We first introduce the differences in three environments—surface, mountain tunnel cavities and underground coal mine tunnels—by examining cosmic ray background, ambient noises related to gravity and seismic measurement, and electromagnetic noises in magnetic and magnetotelluric measurements. We highlight potential misuse of the term Underground Lab or Deep Underground Lab when describing observations in different physical fields. We introduce unique features of underground coal mine tunnels in China, such as large spaces, ultra-quiet conditions, and ultra-clean environments. When comparing with mountain tunnel cavities and borehole observations, coal mine tunnel observations have superior long-term stability and high precision. Through observations and comparisons of multi-physic fields at surface and the deep underground, we find that the higher SNR seismic observations conducted in deep underground tunnels in coal mines are beneficial to improve velocity tomography of the solid earth. The gravity observation with a Superconducting Quantum Interference Device(SQUID) makes it possibly to capture slow earthquake, which has not been observed previously in the Chinese mainland. SQUID magnetic observations can detect fluctuations as weak as femto-Tesla(fT), enabling us to explore the attenuation of Schumann Resonance down to the solid Earth. This opens opportunities to investigate the connections between the Earth's magnetic field and the interactions within the human brain and heart. To improve the precision of quantum measurement,we should consider the possible effects of weak magnetic disturbances in deep underground environments. Finally, we discuss the importance of deep underground laboratories, observing facilities and techniques deployed in these laboratories, and their possible connection with respect to “deep space” and “deep ocean” exploration, emphasizing the need for focused research on various scientific challenges. We hope to encourage greater attention to deep underground laboratory and high-precision scientific observation.展开更多

文摘The rapid expansion of urban development has led to the extensive construction of civil infrastructures. However, these urban development zones frequently face potential geohazards, primarily due to the lack of detailed site investigations and long-term monitoring of subsurface geological conditions.Understanding the temporal and spatial distributions of underground multi-field information is vital for successful engineering construction and effective utilization of urban underground space. In this study,a fiber optic nerve system(FONS)was utilized in the Tianfu New Area,Sichuan Province,China,to obtain comprehensive subsurface multi-physical information, including geological deformation, temperature, and surface hydrological data. The FONS incorporates three advanced fiber optic sensing techniques,i.e.fiber Bragg grating(FBG),Brillouin optical time domain reflectometry(BOTDR),and Raman optical time domain reflectometry(ROTDR).Fully-and quasi-distributed strain/temperature sensing cables have been installed in nine monitoring boreholes, covering various geological features such as plains, terraces, and areas within active fault zones. The field monitoring results confirm the feasibility of employing FONS for geological investigations within urban development zones, offering a valuable reference for future applications of this cost-effective technology in geohazard mitigation.

文摘Laser powder bed fusion(LPBF)has revolutionized modern manufacturing by enabling high design freedom, rapid prototyping, and tailored mechanical properties. However, optimizing process parameters remains challenging due to the trial-and-error approaches required to capture subtle parameter-microstructure relationships. This study employed a multi-physics computational framework to investigate the melting and solidification dynamics of magnesium alloy.By integrating the discrete element method for powder bed generation, finite volume method with volume of fluid for melt pool behavior, and phase-field method for microstructural evolution, the critical physical phenomena, including powder melting, molten pool flow, and directional solidification were simulated. The effects of laser power and scanning speed on temperature distribution, melt pool geometry, and dendritic morphology were systematically analyzed. It was revealed that increasing laser power expanded melt pool dimensions and promoted columnar dendritic growth, while high scanning speeds reduced melt pool stability and refined dendritic structures.Furthermore,Marangoni convection and thermal gradients governed solute redistribution, with excessive energy input risking defects such as porosity and elemental evaporation. These insights establish quantitative correlations between process parameters, thermal history, and microstructural characteristics, providing a validated roadmap for LPBF-processed magnesium alloy with tailored performance.
文摘Conventional concentrator photovoltaics(CPV)face a persistent trade-off between high efficiency and high cost, driven by expensive multi-junction solar cells and complex active cooling systems. This study presents a computational investigation of a novel Multi-Focal Pyramidal Array(MFPA)-based CPV system designed to overcome this limitation. The MFPA architecture employs a geometrically optimized pyramidal concentrator to distribute concen-trated sunlight onto strategically placed,low-cost monocrystalline silicon cells, enabling high efficiency energy capture while passively managing thermal loads.Coupled optical thermal electrical simulations in COMSOL Multiphysics demonstrate a geometric concentration ratio of 120×,with system temperatures maintained below 110℃ under standard 1000 W/m2 Direct Normal Irradiance(DNI).Ray tracing confirms 95%optical efficiency and a concentrated light spot radius of 2.48 mm.Compared with conventional CPV designs, the MFPA improves power-per-cost by 25%and reduces tracking requirements by 50%owing to its wide±15°acceptance angle. These results highlight the MFPA’s potential as a scalable,low-cost,and energy-efficient pathway for expanding solar power generation.

