The following findings are obtained: SCI,B/SUC,B has an average value of about 0.5 with a variability of ± 0.1. This range agrees quite well with the values obtained by former research. For joint inclination angle, β=90°,B,UCB,CI,A,A/SSSS is found to be around 0.48 irrespective of the value of joint continuity factor, k. No particular relation is found betweenB,UCB,CI,A,A/SSSS and β; however, the average B,UCB,CI,A,A/SSSS seems to slightly decrease with increasing k. The variability ofB,UCB,CI,A,A/SSSS is found to increase with k.Based on the cases studied in this work,B,UCB,CI,A,A/SSSS ranges between 0.3 and 0.5. This range is quite close to the range of 0.4to 0.6 obtained for SCI,B/SUC,B. The highest variability of ± 0.12 forB,UCB,CI,A,A/SSSS is obtained for k=0.8. For the remaining k values the variability ofB,UCB,CI,A,A/SSSS can be expressed within ± 0.05. This finding is very similar to the finding obtained for the variability of SCI,B/SUC,B.展开更多

The predicti ons are validated against existing experimental measurements, and good agreement is achieved. It is demonstrated that honeycombs exhibit dual-level stress plateaus when bucklewaves are initiated and propagate in cell walls, followed by buckling and progressive folding of the cell walls. The abrupt stress drop from peak to crushing plateau in the compressive stress versus strain curve can be explained in a way similar to the quasi-static buckling of a clamped plate. The duration of the peak stress plateau is more evident for strain-rate insensitive honeycombs.展开更多

In this paper, we investigate the electrode electrochemical performance under stress conditions, where seven tensile/compressive stresses are designed and loaded on electrodes, thereby decoupling mechanics and electrochemistry through incremental stress loads. Four types of multi-group electrochemical tests under tensile/compressive stress loading and normal package loading are performed to quantitatively characterize the effects of tensile stress and compressive stress on cycle performance and the kinetic performance of a silicon composite electrode. Experiments show that a tensile stress improves the electrochemical performance of a silicon composite electrode, exhibiting increased specific capacity and capacity retention rate, reduced energy dissipation rate and impedances, enhanced reactivity, accelerated ion/electron migration and diffusion, and reduced polarization. Contrarily, a compressive stress has the opposite effect, inhibiting the electrochemical performance. The stress effect is nonlinear, and a more obvious suppression via compressive stress is observed than an enhancement via tensile stress. For example, a tensile stress of 675 k Pa increases diffusion coefficient by 32.5%, while a compressive stress reduces it by 35%. Based on the experimental results, the stress regulation mechanism is analyzed. Tensile stress loads increase the pores of the electrode material microstructure, providing more deformation spaces and ion/electron transport channels. This relieves contact compressive stress, strengthens diffusion/reaction, and reduces the degree of damage and energy dissipation. Thus, the essence of stress enhancement is that it improves and optimizes diffusion, reaction and stress in the microstructure of electrode material as well as their interactions via physical morphology.展开更多

The closing mode was established by analyzing the geometrical condition of closing crack, and the corresponding critical stress was solved. The result corrects the traditional viewpoint, in which there exist only open or close states for an elliptical crack, and points out that the local closing is also one of crack states. Based on them, the effect of the closed crack on stress intensity factor was discussed in detail, and its rational formulae are put forward.展开更多

