To determine the onset and duration of contraflow evacuation, a multi-objective optimization(MOO) model is proposed to explicitly consider both the total system evacuation time and the operation cost. A solution algorithm that enhances the popular evolutionary algorithm NSGA-II is proposed to solve the model. The algorithm incorporates preliminary results as prior information and includes a meta-model as an alternative to evaluation by simulation. Numerical analysis of a case study suggests that the proposed formulation and solution algorithm are valid, and the enhanced NSGA-II outperforms the original algorithm in both convergence to the true Pareto-optimal set and solution diversity. 展开更多

Deployable Composite Thin-Walled Structures(DCTWS)are widely used in space applications due to their ability to compactly fold and self-deploy in orbit, enabled by cutouts.Cutout design is crucial for balancing structural rigidity and flexibility, ensuring material integrity during large deformations, and providing adequate load-bearing capacity and stability once deployed. Most research has focused on optimizing cutout size and shape, while topology optimization offers a broader design space. However, the anisotropic properties of woven composite laminates, complex failure criteria, and multi-performance optimization needs have limited the exploration of topology optimization in this field. This work derives the sensitivities of bending stiffness, critical buckling load, and the failure index of woven composite materials with respect to element density, and formulates both single-objective and multi-objective topology optimization models using a linear weighted aggregation approach. The developed method was integrated with the commercial finite element software ABAQUS via a Python script, allowing efficient application to cutout design in various DCTWS configurations to maximize bending stiffness and critical buckling load under material failure constraints.Optimization of a classical tubular hinge resulted in improvements of 107.7%in bending stiffness and 420.5%in critical buckling load compared to level-set topology optimization results reported in the literature, validating the effectiveness of the approach. To facilitate future research and encourage the broader adoption of topology optimization techniques in DCTWS design, the source code for this work is made publicly available via a Git Hub link:https://github.com/jinhao-ok1/Topo-for-DCTWS.git. 展开更多

Task scheduling in cloud computing is a multi-objective optimization problem, often involving conflicting objectives such as minimizing execution time, reducing operational cost, and maximizing resource utilization. However, traditional approaches frequently rely on single-objective optimization methods which are insufficient for capturing the complexity of such problems. To address this limitation,we introduce MDMOSA(Multi-objective Dwarf Mongoose Optimization with Simulated Annealing),a hybrid that integrates multi-objective optimization for efficient task scheduling in Infrastructure-as-a-Service(IaaS)cloud environments.MDMOSA harmonizes the exploration capabilities of the biologically inspired Dwarf Mongoose Optimization(DMO)with the exploitation strengths of Simulated Annealing(SA),achieving a balanced search process. The algorithm aims to optimize task allocation by reducing makespan and financial cost while improving system resource utilization. We evaluate MDMOSA through extensive simulations using the real-world Google Cloud Jobs(GoCJ)dataset within the CloudSim environment.Comparative analysis against benchmarked algorithms such as SMOACO,MOTSGWO,and MFPAGWO reveals that MDMOSA consistently achieves superior performance in terms of scheduling efficiency,cost-effectiveness,and scalability. These results confirm the potential of MDMOSA as a robust and adaptable solution for resource scheduling in dynamic and heterogeneous cloud computing infrastructures. 展开更多

In a wide range of engineering applications, complex constrained multi-objective optimization problems(CMOPs)present significant challenges,as the complexity of constraints often hampers algorithmic convergence and reduces population diversity. To address these challenges,we propose a novel algorithm named Constraint IntensityDriven Evolutionary Multitasking(CIDEMT),which employs a two-stage,tri-task framework to dynamically integrates problem structure and knowledge transfer. In the first stage, three cooperative tasks are designed to explore the Constrained Pareto Front(CPF),the Unconstrained Pareto Front(UPF),and theε-relaxed constraint boundary, respectively.A CPF-UPF relationship classifier is employed to construct a problem-type-aware evolutionary strategy pool.At the end of the first stage, each task selects strategies from this strategy pool based on the specific type of problem, thereby guiding the subsequent evolutionary process. In the second stage, while each task continues to evolve,aτ-driven knowledge transfer mechanism is introduced to selectively incorporate effective solutions across tasks.enhancing the convergence and feasibility of the main task.Extensive experiments conducted on 32 benchmark problems from three test suites(LIRCMOP,DASCMOP,and DOC)demonstrate that CIDEMT achieves the best Inverted Generational Distance(IGD)values on 24 problems and the best Hypervolume values(HV)on 22 problems.Furthermore,CIDEMT significantly outperforms six state-of-the-art constrained multi-objective evolutionary algorithms(CMOEAs).These results confirm CIDEMT’s superiority in promoting convergence, diversity, and robustness in solving complex CMOPs. 展开更多

