach resonance because of the coupling of the vibrational mode and the translational mode. With the one-dimensional square potential well model, the resonance width and lifetime of the I+HI(v=0)→IH(v'=0)+I state-to-state reaction were calculated, which preferably explained the high-resolved threshold photodetachment spectroscopy of the IHI- anion performed by Neumark et al.. 展开更多

Attenuation of PKP(DF) in the Eastern Hemisphere is examined in terms of multiple scattering to simultaneously explain a puzzling relationship, a relatively fast velocity anomaly corre- sponding to strong attenuation. Reflectivity synthetics with one-dimensional random velocity fluctua- tions are compared with observations of PKP(DF)/PKP(Cdiff) amplitude ratios and differential travel times of PKP(Cdiff)-PKP(DF) for the equatorial paths. A Gaussian distribution of P-wave velocity fluctuations with the standard deviations of 5%, 6%, and 7% in the uppermost 200 km of the inner core is superimposed on the velocity structure that is slightly faster than the typical structure in the Eastern Hemisphere, which is likely to explain both the travel time and amplitude data as far as only the one-dimensional structure is considered. Further examinations of the statistic characteristic of scat- terer distribution in two and three-dimensions are required to obtain a realistic conclusion. 展开更多

In recent years, linear fractal sea surface models have been developed for the sea surface in order to establish an electromagnetic backscattering model. Unfortunately, the sea surface is always nonlinear, particularly at high sea states. We present a nonlinear fractal sea surface model and derive an electromagnetic backscattering model. Using this model, we numerically calculate the normalized radar cross section (NRCS) of a nonlinear sea surface. Comparing the averaged NRCS between linear and nonlinear fractal models, we show that the NRCS of a linear fractal sea surface underestimates the NRCS of the real sea surface, especially for sea states with high fractal dimensions, and for dominant ocean surface gravity waves that are either very short or extremely long. 展开更多

We investigate the tunneling dynamics of the Fermi gases in an optical lattice in the Bose--Einstein condensation (BEC) regime. The three critical scattering lengths and the system energies are found in different cases of Josephson oscillation (JO), oscillating-phase-type self-trapping (OPTST), running-phase-type self-trapping (RPTST), and self-trapping (ST). It is found that the s-wave scattering lengths have a crucial role on the tunneling dynamics. By adjusting the scattering length in the adiabatic condition, the transition probability changes with the adiabatic periodicity and a rectangular periodic pattern emerges. The periodicity of the rectangular wave depends on the system parameters such as the periodicity of the adjustable parameter, the s-wave scattering length. 展开更多

Motivated by the recent experimental developments in ultracold molecules and atoms,we propose a simple theoretical model to address the disassociation, reflection, and transmission probability of a one-dimensional cold molecule via quantum scattering.First,we show the Born approximation results in the weak interaction regime. Then,by employing the Lippmann-Schwinger equation,we give the numerical solution and investigate the disassociation’s dependence on the injection momentum and the interaction strengths. We find that the maximum disassociation rate has a limit when increasing the interaction strengths and injection momentum. We expect that our model can be realized in experiments in the near future. 展开更多

High-resolution seeing through complex scattering media such as turbid water, biological tissues, and mist is a significant challenge because the strong scattering scrambles the light paths and forms the scattering wall.We propose an active polarized iterative optimization approach for high-resolution imaging through complex scattering media.By acquiring a series of sub-polarized images,we can capture the diverse pattern-illuminated images with various high-frequency component information caused by the Brownian motion of complex scattering materials, which are processed using the common-mode rejection of polarization characteristics to extract target information from scattering medium information.Following that, our computational reconstruction technique employs an iterative optimization algorithm that commences with patternilluminated Fourier ptychography for reconstructing the high-resolution scene. It is extremely important that our approach for high-resolution imaging through complex scattering media is not limited by priori information and optical memory effect. The proposed approach is suitable for not only dynamic but also static scattering media, which may find applications in the biomedicine field, such as skin abnormalities,non-invasive blood flow, and superficial tumors. 展开更多

Glucose molecules are of great significance being one of the most important molecules in metabolic chain. However, due to the small Raman scattering cross-section and weak/non-adsorption on bare metals, accurately obtaining their"fingerprint information"remains a huge obstacle.Herein,we developed a tip-enhanced Raman scattering(TERS)technique to address this challenge.Adopting an optical fiber radial vector mode internally illuminates the plasmonic fiber tip to effectively suppress the background noise while generating a strong electric-field enhanced tip hotspot.Furthermore, the tip hotspot approaching the glucose molecules was manipulated via the shear-force feedback to provide more freedom for selecting substrates.Consequently, our TERS technique achieves the visualization of all Raman modes of glucose molecules within spectral window of 400-3200 cm^(-1),which is not achievable through the far-field/surface-enhanced Raman,or the existing TERS techniques. Our TERS technique offers a powerful tool for accurately identifying Raman scattering of molecules, paving the way for biomolecular analysis. 展开更多

We investigate theoretically the enhancement of mechanical squeezing in a multimode optomechanical system by introducing a coherent phonon–photon interaction via the backward stimulated Brillouin scattering(BSBS)process. The coherent photon–phonon interaction where two optical modes couple to a Brillouin acoustic mode with a large decay rate provides an extra channel for the cooling of a Duffing mechanical oscillator. The squeezing degree and the robustness to the thermal noises of the Duffing mechanical mode can be enhanced greatly. When the Duffing nonlinearity is weak, the squeezing degree of the mechanical mode in the presence of BSBS can be improved by more than one order of magnitude compared with that in the absence of BSBS.Our scheme may be extended to other quantum systems to study novel quantum effects. 展开更多