Bent elongate grains grown epitactically from the host rock with abundant fluid inclusion trails parallel to the vein wall indicate vein formation by crack-seal increments during dissolutionprecipitation creep of the host rock. The presence of sutured high-angle grain boundaries and subgrains shows that temperatures were sufficiently high for recovery and strain-induced grain boundary migration, i.e. higher than 300 -350℃, close to peak metamorphic conditions. The generally low amount of strain accumulated by dislocation creep in quartz of the host rock and most veins indicates low bulk stress conditions of a few tens of MPa on a long term. The time scale of stress-loading to cause cyclic cracking and sealing is assumed to be lower than the Maxwell relaxation time of the metasediments undergoing dissolution-precipitation creep at high strain rates(10^(-10) s^(-1) to 10^(-9) s^(-1)), which is on the order of hundred years. In contrast, some veins discordant or concordant to the foliation show heterogeneous quartz microstructures with micro-shear zones, sub-basal deformation lamellae, shortwavelength undulatory extinction and recrystallized grains restricted to high strain zones. These microstructures indicate dislocation glide-controlled crystal-plastic deformation(low-temperature plasticity) at transient high stresses of a few hundred MPa with subsequent recovery and strain-induced grain boundary migration at relaxing stresses and temperatures of at least 300 -350℃. High differential stresses in rocks at greenschist-facies conditions that relieve stress by creep on the long term, requires fast stress-loading rates, presumably by seismic activity in the overlying upper crust. The time scale for stress loading is controlled by the duration of the slip event along a fault, i.e. a few seconds to minutes. This study demonstrates that microstructures can distinguish between deformation at internal low stress-loading rates(to tens of MPa on a time scale of hundred years) and high(coseismic) stress-loading rates to a few hundred MPa on a time scale of minutes.展开更多

The thermal conductivity of material is considered to be dependent on the temperature. In this paper, the thermal stresses response of the material is calculated rising a nonlinear finite element method. Emphasis is placed on the influence of temperature-dependent properties on the thermal stresses response characteristics, the thermal stresses relaxation property and the thermal stresses history under the different graded compositional distributions and different heat flux magnitudes. Through tile analysis. it is suggested that the influence of temperature-dependent properties can not be neglected In the thermal stresses response analysis and the optimum design process of the material must be based on the temperature-dependent thermo-elastic-plastic theory.展开更多

文摘The ratio of crack initiation stress to the uniaxial compressive strength(SCI,B/SUC,B) and the ratio of axial strain at the crack initiation stress to the axial strain at the uniaxial compressive strength(B,UCB,CI,A,A/SSSS) were studied by performing numerical stress analysis on blocks having multi flaws at close spacing's under uniaxial loading using PFC3 D. This finding is very similar to the finding obtained for the variability of SCI,B/SUC,B.

文摘Different components of deep-sea submersibles, such as the pressure hull, are usually subjected to intermittent loading, dwell loading, and unloading during service. Therefore, for the design and reliability assessment of structural parts under dwell fatigue loading, understanding the effects of intermittent loading time on dwell fatigue behavior of the alloys is essential. In this study, the effects of the intermittent loading time and stress ratio on dwell fatigue behavior of the titanium alloy Ti-6 Al-4 V ELI were investigated. Results suggest that the dwell fatigue failure modes of Ti-6 Al-4 V ELI can be classified into three types,i.e.,fatigue failure mode, ductile failure mode, and mixed failure mode. The intermittent loading time does not affect the dwell fatigue behavior, whereas the stress ratio significantly affects the dwell fatigue life and dwell fatigue mechanism. The dwell fatigue life increases with an increase in the stress ratio for the same maximum stress, and specimens with a negative stress ratio tend to undergo ductile failure. The mechanism of dwell fatigue of titanium alloys is attribute to an increase in the plastic strain caused by the part of the dwell loading, thereby resulting in an increase in the actual stress of the specimens during the subsequent loading cycles and aiding the growth of the formed crack or damage, along with the local plastic strain or damage induced by the part of the fatigue load promoting the cumulative plastic strain during the dwell fatigue process. The interaction between dwell loading and fatigue loading accelerates specimen failure,in contrast to the case for individual creep or fatigue loading alone. The dwell fatigue life and cumulative maximum strain during the first loading cycle could be correlated by a linear relationship on the log–log scale. This relationship can be used to evaluate the dwell fatigue life of Ti alloys with the maximum stress dwell.