Visible lighting and energy-saving are dual needs of energy efficiency and occupant comfort in modern buildings. In this study,a smart window based on phase-change material VO_(2) is designed and optimized to address the critical challenges in building energy management. The proposed phase-adaptive radiative(PAR)coating is a multilayer nanostructure consisting of TiO/VO_(2)2/TiO/Ag_(2) and polydimethylsiloxane(PDMS).For different VO_(2) phases, visible transmittance T_(vis)>0.6 and emissivity difference in the atmospheric window Δε_(AW)=0.422 can be achieved, which means the PAR window can transfer interior heat to the outside through thermal radiation for cooling or minimize thermal emission for insulation, while ensuring the transmission of visible light for natural daylighting.Compared to normal glass, the PAR window has an average temperature drop of 14.8℃.The year-round energy-saving calculation for four different cities in China indicates that the PAR window can save 22%-32% of the annual cooling and heating energy consumption by seamlessly transitioning between two phases of VO_(2)modes.The multi-objective optimization of the phase-adaptive radiative smart window provides a potential strategy for energy saving. 展开更多

Rapid urbanization in China has led to spatial antagonism between urban development and farmland protection and ecological security maintenance.Multi-objective spatial collaborative optimization is a powerful method for achieving sustainable regional development.Previous studies on multi-objective spatial optimization do not involve spatial corrections to simulation results based on the natural endowment of space resources. This study proposes an Ecological Security-Food Security-Urban Sustainable Development(ES-FS-USD)spatial optimization framework. This framework combines the non-dominated sorting genetic algorithm II(NSGA-II)and patch-generating land use simulation(PLUS)model with an ecological protection importance evaluation, comprehensive agricultural productivity evaluation, and urban sustainable development potential assessment and optimizes the territorial space in the Yangtze River Delta(YRD)region in 2035.The proposed sustainable development(SD)scenario can effectively reduce the destruction of landscape patterns of various land-use types while considering both ecological and economic benefits. The simulation results were further revised by evaluating the land-use suitability of the YRD region.According to the revised spatial pattern for the YRD in 2035,the farmland area accounts for 43.59%of the total YRD,which is 5.35%less than that in 2010.Forest,grassland,and water area account for 40.46%of the total YRD—an increase of 1.42%compared with the case in 2010.Construction land accounts for 14.72%of the total YRD—an increase of 2.77%compared with the case in 2010.The ES-FS-USD spatial optimization framework ensures that spatial optimization outcomes are aligned with the natural endowments of land resources, thereby promoting the sustainable use of land resources, improving the ability of spatial management, and providing valuable insights for decision makers. 展开更多

This study proposes a multi-objective optimization framework for electric winches in fiber-reinforced plastic(FRP)fishing vessels to address critical limitations of conventional designs, including excessive weight, material inefficiency, and performance redundancy.By integrating surrogate modeling techniques with a multi-objective genetic algorithm(MOGA),we have developed a systematic approach that encompasses parametric modeling, finite element analysis under extreme operational conditions, and multi-fidelity performance evaluation.Through a 10-t electric winch case study, the methodology’s effectiveness is demonstrated via parametric characterization of structural integrity, stiffness behavior, and mass distribution. The comparative analysis identified optimal surrogate models for predicting key performance metrics, which enabled the construction of a robust multi-objective optimization model. The MOGA-derived Pareto solutions produced a design configuration achieving 7.86%mass reduction,2.01%safety factor improvement, and 23.97%deformation mitigation.Verification analysis confirmed the optimization scheme’s reliability in balancing conflicting design requirements. This research establishes a generalized framework for marine deck machinery modernization, particularly addressing the structural compatibility challenges in FRP vessel retrofitting. The proposed methodology demonstrates significant potential for facilitating sustainable upgrades of fishing vessel equipment through systematic performance optimization. 展开更多

The rapid and increasing growth in the volume and number of cyber threats from malware is not a real danger;the real threat lies in the obfuscation of these cyberattacks,as they constantly change their behavior, making detection more difficult.Numerous researchers and developers have devoted considerable attention to this topic;however, the research field has not yet been fully saturated with high-quality studies that address these problems. For this reason, this paper presents a novel multi-objective Markov-enhanced adaptive whale optimization(MOMEAWO)cybersecurity model to improve the classification of binary and multi-class malware threats through the proposed MOMEAWO approach. The proposed MOMEAWO cybersecurity model aims to provide an innovative solution for analyzing, detecting, and classifying the behavior of obfuscated malware within their respective families. The proposed model includes three classification types:Binary classification and multi-class classification(e.g.,four families and 16 malware families). To evaluate the performance of this model,we used a recently published dataset called the Canadian Institute for Cybersecurity Malware Memory Analysis(CIC-MalMem-2022)that contains balanced data. The results show near-perfect accuracy in binary classification and high accuracy in multi-class classification compared with related work using the same dataset. 展开更多

