Small RNAs play regulatory roles in the growth and development process of plants at the core of gene regulatory networks, which has been widely studied and confirmed in sporophyte generation of plants. However, few researches have been conducted on small RNAs and gametophyte generation. It is reported that small RNAs play important roles in floral organ development, gametogenesis, fertilization, and early zygotic development of plants. In addition, various small RNAs also play roles in controlling genetic integrity, cell differentiation and functions during the sexual reproduction process of plants. However, most of the specific functions of small RNAs in the sexual reproduction process are unknown yet. This study mainly aimed to introduce small RNAs in plants, summarize the latest advances in researches of small RNAs and plant sexual reproduction, and make prospect on its future.展开更多

They provide a means to utilise locallyproduced plant materials which are often a by-product of the food or drink industry. The value of a high fibre diet in terms of producing satiety has long been recognised. However the addition of fibre can reduce feed intake, which is clearly detrimental during stages of the production cycle when nutrient needs are high, for example in growing piglets and during lactation. More recently, fibre has been found to promote novel benefits to pig production systems, particularly given the reduction in antimicrobial use world-wide, concern for the welfare of animals fed a restricted diet and the need to ensure that such systems are more environmentally friendly. For example, inclusion of dietary fibre can alter the gut microbiota in ways that could reduce the need for antibiotics, while controlled addition of certain fibre types may reduce nitrogen losses into the environment and so reduce the environmental cost of pig production.Of particular potential value is the opportunity to use crude fibre concentrates as ’functional’ feed additives to improve young pig growth and welfare. Perhaps the greatest opportunity for the use of high fibre diets is to improve the reproductive efficiency of pigs. Increased dietary fibre before mating improves oocyte maturation, prenatal survival and litter size; providing a consumer-acceptable means of increasing the amount of saleable meat produced per sow. The mechanisms responsible for these beneficial effects remain to be elucidated. However, changes in plasma and follicular fluid concentrations of key hormones and metabolites, as well as effects of the hypothalamic satiety centre on gonadotrophin secretion and epigenetic effects are strong candidates.展开更多

文摘Sperm-structure-integrating nanodecorated microrobots have shown promise in medicine delivery and infertility treatment.A variety of spermbots use cutting-edge nanomaterials and 3D printing technology to enhance their functioning, such as biomimetic sperms and flagellate microorganisms. The success rates of assisted reproductive technology techniques like in vitro fertilisation(IVF)and intracytoplasmic sperm injection(ICSI)may increase as a result of these developments.Furthermore, the incorporation of artificial intelligence(AI)into spermbots has the potential to optimize reproductive therapies by reducing inherited illnesses through genetic screening and editing. However, before the widespread implementation of spermbots in clinical practice, several critical aspects must be addressed.Thorough investigations into biocompatibility, ethical considerations, and long-term safety are necessary to ensure that these technologies are safe and effective for in vivo applications.

文摘Natural hybridization is known to play a vital role in speciation;however, the mechanisms underlying the early stages of natural hybridization remain unclear.Where two plant species come into contact, two driving forces may balance the dynamic consequences of hybridization:fusion by hybridization-mediated gene flow, and separation by reproductive isolation(RI)(Ma et al.,2010a,b;Chang et al.,2022).

文摘Background The decline in reproductive performance of aged hens is mainly attributed to oxidative damage in reproductive organs, hepatic lipid metabolism disorders, and intestinal microbiota dysbiosis.Glycyrrhizin(GL)has been proven to enhance antioxidant capacity, regulate lipid metabolism and gut microbiota in mammals, but its efficacy in hens remains unclear.Hence, this study aimed to investigate whether dietary GL supplementation improves reproductive performance in hens during the late laying stage by modulating intestinal microbiota composition, hepatic lipid metabolism and ovarian antioxidant status. Results Dietary supplementation with 100 mg/kg GL significantly improved the egg production rate, egg quality, and hatching rate in aged breeder hens(P<0.05).GL supplementation also increased the serum levels of HDLC,TP and ALB,and enhanced the antioxidant capacity in both serum and ovary(P<0.05).In addition, dietary GL elevated the serum progesterone(P4)levels by enhancing the transcription level of steroid synthesis key enzymes(CYP11A1 and 3β-HSD)in the ovary(P<0.05).Dietary GL also promoted the synthesis and transport of vitellogenin(VTG)by upregulating the VTG-Ⅱ(P<0.05)and APOV1(P=0.077)expression levels in the liver, thereby increasing the number of grade follicles and small yellow follicles. Moreover, dietary GL enhanced hepatic fatty acidβ-oxidation by upregulating PPARαand CPT-I(P<0.05),and downregulating ACC expression levels(P<0.05).In agreement, liver metabolomics analysis revealed that dietary GL supplementation significantly altered hepatic metabolism, with 389 differentially identified metabolites(P<0.05).The key metabolites(e.g.,taurocholic acid, tauroursodeoxycholic acid, nicotinuric acid, glycodeoxycholic acid(hydrate))were identified, and they were mainly functionally enriched in betaalanine metabolism nicotinate, taurine and hypotaurine metabolism(P<0.05).Finally,16S rRNA gene sequencing revealed that dietary GL reversed age-induced changes in gut microbiota composition, characterized by a significant increase in Lactobacillus abundance and a decrease in Bacteroides(P<0.05).Conclusions These results collectively demonstrate that dietary supplementation with 100 mg/kg GL improved reproductive performance by reversing age-induced changes in gut microbiota, enhancing hepatic vitellogenin synthesis, and ameliorating ovarian function in aged breeder hens. This study suggests that dietary GL is a potential strategy to improve reproductive performance in broiler breeder hens during the late laying period.

