Intelligent decision-making for TBM tunnelling control parameters using multi-objective optimization

In tunnel construction,tunnel boring machine(TBM)tunnelling typically relies on manual experience with sub-optimal control parameters,which can easily lead to inefficiency and high costs.This study proposed an intelligent decision-making method for TBM tunnelling control parameters based on multiobjective optimization(MOO).First,the effective TBM operation dataset is obtained through data preprocessing of the Songhua River(YS)tunnel project in China.Next,the proposed method begins with developing machine learning models for predicting TBM tunnelling performance parameters(i.e.total thrust and cutterhead torque),rock mass classification,and hazard risks(i.e.tunnel collapse and shield jamming).Then,considering three optimal objectives,(i.e.,penetration rate,rock-breaking energy consumption,and cutterhead hob wear),the MOO framework and corresponding mathematical expression are established.The Pareto optimal front is solved using DE-NSGA-II algorithm.Finally,the optimal control parameters(i.e.,advance rate and cutterhead rotation speed)are obtained by the satisfactory solution determination criterion,which can balance construction safety and efficiency with satisfaction.Furthermore,the proposed method is validated through 50 cases of TBM tunnelling,showing promising potential of application. 展开更多

This study proposes a multi-objective optimization framework for electric winches in fiber-reinforced plastic(FRP)fishing vessels to address critical limitations of conventional designs,including excessive weight,material inefficiency,and performance redundancy.By integrating surrogate modeling techniques with a multi-objective genetic algorithm(MOGA),we have developed a systematic approach that encompasses parametric modeling,finite element analysis under extreme operational conditions,and multi-fidelity performance evaluation.Through a 10-t electric winch case study,the methodology’s effectiveness is demonstrated via parametric characterization of structural integrity,stiffness behavior,and mass distribution.The comparative analysis identified optimal surrogate models for predicting key performance metrics,which enabled the construction of a robust multi-objective optimization model.The MOGA-derived Pareto solutions produced a design configuration achieving 7.86%mass reduction,2.01%safety factor improvement,and 23.97%deformation mitigation.Verification analysis confirmed the optimization scheme’s reliability in balancing conflicting design requirements.This research establishes a generalized framework for marine deck machinery modernization,particularly addressing the structural compatibility challenges in FRP vessel retrofitting.The proposed methodology demonstrates significant potential for facilitating sustainable upgrades of fishing vessel equipment through systematic performance optimization. 展开更多

The rapid and increasing growth in the volume and number of cyber threats from malware is not a real danger;the real threat lies in the obfuscation of these cyberattacks,as they constantly change their behavior,making detection more difficult.Numerous researchers and developers have devoted considerable attention to this topic;however,the research field has not yet been fully saturated with high-quality studies that address these problems.For this reason,this paper presents a novel multi-objective Markov-enhanced adaptive whale optimization(MOMEAWO)cybersecurity model to improve the classification of binary and multi-class malware threats through the proposed MOMEAWO approach.The proposed MOMEAWO cybersecurity model aims to provide an innovative solution for analyzing,detecting,and classifying the behavior of obfuscated malware within their respective families.The proposed model includes three classification types:Binary classification and multi-class classification(e.g.,four families and 16 malware families).To evaluate the performance of this model,we used a recently published dataset called the Canadian Institute for Cybersecurity Malware Memory Analysis(CIC-MalMem-2022)that contains balanced data.The results show near-perfect accuracy in binary classification and high accuracy in multi-class classification compared with related work using the same dataset. 展开更多

The traditional analysishierarchy process needs identity test. The traditional analysis hierarchy process is improved bymeans of optimal transfer matrix here. An improved hierarchy decision-making model for the treatmentof landslide hazard is set up. The judgment matrix obtained by the method can naturally meet therequirement of identity, so the identity test is not necessary. To decrease the subjectivity in the process of decision-making, the LOWA operator is introduced, and a discussion on how to select appropriate weights involved in multi-objective sorting is made. In order to carry out comprehensive decision-making of multi-class shared parking measures within a region, a bilevel model assisting decision-making is proposed. The upper level selects parkers' average satisfaction and the violation rate during peak hours as indices in object function, and sets probability distribution models describing dynamic parking demand of each site, the feasibility of shared parking scenarios and occupancy requirements during peak hours of each parking lot as restrictions. The simulation model in the lower level sets up rules to assign each parker in the random parking demand series to the proper parking lot. An iterative method is proposed to confirm the state of each parking lot at the start of formal simulations. Besides, two patterns linking initialization and formal simulation are presented to acquire multiple solutions. The results of the numerical examples indicate the effectiveness of the model and solution methods. 展开更多

