In the flexible job-shop scheduling problem (FJSP), each operation has to be assigned to a machine from a set of capable machines before alocating the assigned operations on all machines. To solve the multi-objective FJSP, the Grantt graph oriented string representation (GOSR) and the basic manipulation of the genetic algorithm operator are presented. An integrated operator genetic algorithm (IOGA) and its process are described. Comparison between computational results and the latest research shows that the proposed algorithm is effective in reducing the total workload of all machines, the makespan and the critical machine workload. 展开更多

Computational fluid dynamics(CFD) can give a lot of potentially very useful information for hydraulic optimization design of pumps, however, it cannot directly state what kind of modification should be made to improve such hydrodynamic performance. In this paper, a more convenient and effective approach is proposed by combined using of CFD, multi-objective genetic algorithm(MOGA) and artificial neural networks(ANN) for a double-channel pump's impeller, with maximum head and efficiency set as optimization objectives, four key geometrical parameters including inlet diameter, outlet diameter, exit width and midline wrap angle chosen as optimization parameters. Firstly, a multi-fidelity fitness assignment system in which fitness of impellers serving as training and comparison samples for ANN is evaluated by CFD, meanwhile fitness of impellers generated by MOGA is evaluated by ANN, is established and dramatically reduces the computational expense. Then, a modified MOGA optimization process, in which selection is performed independently in two sub-populations according to two optimization objectives, crossover and mutation is performed afterword in the merged population, is developed to ensure the global optimal solution to be found. Finally, Pareto optimal frontier is found after 500 steps of iterations, and two optimal design schemes are chosen according to the design requirements. The preliminary and optimal design schemes are compared, and the comparing results show that hydraulic performances of both pumps 1 and 2 are improved, with the head and efficiency of pump 1 increased by 5.7% and 5.2%, respectively in the design working conditions, meanwhile shaft power decreased in all working conditions, the head and efficiency of pump 2 increased by 11.7% and 5.9%, respectively while shaft power increased by 5.5%. Inner flow field analyses also show that the backflow phenomenon significantly diminishes at the entrance of the optimal impellers 1 and 2, both the area of vortex and intensity of vortex decreases in the whole flow channel. This paper provides a promising tool to solve the hydraulic optimization problem of pumps' impellers. 展开更多

To obtain the optimal process parameters of stamping forming, finite element analysis and optimization technique were integrated via transforming multi-objective issue into a single-objective issue. A Pareto-based genetic algorithm was applied to optimizing the head stamping forming process. In the proposed optimal model, fracture, wrinkle and thickness varying are a function of several factors, such as fillet radius, draw-bead position, blank size and blank-holding force. Hence, it is necessary to investigate the relationship between the objective functions and the variables in order to make objective functions varying minimized simultaneously. Firstly, the central composite experimental(CCD) with four factors and five levels was applied, and the experimental data based on the central composite experimental were acquired. Then, the response surface model(RSM) was set up and the results of the analysis of variance(ANOVA) show that it is reliable to predict the fracture, wrinkle and thickness varying functions by the response surface model. Finally, a Pareto-based genetic algorithm was used to find out a set of Pareto front, which makes fracture, wrinkle and thickness varying minimized integrally. A head stamping case indicates that the present method has higher precision and practicability compared with the "trial and error" procedure. 展开更多

As two independent problems, scheduling for parts fabrication line and sequencing for mixed-model assembly line have been addressed respectively by many researchers. However, these two problems should be considered simultaneously to improve the efficiency of the whole fabrication/assembly systems.By far, little research effort is devoted to sequencing problems for mixed-model fabrication/assembly systems. This paper is concerned about the sequencing problems in pull production systems which are composed of one mixed-model assembly line with limited intermediate buffers and two flexible parts fabrication flow lines with identical parallel machines and limited intermediate buffers. Two objectives are considered simultaneously:minimizing the total variation in parts consumption in the assembly line and minimizing the total makespan cost in the fabrication/assembly system. The integrated optimization framework, mathematical models and the method to construct the complete schedules for the fabrication lines according to the production sequences for the first stage in fabrication lines are presented.Since the above problems are non-deterministic polynomial-hard(NP-hard),a modified multi-objective genetic algorithm is proposed for solving the models,in which a method to generate the production sequences for the fabrication lines from the production sequences for the assembly line and a method to generate the initial population are put forward, new selection, crossover and mutation operators are designed, and Pareto ranking method and sharing function method are employed to evaluate the individuals' fitness. The feasibility and efficiency of the multi-objective genetic algorithm is shown by computational comparison with a multi-objective simulated annealing algorithm. The sequencing problems for mixed-model production systems can be solved effectively by the proposed modified multi-objective genetic algorithm. 展开更多

