The idea of a network society was introduced by Western sociologists at the end of the 20th century after in-depth research was conducted from perspectives such as informationalism.Influenced by these developments, the concept of constructing a network society also emerged in China.Over the past 30 years,China has made significant progress and achievements in constructing a network society, both in terms of its fundamental construction and social development. It is important that these advancements be summarized and reviewed.China’s network society construction can be divided into two relatively independent yet interconnected components, based on their focal points:its foundational infrastructure and its social development. These two components of China’s network society are managed by different departments.China has integrated the fundamental construction of its network society with the social development of its network society, thereby achieving unified planning, collaborative advancement, and coordinated development. This approach aims to harmonize two aspects:building China’s cyberspace strength and contributing to Chinese informatization, thereby advancing Chinese modernization. 展开更多

Household medicine lease (HML) industry originated way back in the Edo period (17C-19C), when it was promoted by the local fiefdom government to revitalize the economy. Accumulations of wealth, acquired thereafter from everywhere outside the region, have culminated in the formation of the present-day industrial cluster in Toyama, the largest in the whole area facing the Sea of Japan. Today an adaptation of the quasi-CRM (customer relationship management) business model of the HML system has proved to be a success in Mongolia. This fact seems to offer the authors some clues for dealing with those problems that healthcare and medical services in Japan and elsewhere are riddled with. In this paper, focusing on the common critical success factors (CSFs) behind the success of the authors' prototype HML system and its recent successful application in Mongolia, the authors will analyze these factors from the perspective of CRM. The authors will then clarify the following: (1) the usefulness of the business model for ensuring primary healthcare for people in developing countries; (2) the usefulness in our ubiquitous network society of applying ICT to the HML system; (3) possible contributions that the use of the system can make toward improving the quality of our everyday healthcare and medical services in our prominently aging society; and the authors will also suggest (4) the importance of elevating "individual self-medication" to "community-based self-medication". 展开更多

Social media has become an inevitable part of our lives in the age of network society. People establish multiple identities for themselves, with or without references to the real world, and behave according to those identities. Self-made components of virtual presence are not limited to identities only; many users also create hyper-personalities for themselves with the help of new technologies. Then, the fundamental question becomes: Why do people create self-made identities and hyper-personalities to portray or hide themselves in social media environments? The answer to this question has certain connections and implications for behaviors of social media users. Therefore, researchers have investigated why some people find social media attractive and attend whenever possible, while others are afraid of social media and hesitate to attend. Positive and negative behaviors of social media users can be classified as braggadocian and preventative. Braggadocian behaviors are related to courageously taking advantage of social media, whereas preventative behaviors are concerned with avoidance of social media. The dominant behavioral pattern of a user depends on what one can achieve through attending or preventing social media. This paper first discusses basic elements of human behavior that drive social media such as altruism, hedonism, connectionism, homophily, multiple identities, memetics, narcissism, and tribalism. Then, it focuses on precautionary elements of human behavior such as avoidance, escape, blocking, fear, hiding, removal, and protectionism. Whether they are attentive or not, one thing is clear: People refrain or enrich their own lives in social media rather than being abused or watching others in industrial media. 展开更多

Both opportunities and challenges are currently faced by government management innovation in the age of "big data". Traditionally, relative studies view the management of governments as the effective means to improve governmental services, without really understanding the structural influence of big data and network technology on governmental mode of thinking. Against such backdrop, this paper tries to conduct critical analysis based upon traditional outcomes in this regard, trying to make full use of the function of big data technology. With these efforts, this paper contributes to the building of an interaction theory that could promote transparency of information and customization and segmentation of the policies. By constructing a mode in which management could be carried out based on the law of big data, by building an information management system in which balance could be achieved between responsibility and freedom, by promoting the rebalancing among public power, online civil society and civil rights, the innovation of governmental management would be achieved. 展开更多