During the machining process, cutting fluid is one of the main roots of e nvironmental pollution. And how to make an optimal selection for cutting fluid f or GM is an important path to reduce the environmental pollution. The objective factors of decision-making problems in the traditional selection of cutting flu id are usually two: quality and cost. But from the viewpoint of GM, environmenta l impact (E) should be considered together. In this paper, a multi-object d ecision-making model of cutting fluid selection for GM is put forward, in which the objects of Quality (Q), Cost(C) and Environmental impact (E) are considered together. In this model, E means to minimize the environmental impact, Q means to maximize the quality and C means to minimize the cost. Each objective is anal yzed in detail too. With the precondition of strictly controlling maximum emissions rights, initial water rights were allocated between the first and the second levels of the hierarchy in order to promote fair and coordinated development across different regions of the basin and coordinated and efficient water use across different water sectors, realize the maximum comprehensive benefits to the basin, promote the unity of quantity and quality of initial water rights allocation, and eliminate water conflict across different regions and water sectors. According to interactive decision-making theory, a principal-subordinate hierarchical interactive iterative algorithm based on the satisfaction degree was developed and used to solve the initial water rights allocation model. With the fast growth of Chinese economic, more and more capital will be invested in environmental projects. How to select the environmental investment projects (alternatives) for obtaining the best environmental quality and economic benefits is an important problem for the decision makers. The purpose of this paper is to develop a decision-making model to rank a finite number of alternatives with several and sometimes conflicting criteria. A model for ranking the projects of municipal sewage treatment plants is proposed by using exports' information and the data of the real projects. And, the ranking result is given based on the PROMETHEE method. Furthermore, by means of the concept of the weight stability intervals (WSI), the sensitivity of the ranking results to the size of criteria values and the change of weights value of criteria are discussed. The result shows that some criteria, such as “proportion of benefit to project cost”, will influence the ranking result of alternatives very strong while others not. The influence are not only from the value of criterion but also from the changing the weight of criterion. So, some criteria such as “proportion of benefit to project cost” are key critera for ranking the projects. Decision makers must be cautious to them. 展开更多

This paper introduces the Surrogate-assisted Multi-objective Grey Wolf Optimizer(SMOGWO)as a novel methodology for addressing the complex problem of empty-heavy train allocation,with a focus on line utilization balance.By integrating surrogate models to approximate the objective functions,SMOGWO significantly improves the efficiency and accuracy of the optimization process.The effectiveness of this approach is evaluated using the CEC2009 multi-objective test function suite,where SMOGWO achieves a superiority rate of 76.67%compared to other leading multi-objective algorithms.Furthermore,the practical applicability of SMOGWO is demonstrated through a case study on empty and heavy train allocation,which validates its ability to balance line capacity,minimize transportation costs,and optimize the technical combination of heavy trains.The research highlights SMOGWO's potential as a robust solution for optimization challenges in railway transportation,offering valuable contributions toward enhancing operational efficiency and promoting sustainable development in the sector. 展开更多

In order to improve efficiency it is proposed to construct a model management framework to perform the multi-objective optimization design of wing structure. The sufficient accurate approximation models of objective and constraint functions in the wing structure optimization model are built when using the model management framework, therefore in the evolutionary algorithm a number of finite element analyses can he avoided and the satisfactory multi-objective optimization results of the wing structure of the high altitude long endurance UAV are obtained. 展开更多

Collision avoidance decision-making models of multiple agents in virtual driving environment are studied. Based on the behavioral characteristics and hierarchical structure of the collision avoidance decision-making in real life driving, delphi approach and mathematical statistics method are introduced to construct pair-wise comparison judgment matrix of collision avoidance decision choices to each collision situation. Analytic hierarchy process (AHP) is adopted to establish the agents' collision avoidance decision-making model. To simulate drivers' characteristics, driver factors are added to categorize driving modes into impatient mode, normal mode, and the cautious mode. The results show that this model can simulate human's thinking process, and the agents in the virtual environment can deal with collision situations and make decisions to avoid collisions without intervention. The model can also reflect diversity and uncertainly of real life driving behaviors, and solves the multi-objective, multi-choice ranking priority problem in multi-vehicle collision scenarios. This collision avoidance model of multi-agents model is feasible and effective, and can provide richer and closer-to-life virtual scene for driving simulator, reflecting real-life traffic environment more truly, this model can also promote the practicality of driving simulator. 展开更多