A multi-objective optimization method based on Pareto Genetic Algorithm is presented for shape design of membrane structures from a structural view point.Several non-dimensional variables are defined as optimization variables, which are decision factors of shapes of membrane structures.Three objectives are proposed including maximization of stiffness, maximum uniformity of stress and minimum reaction under external loads.Pareto Multi-objective Genetic Algorithm is introduced to solve the Pareto solutions.Consequently, the dependence of the optimality upon the optimization variables is derived to provide guidelines on how to determine design parameters. Moreover, several examples illustrate the proposed methods and applications. The study shows that the multi-objective optimization method in this paper is feasible and efficient for membrane structures;the research on Pareto solutions can provide explicit and useful guidelines for shape design of membrane structures. 展开更多

Smallholder farming in West Africa faces various challenges, such as limited access to seeds, fertilizers, modern mechanization, and agricultural climate services. Crop productivity obtained under these conditions varies significantly from one farmer to another, making it challenging to accurately estimate crop production through crop models. This limitation has implications for the reliability of using crop models as agricultural decision-making support tools. To support decision making in agriculture, an approach combining a genetic algorithm (GA) with the crop model AquaCrop is proposed for a location-specific calibration of maize cropping. In this approach, AquaCrop is used to simulate maize crop yield while the GA is used to derive optimal parameters set at grid cell resolution from various combinations of cultivar parameters and crop management in the process of crop and management options calibration. Statistics on pairwise simulated and observed yields indicate that the coefficient of determination varies from 0.20 to 0.65, with a yield deviation ranging from 8% to 36% across Burkina Faso (BF). An analysis of the optimal parameter sets shows that regardless of the climatic zone, a base temperature of 10˚C and an upper temperature of 32˚C is observed in at least 50% of grid cells. The growing season length and the harvest index vary significantly across BF, with the highest values found in the Soudanian zone and the lowest values in the Sahelian zone. Regarding management strategies, the fertility mean rate is approximately 35%, 39%, and 49% for the Sahelian, Soudano-sahelian, and Soudanian zones, respectively. The mean weed cover is around 36%, with the Sahelian and Soudano-sahelian zones showing the highest variability. The proposed approach can be an alternative to the conventional one-size-fits-all approach commonly used for regional crop modeling. Moreover, it has the potential to explore the performance of cropping strategies to adapt to changing climate conditions. 展开更多

The non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm (NSGA) is improved with the controlled elitism and dynamic crowding distance. A novel multi-objective optimization algorithm is obtained for wind turbine blades. As an example, a 5 MW wind turbine blade design is presented by taking the maximum power coefficient and the minimum blade mass as the optimization objectives. The optimal results show that this algorithm has good performance in handling the multi-objective optimization of wind turbines, and it gives a Pareto-optimal solution set rather than the optimum solutions to the conventional multi objective optimization problems. The wind turbine blade optimization method presented in this paper provides a new and general algorithm for the multi-objective optimization of wind turbines. 展开更多

To improve performances of multi-objective optimization algorithms, such as convergence and diversity, a hybridization- encouraged mechanism is proposed and realized in elitist nondominated sorting genetic algorithm (NSGA-Ⅱ). This mechanism uses the normalized distance to evaluate the difference among genes in a population. Three possible modes of crossover operators--"Max Distance", "Min-Max Distance", and "Neighboring-Max"--are suggested and analyzed. The mode of "Neighboring-Max", which not only takes advantage of hybridization but also improves the distribution of the population near Pareto optimal front, is chosen and used in NSGA-Ⅱ on the basis of hybridization-encouraged mechanism (short for HEM-based NSGA-Ⅱ). To prove the HEM-based algorithm, several problems are studied by using standard NSGA-Ⅱ and the presented method. Different evaluation criteria are also used to judge these algorithms in terms of distribution of solutions, convergence, diversity, and quality of solutions. The numerical results indicate that the application of hybridization-encouraged mechanism could effectively improve the performances of genetic algorithm. Finally, as an example in engineering practices, the presented method is used to design a longitudinal flight control system, which demonstrates the obtainability of a reasonable and correct Pareto front. 展开更多