文摘In order to study the effect of time lag and stress loading rates on rock deformation, the conventional stepped stress loading mode was changed into a continuous mode to investigate the effect of effective pressure on permeability and porosity. The time lag effect of rock deformation illustrating the relationship between changes in permeability and steady time was studied.Permeability reduction ratios were measured under different stress loading rates which were achieved by different pump rate settings. The results show that permeability and porosity gradually decrease with increases in effective pressure.Permeability at high effective pressure attains stability quickly.Steady times at low effective pressure are very long.Reduction in permeability at lower stress loading rates is small, while,in contrast,it is large at high stress loading rates.

文摘Rocks in underground works usually experience rather complex stress disturbance. For this, their fracture mechanism is significantly different from rocks subjected to conventional triaxial compression conditions. The effects of stress disturbances on rock geomechanical behaviors under fatigue loading conditions and triaxial unloading conditions have been reported in previous studies. However, little is known about the dependence of the unloading rate on fatigue loading and confining stress unloading(FL-CSU)conditions that influence rock failure. In this paper,we aimed at investigating the fracture behaviors of marble under FL-CSU conditions using the post-test X-ray computed tomography(CT)scanning technique and the GCTS RTR 2000 rock mechanics system. Results show that damage accumulation at the fatigue stage can influence the final fracture behaviors of marble. The stored elastic energy for rock samples under FL-CSU tests is relatively larger compared to those under conventional triaxial tests, and the dissipated energy used to drive damage evolution and crack propagation is larger for FL-CSU tests. In FL-CSU tests,as the unloading rate increases, the dissipated energy grows and elastic energy reduces.CT scanning after the test reveals the impacts of the unloading rate on the crack pattern and a fracture degree index is therein defined in this context to represent the crack dimension. It shows that the crack pattern after FL-CSU tests depends on the unloading rate, and the fracture degree is in agreement with the analysis of both the energy dissipation and the amount of energy released. The effect of unloading rate on fracture evolution characteristics of marble is revealed by a series of FL-CSU tests.

文摘Dual-level stress plateaus (i.e., relatively short peak stress plateaus, followed by prolonged crushing stress plateaus) in metallic hexagonal honeycombs subjected to out-of-plane impact loading are characterized using a combined numerical and analytical study, with the influence of the strain-rate sensitivity of the honeycomb pare nt material accounted for. The duration of the peak stress plateau is more evident for strain-rate insensitive honeycombs.

文摘Lithium-ion batteries suffer from mechano–electrochemical coupling problems that directly determine the battery life. Thus, the essence of stress enhancement is that it improves and optimizes diffusion, reaction and stress in the microstructure of electrode material as well as their interactions via physical morphology.

文摘Surrounding rocks at different locations are generally subjected to different stress paths during the process of deep hard rock excavation. In this study,to reveal the mechanical parameters of deep surrounding rock under different stress paths,a new cyclic loading and unloading test method for controlled true triaxial loading and unloading and principal stress direction interchange was proposed, and the evolution of mechanical parameters of Shuangjiangkou granite under different stress paths was studied, including the deformation modulus, elastic deformation increment ratios, fracture degree, cohesion and internal friction angle.Additionally, stress path coefficient was defined to characterize different stress paths, and the functional relationships among the stress path coefficient, rock fracture degree difference coefficient, cohesion and internal friction angle were obtained. The results show that during the true triaxial cyclic loading and unloading process, the deformation modulus and cohesion gradually decrease, while the internal friction angle gradually increases with increasing equivalent crack strain. The stress path coefficient is exponentially related to the rock fracture degree difference coefficient. As the stress path coefficient increases, the degrees of cohesion weakening and internal friction angle strengthening decrease linearly.During cyclic loading and unloading under true triaxial principal stress direction interchange, the direction of crack development changes, and the deformation modulus increases, while the cohesion and internal friction angle decrease slightly, indicating that the principal stress direction interchange has a strengthening effect on the surrounding rocks. Finally, the influences of the principal stress interchange direction on the stabilities of deep engineering excavation projects are discussed.