In this study,we developed a single-beam optical trap-based surface-enhanced Raman scattering(SERS)optofluidic molecular fingerprint spectroscopy detection system. This system utilizes a single-beam optical trap to concentrate free silver nanoparticles(AgNPs)within an optofluidic chip, significantly enhancing SERS performance. We investigated the optical field distribution characteristics within the tapered fiber using COMSOL simulation software and established a MATLAB simulation model to validate the single-beam optical trap's effectiveness in capturing AgNPs,demonstrating the theoretical feasibility of our approach. To verify the particle capture efficacy of the system,we experimentally controlled the optical trap's on-off state to manage the capture and release of particles precisely. The experimental results indicated that the Raman signal intensity in the capture state was significantly higher than in the non-capture state, confirming that the single-beam optical trap effectively enhances the SERS detection capability of the optofluidic detection system.Furthermore,we employed Raman mapping techniques to investigate the impact of the capture area on the SERS effect, revealing that the spectral intensity of molecular fingerprints in the laser-trapping region is significantly improved. We successfully detected the Raman spectrum of crystal violet at a concentration of 10^(−9)mol/L and pesticide thiram at a concentration of 10^(−5)mol/L,further demonstrating the ability of the single-beam optical trap in enhancing the molecular fingerprint spectrum identification capability of the SERS optofluidic chips. The optical trapping SERS optofluidic detection system developed in this study,as a key component of an integrated optoelectronic sensing system, holds the potential for integration with portable high-power lasers and high-performance Raman spectrometers. This integration is expected to advance highly integrated technologies and significantly enhance the overall performance and portability of optoelectronic sensing systems. 展开更多

Accurate satellite data assimilation under all-sky conditions requires enhanced parameterization of scattering properties for frozen hydrometeors in clouds. This study aims to develop a nonspherical scattering look-up table that contains the optical properties of five hydrometeor types—rain, cloud water, cloud ice, graupel, and snow—for the Advanced Radiative Transfer Modeling System(ARMS)at frequencies below 220 GHz.The discrete dipole approximation(DDA)method is employed to compute the single-scattering properties of solid cloud particles, modeling these particles as aggregated roughened bullet rosettes. The bulk optical properties of the cloud layer are derived by integrating the singlescattering properties with a modified Gamma size distribution, specifically for distributions with 18 effective radii. The bulk phase function is then projected onto a series of generalized spherical functions, applying the delta-M method for truncation. The results indicate that simulations using the newly developed nonspherical scattering look-up table exhibit significant consistency with observations under deep convection conditions. In contrast, assuming spherical solid cloud particles leads to excessive scattering at mid-frequency channels and insufficient scattering at high-frequency channels. This improvement in radiative transfer simulation accuracy for cloudy conditions will better support the assimilation of allsky microwave observations into numerical weather prediction models.·Frozen cloud particles were modeled as aggregates of bullet rosettes and the optical properties at microwave range were computed by DDA.·A complete process and technical details for constructing a look-up table of ARMS are provided.·The ARMS simulations generally show agreement with observations of MWTS and MWHS under typhoon conditions using the new look-up table. 展开更多

In sub nanometer carbon nanotubes, water exhibits unique dynamic characteristics, and in the high-frequency region of the infrared spectrum, where the stretching vibrations of the internal oxygen-hydrogen(O-H)bonds are closely related to the hydrogen bonds(H-bonds)network between water molecules. Therefore,it is crucial to analyze the relationship between these two aspects. In this paper, the infrared spectrum and motion characteristics of the stretching vibrations of the O-H bonds in one-dimensional confined water(1DCW)and bulk water(BW)in(6,6)single-walled carbon nanotubes(SWNT)are studied by molecular dynamics simulations. The results show that the stretching vibrations of the two O-H bonds in 1DCW exhibit different frequencies in the infrared spectrum, while the O-H bonds in BW display two identical main frequency peaks.Further analysis using the spring oscillator model reveals that the difference in the stretching amplitude of the O-H bonds is the main factor causing the change in vibration frequency, where an increase in stretching amplitude leads to a decrease in spring stiffness and, consequently,a lower vibration frequency.A more in-depth study found that the interaction of H-bonds between water molecules is the fundamental cause of the increased stretching amplitude and decreased vibration frequency of the O-H bonds. Finally,by analyzing the motion trajectory of the H atoms, the dynamic differences between 1DCW and BW are clearly revealed. These findings provide a new perspective for understanding the behavior of water molecules at the nanoscale and are of significant importance in advancing the development of infrared spectroscopy detection technology. 展开更多

Quantitative detection of trace small-sized nanoplastics(<100 nm)remains a significant challenge in surface-enhanced Raman scattering(SERS).To tackle this issue,we developed a hydrophobic CuO@Ag nanowire substrate and introduced a multiplex-feature analysis strategy based on the coffee ring effect. This substrate not only offers high Raman enhancement but also exhibits a high probability of detection(POD),enabling rapid and accurate identification of 50 nm polystyrene nanoplastics over a broad concentration range(1–10−10 wt%).Importantly, experimental results reveal a strong correlation between the coffee ring formation and the concentration of nanoplastic dispersion.By incorporating Raman signal intensity, coffee ring diameter, and POD as combined features,we established a machine learning-based mapping between nanoplastic concentration and coffee ring characteristics, allowing precise predictions of dispersion concentration. The mean squared error of these predictions is remarkably low, ranging from 0.21 to 0.54,representing a 19 fold improvement in accuracy compared to traditional linear regression-based methods. This strategy effectively integrates SERS with wettability modification techniques, ensuring high sensitivity and fingerprinting capabilities, while addressing the limitations of Raman signal intensity in accurately reflecting concentration changes at ultra-low levels, providing a new idea for precise SERS measurements of nanoplastics. 展开更多
