T-joint titanium alloy structures are commonly used in aircraft manufacturing,and their laser welding process is relatively mature,but due to the strict requirements of the airplane production,the angular deformation caused by uneven heat input across the sheet is still not negligible,so active control needs to be imposed.In this paper,an active deformation control method based on programmable multi-point flexible support is proposed and validated.In response to the problem that the traditional rigid clamping and pre-stressing are not adapted to the T-structure thin sheet,this study has designed a multi-point flexible support with microcontroller and electric actuators,which can monitor the stress state of the current support position in real time during the welding process and make dynamic adjustment,so that the weld deformation could be effectively reduced in this way. 展开更多

Comparative impacts of fixed vs.flexible photovoltaic supports on near-surface features in karst landforms

Fixed supports(rigid structures)and flexible supports(tensioned cable systems)are two main methods used in constructing photovoltaic power plants,and their construction technology has significant differences.This comparative study assessed their environmental impacts on near-surface characteristics during constructing photovoltaic power plants in karst mountainous regions.Our findings revealed significant but different surface disturbances between these installation approaches.While both systems caused terrain modifications through foundation works and access road construction,the fixed support completely disturbed 100%of the construction area compared to<30%disturbance from flexible supports.Compared with the original ground,fixed support caused approximately 22%increase in bedrock exposure rate,while decreased 5%for the flexible support.Additionally,only 17%of the original vegetation coverage remained for the fixed support after construction,compared to 53%for the flexible support.The lower bedrock exposure rate and higher vegetation coverage of flexible support indicated that it had less surface disturbance area than fixed support.These results suggested that in ecologically sensitive karst terrains characterized by severe rocky desertification,challenging revegetation conditions,and low land productivity,flexible support photovoltaic technology represented a significantly less disruptive technology for minimizing surface disturbance and preserving fragile mountain ecosystems. 展开更多

Planet gear systems(PGSs)are key components of transmission mechanisms.Structural and material characteristics of gearbox and shaft can affect the support stiffness and vibrations of PGSs.The ring gear flexibility should affect the vibrations of PGSs too.However,most previous work did not completely consider the effects of the ring gear flexibility on the vibrations of PGSs and flexible supports of ring and sun gears.Thus,this paper presents a flexible-rigid coupling multi-body dynamic(FMBD)model for a PGS with the flexible supports and ring gear flexibility.A finite element model of ring gear is established to formulate the ring gear flexibility.The influences of clearance and damping of planet bearings on the vibrations of PGS are considered.The effects of flexible supports and ring gear flexibility on the vibrations of PGS under different moment and speed conditions are studied.The statistical parameters and peak frequencies of PGS from the proposed FMBD and previous rigid multi-body dynamic(RMBD)models are compared.The results denote that the flexible support has a great effect on the vibrations of PGS.This paper can provide some guidance for the support structure design and vibration control for PGSs. 展开更多

To figure out the load distribution of thin-section rolling bearing supported by flexible structure with squirrel cage and the distribution's influence on bearing life,an iterative FEA method is proposed to use the result calculated from the Quasi-Dynamic model based on the rigid support hypothesis. The contact angle,contact position and stiffness of equivalent spring are modified during the iterative FEA to optimize the FEA model,and then the bearings' life can be predicted when the error is below 0.5%. It can be concluded that from the analysis results the load distribution under flexible support is more uniform than that of the rigid support,while the maximum load decreases by 11.2% and bearing life increases by 14.7%. The analysis result of different values of thickness of bearing house,rings and hollow shaft demonstrates the thicknesses of bearing house and hollow shaft have a greater influence on the load's uniformity and bearing's life than those of the rings. 展开更多

A multi-point flexible straightening process characterized by reciprocating bending is proposed.Specifically,the process is analyzed in terms of deformation mechanism and verified by numerical simulations and physical experiments of the straightening of a series of metal profiles with different materials and initial shapes.Further,the relationship between the bending radius and the times of reciprocating bending required to unify the curvature is discussed,and the distribution of residual stress after straightening is analyzed.The results show that the reciprocating bending process can eliminate the difference of the initial curvature,make the curvature of each section tend to be uniform;the times of reciprocating bending to reach the uniform curvature decreases with the decrease of bending radius.The straightness of the straightened profile obtained from the experiment and simulation is less than 0.2%,demonstrating a good feasibility of this method. 展开更多