文摘Loess is susceptible to loading effects such as significant changes in strength and volume variation caused by loading and wetting. In this study, considering the different connection states of pore water and gas in loess fabric, the gas phase closure case is incorporated into a unified form of the generalized effective stress framework, introducing a damage parameter considering the effects of closed pore gas.The loading effects of unsaturated loess under wide variations in saturation are described in a unified way,and the model performance is verified by corresponding stress and hydraulic path tests. The results indicated that the collapse response involves the initial void ratio of loess, and the coupled outwards motion of the loading-collapse(LC)yield surface under loading enhances its structural strength.Suction-enhanced yield stress requires a greater"tensile stress"to counteract its structural stability. The nucleation of bubbles at high saturation causes a decrease in yield stress. The loading effect exhibits a smaller collapse behavior when the influence of closed gas is considered, whereas the suction path does not cross the LC in the stress space under hydraulic action for the same parameters, which amplifies the influence of closed gas on loess deformation.
文摘The solution of surface displacement of an elliptical crack under compressive-shear loading was obtained by using the complex function method. The closing mode was established by analyzing the geometrical condition of closing crack, and the corresponding critical stress was solved. The result corrects the traditional viewpoint, in which there exist only open or close states for an elliptical crack, and points out that the local closing is also one of crack states. Based on them, the effect of the closed crack on stress intensity factor was discussed in detail, and its rational formulae are put forward.

文摘In an extensional shear zone in the Talea Ori, Crete, quartz veins occur in high-pressure low-temperature metamorphic sediments at sites of dilation along shear band boundaries, kink band boundaries and boudin necks. This study demonstrates that microstructures can distinguish between deformation at internal low stress-loading rates(to tens of MPa on a time scale of hundred years) and high(coseismic) stress-loading rates to a few hundred MPa on a time scale of minutes.
文摘An experimental-numerical method for measuring dynamic crack propagatingvelocities under stress wave loading is established in this paper. The experiments of thethree-point bend specimen are done on the improved Hopkinson bar. Deflection of loading point, dynamic load and instantaneous crack length are measured, then crack propagating velocities arecalculated. Experiments on 40Cr steel show that the results given by this method have a goodagreement with that obtained by the resistance fracture gage method. Therefore this method isfeasible for measuring crack propagating velocities under high loading rate and will have wideapplication.

文摘The influence of temperature-dependent properties on thermal stresses response and optimum design of newly developed ceramic-metal functionally graded materials under cyclic thermal loaning and high temperature gradient environment is studied. Through tile analysis. it is suggested that the influence of temperature-dependent properties can not be neglected In the thermal stresses response analysis and the optimum design process of the material must be based on the temperature-dependent thermo-elastic-plastic theory.

文摘The mechanical performance of recycled aggregate concrete (RAC) is investigated. An experiment on the complete stress-strain curve under uniaxial compression loading of RAC is carried out. The experimental results indicate that the peak stress, peak strain, secant modulus of the peak point and original point increase with the strength grade of RAC enhanced. On the contrary, the residual stress of RAC decreases with the strength grade enhancing, and the failure of RAC is often broken at the interface between the recycled aggregate and the mortar matrix. Finally, the constitutive model of stress-strain model of RAC has been constituted, and the results from the constitutive model of stress-strain meet the experiment results very well.
文摘Stress analysis of cylindrical grid-stiffened composite shells was conducted under transverse loading, pure bending, torsion and axial compression under clamped-free boundary condition.Electrical strain gauges were employed to measure the strains in transverse loading case to validate the finite element analysis which was conducted using ANSYS software.Good agreement was obtained between the two methods. It was observed that stiffening the composite shell with helical ribs decreased the average equivalent Von Mises stress on the shell. The reduction of the stress seemed to be higher in the intersection of two ribs.It was also seen that the stress reduction ratio was higher when the structure was under bending compared to torsion and axial compression. The reduction ratio was approximately 75% in pure bending in the intersection point of the ribs, while it was approximately 25% in torsion. Therefore,it is concluded that the presence of the ribs is more effective under bending.Failure analysis was done using Tsai-Wu criterion. The ribs were observed to result in maximum and minimum increase in the failure load of the structure under transverse bending and torsional loading, respectively.
