Comprehending and exploring large and complex data is becoming increasingly important for a diverse population of users in a wide range of application domains.Visualization has proven to be well-suited in supporting this endeavor by tapping into the power of human visual perception.However,non-experts in the field of visual data analysis often have problems with correctly reading and interpreting information from visualization idioms that are new to them.To support novices in learning how to use new digital technologies,the concept of onboarding has been successfully applied in other fields and first approaches also exist in the visualization domain.However,empirical evidence on the effectiveness of such approaches is scarce.Therefore,we conducted three studies with Amazon Mechanical Turk(MTurk)workers and students investigating visualization onboarding at different levels:(1)Firstly,we explored the effect of visualization onboarding,using an interactive step-by-step guide,on user performance for four increasingly complex visualization techniques with time-oriented data:a bar chart,a horizon graph,a change matrix,and a parallel coordinates plot.We performed a between-subject experiment with 596 participants in total.The results showed that there are no significant differences between the answer correctness of the questions with and without onboarding.Particularly,participants commented that for highly familiar visualization types no onboarding is needed.However,for the most unfamiliar visualization type—the parallel coordinates plot—performance improvement can be observed with onboarding.(2)Thus,we performed a second study with MTurk workers and the parallel coordinates plot to assess if there is a difference in user performances on different visualization onboarding types:step-by-step,scrollytelling tutorial,and video tutorial.The study revealed that the video tutorial was ranked as the most positive on average,based on a sentiment analysis,followed by the scrollytelling tutorial and the interactive step-by-step guide.(3)As videos are a traditional method to support users,we decided to use the scrollytelling approach as a less prevalent way and explore it in more detail.Therefore,for our third study,we gathered data towards users’experience in using the in-situ scrollytelling for the VA tool Netflower.The results of the evaluation with students showed that they preferred scrollytelling over the tutorial integrated in the Netflower landing page.Moreover,for all three studies we explored the effect of task difficulty.In summary,the in-situ scrollytelling approach works well for integrating onboarding in a visualization tool.Additionally,a video tutorial can help to introduce interaction techniques of visualization. 展开更多

Visualization onboarding supports users in reading,interpreting,and extracting information from visual data representations.General-purpose onboarding tools and libraries are applicable for explaining a wide range of graphical user interfaces but cannot handle specific visualization requirements.This paper describes a first step towards developing an onboarding library called VisAhoi,which is easy to integrate,extend,semi-automate,reuse,and customize.VisAhoi supports the creation of onboarding elements for different visualization types and datasets.We demonstrate how to extract and describe onboarding instructions using three well-known high-level descriptive visualization grammars—Vega-Lite,Plotly.js,and ECharts.We show the applicability of our library by performing two usage scenarios that describe the integration of VisAhoi into a VA tool for the analysis of high-throughput screening(HTS)data and,second,into a Flourish template to provide an authoring tool for data journalists for a treemap visualization.We provide a supplementary website(https://datavisyn.github.io/visAhoi/)that demonstrates the applicability of VisAhoi to various visualizations,including a bar chart,a horizon graph,a change matrix/heatmap,a scatterplot,and a treemap visualization. 展开更多

A typical problem in Visual Analytics(VA)is that users are highly trained experts in their application domains,but have mostly no experience in using VA systems.Thus,users often have difficulties interpreting and working with visual representations.To overcome these problems,user assistance can be incorporated into VA systems to guide experts through the analysis while closing their knowledge gaps.Different types of user assistance can be applied to extend the power of VA,enhance the user’s experience,and broaden the audience for VA.Although different approaches to visualization onboarding and guidance in VA already exist,there is a lack of research on how to design and integrate them in effective and efficient ways.Therefore,we aim at putting together the pieces of the mosaic to form a coherent whole.Based on the Knowledge-Assisted Visual Analytics model,we contribute a conceptual model of user assistance for VA by integrating the process of visualization onboarding and guidance as the two main approaches in this direction.As a result,we clarify and discuss the commonalities and differences between visualization onboarding and guidance,and discuss how they benefit from the integration of knowledge extraction and exploration.Finally,we discuss our descriptive model by applying it to VA tools integrating visualization onboarding and guidance,and showing how they should be utilized in different phases of the analysis in order to be effective and accepted by the user. 展开更多