The belief rule-based(BRB)system has been popular in complexity system modeling due to its good interpretability. However, the current mainstream optimization methods of the BRB systems only focus on modeling accuracy but ignore the interpretability. The single-objective optimization strategy has been applied in the interpretability-accuracy trade-off by inte-grating accuracy and interpretability into an optimization objec-tive.But the integration has a greater impact on optimization results with strong subjectivity. Thus,a multi-objective optimiza-tion framework in the modeling of BRB systems with inter-pretability-accuracy trade-off is proposed in this paper.Firstly, complexity and accuracy are taken as two independent opti-mization goals, and uniformity as a constraint to give the mathe-matical description.Secondly,a classical multi-objective opti-mization algorithm, nondominated sorting genetic algorithm II(NSGA-II),is utilized as an optimization tool to give a set of BRB systems with different accuracy and complexity. Finally,a pipeline leakage detection case is studied to verify the feasibility and effectiveness of the developed multi-objective optimization. The comparison illustrates that the proposed multi-objective optimization framework can effectively avoid the subjectivity of single-objective optimization, and has capability of joint optimiz-ing the structure and parameters of BRB systems with inter-pretability-accuracy trade-off. 展开更多

Optimizing convolutional neural networks(CNNs)for IoT attack detection remains a critical yet challenging task due to the need to balance multiple performance metrics beyond mere accuracy. This study proposes a unified and flexible optimization framework that leverages metaheuristic algorithms to automatically optimize CNN configurations for IoT attack detection.Unlike conventional single-objective approaches, the proposed method formulates a global multi-objective fitness function that integrates accuracy, precision, recall, and model size(speed/model complexity penalty)with adjustable weights. This design enables both single-objective and weightedsum multi-objective optimization, allowing adaptive selection of optimal CNN configurations for diverse deployment requirements. Two representativemetaheuristic algorithms,GeneticAlgorithm(GA)and Particle Swarm Optimization(PSO),are employed to optimize CNNhyperparameters and structure. At each generation/iteration,the best configuration is selected as themost balanced solution across optimization objectives,i.e.,the one achieving themaximum value of the global objective function.Experimental validation on two benchmark datasets,Edge-IIoT and CIC-IoT2023,demonstrates that the proposed GA-and PSO-based models significantly enhance detection accuracy(94.8%–98.3%)and generalization compared with manually tuned CNN configurations, while maintaining compact architectures. The results confirm that the multi-objective framework effectively balances predictive performance and computational efficiency. This work establishes a generalizable and adaptive optimization strategy for deep learning-based IoT attack detection and provides a foundation for future hybrid metaheuristic extensions in broader IoT security applications. 展开更多

Accurate parameter extraction of photovoltaic(PV)models plays a critical role in enabling precise performance prediction, optimal system sizing, and effective operational control under diverse environmental conditions. While a wide range of metaheuristic optimisation techniques have been applied to this problem, many existing methods are hindered by slow convergence rates, susceptibility to premature stagnation, and reduced accuracy when applied to complex multi-diode PV configurations. These limitations can lead to suboptimal modelling, reducing the efficiency of PV system design and operation. In this work,we propose an enhanced hybrid optimisation approach, the modified Spider Wasp Optimization(mSWO)with Opposition-Based Learning algorithm, which integrates the exploration and exploitation capabilities of the Spider Wasp Optimization(SWO)metaheuristic with the diversityenhancing mechanism of Opposition-Based Learning(OBL).The hybridisation is designed to dynamically expand the search space coverage, avoid premature convergence, and improve both convergence speed and precision in highdimensional optimisation tasks. The mSWO algorithm is applied to three well-established PV configurations:the single diode model(SDM),the double diode model(DDM),and the triple diode model(TDM).Real experimental current-voltage(I-V)datasets from a commercial PV module under standard test conditions(STC)are used for evaluation.Comparative analysis is conducted against eighteen advanced metaheuristic algorithms, including BSDE,RLGBO,GWOCS,MFO,EO,TSA,and SCA.Performance metrics include minimum, mean, and maximum root mean square error(RMSE),standard deviation(SD),and convergence behaviour over 30 independent runs. The results reveal that mSWO consistently delivers superior accuracy and robustness across all PV models, achieving the lowest RMSE values of 0.000986022(SDM),0.000982884(DDM),and 0.000982529(TDM),with minimal SD values, indicating remarkable repeatability.Convergence analyses further show that mSWO reaches optimal solutions more rapidly and with fewer oscillations than all competing methods, with the performance gap widening as model complexity increases. These findings demonstrate that mSWO provides a scalable, computationally efficient, and highly reliable framework for PV parameter extraction. Its adaptability to models of growing complexity suggests strong potential for broader applications in renewable energy systems, including performance monitoring, fault detection, and intelligent control, thereby contributing to the optimisation of next-generation solar energy solutions. 展开更多

