The fluid flow in tundish is a non-isothermal process and the temperature variation of stream from teeming ladle dominates the fluid flow and thermal distribution in tundish. A numerical model was established to investigate the effect of inlet cooling rate on fluid flow and temperature distribution in tundish based on a FTSC (Flexible Thin Slab Casting) tundish. The inlet cooling rate varies from 0. 5 to 0. 25 ~C/rain. Under the present calculation conditions, the following conclusions were made. When the stream temperature from teeming ladle drops seriously (for inlet cooling rate of 0.5℃/min), there is a "backward flow" at the coming end of casting. The horizontal flow along the free surface turns to flow along the bottom of tundish. The bottom flow shortens the fluid flow route in tundish and deteriorates the removal effect of nonmetallic inclusions from molten steel. Nevertheless, when the inlet cooling rate decreases to 0.25℃/min, the horizontal flow is sustained during the whole casting period. The present research provides theoretical directions for temperature control in teeming ladle and continuous casting tundish during production of advanced steels. 展开更多

At a fully mechanized working face of a coal mine as prototype,we investigated,by simulation, the flow field and dust distribution during the process of its isolation by a curtain of air, using the CFD software, Fluent. The results show that the air curtain installed on the shearer can effectively prevent the dust (especially the respirable dust)from diffusing into the work area of the operator, reducing the dust concentration on the side of the operator and greatly improving his working environment. The field application of the air curtain shows that the dust-isolation effect of an air curtain is quite noticeable. The isolation efficiency for respiratory dust is over 70%and,as well,it has good dust-isolation effect for nonrespiratory dust. The air curtain is a useful way to resolve the problem of dust-isolation at a fully mechanized working face.It has a practical background elsewhere with more extensive applications. 展开更多

The adaptive mesh mesh technique is developed and applied in three dimensional numerical simulation of welding process on the base of the commercial software. Special user subroutine is worked out to accom- plish this function. This technique can make the dense mesh moving simultaneously with the heat source while the other area of the structure with much coarser mesh, greatly reducing the number of nodes and elements in the analysis.Temperature field, displacement and stress distributions during welding pro- cess me analyzed by FEM method with adaptive mesh and the analysis is also conducted with normal FEM method. The temperature field, displacement and stress distributions obtained with both methods are shown in contrast. The results show that the temperature fields and the displacement distributions of simulation on adaptive mesh correspond wery well with that of without adaptive mesh. Though the stress distributions have some difference, but the trends of the stress distribution are corresponding. The com- parison of the computing time of the two meshes indicates that the adaptive that the adaptive mesh can greatly reduce the calculation time when used for welding process. 展开更多

A two-dimensional, three-temperature radiation magneto-hydrodynamics model is applied to the investigation of evolutional trends in x-ray radiation power, energy, peak plasma temperature and density as functions of drive current rise-time and initial load density distribution by using the typical experimental parameters of tungsten wire-array Z- pinch on the Qiangguang-I generator. The numerical results show that as the drive current rise-time is shortened, x-ray radiation peak power, energy, peak plasma density and peak ion temperature increase approximately linearly, but among them the x-ray radiation peak power increases more quickly. As the initial plasma density distribution in the radial direction becomes gradually flattened, the peak radiation power and the peak ion-temperature almost exponentially increase, while the radiation energy and the peak plasma density change only a little. The main effect of shortening drive current rise-time is to enhance compression of plasma, and the effect of flattening initial load density distribution in the radial direction is to raise the plasma temperature. Both of the approaches elevate the x-ray peak radiation power 展开更多

Analysis of the aerodynamic performance of high-speed trains in special cuts would provide references for the critical overturning velocity and complement the operation safety management under strong winds. This work was conducted to investigate the flow structure around trains under different cut depths, slope angles using computational fluid dynamics(CFD).The high-speed train was considered with bogies and inter-carriage gaps. And the accuracy of the numerical method was validated by combining with the experimental data of wind tunnel tests. Then, the variations of aerodynamic forces and surface pressure distribution of the train were mainly analyzed. The results show that the surroundings of cuts along the railway line have a great effect on the crosswind stability of trains. With the slope angle and depth of the cut increasing, the coefficients of aerodynamic forces tend to reduce. An angle of 75°is chosen as the optimum one for the follow-up research.Under different depth conditions, the reasonable cut depth for high-speed trains to run safely is 3 m lower than that of the conventional cut whose slope ratio is 1:1.5.Furthermore,the windward slope angle is more important than the leeward one for the train aerodynamic performance.Due to the shield of appropriate cuts, the train body is in a minor positive pressure environment. Thus, designing a suitable cut can contribute to improving the operation safety of high-speed trains. 展开更多

This work was done in Summer of 1988, 1989 and 1992, at three different stations (34, 39 and 44 m under sea level), in the south Yellow Sea using narrow band acoustic pulses with center frequencies of 120, 160 and 200 kHz.The pulses were echoed back from three different depths. We used CTD to record the temperature and salinity of different depth day and night, and the plankton samples at different layers were hauled up for comparison. We applied the numerical method introduced by R. Kind to calculate reflected plane wave spectrum, measured temperature and salinity in vertical direction of non-uniform layer distribution and obtained the numerical simulation signals of backward scattering sound waves from thermocline layers. We then compared them with the experimental data. Through the experiments of the same periords of three years we have confimed that the measured time that layer-scattering-waves to reach our recorders agreed well with that obtained by temperature sectional simulated data. On the other hand, there is no apparent effects of plankton distribution. This indicates that acoustic scattering mainly depends on physical non-uniformity property of the media (sea water). 展开更多