文摘Hybrid-sterility-mediated reproductive isolation is pivotal for speciation, yet the underlying molecular mechanisms and environmental responses remain unclear. Here,we report a temperature-sensitive pollen killer-protector system at a three-gene Sa locus for indica-japonica rice hybrid sterility.Genetic analyses identified SaFL^(+),a strong pollen protector from Sa-i(indica allele),and SaFL^(-),a weak japonica allele from Sa-j,which is exclusively functional under high temperatures.Protein interaction, ubiquitination, and degradation assays showed that SaF^(+)and SaM^(+)from Sa-i form a pollen-killer complex to bind and ubiquitinate the reactive oxygen species scavenger COX11 for degradation in mitochondria, causing male sterility of the Sa-j pollen.Protein affinity and competitive binding assays indicated that in the Sa-i pollen,SaFL^(+)binds SaM^(+)to disrupt the killer complex and restore fertility. However, the weak protector SaFL^(-)can bind SaM^(+)under high temperatures, sparing the Sa-j pollen from sterility.Synteny comparisons and haplotype analyses showed that the Sa locus originated in ancient wild rice and underwent divergence within the Oryza genus during expansion from tropical to temperate environments, which might have driven latitudinal adaptation and reproductive isolation in rice populations. Thus,Sa represents a temperature-sensitive reproductive-isolation system associated with domestication and environmental adaptation in rice.
文摘Background:Epidemiological studies have confirmed that longer exposure to insecticides like cypermethrin(CYP)significantly increases the risk of male reproductive toxicity.Crocus sativus L.has been recognized due to its therapeutic properties, but its exact role and molecular mechanisms in treatment of reproductive dysfunction remain unclear. Methods:During this study,36 rats were randomly divided into six groups(n=6):control,CYP-induced(60 mg/kg),standard(leuprolide 3 mg/kg)and three treatment groups receiving aqueous, ethanolic, and oil extracts(50 mg/kg or 20 mL/kg)for post-toxicity induction. Results:The finding represented that exposure of CYP significantly increased oxidative stress, disrupted testicular architecture, and markedly reduced testosterone levels(P<0.05).Importantly,Crocus sativus L.treatment alleviated these changes by increasing the expression of Nrf2(nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2),restoring the activity of antioxidant enzymes, and enhancing testicular histomorphology.Surprisingly, molecular docking established a high binding affinity of Crocus sativus L.phytoconstituents such as gallic acid, cinnamic acid and quercetin to the Nrf2-Keap1 complex. It is worth noting that,Crocus sativus L.exhibited a high level of protection against reproductive toxicity caused by CYP in male rats, which was mediated by the activation of Nrf2 pathway, reduction of oxidative damage, and favorable ADMET characteristics. Conclusion:Notably, this research provides a more valid, safe, and effective method of developing new drugs for reproductive disorders, however, further investigation is needed to support the research findings and implement it in clinical practice.

文摘Small RNAs are non-coding RNA molecules with 20-30 nucleotides (nt) in length that mainly play regulatory roles in gene expression at the post-transcription level by directly cutting target mRNA or inhibiting its translation. This study mainly aimed to introduce small RNAs in plants, summarize the latest advances in researches of small RNAs and plant sexual reproduction, and make prospect on its future.
文摘Fibres from a variety of sources are a common constituent of pig feeds. However, changes in plasma and follicular fluid concentrations of key hormones and metabolites, as well as effects of the hypothalamic satiety centre on gonadotrophin secretion and epigenetic effects are strong candidates.