Voltage sags in power system may lead to serious problems such as the off-grid of distributed generation and electrical equipment failures.As a novel type of power electronic equipment,a flexible multi-state switch(FMSS)is capable to support the voltage during the grid faults.In this paper,a voltage control strategy to support the voltage in a distribution network is proposed by introducing three-port FMSS.The positive-negative-sequence compensation(PNSC)scheme is adopted to control the active and reactive current.This control scheme eliminates active power oscillations at the port of voltage sags and reduces coupling oscillations of other ports.Based on the characteristics of the voltage support under PNSC scheme,two voltage support strategies are proposed.A proportional-integral controller is introduced to provide the reactive power references,which eliminates the errors when estimating the grid voltage and impedance.A current limiting scheme is adopted to keep the port current in a safe range by adjusting the active and reactive power references.The voltage support strategies in two different voltage sags are simulated,and results show the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed control strategies. 展开更多

Taking a three-cable flexible photovoltaic(PV)support structure as the research subject,a finite element model was established.Utilizing a full-order flutter analysis method,the flutter critical wind speed and flutter frequency of the flexible PV support structure at a tilt angle of 0°were calculated.The results showed good agreement with wind tunnel test data.Further analysis examined the pretension effects in the load-bearing and stabilizing cables on the natural frequency and flutter critical wind speed of the flexible PV support structure.The research findings indicate increasing the pretension in the load-bearing cables significantly raises the natural frequencies of the first four modes.Specifically,as the pretension in the load-bearing cables increases from 22 to 102 kN,the flutter critical wind speed rises from 17.1 to 21.6 m/s.By contrast,the pretension in the stabilizing cable has a smaller effect on the natural frequency and flutter critical wind speed of the flexible PV support structure.When the pretension in the stabilizing cable increased from 22 to 102 kN,the flutter critical wind speed increased from 17.1 to 17.7 m/s.For wind-resistant design of flexible PV support structures,it is recommended to prioritize increasing the pretension in the load-bearing cables to enhance the structural flutter performance. 展开更多

This paper describes a simulation-based intelligent decision support system (IDSS) for real time control of a flexible manufacturing system (FMS) with machine and tool flexibility. The manufacturing processes involved in FMS are complicated since each operation may be done by several machining centers. The system design approach is built around the theory of dynamic supervisory control based on a rule-based expert system. The paper considers flexibility in operation assignment and scheduling of multi-purpose machining centers which have different tools with their own efficiency. The architecture of the proposed controller consists of a simulator module coordinated with an IDSS via a real time event handler for implementing inter-process synchronization. In order to meet the urgent need for diversified and multi-functional deployable antennas in many major national aerospace projects,such as interstellar exploration,the fourth phase of lunar exploration project,and the industrial application of Bei Dou,a deployable antenna structure composed of hexagonal prism and pentagonal prism modules is proposed.Firstly,the arrangement and combination rules of pentagonal prism and hexagonal prism modules on the plane were analyzed.Secondly,the spatial geometric model of the deployable antenna composed of pentagonal prism and hexagonal prism modules was established.The influence of module size on the antenna shape was then analyzed,and the kinematic model of the deployable antenna established by coordinate transformation.Finally,the above model was verified using MATLAB software.The simulation results showed that the proposed modular deployable antenna structure can realize accurate connection between modules,complete the expected deployment and folding functional requirements.It is hoped that this research can provide reference for the basic research and engineering application of deployable antennas in China. 展开更多