This study evaluates the undrained uplift capacity of open-caisson anchors embedded in anisotropic clay using Finite Element Limit Analysis(FELA)and a hybrid machine learning framework. The FELA simulations inves-tigate the influence of the radius ratio(R/B),anisotropic ratio(re),interface roughness factor(α),and inclination angle(β).Specifically, the results reveal that increasingβsignificantly enhances Nc,especially as soil behavior approaches isotropy.Higherαimproves resistance at steeper inclinations by mobilizing greater interface shear.Nc increases with re,reflecting enhanced strength under isotropic conditions. To enhance predictive accuracy and generalization,a hybrid machine learning model was developed by integrating Extreme Gradient Boosting(XGBoost)with Genetic Algorithm(GA)and Mutation-Based Genetic Algorithm(MGA)for hyperparameter tuning.Among the models,MGA-XGBoost outperformed GA-XGBoost,achieving higher predictive accuracy(R^(2)=0.996 training,0.993 testing).Furthermore,SHAP analysis consistently identified anisotropic ratio(re)as the most influential factor in predicting uplift capacity, followed by interface roughness factor(α),inclination angle(β),and radius ratio(R/B).The proposed framework serves as a scalable decision-support tool adaptable to various soil types and foundation geometries, offering a more efficient and data-driven approach to uplift-resistant design in anisotropic cohesive soils. 展开更多

A multi-objective optimization of oil well drilling has been carried out using a binary coded elitist non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm.A Louisiana offshore field with abnormal formation pressure is considered for optimization.Several multi-objective optimization problems involving twoand three-objective functions were formulated and solved to fix optimal drilling variables. The important objectives are:(i) maximizing drilling depth,(ii) minimizing drilling time and (iii) minimizing drilling cost with fractional drill bit tooth wear as a constraint.Important time dependent decision variables are:(i) equivalent circulation mud density,(ii) drill bit rotation,(iii) weight on bit and (iv) Reynolds number function of circulating mud through drill bit nozzles.A set of non-dominated optimal Pareto frontier is obtained for the two-objective optimization problem whereas a non-dominated optimal Pareto surface is obtained for the three-objective optimization problem.Depending on the trade-offs involved, decision makers may select any point from the optimal Pareto frontier or optimal Pareto surface and hence corresponding values of the decision variables that may be selected for optimal drilling operation. For minimizing drilling time and drilling cost, the optimum values of the decision variables are needed to be kept at the higher values whereas the optimum values of decision variables are at the lower values for the maximization of drilling depth. 展开更多

The process of including renewable energy sources in power networks is moving quickly,so the need for innovative configuration solutions for grid-side ESS has grown.Among the new methods presented in this paper is GA-OCESE,which stands for Genetic Algorithm-based Optimization Configuration for Energy Storage in Electric Networks. This is one of the methods suggested in this study, which aims to enhance the sizing, positioning, and operational characteristics of structured ESS under dynamic grid conditions.Particularly, the aim is to maximize efficiency.A multiobjective genetic algorithm, the GA-OCESE framework, considers all these factors simultaneously.Besides considering cost-efficiency,response time, and energy use,the system also considers all these elements simultaneously. This enables it to effectively react to load uncertainty and variations in inputs connected to renewable sources. Results of an experimental assessment conducted on a standardized grid simulation platform indicate that by increasing energy use efficiency by 17.6%and reducing peak-load effects by 22.3%,GA-OCESE outperforms previous heuristic-based methods. This was found by contrasting the outcomes of the assessment with those of the evaluation. The results of the assessment helped to reveal this. The proposed approach will provide utility operators and energy planners with a decision-making tool that is both scalable and adaptable. This technology is particularly well-suited for smart grids, microgrid systems, and power infrastructures that heavily rely on renewable energy.Every technical component has been carefully recorded to ensure accuracy, reproducibility, and relevance across all power systems engineering software uses. This was done to ensure the program’s relevance. 展开更多

This paper presents an optimized strategy for multiple integrations of photovoltaic distributed generation (PV-DG) within radial distribution power systems. The proposed methodology focuses on identifying the optimal allocation and sizing of multiple PV-DG units to minimize power losses using a probabilistic PV model and time-series power flow analysis. Addressing the uncertainties in PV output due to weather variability and diurnal cycles is critical. A probabilistic assessment offers a more robust analysis of DG integration’s impact on the grid, potentially leading to more reliable system planning. The presented approach employs a genetic algorithm (GA) and a determined PV output profile and probabilistic PV generation profile based on experimental measurements for one year of solar radiation in Cairo, Egypt. The proposed algorithms are validated using a co-simulation framework that integrates MATLAB and OpenDSS, enabling analysis on a 33-bus test system. To address the shortcomings of traditional Genetic Algorithm (GA) in multi-agent path planning, such as prolonged planning time, slow convergence, and solution instability, this paper proposes an Asynchronous Genetic Algorithm (AGA) to solve multi-agent path planning problems effectively. To enhance the real-time performance and computational efficiency of Multi-Agent Systems (MAS) in path planning, the AGA incorporates an Equal-Size Clustering Algorithm (ESCA) based on the K-means clustering method. The ESCA divides the primary task evenly into a series of subtasks, thereby reducing the gene length in the subsequent GA process. The algorithm then employs GA to solve each subtask sequentially. To evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed method, a simulation program was designed to perform path planning for 100 trajectories, and the results were compared with those of State-Of-The-Art (SOTA) methods. The simulation results demonstrate that, although the solutions provided by AGA are suboptimal, it exhibits significant advantages in terms of execution speed and solution stability compared to other algorithms. 展开更多