The International Maritime Organization(IMO)aims to reduce shipping greenhouse gas emissions by 70%by 2050,positioning onboard carbon capture(OCC)systems as essential tools,with chemical absorption being particularly favorable due to its retrofit viability.This review analyzes advancements in chemical absorption technologies specific to shipborne applications,focusing on absorbent development,absorption tower optimization,and system integration.This article begins with an overview of OCC principles and advantages,followed by a discussion of technological progress,including feasibility studies and project outcomes.It explores various chemical absorbents,assessing performance,degradation,and emissions.The structural configurations of absorption towers and their modeling techniques are examined,alongside challenges such as limited vessel space,energy constraints,and gas-liquid distribution inefficiencies.Future directions emphasize the need for innovative absorbent designs,advanced simulation for tower optimization,and enhanced integration with ship energy systems,including renewable energy and waste heat recovery.The potential for intelligent technologies to enable real-time monitoring and automated management of carbon capture systems is highlighted.Finally,further investigations into fundamental interfaces and reaction kinetics are essential for advancing shipborne carbon capture technologies,providing a crucial reference for researchers and practitioners in the field. 展开更多

The rapid evolution of unmanned aerial vehicle(UAV)technology and autonomous capabilities has positioned UAV as promising last-mile delivery means.Vehicle and onboard UAV collaborative delivery is introduced as a novel delivery mode.Spatiotemporal collaboration,along with energy consumption with payload and wind conditions play important roles in delivery route planning.This paper introduces the traveling salesman problem with time window and onboard UAV(TSPTWOUAV)and emphasizes the consideration of real-world scenarios,focusing on time collaboration and energy consumption with wind and payload.To address this,a mixed integer linear programming(MILP)model is formulated to minimize the energy consumption costs of vehicle and UAV.Furthermore,an adaptive large neighborhood search(ALNS)algorithm is applied to identify high-quality solutions efficiently.The effectiveness of the proposed model and algorithm is validated through numerical tests on real geographic instances and sensitivity analysis of key parameters is conducted. 展开更多

In the model, the binary Langmuir equilibrium adsorption equation is adopted to describe the adsorption performance of the adsorbent, the linear driving force (LDF) model is used to describe the mass transfer rate, and the thermal effect during adsorption is considered. The finite difference method is used in simulation and comparison. Numerical results have a reasonable agreement with the experimental research. 展开更多

The theoretical foundation of this descriptive phenomenological study is communication and leadership grounded in Burns theory of transformational leadership. The purpose of this study was to expand on and fill a gap in the research of how the lived experiences of nine registered nurses add to the influence communication and leadership has on retention, and to answer the following research questions. What are the lived experiences of registered nurses in the Western United States as they relate to retention when those registered nurses perceive a lack of communication? And, what are the lived experiences of registered nurses in the Western United States as they relate to retention when those registered nurses perceive a lack of leadership? The researcher interviewed nine participants working in hospitals in the Western United States. Thematic and descriptive data analysis resulted in five primary themes, transparency, cohesive workplace, passion, collaboration, and leadership. The study used transformational leadership as the primary leadership philosophy. The results of the study showed that leadership and communication can have a positive, or a negative influence on retention of registered. 展开更多

A method for the implementation of integrated three-degree-of-freedom constrained entry guidance for reusable launch vehicle is presented. Given any feasible entry conditions, terminal area energy management interface conditions, and the reference trajectory generated onboard then, the method can generate a longitudinal guidance profile rapidly, featuring linear quadratic regular method and a proportional-integral-derivative tracking law with time-varying gains, which satisfies all the entry corridor constraints and meets the requirements with high precision. Afterwards, by utilizing special features of crossrange parameter, establishing bank-reversal corridor, and determining bank-reversals according to dynamically adjusted method, the algorithm enables the lateral entry guidance system to fly a wide range of missions and provides reliable and good performance in the presence of significant aerodynamic modeling uncertainty. Fast trajectory guidance profiles and simulations with a reusable launch vehicle model for various missions and aerodynamic uncertainties are presented to demonstrate the capacity and reliability of this method. 展开更多

