Obstacles to Vaccination against COVID-19 among the Population Living in the Kindu Health Zone

Introduction: Vaccination faces several obstacles in the fight against COVID-19, yet it has been identified as one of the most effective means of preventing new epidemics of COVID-19. The aim was to contribute to improving vaccination coverage against COVID-19 in the Kindu health zone. Method: We conducted a cross-sectional descriptive study with an analytical focus, using a questionnaire that enabled us to carry out a survey from October 03 to 30, 2022. Our target study population was residents of the Kindu health zone. A total of 420 subjects participated in our study, including 42 per site. Results: The study revealed a low proportion of vaccinated subjects (38.3%) and a high proportion of non-vaccinated subjects (61.70%). Non-belief in the efficacy of vaccines (p = 0.001), infodemia (p = 0.001) and respect for ethnic norms (p = 0.001) were identified as perceived barriers to vaccination. Fear of being branded with the “666” beast badge (p = 0.004) as the perceived severity. Respondents’ perceptions of mass vaccination against COVID-19 are mixed, and their opinions and expectations of COVID-19 vaccination in the town of Kindu are divided. Conclusion: In order to increase the proportion of people vaccinated against COVID-19, it is suggested here to increase the population’s ability to detect false information through a well-structured communication and health education program. 展开更多

A Base Station Deployment Algorithm for Wireless Positioning Considering Dynamic Obstacles

In the context of security systems,adequate signal coverage is paramount for the communication between security personnel and the accurate positioning of personnel.Most studies focus on optimizing base station deployment under the assumption of static obstacles,aiming to maximize the perception coverage of wireless RF(Radio Frequency)signals and reduce positioning blind spots.However,in practical security systems,obstacles are subject to change,necessitating the consideration of base station deployment in dynamic environments.Nevertheless,research in this area still needs to be conducted.This paper proposes a Dynamic Indoor Environment Beacon Deployment Algorithm(DIE-BDA)to address this problem.This algorithm considers the dynamic alterations in obstacle locations within the designated area.It determines the requisite number of base stations,the requisite time,and the area’s practical and overall signal coverage rates.The experimental results demonstrate that the algorithm can calculate the deployment strategy in 0.12 s following a change in obstacle positions.Experimental results show that the algorithm in this paper requires 0.12 s to compute the deployment strategy after the positions of obstacles change.With 13 base stations,it achieves an effective coverage rate of 93.5%and an overall coverage rate of 97.75%.The algorithm can rapidly compute a revised deployment strategy in response to changes in obstacle positions within security systems,thereby ensuring the efficacy of signal coverage. 展开更多

[Objectives]This study was conducted to comprehensively understand the changes in gene expression of plants under environmental stress during different growth and development stages.[Methods]The effects of continuous cropping on the roots and leaves of Polygonatum sibiricum were investigated using transcriptome sequencing.Normally-grown first crop P.sibiricum was used as the control group,while continuous cropping plants served as the treatment group.Transcriptomic differences in roots and leaves under different conditions were compared.[Results]The leaf materials of first crop and continuous cropping P.sibiricum(CCLZ vs FCLZ)showed 21916 differentially expressed genes(DEGs),while the root materials of first crop and continuous cropping P.sibiricum(CCRZ vs FCRZ)exhibited 12726 DEGs(the lowest DEG count)(12726).Among them,1896 DEGs were common.GO enrichment analysis revealed that DEGs were mainly enriched in metabolism,cell wall degradation,and pathogen defense.KEGG enrichment analysis indicated that DEGs in CCLZ vs FCLZ and CCRZ vs FCRZ primarily affected hormone signal transduction and pathogen interaction pathways.[Conclusions]This study preliminarily elucidate the regulatory mechanisms in the roots and leaves of continuous cropping P.sibiricum at the molecular level,providing reference for research on its adaptation to continuous cropping. 展开更多