文摘Background:The bacterial biofilm poses a significant challenge to traditional antibiotic therapy. There is a great need to develop novel antibiofilm agents combined with biofilm disrupting and bacteria-killing without the dependence of antibiotic. Methods:Herein,we prepared ultrasound/magnetic field-responsive ferroferric oxide nanoparticles(Fe_(3)O_(4))/glucose oxidase microbubbles(FGMB)to form a cascade catalytic system for effective removing methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus biofilms.FGMB were prepared through interfacial self-assembly of Fe_(3)O_(4) nanoparticles(NPs)and glucose oxidase(GOx)at the gas-liquid interface stabilized by surfactants.Under ultrasound/magnetic field stimulation,FGMB disrupted biofilm architecture through microbubble collapse-induced microjets and magnetically driven displacement.Simultaneously,ultrasound-triggered rupture of FGMB released GOx and Fe_(3)O_(4) NPs.Glucose can be oxidized by GOx to generate gluconic acid and hydrogen peroxide which was subsequently catalyzed into hydroxyl radicals by Fe_(3)O_(4) NPs,enabling chemical eradication of biofilm-embedded bacteria. Results:Optical microscopy images demonstrated that FGMB have spherical structure with average size of approximately 17μm.FGMB showed a 65.4%decrease in methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus biofilm biomass and 1.1 log bacterial inactivation efficiency(91.2%),suggesting effective biofilm elimination. In vitro experimental results also indicate that FGMB have good biocompatibility. Conclusion:This antibiofilm strategy integrated dual modes of physical biofilm disruption with chemical bacteria-killing shows great potential as a versatile,non-resistant strategy for bacterial biofilm elimination.

文摘Tilted metasurface nanostructures, with excellent physical properties and enormous application potential, pose an urgent need for manufacturing methods.Here,electric-field-driven generative-nanoimprinting technique is proposed. The electric field applied between the template and the substrate drives the contact, tilting, filling, and holding processes.By accurately controlling the introduced included angle between the flexible template and the substrate, tilted nanostructures with a controllable angle are imprinted onto the substrate, although they are vertical on the template.By flexibly adjusting the electric field intensity and the included angle,large-area uniform-tilted,gradient-tilted,and high-angle-tilted nanostructures are fabricated. In contrast to traditional replication, the morphology of the nanoimprinting structure is extended to customized control. This work provides a cost-effective,efficient,and versatile technology for the fabrication of various large-area tilted metasurface structures. As an illustration,a tilted nanograting with a high coupling efficiency is fabricated and integrated into augmented reality displays, demonstrating superior imaging quality.

文摘The latest generation of aero engines has set higher standards for thrust-to-weight ratio and energy conversion efficiency, making it imperative to address the challenge of efficiently and accurately machining film cooling holes. It has been demonstrated that conventional long-pulse lasers are incapable of meeting the elevated quality surface finish requirements for these holes,a consequence of the severe thermal defects. The employment of backside water-assisted laser drilling technology confers a number of distinct advantages in terms of mitigating laser thermal damage, thus representing a highly promising solution to this challenge. However, significant accumulation of bubbles and machining products during the backside water-assisted laser drilling process has been demonstrated to have a detrimental effect on laser transmission and machining stability, thereby reducing machining quality. In order to surmount these challenges,a novel method has been proposed, namely an ultrasonic shock water flow-assisted picosecond laser drilling technique.Numerical models for ultrasonic acoustic streaming and particle tracking for machining product transport have been established to investigate the mechanism. The simulation results demonstrated that the majority of the machining products could rapidly move away from the machining area because of the action of acoustic streaming, thereby avoiding the accumulation of bubbles and products.Subsequent analysis, comparing the process performance in micro-hole machining, confirmed that the ultrasonic field could effectively eliminate bubble and chip accumulation, thus significantly improving micro-hole quality.Furthermore, the impact of ultrasonic and laser parameters on micro-hole quality under varying machining methods was thoroughly investigated. The findings demonstrated that the novel methodology outlined in this study yielded superior-quality micro-holes at elevated ultrasonic and laser power levels,in conjunction with reduced laser frequency and scanning velocity. The taper of the micro-holes produced by the new method was reduced by more than 25%compared with the other conventional methods.