Analytic redundancy-based fault diagnosis technique (ARFDT) is applied to onboard maintenance system (OMS). The principle of the proposed ARFDT scheme is to design a redundancy configuration using ARFDT to enhance the functions of redundancy management and built in test equipment (BITE) monitor. Redundancy configuration for dual-redundancy and analytic redundancy is proposed, in which, the fault diagnosis includes detection and isolation. In order to keep the balance between rapid diagnosis and binary hypothesis, a filter together with an elapsed time limit is designed for sequential probability ratio test (SPRT) in the process of isolation. Diagnosis results would be submitted to central maintenance computer (CMC) together with BITE information. Moreover, by adopting reconstruction, the designed method not only provides analytic redundancy to help redundancy management, but also compensates the output when both of the sensors of the same type are faulty. Our scheme is applied to an aircraft’s sensors in a simulation experiment, and the results show that the proposed filter SPRT (FSPRT) saves at least 50% of isolation time than Wald SPRT (WSPRT). Also, effectiveness, practicability and rapidity of the proposed scheme can be successfully achieved in OMS. 展开更多

In terms of fast response problem of unanticipated marine target, it is necessary to design the satellite-ground-combined operation mechanism and planning algorithm for autonomous task planning. Firstly, based on the autonomous operation and task planning of remote sensing satellite group, it is divided into two parts: ground planning and satellite autonomous planning. Secondly,the satellite-ground-combined operation mechanism and operation flow for task planning are proposed after fully considering the resource characteristics and task demand characteristics of the ground and satellite. The satellite autonomous task planning algorithm based on extended contract net is designed. Through the simulation operation of the self-developed distributed simulation demonstration software, it shows that the operation mechanism can coordinate and cooperate effectively between the satellite autonomous task planning and ground planning. It can give full play to the advantages of the ground computing resources, reflect the control intention, make full use of the real-time feature and flexibility of the satellite calculation, and respond fast to the unanticipated task. Besides, it has solved problems of the untimely response of ground control on unanticipated observation task, the limitation of satellite computing resources and satellite-ground planning and coordination, which can effectively improve the responsiveness of remote sensing satellite to the observation task of maritime unanticipated target. 展开更多

In this article,an omnidirectional dual-polarized antenna with synergetic electromagnetic and aerodynamic properties is propounded for high-speed diversity systems.The propounded antenna comprises a probe-fed cavity for horizontally polarized radiation and a microstrip-fed slot for vertical polarization.Double-layer metasurfaces are properly designed as artificial magnetic conductor boundaries with direct metal-mountable onboard installation and compact sizes.An attached wedge-shaped block is utilized for windage reduction in hydrodynamics.The propounded antenna is fabricated for design verification,and the experimental results agree well with the simulated ones.For vertical polarization,the operating bandwidth is in the range of 2.37–2.55 GHz,and the realized gain variation in the azimuthal radiation pattern is 3.67 decibels(dB).While an impedance bandwidth in the range of 2.45–2.47 GHz and a gain variation of 3.71 dB are also achieved for horizontal polarization.A port isolation more than 33 dB is obtained in a compact volume of 0.247λ_(0)×0.345λ_(0)×0.074λ_(0),whereλ_(0)represents the wavelength in vacuum at the center frequency,wherein the wedge-shaped block is included.The propounded diversity antenna has electromagnetic and aerodynamic merits,and exhibits an excellent potential for high-speed onboard communication. 展开更多

Control technologies are innovated to satisfy increasingly complicated control demands of gas turbine engines.In terms of limit protection control,a novel model-based multivariable limit protection control method,which is achieved by adaptive command reconstruction and multiplecontrol loop selection and switch logic,is proposed in this paper to address the problem of balancing smaller thrust loss and safe operations by comparing with widely-used Min-Max logic.Five different combination modes of control loops,which represent the online control loop of last time instant and that of current time instant,is analyzed.Different command reconstructions are designed for these modes,which is based on static gain conversion of amplitude beyond limits by using an onboard model.The double-prediction based control loop selection and switch logic is developed to choose a control loop appropriately by comparing converted amplitude beyond limits regardless of one or more parameters tending to exceed limits.The proposed method is implemented in a twin-spool turbofan engine to achieve limit protection with direct thrust control,and the loss of thrust is improved by about 30% in comparison with the loss of thrust caused by Min-Max logic when limit protection control is activated,which demonstrates the effectiveness of the proposed method. 展开更多