Bearing support position is one of main factors affecting vibration characteristics of rotor systems. To optimize the bearing support positions in a high-speed flexible rotor system (HSFRS) based on the vibration characteristics, an optimization method of bearing support positions in the HSFRS is proposed. In this method, a finite element (FE) model of a high-speed flexible rotor (HSFR) was established. The natural frequencies and mode shapes of the HSFRS were used to obtain the initial design scheme of the bearing support positions. A frequency characteristic equation of the HSFRS was established to obtain the critical speeds of the HSFRS. And a dynamic model of the HSFRS was established to analyze the vibration characteristics for different bearing support position cases. The problem of optimizing bearing support positions in the HSFRS was solved by the developed method. The results showed that vibration amplitudes of the HSFRS were more stable when the bearing support positions were optimized. This study can provide a new method for optimizing bearing support positions of rotor systems. 展开更多

In a fusion reactor, the edge localized mode(ELM) coil has a mitigating effect on the ELMs of the plasma. The coil is placed close to the plasma between the vacuum vessel and the blanket to reduce its design power and improve its mitigating ability. The coil works in a high-temperature,high-nuclear-heat and high-magnetic-field environment. Due to the existence of outer superconducting coils, the coil is subjected to an alternating electromagnetic force induced by its own alternating current and the outer magnetic field. The design goal for the ELM coil is to maintain its structural integrity in the multi-physical field. Taking as an example the middle ELM coil(with flexible supports) of ITER(the International Thermonuclear Fusion Reactor), an electromagnetic–thermal–structural coupling analysis is carried out using ANSYS. The results show that the flexible supports help the three-layer casing meet the static and fatigue design requirements. The structural design of the middle ELM coil is reasonable and feasible. The work described in this paper provides the theoretical basis and method for ELM coil design. 展开更多

However, during the positioning of workpieces, the force exerted on each flexible support point is not uniform, and there exists force coupling between the support units. In response to the force coupling problem in the multi-point array positioning support process, a coordinated control method for the support force of multi-point array positioning combining correlation coefficient and regression analysis was proposed in this paper. The Spearman correlation coefficient was adopted in this method to study the force coupling correlation between positioning points, and a mathematical model of force coupling was established between positioning units through regression analysis, which can quickly and accurately perform coordinated control of the multilateration support system, and effectively improve the force interference of the multi-point array positioning support scene. 展开更多

Multi-point forming (MPF) is an advanced manufacturing technology for three-dimensional sheet metal parts. In this paper, the MPF integrated system is described that can form a variety of part shapes without the need for solid dies, and given only geometry and material information about the desired part. The central component of this system is a pair of matrices of punches, and the desired discrete die surface is constructed by changing the positions of punches though the CAD and control system. The basic MPF process is introduced and the typical application examples show the applicability of the MPF technology. Wrinkle and dimple are the major forming defects in MPF process, numerical simulation is a feasible way to predict forming defects in MPF. In conventional stamping, the mode to form sheet metal with blankholder is an effective way to suppress wrinkling; the same is true in MPF. A MPF press with flexible blankholder was developed, and the forming results indicated the forming stability of this technique. Based on the flexibility of MPF, varying deformation path MPF and sectional MPF were explored that cannot be realized in conventional stamping. By controlling each punch in real-time, a sheet part can be manufactured along a specific forming path. When the path of deformation in MPF is designed properly, forming defects will be avoided completely and lager deformation is achieved. A work piece can be formed section by section though the sectional MPF, and this technique makes it possible to manufacture large size parts in a small MPF press. Some critical experiments were performed that confirmed the validity of two special MPF techniques. 展开更多

The interaction of surrounding rock with a support system in deep underground tunnels has attracted extensive interest from researchers.However,the effect of high axial stress on tunnel stability has not been fully considered.In this study,compression tests with and without confining pressure were conducted on solid specimens and hollow cylinder specimens filled with aluminium,lead,and polymethyl methacrylate(PMMA)to investigate the strength,deformation and failure characteristics of circular roadways subjected to high axial stress.The influence of the three-dimensional stress on the surrounding rock supported with different stiffness was studied.The results indicate that the strength and peak strain of hollow cylinders filled with PMMA are higher than those of hollow cylinders filled with aluminium or lead,indicating that flexible retaining is beneficial for roadway stability.The results obtained in this paper can contribute to better understanding the support failure of a buried roadway subjected to high axial stress and thus to analyzing and evaluating roadway stability. 展开更多