A vague-set-based fuzzy multi-objective decision making model is developed for evaluating bidding plans in a bid- ding purchase process. A group of decision-makers (DMs) first independently assess bidding plans according to their experience and preferences, and these assessments may be expressed as linguistic terms, which are then converted to fuzzy numbers. The resulting decision matrices are then transformed to objective membership grade matrices. The lower bound of satisfaction and upper bound of dissatisfaction are used to determine each bidding plan’s supporting, opposing, and neutral objective sets, which together determine the vague value of a bidding plan. Finally, a score function is employed to rank all bidding plans. A new score function based on vague sets is introduced in the model and a novel method is presented for calculating the lower bound of sat- isfaction and upper bound of dissatisfaction. In a vague-set-based fuzzy multi-objective decision making model, different valua- tions for upper and lower bounds of satisfaction usually lead to distinct ranking results. Therefore, it is crucial to effectively contain DMs’ arbitrariness and subjectivity when these values are determined. 展开更多

For automated vehicles,comfortable driving will improve passengers’ satisfaction.Reducing fuel consumption brings economic profits for car owners,decreases the impact on the environment and increases energy sustainability.In addition to comfort and fuel-economy,automated vehicles also have the basic requirements of safety and car-following.For this purpose,an adaptive cruise control (ACC) algorithm with multi-objectives is proposed based on a model predictive control (MPC) framework.In the proposed ACC algorithm,safety is guaranteed by constraining the inter-distance within a safe range; the requirements of comfort and car-following are considered to be the performance criteria and some optimal reference trajectories are introduced to increase fuel-economy.The performances of the proposed ACC algorithm are simulated and analyzed in five representative traffic scenarios and multiple experiments.The results show that not only are safety and car-following objectives satisfied,but also driving comfort and fuel-economy are improved significantly. 展开更多

Due to people’s increasing dependence on social networks,it is essential to develop a consensus model considering not only their own factors but also the interaction between people.Both external trust relationship among experts and the internal reliability of experts are important factors in decision-making.This paper focuses on improving the scientificity and effectiveness of decision-making and presents a consensus model combining trust relationship among experts and expert reliability in social network group decision-making(SN-GDM).A concept named matching degree is proposed to measure expert reliability.Meanwhile,linguistic information is applied to manage the imprecise and vague information.Matching degree is expressed by a 2-tuple linguistic model,and experts’preferences are measured by a probabilistic linguistic term set(PLTS).Subsequently,a hybrid weight is explored to weigh experts’importance in a group.Then a consensus measure is introduced and a feedback mechanism is developed to produce some personalized recommendations with higher group consensus.Finally,a comparative example is provided to prove the scientificity and effectiveness of the proposed consensus model. 展开更多

Background: In paternalistic models, healthcare providers’ responsibility is to decide what is best for patients. The main concern is that such models fail to respect patient autonomy and do not promote patient responsibility. Aim: To evaluate mental healthcare team members’ perceptions of their own role in encouraging elderly persons to participate in shared decision-making after implementation of the CCM. The CCM is not an explanatory theory, but an evidence-based guideline and synthesis of best available evidence. Methods: Data were collected from two teams that took part in a focus group interview, and the transcript was analysed by means of qualitative thematic analysis. Results: One overall theme emerged—Preventing the violation of human dignity based on three themes, namely, Changing understanding and attitudes, Increasing depressed elderly persons’ autonomy and Clarifying the mental healthcare team coordinator’s role and responsibility. The results of this study reveal that until recently, paternalism has been the dominant decision-making model within healthcare, without any apparent consideration of the patient perspective. Community mental healthcare can be improved by shared decision-making in which team members initiate a dialogue focusing on patient participation to prevent the violation of human dignity. However, in order to determine how best to empower the patient, team members need expert knowledge and intuition. 展开更多

An application of multi-objective particle swarm optimization (MOPSO) algorithm for optimization of the hydrological model (HYMOD) is presented in this paper. MOPSO algorithm is used to find non-dominated solutions with two objectives: high flow Nash-Sutcliffe efficiency and low flow Nash- Sutcliffe efficiency. The two sets' coverage rate and Pareto front spacing metric are two criterions to analyze the performance of the algorithms. MOPSO algorithm surpasses multi-objective shuffled complex evolution metcopolis (MOSCEM_UA) algorithr~, in terms of the two sets' coverage rate. But when we come to Pareto front spacing rate, the non-dominated solutions of MOSCEM_ UA algorithm are better-distributed than that of MOPSO algorithm when the iteration is set to 40 000. In addition, there are obvious conflicts between the two objectives. But a compromise solution can be acquired by adopting the MOPSO algorithm. 展开更多