This paper describes path re-planning techniques and underwater obstacle avoidance for unmanned surface vehicle(USV) based on multi-beam forward looking sonar(FLS). Near-optimal paths in static and dynamic environments with underwater obstacles are computed using a numerical solution procedure based on an A* algorithm. The USV is modeled with a circular shape in 2 degrees of freedom(surge and yaw). In this paper, two-dimensional(2-D) underwater obstacle avoidance and the robust real-time path re-planning technique for actual USV using multi-beam FLS are developed. Our real-time path re-planning algorithm has been tested to regenerate the optimal path for several updated frames in the field of view of the sonar with a proper update frequency of the FLS. The performance of the proposed method was verified through simulations, and sea experiments. For simulations, the USV model can avoid both a single stationary obstacle, multiple stationary obstacles and moving obstacles with the near-optimal trajectory that are performed both in the vehicle and the world reference frame. For sea experiments, the proposed method for an underwater obstacle avoidance system is implemented with a USV test platform. The actual USV is automatically controlled and succeeded in its real-time avoidance against the stationary undersea obstacle in the field of view of the FLS together with the Global Positioning System(GPS) of the USV. 展开更多

AutoReaGas was used for the simulations of premixed gas/air mixtures explosion characteristics in obstacle-filled tubes with a cross-section of 0.2 m×0.2 m and the length of 28 m. Numerical analyses provide a quantitative description of dependence of flame propagation speed and explosion overpressure on obstacles number, blockage ratio and interval distance. Computational results indicate that the obstacles play a significant role in determining the flame transmission speed and explosion overpressure in gas explosions. With the increase of blockage ratio, the explosion overpressure gradually rises. Nevertheless, the flame speed does not always increase along with increasing blockage ratio, but subsequently begins to decrease as the blockage ratio increases to some extend. Also, the interval distance between obstacles strongly influences flame behavior and explosion overpressure. When the obstacle interval distance is equal to inner diameter of the tube, the average flame speed in the obstacle zone and the peak overpressure in tube all reach maximum values. 展开更多

Adaptive gaits for legged robots often requires force sensors installed on foot-tips,however impact,temperature or humidity can affect or even damage those sensors.Efforts have been made to realize indirect force estimation on the legged robots using leg structures based on planar mechanisms.Robot Octopus III is a six-legged robot using spatial parallel mechanism(UP-2UPS) legs.This paper proposed a novel method to realize indirect force estimation on walking robot based on a spatial parallel mechanism.The direct kinematics model and the inverse kinematics model are established.The force Jacobian matrix is derived based on the kinematics model.Thus,the indirect force estimation model is established.Then,the relation between the output torques of the three motors installed on one leg to the external force exerted on the foot tip is described.Furthermore,an adaptive tripod static gait is designed.The robot alters its leg trajectory to step on obstacles by using the proposed adaptive gait.Both the indirect force estimation model and the adaptive gait are implemented and optimized in a real time control system.An experiment is carried out to validate the indirect force estimation model.The adaptive gait is tested in another experiment.Experiment results show that the robot can successfully step on a 0.2 m-high obstacle.This paper proposes a novel method to overcome obstacles for the six-legged robot using spatial parallel mechanism legs and to avoid installing the electric force sensors in harsh environment of the robot's foot tips. 展开更多

To date, many studies related to robots have been performed around the world. Many of these studies have assumed operation at locations where entry is difficult, such as disaster sites, and have focused on various terrestrial robots, such as snake-like, humanoid, spider-type, and wheeled units. Another area of active research in recent years has been aerial robots with small helicopters for operation indoors and outdoors. However,less research has been performed on robots that operate both on the ground and in the air. Accordingly, in this paper, we propose a hybrid aerial/terrestrial robot system. The proposed robot system was developed by equipping a quadcopter with a mechanism for ground movement. It does not use power dedicated to ground movement, and instead uses the flight mechanism of the quadcopter to achieve ground movement as well. Furthermore, we addressed the issue of obstacle avoidance as part of studies on autonomous control. Thus, we found that autonomous control of ground movement and flight was possible for the hybrid aerial/terrestrial robot system, as was autonomous obstacle avoidance by flight when an obstacle appeared during ground movement. 展开更多

