The effectiveness of the proposed emulators is shown through two simulation examples. The obtained results are very satisfactory, they illustrate the performance of both emulators and show the advantages of the multimodel emulator relatively to the neural one.展开更多

The controller parameterizations are calculated from algebraic equations which are solved by using the Kronecker product of matrices. It is pointed out that the sampling periods can be selected in a convenient way for the solvability of such equations under rather weak conditions provided that the continuous plant is spectrally controllable. A multivariable regression(MVR) approach is proposed to identify the real power transfer between generators and loads.Based on solved load flow results,it first uses modified nodal equation method(MNE) to determine re...A multivariable regression(MVR) approach is proposed to identify the real power transfer between generators and loads.Based on solved load flow results,it first uses modified nodal equation method(MNE) to determine real power contribution from each generator to loads.Then,the results of MNE method and load flow information are utilized to determine suitable regression coefficients using MVR model to estimate the power transfer.The 25-bus equivalent system of south Malaysia is utilized as a test system to illustrate the effectiveness of the MVR output compared to that of the MNE method.The error of the estimate of MVR method ranges from 0.001 4 to 0.007 9.Furthermore,when compared to MNE method,MVR method computes generator contribution to loads within 26.40 ms whereas the MNE method takes 360 ms for the calculation of same real power transfer allocation.Therefore,MVR method is more suitable for real time power transfer allocation.展开更多

Since mathe...This paper describes empirical research on the model, optimization and supervisory control of beer fermentation.Conditions in the laboratory were made as similar as possible to brewery industry conditions. Since mathematical models that consider realistic industrial conditions were not available, a new mathematical model design involving industrial conditions was first developed. Batch fermentations are multiobjective dynamic processes that must be guided along optimal paths to obtain good results.The paper describes a direct way to apply a Pareto set approach with multiobjective evolutionary algorithms (MOEAs).Successful finding of optimal ways to drive these processes were reported.Once obtained, the mathematical fermentation model was used to optimize the fermentation process by using an intelligent control based on certain rules.展开更多

The presented design approach is based on the application of descriptor model transformation and Park's inequality for the bounding of cross terms and is expected to be less conservative compared to reported design methods. In this paper, a geometric approach to fault detection and isolation (FDI) is applied to a Multiple-Input Multipie-Output (MIMO) model of a frame and the FDI results are compared to the ones obtained in the Single...In this paper, a geometric approach to fault detection and isolation (FDI) is applied to a Multiple-Input Multipie-Output (MIMO) model of a frame and the FDI results are compared to the ones obtained in the Single-Input Single-Output (SISO), Multiple-Input Single-Output (MISO), and Single-Input Multiple-Output (SIMO) cases. A proper distance function based on parameters obtained from parametric system identification method is used in the geometric approach. ARX (Auto Regressive with exogenous input) and VARX (Vector ARX) models with 12 parameters are used in all of the above-mentioned models. The obtained results reveal that by increasing the number of inputs, the classification errors reduce, even in the case of applying only one of the inputs in the computations. Furthermore, increasing the number of measured outputs in the FDI scheme results in decreasing classification errors. Also, it is shown that by using probabilistic space in the distance function, fault diagnosis scheme has better performance in comparison with the deterministic one.展开更多
The paper deals with the g2-stability analysis of multi-input-multi-output(MIMO)systems,governed by integral equations,with a matrix of periodic/aperiodic time-varying gains and a vector of monotone,non-monotone and q...The paper deals with the g2-stability analysis of multi-input-multi-output(MIMO)systems,governed by integral equations,with a matrix of periodic/aperiodic time-varying gains and a vector of monotone,non-monotone and quasi-monotone nonlin-earities.For nonlinear MIMO systems that are described by differential equations,most of the literature on stability is based on an application of quadratic forms as Lyapunov-function candidates.In contrast,a non-Lyapunov framework is employed here to derive new and more general g2-stability conditions in the frequency domain.These conditions have the following features:i)They are expressed in terms of the positive definiteness of the real part of matrices involving the transfer function of the linear time-invariant block and a matrix multiplier function that incorporates the minimax properties of the time-varying linear/nonlinear block,ii)For certain cases of the periodic time-varying gain,they contain,depending on the multiplier function chosen,no restrictions on the normalized rate of variation of the time-varying gain,but,for other periodic/aperiodic time-varying gains,they do.Overall,even when specialized to periodic-coefficient linear and nonlinear MIMO systems,the stability conditions are distinct from and less restrictive than recent results in the literature.No comparable results exist in the literature for aperiodic time-varying gains.Furthermore,some new stability results concerning the dwell-time problem and time-varying gain switching in linear and nonlinear MIMO systems with periodic/aperiodic matrix gains are also presented.Examples are given to illustrate a few of the stability theorems.展开更多

As a conseq...The low level of agricultural productivity within the production systems in the insular region of Galapagos is caused by the lack of sustainable technologies accordingly to the insular conservation regime. As a consequence, producers face low productivity and economic losses, which result in low levels of incomes and hasten the change from agricultural to tourist activities. With consequent abandonment of productive lands, the presence of invasive species and pathogens has become a growing threat to the biodiversity of the Galapagos National Park. For this reason, it is necessary to generate and disseminate technologies adapted to the prevalent production systems in the islands. Primary data were collected through face-to-face surveys in a sample of 208 producers from 4 islands during the period from July to November 2018. Multivariate analyses (principal components and cluster) were applied to characterize and classify typical agricultural production systems. The results show three types of systems, differentiated mainly by the technology used in the management of agricultural production, that influence the yields of crops and of animal products such as beef and milk, which cannot satisfy the demand for food on the islands, which has created the dependence on imports to cover the production gap. The definition of the types of agricultural production systems can help in identifying sustainable production alternatives that integrate local social and environmental needs. This is one of the very few technical descriptions of farms on the islands and should be used by policymakers to plan interventions.展开更多

To illustrate the type of results which can be obtained using the new optimized decentralized control design method, the control of a large flexible space structure is studied and compared with the standard centralized LQR-observer controller. The order of the resultant decentralized controller is much smaller than that of the standard centralized LQR-observer controller. The proposed controller also has certain fail-safe properties and, in addition, it can be five orders of magnitude more robust than the standard LQR-observer controller based on their real stability radii. The new decentralized controller design method is applied to a large flexible space structure system with 5 inputs and 5 outputs and of order 24.展开更多

The reliability or the reliability bound of a network can be conveniently expressed as the summation of the joint probabilities of these paths. Under the multivariate normal distribution assumption, a conditioned reliability index method is developed to evaluate joint probabilities of various exclusive safe paths and failed paths, and, finally, the seismic reliability or the reliability bound of an electric power system. Examples given in the paper show that the method is very simple and provides accurate results in the seismic reliability analysis.展开更多