The moving morphable component(MMC)topology optimization method,as a typical explicit topology optimization method, has been widely concerned. In the MMC topology optimization framework, the surrogate material model is mainly used for finite element analysis at present, and the effectiveness of the surrogate material model has been fully confirmed. However, there are some accuracy problems when dealing with boundary elements using the surrogate material model, which will affect the topology optimization results. In this study,a boundary element reconstruction(BER)model is proposed based on the surrogate material model under the MMC topology optimization framework to improve the accuracy of topology optimization. The proposed BER model can reconstruct the boundary elements by refining the local meshes and obtaining new nodes in boundary elements. Then the density of boundary elements is recalculated using the new node information, which is more accurate than the original model.Based on the new density of boundary elements, the material properties and volume information of the boundary elements are updated.Compared with other finite element analysis methods, the BER model is simple and feasible and can improve computational accuracy. Finally, the effectiveness and superiority of the proposed method are verified by comparing it with the optimization results of the original surrogate material model through several numerical examples. 展开更多

The multi-objective particle swarm optimization algorithm(MOPSO)is widely used to solve multi-objective optimization problems. In the article,amulti-objective particle swarm optimization algorithmbased on decomposition and multi-selection strategy is proposed to improve the search efficiency.First, two update strategies based on decomposition are used to update the evolving population and external archive, respectively.Second,a multiselection strategy is designed. The first strategy is for the subspace without a non-dominated solution.Among the neighbor particles, the particle with the smallest penalty-based boundary intersection value is selected as the global optimal solution and the particle far away fromthe search particle and the global optimal solution is selected as the personal optimal solution to enhance global search. The second strategy is for the subspace with a non-dominated solution. In the neighbor particles, two particles are randomly selected, one as the global optimal solution and the other as the personal optimal solution,to enhance local search. The third strategy is for Pareto optimal front(PF)discontinuity, which is identified by the cumulative number of iterations of the subspace without non-dominated solutions. In the subsequent iteration,a new probability distribution is used to select from the remaining subspaces to search.Third,an adaptive inertia weight update strategy based on the dominated degree is designed to further improve the search efficiency. Finally, the proposed algorithmis compared with fivemulti-objective particle swarm optimization algorithms and five multi-objective evolutionary algorithms on 22 test problems. The results show that the proposed algorithm has better performance. 展开更多

With growing concerns over environmental issues, ethylene manufacturing is shifting from a sole focus on economic benefits to an additional consideration of environmental impacts. The operation of the thermal cracking furnace in ethylene manufacturing determines not only the profitability of an ethylene plant but also the carbon emissions it releases. While multi-objective optimization of the thermal cracking furnace to balance profit with environmental impact is an effective solution to achieve green ethylene man-ufacturing,it carries a high computational demand due to the complex dynamic processes involved. In this work, artificial intelligence(AI)is applied to develop a novel hybrid model based on physically consistent machine learning(PCML).This hybrid model not only reduces the computational demand but also retains the interpretability and scalability of the model. With this hybrid model, the computational demand of the multi-objective dynamic optimization is reduced to 77 s.The optimization results show that dynamically adjusting the operating variables with coke formation can effectively improve profit and reduce CO_(2)emissions.In addition, the results from this study indicate that sacrificing 28.97%of the annual profit can significantly reduce the annual CO_(2)emissions by 42.89%.The key findings of this study highlight the great potential for green ethylene manufacturing based on AI through modeling and optimization approaches. This study will be important for industrial practitioners and policy-makers. 展开更多

This paper presents an improved virtual coupling train set(VCTS)operation control framework to deal with the lack of opti-mization of speed curves in the traditional techniques. The framework takes into account the temporary speed limit on the railway line and the communication delay between trains, and it uses a VCTS consisting of three trains as an experimental object. It creates the virtual coupling train tracking and control process by improving the driving strategy of the leader train and using the leader-follower model. The follower train uses the improved speed curve of the leader train as its speed refer-ence curve through knowledge migration, and this completes the multi-objective optimization of the driving strategy for the VCTS.The experimental results confirm that the deep reinforcement learning algorithm effectively achieves the optimization goal of the train driving strategy. They also reveal that the intrinsic curiosity module prioritized experience replay dueling double deep Q-network(ICM-PER-D3QN)algorithm outperforms the deep Q-network(DQN)algorithm in optimizing the driving strategy of the leader train. The ICM-PER-D3QN algorithm enhances the leader train driving strategy by an average of 57%when compared to the DQN algorithm.Furthermore, the particle swarm optimization(PSO)-based model predictive control(MPC)algorithm has also demonstrated tracking accuracy and further improved safety during VCTS operation, with an average increase of 37.7%in tracking accuracy compared to the traditional MPC algorithm. 展开更多