The study focuses on the spatial analysis of the threat of potential Aerodrome obstacles on flight safety operations, in Murtala Mohammed Airport, Ikeja Lagos State. The study arises from the cases of flight safety in Nigerian airports which begins from the time passengers board the flight to the take-off time and location, the taxing of the plane and ends at the landing. The research employs GIS to model the 3D obstacles of the aerodrome, which demonstrated the ability in classifying the various threats on the aerodrome. The data acquired for this study ranging from primary data which included georeferencing of the obstacles that are found along the aerodrome with a Differential Global Positioning System (DGPS) to secondary data which included all base maps and satellite images. The spatial data conversion and manipulations were done using the ArcGIS 10.3.1 software. The 3D simulation of the obstacles was done in the ArcScene environment. To examine the spatial patterns of the obstacles around the aerodrome, the Average Nearest Neighbour Analysis (ANN) was used as statistical function from ArcGIS. The obstacles found within the MM2 aerodrome were grouped into the tolerant and non-tolerant ones. However, the finding shows that MM2 aerodrome conforms to ICAO standards and recommended practices. The study thus recommends strict daily monitoring of flight route to mark objects for foundation on the non-tolerance zones. 展开更多

However, due to diverse disturbances, helping robots avoid obstacles, especially nonManhattan obstacles, remains a big challenge. In indoor environments, there are many spatial right-corners that are projected into two dimensional projections with special geometric configurations. These projections, which consist of three lines,might enable us to estimate their position and orientation in 3 D scenes. In this paper, we present a method for home robots to avoid non-Manhattan obstacles in indoor environments from a monocular camera. The approach first detects non-Manhattan obstacles. Through analyzing geometric features and constraints,it is possible to estimate posture differences between orientation of the robot and non-Manhattan obstacles. Finally according to the convergence of posture differences, the robot can adjust its orientation to keep pace with the pose of detected non-Manhattan obstacles, making it possible avoid these obstacles by itself. Based on geometric inferences, the proposed approach requires no prior training or any knowledge of the camera’s internal parameters,making it practical for robots navigation. Furthermore, the method is robust to errors in calibration and image noise. We compared the errors from corners of estimated non-Manhattan obstacles against the ground truth. Furthermore, we evaluate the validity of convergence of differences between the robot orientation and the posture of non-Manhattan obstacles. The experimental results showed that our method is capable of avoiding non-Manhattan obstacles, meeting the requirements for indoor robot navigation. 展开更多

Consider acoustic wave scattering by multiple obstacles with different sound properties on the boundary, which can be modeled by a mixed boundary value problem for the Helmholtz equation in frequency domain. Compared with the standard scattering problem for one obstacle, the difficulty of such a new problem is the interaction of scattered wave by different obstacles. A decomposition method for solving this multiple scattering problem is developed. Using the boundary integral equation method, we decompose the total scattered field into a sum of contributions by separated obstacles. Each contribution corresponds to scattering problem of single obstacle. However, all the single scattering problems are coupled via the boundary conditions, representing the physical interaction of scattered wave by different obstacles. We prove the feasibility of such a decomposition. To compute these contributions efficiently, an iteration algorithm of Jacobi type is proposed, decoupling the interaction of scattered wave from the numerical points of view. Under the well-separation assumptions on multiple obstacles, we prove the convergence of iteration sequence generated by the Jacobi algorithm, and give the error estimate between exact scattered wave and the iteration solution in terms of the obstacle size and the minimal distance of multiple obstacles. Such a quantitative description reveals the essences of wave scattering by multiple obstacles. Numerical examples showing the accuracy and convergence of our method are presented. 展开更多

An effective mass transfer intensification method was proposed by embedding different triangular obstacles to improve the gas-liquid mass transfer efficiency in microchannel.The influences of triangle obstacles configuration,obstacle interval and flow rate on the volumetric mass transfer coefficient,pressure drop and energy consumption were investigated experimentally.The enhancement factor was used to quantify the mass transfer enhancement effect of triangle obstacles.It was found that the isosceles or equilateral triangle obstacles are superior to the rectangular obstacles.The maximum enhancement factor of equilateral triangle obstacles was 2.35.Considering comprehensively mass transfer enhancement and energy consumption,the isosceles triangle obstacle showed the best performance,its maximum enhancement factor was 2.1,while the maximum pressure drop increased only 0.41 kPa(22%)compared to the microchannel without obstacles.Furthermore,a micro-particle image velocimetry(micro-PIV)was utilized to observe the flow field distribution and evolution,in order to understand and analyze the enhancement mechanism.The micro-PIV measurement indicated that the obstacle structure could induce the formation of vortex,which promotes convective mass transfer and thins the flow boundary layer,accordingly,the gas-liquid mass transfer efficiency is remarkably improved.This study can provide theoretical guidance and support for the design and optimization of microchannel with triangular obstacles. 展开更多
