Project New Orion entails a pulsed nuclear space propulsion system that utilizes photofission through the implementation of an ultra-intense laser. The historical origins derive from the endeavors of Project Orion, which utilized thermonuclear devices to impart a considerable velocity increment on the respective spacecraft. The shear magnitude of Project Orion significantly detracts from the likelihood of progressive research development testing and evaluation. Project New Orion incorporates a more feasible pathway for the progressive research development testing and evaluation of the pulsed nuclear space propulsion system. Photofission through the application of an ultra-intense laser enables a much more controllable and scalable nuclear yield. The energy source for the ultra-intense laser is derived from a first stage liquid hydrogen and liquid oxygen chemical propulsion system. A portion of the thermal/kinetic energy of the rocket propulsive fluid is converted to electrical energy through a magneto-hydrodynamic generator with cryogenic propellant densification for facilitating the integral superconducting magnets. Fundamental analysis of Project New Orion demonstrates the capacity to impart a meaningful velocity increment through ultra-intense laser derived photofission on a small spacecraft. 展开更多

“澳英美三边安全伙伴关系”(AUKUS)被视为澳英美三国“承前启后”的创举,旨在整合国家安全战略、战略性产业政策和自由市场要素,矛头直指中国。自2021年宣布成立以来,AUKUS历经澳英美三国至少各两任政府的考验,特别是在特朗普政府第二... “澳英美三边安全伙伴关系”(AUKUS)被视为澳英美三国“承前启后”的创举,旨在整合国家安全战略、战略性产业政策和自由市场要素,矛头直指中国。自2021年宣布成立以来,AUKUS历经澳英美三国至少各两任政府的考验,特别是在特朗普政府第二任期的审查中涉险过关,展示出了它的韧性。本文遵循学理性和政策性并重、理论视野和经验研究有机融合的思路,重新审视AUKUS的发展进程、民意基础、同盟底色、扩员前景及其战略影响。通过爬梳AUKUS第一支柱“稳中有进”和“进中有变”的发展历程,可以发现“军工学复合体”是支撑AUKUS发展的强大政策联盟,反映出以美国为核心的同盟体系正在贯彻落实针对中国的“军事化的新自由主义”意识形态。本文进而揭示AUKUS的军事同盟本质,分析其运作机理,特别是AUKUS正在倒逼美澳同盟转型升级,进一步夯实针对中国的集体威慑能力。文章最后指出,要高度警惕AUKUS第二支柱甚至第一支柱扩员的强劲势头。长期来看,AUKUS同盟的扩大化恐将给中国带来严峻复杂的安全挑战。 展开更多

In 2013, The Turkish Ministry of Environment and Urban Planning issued four thousand pages of a cut and paste Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) report for the Akkuyu nuclear power plant and nuclear fuel fabrication complex project located on Turkey's Mediterranean coastline, in the Mersin providence, which will be built on a build-own-operate basis by Russian company Rosatom. Numerous complaints have already been filed against the EIA, challenging the scientific integrity of the report on the following grounds: misrepresentation of failure to specify the radioactive inventory and of projected releases into the environment, omitting tritium and carbon-14; incomplete information about the toxic chemicals which will be injected into the cooling system throughout the nuclear complex; misleading information about the cooling water's temporal and chemical effects on marine life; lack of details on an emergency evacuation plan; lack of a comprehensive nuclear waste management plan; unspecified insurance coverage for the nuclear complex, noncompliance with third party liability requirements. Coupled with these complaints are allegations that signatures on some sensitive reports contained or referred to have been falsified. 展开更多

An angular momentum projected potential-energy-surface (PES) calculation, which takes both rotational symmetry restoration and multi-quasiparticle excitation into account, is developed by using the macroscopic-microscopic model and the projected shell model (PSM). Within this method, it may become possible to modify the excitation spectra which are influenced by shape-softness of nuclei, including high-K states. As our first example, this method is adopted to study the collective and multi-quasiparticle excitations of 178Hf~ and the results are in good agreement with the existing experimental data. In addition, as for the dominant structure of non- collective 6+ bands, the conflict between experimental result and the previous PSM calculation is clarified. 展开更多

The Future Role of the Nuclear Energy in Brazil in a Transition Energy Scenario

This paper discusses and presents figures about the future power consumption in the world and, especially in Brazil, based on the current world and Brazilian’s energy scenarios. Emphasis is given to the scenarios of nuclear power and uranium resources demand. A discussion on the future roles of thorium and uranium fuels in the replacement of the traditional resources like oil and gas is also presented, as it is the role of the new nuclear power plants, planned to be built in a short term time horizon. This paper considers two different indexes for future projections, and the results obtained indicated a strong dependence on them. The time horizon for the analysis was fixed on the time estimated for Brazil to reach its maximum in population, and parameters evaluated were taken from the Brazilian’s governmental and world data on the population growth, energy consumption and energy consumption per capita. Calculations show that the power consumption projections for Brazil, for the adopted time horizon and working with global indexes, become overestimated, when compared with the results considering the national indexes. According to our approach, power consumption estimates using global indexes becomes approximately 4.5 times higher than the estimates presented by the Brazilian indexes. This was the motivation to the discussion between the Brazilian and world energy demand scenarios, and also the roles of nuclear energy in the future transition from the current conventional to alternative sources. 展开更多

探讨了滤波反投影法和代数迭代重建算法在核燃料组件CT成像中的应用,重点分析了扫描帧数、噪声及伪影校正对成像质量的影响。首先,对压水堆核燃料组件的CT扫描结果进行了模拟,分析了滤波反投影法在不同扫描帧数下的成像质量。结果表明,... 探讨了滤波反投影法和代数迭代重建算法在核燃料组件CT成像中的应用,重点分析了扫描帧数、噪声及伪影校正对成像质量的影响。首先,对压水堆核燃料组件的CT扫描结果进行了模拟,分析了滤波反投影法在不同扫描帧数下的成像质量。结果表明,随着帧数的增加,图像质量显著提升,条状伪影逐渐减弱。针对CT图像中的常见环状伪影,研究了双边滤波与高斯滤波的校正效果,发现双边滤波在边缘保留方面优于高斯滤波。此外,采用迭代重建算法对带有本底噪声的图像进行重建,验证了其内在的滤波功能及其对噪声抑制的有效性。通过调整迭代步长(松弛因子)和正则化参数,进一步提升了图像质量,同时保留了图像的细节结构。试验结果表明,迭代算法在抑制噪声和环状伪影方面具备优势,但在细节保留上不及滤波反投影法。该结果可为核燃料组件的高精度CT成像提供有效参考。 展开更多
