Dear Editor,In this letter,several novel controllability results for a class of linear switched and impulsive systems are established.Different from the developed controllability conditions in most existing literature,the important role of switched and impulsive time sequence is considered.Applying the relevant geometric theory of matrix,a necessary and sufficient criterion for the controllability is firstly developed to judge when the controllability of such systems is affected by switched and impulsive time sequence.Furthermore,we further obtain a sufficient controllability condition that can be used to verify the controllability of such systems regardless of the switched and impulsive time sequence.Finally,a numerical example is given to verify the obtained theoretical results. 展开更多

Switched systems play an imperative role in modeling many real industrial systems with abrupt changes.Due to possible exposure to unreliable and complex physical environments,switching dynamics may simultaneously face multiple faults,including the unexpected controller disconnect,the temporary mismatch between subsystems and desired corresponding controllers,and the intermittent disordering of mode transitions.These commonly arising faults may result in severe and detrimental impacts on the reliability and convergence of the closed-loop solution,thereby bringing significant yet challenging issues to be tackled.This paper provides the first attempt to investigate the stabilization problem for a class of constrained switched linear systems with multiple faults under mode-dependent dwell time(MDT).From a set-theory perspective,we demonstrate a critical necessary and sufficient stability condition for switched systems without uncertainties.Moreover,the non-conservative stability criterion is further extended to the perturbed switched systems with rigorous proof.A switching communication network example verifies the validity of the theoretical result and demonstrates their advantages. 展开更多

On the exponential stability and instability analyses of switched second-and higher-order linear systems via a novel application of differential inequalities:part 1(theory)

Differential inequalities generated in an extended Lyapunov framework are employed in the stability and instability analyses of a class of switched continuous-time second-and higher order linear systems with an arbitrary number of switching matrices.The exponential stability and instability(ESI)conditions so obtained involve the supremum and infimum of ratios of certain quadratic forms of the matrices,leading to global time-averages of their activity intervals.Further,motivated by linear switching system examples of(i)instability with stable matrices and(ii)stability with unstable matrices(found in the literature primarily for second-order systems),the proposed framework is generalized to establish ESI conditions that include both the activity intervals of the matrices and their switching rates,the latter being governed by a certain logarithmic measure of the normalized magnitudes of discontinuities caused by switching.In effect,(the new,globally averaged)dwell-time is flexibly traded,apparently for the first time,but under specific conditions(related,in part,to the eigenvalues of the matrices),for switching discontinuity-based conditions.Two further novel aspects of the proposed approach are:(i)For second-order matrices,switching lines in phase space can be chosen for periodic switching to stabilize or destabilize the system,and even generate oscillations,depending on the eigenvalues of the system matrices.But for third-(and higher)order matrices,such an analytically tractable(and controlled)periodical switching entails solution of an explicit non-convex multi-parameter optimization problem for which a stochastic optimization algorithm from the literature can be invoked.(ii)Lower and upper bounds on the solutions of the system equations can be quantified to reflect the stability/instability/oscillatory property of the system.Illustrative examples,which demonstrate the novelty of the derived stability and instability conditions,are presented in part 2 which is advisedly to be read along with this part 1 for a coherent merging of theory with practice. 展开更多

This paper addresses an infinite horizon distributed H2/H∞ filtering for discrete-time systems under conditions of bounded power and white stochastic signals. The filter algorithm is designed by computing a pair of gains namely the estimator and the coupling. Herein, we implement a filter to estimate unknown parameters such that the closed-loop multi-sensor accomplishes the desired performances of the proposed H2 and H∞ schemes over a finite horizon. A switched strategy is implemented to switch between the states once the operation conditions have changed due to disturbances. It is shown that the stability of the overall filtering-error system with H2/H∞ performance can be established if a piecewise-quadratic Lyapunov function is properly constructed. A simulation example is given to show the effectiveness of the proposed approach. 展开更多

The parameter uncertainty is assumed to be norm-bounded. First, by using the switched Lyapunov function approach, some new sufficient conditions ensuring the nominal discrete-time SLS system to be regular, casual and asymptotically stable for arbitrary switching laws are derived in terms of linear matrix inequalities. Then, the robust admissibility condition for the uncertain discrete-time SLS systems is presented. The obtained results can be viewed as an extension of previous works on the switched Lyapunov function approach from the regular switched linear systems to the switched linear singular cases. Numerical examples show the reduced conservatism and effectiveness of the proposed conditions. 展开更多

An adaptive robust attitude tracking control law based on switched nonlinear systems is presented for a variable structure near space vehicle (VSNSV) in the presence of uncertainties and disturbances. The adaptive fuzzy systems are employed for approximating unknown functions in the flight dynamic model and their parameters are updated online. To improve the flight robust performance, robust controllers with adaptive gains are designed to compensate for the approximation errors and thus they have less design conservation. Moreover, a systematic procedure is developed for the synthesis of adaptive fuzzy dynamic surface control (DSC) approach. According to the common Lyapunov function theory, it is proved that all signals of the closed-loop system are uniformly ultimately bounded by the continuous controller. The simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness and robustness of the proposed control scheme. 展开更多

This article investigates the time-varying output group formation tracking control(GFTC)problem for heterogeneous multi-agent systems(HMASs)under switching topologies.The objective is to design a distributed control strategy that enables the outputs of the followers to form the desired sub-formations and track the outputs of the leader in each subgroup.Firstly,novel distributed observers are developed to estimate the states of the leaders under switching topologies.Then,GFTC protocols are designed based on the proposed observers.It is shown that with the distributed protocol,the GFTC problem for HMASs under switching topologies is solved if the average dwell time associated with the switching topologies is larger than a fixed threshold.Finally,an example is provided to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed control strategy. 展开更多

By using the switched Lyapunov function approach, some new sufficient conditions under which the SLS system is admissible for arbitrary switching laws are derived in terms of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). Based on the admissibility results, control synthesis is then to design switched state feedback and static output feedback controllers, guaranteeing that the resulting closed-loop system is admissible. The presented results can be viewed as the extensions of previous works on switched Lyapunov function approach from the regular switched systems to singular switched cases. Examples are provided to demonstrate the reduced conservatism and effectiveness of the proposed conditions. 展开更多

This paper investigates L2-gain analysis and anti-windup compensation gains design for a class of discrete-time switched systems with saturating actuators and L2 bounded disturbances by using the switched Lyapunov function approach.For a given set of anti-windup compensation gains,we firstly give a sufficient condition on tolerable disturbances under which the state trajectory starting from the origin will remain inside a bounded set for the corresponding closed-loop switched system subject to L2 bounded disturbances.Then,the upper bound on the restricted L2-gain is obtained over the set of tolerable disturbances.Furthermore,the antiwindup compensation gains aiming to determine the largest disturbance tolerance level and the smallest upper bound of the restricted L2-gain are presented by solving a convex optimization problem with linear matrix inequality(LMI) constraints.A numerical example is given to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed design method. 展开更多

The merit of our proposed approach is that the behavior of the NCSs can be studied by considering switched system without augmenting the system.