The emergent task is a kind of uncertain event that satellite systems often encounter in the application process.In this paper,the multi-satellite distributed coordinating and scheduling problem considering emergent tasks is studied.Due to the limitation of onboard computational resources and time,common online onboard rescheduling methods for such problems usually adopt simple greedy methods,sacrificing the solution quality to deliver timely solutions.To better solve the problem,a new multi-satellite onboard scheduling and coordinating framework based on multi-solution integration is proposed.This method uses high computational power on the ground and generates multiple solutions,changing the complex onboard rescheduling problem to a solution selection problem.With this method,it is possible that little time is used to generate a solution that is as good as the solutions on the ground.We further propose several multi-satellite coordination methods based on the multi-agent Markov decision process(MMDP)and mixed-integer programming(MIP).These methods enable the satellite to make independent decisions and produce high-quality solutions.Compared with the traditional centralized scheduling method,the proposed distributed method reduces the cost of satellite communication and increases the response speed for emergent tasks.Extensive experiments show that the proposed multi-solution integration framework and the distributed coordinating strategies are efficient and effective for onboard scheduling considering emergent tasks. 展开更多

Using the FengYun-3C(FY-3C)onboard BeiDou Navigation Satellite System(BDS)and Global Positioning System(GPS)data from 2013 to 2017,this study investigates the performance and contribution of BDS to precise orbit determination(POD)for a low-Earth orbit(LEO).The overlap comparison result indicates that code bias correction of BDS can improve the POD accuracy by 12.4%.The multi-year averaged one-dimensional(1D)root mean square(RMS)of the overlapping orbit differences(OODs)for the GPS-only solution is 2.0,1.7,and 1.5 cm,respectively,during the 2013,2015,and 2017 periods.The 1D RMS for the BDS-only solution is 150.9,115.0,and 47.4 cm,respectively,during the 2013,2015,and 2017 periods,which is much worse than the GPS-only solution due to the regional system of BDS and the few BDS channels of the FY-3C receiver.For the BDS and GPS combined solution(also known as the GC combined solution),the averaged 1D RMS is 2.5,2.3,and 1.6 cm,respectively,in 2013,2015,and 2017,while the GC combined POD presents a significant accuracy improvement after the exclusion of geostationary Earth orbit(GEO)satellites.The main reason for the improvement seen after this exclusion is the unfavorable satellite tracking geometry and poor orbit accuracy of GEO satellites.The accuracy of BDS-only and GC combined solutions have gradually improved from 2013 to 2017,thanks to improvements in the accuracy of International GNSS Service(IGS)orbit and clock products in recent years,especially the availability of a high-frequency satellite clock product(30 s sampling interval)since 2015.Moreover,the GC POD(without GEO)was able to achieve slightly better accuracy than the GPS-only POD in 2017,indicating that the fusion of BDS and GPS observations can improve the accuracy of LEO POD.GC combined POD can significantly improve the reliability of LEO POD,simply due to system redundancy.An increased contribution of BDS to LEO POD can be expected with the launch of more BDS satellites and with further improvements in the accuracy of BDS satellite products in the near future. 展开更多

Its real-time data handling and management and control tasks are arduous. Based on the advanced techniques of foreign countries, an improved structure of onboard data handling systems feasible for SST, is proposed. This article concentrated on the development of a Central Management & Control Unit (MCU) based on FPGA and DSP. Through reconfigurating the FPGA and DSP programs, the prototype could perform different tasks. Thus the inheritability of the whole system is improved. The completed dual-channel prototype proves that the system meets all requirements of the MOT. Its high reliability and safety features also meet the requirements under harsh conditions such as mine detection. 展开更多

An improved nonlinear onboard adaptive model for aero-engine performance control 被引量:2

