Offsite Manufacturing: A Survey on the Current Status and Risks of Offsite Construction in Iran

Iran needs around 1.5 million residential homes to be constructed annually to answer its cumulative demand by 2025. Given the current situation of the Iranian construction industry, it seems almost impossible to achieve this objective by using traditional methods of construction alone. Offsite manufacturing (OSM) can potentially increase the housing output in Iran thanks to its advantages over traditional methods of construction. However, OSM imposes a different set of risks which should be studied in the Iranian context. This study aims to investigate the readiness of the Iranian construction industry if offsite methods were to be introduced to the country in large industrial scales. To this end, a questionnaire survey was conducted to identify the risks and required actions in order to achieve successful application of these methods. Several subjects including costs, practicality, design and construction processes, demand, governmental policies, technology, and sustainability issues were investigated as the core research areas. The results revealed that, considering the current situations, it would be highly risky to introduce offsite methods of construction to Iran. Research findings highlight some key areas including design and construction processes, economies of scale, governmental supports, and education, which should be addressed to mitigate the identified risks. 展开更多

The results of an accident analysis for the loss of offsite power(LOOP)scenario in a reference Bushehr-1 VVER-1000/V446 nuclear power plant(NPP)are presented in this paper.This study attempted to provide a better analysis of LOOP accident management by integrating deterministic and probabilistic approaches.The RELAP5 code was used to investigate the occurrence of specific thermal–hydraulic phenomena.The probabilistic safety assessment of the LOOP accident is presented using the SAPHIRE software.LOOP accident data were extracted from the Bushehr NPP final safety analysis reports and probabilistic safety analysis reports.A deterministic approach was used to reduce the core damage frequency in the probabilistic analysis of LOOP accidents.The probabilistic approach was used to better observe the philosophy of defense in depth and safety margins in the deterministic analysis of the LOOP accident.The results show that the integration of the two approaches in LOOP accident investigations improved accident control. 展开更多

The increasing scope of interventions in the cardiac catheterization laboratory (CCL) and electrophysiological laboratory (EPL) has resulted in new challenges for the anaesthesia teams where they deal with different patient categories, complications and safety issues. Collaboration and planning between cardiologist and anaesthesiologist are required for both patient safety and procedural success. This review aims to discuss procedures performed in interventional cardiology and the importance of anaesthesiologists in managing such patients. Percutaneous interventions are being increasingly performed in adult as well as in pediatric patients. Procedures are usually done under mild to moderate sedation. General anaesthesia is required in certain conditions and also in pediatric patients. Knowledge of echocardiography, individual disease condition and fluoroscopy is important. Anaesthesiologists are assuming an increasingly important role in the multidisciplinary management of complex patients and interventions. A comprehensive understanding of procedures is essential to provide a high level of anaesthetic care and maintain patient safety. 展开更多