The increase in bridge structure span and the complex stress characteristics directly affect the optimization of sensor placement, which in turn influences the data acquisition performance of the monitoring system. The key to the information acquisition of a bridge monitoring system is to obtain data that meets the health monitoring requirements of the bridge with a limited number of measurement points. To address this,a hybrid method based on multiple optimization criteria is proposed for optimal sensor placement(OSP).First, the minimum number of modes required for bridge monitoring is determined using the information entropy criterion(IE).Then, the number of measurement points is determined using a sequence method combined with the modal assurance criterion(MAC).Finally, the sensor placement is optimized using the generalized genetic algorithm(GGA)combined with double-structure encoding, and the optimization results are validated through finite element model analysis. The research results show that the hybrid method based on multiple optimization criteria can effectively determine the number of measurement points for bridge structures and optimize sensor placement, with a significant improvement in computational speed. 展开更多

In this paper, a regional satellite constellation design scheme with multiple feature points and multiple optimization indicators is proposed by comprehensively considering multi-objective optimization and genetic algorithm, and "the Belt and Road" model is presented in the way of dividing over 70 nations into three regular target areas. Following this, we formulate the optimization model and devise a multi-objective genetic algorithm suited for the regional area with the coverage rate under simulating, computing and determining. Meanwhile, the total number of satellites in the constellation is reduced by calculating the ratio of actual coverage of a single-orbit constellation and the area of targets. Moreover, the constellations' performances of the proposed scheme are investigated with the connection of C++ and Satellite Tool Kit(STK). Nonlinear wavefront shaping is crucial for advancing optical technologies, enabling applications in optical computation, information processing, and imaging. However,a significant challenge is that once a metasurface is fabricated, the nonlinear wavefront it generates is fixed, offering little flexibility. This limitation often necessitates the fabrication of different metasurfaces for different wavefronts, which is both time-consuming and inefficient. To address this,we combine evolutionary algorithms with spatial light modulators(SLMs)to dynamically control wavefronts using a single metasurface, reducing the need for multiple fabrications and enabling the generation of arbitrary nonlinear wavefront patterns without requiring complicated optical alignment. We demonstrate this approach by introducing a genetic algorithm(GA)to manipulate visible wavefronts converted from near-infrared light via third-harmonic generation(THG)in a silicon metasurface. The Si metasurface supports multipolar Mie resonances that strongly enhance light-matter interactions, thereby significantly boosting THG emission at resonant positions.Additionally, the cubic relationship between THG emission and the infrared input reduces noise in the diffractive patterns produced by the SLM.This allows for precise experimental engineering of the nonlinear emission patterns with fewer alignment constraints. Our approach paves the way for self-optimized nonlinear wavefront shaping, advancing optical computation and information processing techniques. 展开更多

Radio antenna arrays have many advantages for astronomical observations, such as high resolution, high sensitivity,multi-target simultaneous observation, and flexible beam formation.Problems surrounding key indices, such as sensitivity enhancement, scanning range extension, and sidelobe level suppression, need to be solved urgently. Here,we propose a sparse optimization scheme based on a genetic algorithm for a 64-array element planar radio antenna array. As optimization targets for the iterative process of the genetic algorithm,we use the maximum sidelobe levels and beamwidth of multiple cross-section patterns that pass through the main beam in three-dimensions,with the maximum sidelobe levels of the patterns at several different scanning angles.Element positions are adjusted for iterations,to select the optimal array configuration.Following sparse layout optimization, the simulated 64-element planar radio antenna array shows that the maximum sidelobe level decreases by 1.79 dB,and the beamwidth narrows by 3°.Within the scan range of±30°,after sparse array optimization, all sidelobe levels decrease, and all beamwidths narrow. This performance improvement can potentially enhance the sensitivity and spatial resolution of radio telescope systems. 展开更多