The onboard adaptive model can achieve the online real-time estimation of performance parameters that are difficult to measure in a real aero-engine,which is the key to realizing modelbased performance control.It must possess satisfactory numerical stability and estimation accuracy.However,the positive definiteness of the state covariance matrix may be destroyed in filter estimation because of the existence of some uncertain factors,such as the accumulated measurement error,noise,and disturbance in the strongly nonlinear engine system,inevitably causing divergence of estimates of Cholesky decomposition-based Spherical Unscented Kalman Filter(SUKF).Therefore,this paper proposes an improved SUKF algorithm(iSUKF)and applies it to the performance degradation estimation of the engine.Compared to SUKF,the iSUKF mainly replaces the Cholesky decomposition with the Singular Value Decomposition(SVD),which is numerically stable without any strict requirement for the state covariance matrix.Meanwhile,a correction factor is designed to assess the measurement deviation between the real engine and the nonlinear onboard model to correct the state covariance matrix,thus maintaining better numerical stability of parameters estimated by the filter.Then,an offline correction strategy is also proposed to eliminate the influence of the degradation of unestimated health parameters or the filter’s inadequate estimation of the coupled health parameters.This action effectively promotes the onboard adaptive model’s estimation accuracy concerning the degradation of the engine’real health parameters and its performance parameters.Finally,the simulation results show that the iSUKF can maintain the numerical stability of the filter’s estimation of health parameters.Compared with the existing methods,the offline correction strategy improves the estimation accuracy of the iSUKF-based nonlinear onboard adaptive model for the performance parameters of the real engine by more than 50%.The proposed method will provide feasible technical support for model-based aero-engine performance control. 展开更多

In recent years,the large Low Earth Orbit(LEO)constellations have become a hot topic due to their great potential to improve the Global Navigation Satellite Systems(GNSS)positioning performance.One of the important focus is how to obtain the accurate and reliable orbits for these constellations with dozens of LEO satellites.The GNSS-based Precise Orbit Determination(POD)will be exclusively performed to achieve this goal,where the Integer Ambiguity Resolution(IAR)plays a key role in acquiring high-quality orbits.In this study,we present a comprehensive analysis of the benefit of the single-receiver IAR in LEO POD and discuss its implication for the future LEO constellations.We perform ambiguity-fixed LEO POD for four typical missions,including Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment(GRACE)Follow-On(GRACE-FO),Swarm,Jason-3 and Sentinel-3,using the Uncalibrated Phase Delay(UPD)products generated by our GREAT(GNSS+REsearch,Application and Teaching)software.The results show that the ambiguity fixing processing can significantly improve the accuracy of LEO orbits.There are negligible differences between our UPD-based ambiguity-fixed orbits and those based on the Observable Signal Bias(OSB)and Integer Recovery Clock(IRC)products,indicating the good-quality of UPD products we generated.Compared to the float solution,the fixed solution presents a better consistency with the external precise science orbits and the largest accuracy improvement of 5 mm is achieved for GRACE-FO satellites.Meanwhile,the benefit can be observed in laser ranging residuals as well,with a Standard Deviation(STD)reduction of 3–4 mm on average for the fixed solutions.Apart from the absolute orbits,the relative accuracy of the space baseline is also improved by 20–30%in the fixed solutions.The result demonstrates the superior performance of the ambiguity-fixed LEO POD,which appears as a particularly promising technique for POD of future LEO constellations. 展开更多

This paper presents a comprehensive charging operation for an electric-drive-reconfigured onboard charger(EDROC)with active power factor correction(APFC).The charging topology exclusively utilizes the three-phase permanent magnet synchronous motor(PMSM)propulsion system as a three-channel boost-type converter in which only a contactor and a small diode bridge are added.First,the operation scenario of the EDROC is introduced.Second,the relationship between electromagnetic torque and rotor position is investigated.Third,the current ripple cancellation of the EDROC is discussed in detail.Moreover,to implement the single-phase APFC along with charging voltage/current regulation of propulsion battery,control strategies including current balancing and synchronous/interleaving PWM strategies are incorporated.Finally,200W proof-of-concept prototype-based tests are conducted under different operation scenarios. 展开更多