文摘Peroxymonosulfate(PMS)-based advanced oxidation processes(AOPs)are an effective way to remove emerging contaminants(ECs)from water. The catalytic process involving PMS is hindered by the suboptimal electron trans-fer efficiency of current catalysts, the further application of AOPs technology is limited. Here,it is proposed that the interfacial electric field can be controlled by bor(B)-doped FeNC catalysts, which shows significant advantages in the efficient generation, release and participation of reactive oxygen species(ROS)in the reaction. The super exchange interaction between Fe sites and N and B sites is realized through the directional transfer of electrons in the interfacial electric field, which ensures the high efficiency and stability of the PMS catalytic process.B doping increases the d orbitals distribution at Fermi level, which facilitates enhanced electron transition activity, thereby promoting the effective generation of (1)^O_(2).At the same time, orbital hybridization causes the center of the d band to move to a lower energy level, which not only contributes to the desorption process of (1)^O_(2),but also accelerates its release. In addition,B-doping also improved the adsorption capacity of organic pollutants and shortened the migration distance of ROS,thereby significantly improving the degradation efficiency of ECs.The B-doping strategy outlined offers a novel approach to the development of FeNC catalysts,it lays a theoretical foundation and offers technical insights for the integration of PMS/AOPs technology in the ECs management.

文摘Repolarizing tumor-associated macrophages(TAMs)toward the proinflammatory M1 phenotype represents a promising strategy to reverse the immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment(TME)and enhance antitumor immunotherapy.Recent studies have demonstrated that exogenous electrical stimulation can effectively repolarize TAMs toward the M1 phenotype. However, conventional electrical stimulation methods, relying on invasive implanted electrodes, are restricted to targeting localized tumor regions and pose inherent risks to patients.Notably, biological neural networks, distributed systems of interconnected neurons, can naturally permeate tissues and orchestrate cellular activities with high spatial efficiency.Inspired by this natural system,we developed a global in situ electric field network using piezoelectric BaTiO_(3)nanoparticles.Upon ultrasound stimulation, the nanoparticles generate a wireless electric field throughout the TME.In addtion, their nanoscale size enables them to function as synthetic“neurons”,allowing for uniform penetration throughout the tumor tissue and inducing significant repolarization of TAMs via the Ca^(2+)influx-activated nuclear factor-kappa B(NF-κB)signaling pathway. The repolarized M1 TAMs restore anti-tumor immunostimulatory functions and secrete key proinflammatory cytokines(e.g.,tumor necrosis factor-alpha(TNF-α)and interleukin-1 beta(IL-1β)),which enhance immunostimulation within the TME and directly contribute to tumor cell elimination.Remarkably, this strategy achieved robust in vivo tumor growth inhibition with excellent biosafety in a 4T1 breast tumor model.Overall, this work establishes a non-invasive,wireless electric field platform capable of globally repolarizing TAMs,offering a safe and efficient strategy to advance cancer immunotherapy and accelerate the clinical translation of bioelectronic therapies.

文摘A transient multi-physics model incorporated with an electromagneto-thermomechanical coupling is developed to capture the multi-field behavior of a single-pancake(SP)insert no-insulation(NI)coil in a hybrid magnet during the charging and discharging processes. The coupled problem is resolved by means of the finite element method(FEM)for the magneto-thermo-elastic behaviors and the Runge-Kutta method for the transient responses of the electrical circuits of the hybrid superconducting magnet system. The results reveal that the transient multi-physics responses of the insert NI coil primarily depend on the charging/discharging procedure of the hybrid magnet. Moreover,a reverse azimuthal current and a compressive hoop stress are induced in the insert NI coil during the charging process, while a forward azimuthal current and a tensile hoop stress are observed during the discharging process. The induced voltages in the insert NI coil can drive the currents flowing across the radial turns where the contact resistance exists. Therefore,it brings forth significant Joule heat, causing a temperature rise and a uniform distribution of this heat in the coil turns.Accordingly,a thermally/mechanically unstable or quenching event may be encountered when a high operating current is flowing in the insert NI coil.It is numerically predicted that a quick charging will induce a compressive hoop stress which may bring a risk of buckling instability in the coil, while a discharging will not.The simulations provide an insight of hybrid superconducting magnets under transient start-up or shutdown phases which are inevitably encountered in practical applications.

文摘In this study,a multi-physics and multi-scale coupling program,Fluent/KMC-sub/NDK,was developed based on the user-defined functions(UDF)of Fluent,in which the KMC-sub-code is a sub-channel thermal-hydraulic code and the NDK code is a neutron diffusion code. The coupling program framework adopts the"master-slave"mode,in which Fluent is the master program while NDK and KMC-sub are coupled internally and compiled into the dynamic link library(DLL)as slave codes. The domain decomposition method was adopted,in which the reactor core was simulated by NDK and KMC-sub,while the rest of the primary loop was simulated using Fluent.A simulation of the reactor shutdown process of M2LFR-1000 was carried out using the coupling program, and the code-to-code verification was performed with ATHLET,demonstrating a good agreement, with absolute deviation was smaller than 0.2%.The results show an obvious thermal stratification phenomenon during the shutdown process, which occurs 10 s after shutdown, and the change in thermal stratification phenomena is also captured by the coupling program. At the same time, the change in the neutron flux density distribution of the reactor was also obtained.
