Spatial morphology optimization for reconciling urban expansion with ecological integrity based on a multi-level ecological network framework

Urban spatial morphology(USM)optimization is critical to balancing biodiversity conservation and sustainable urbanization.However,previous studies predominantly focused on the socio-economic efficiency and static ecological metrics and rarely addressed the dynamic USM optimization across spatial scales.Here,we developed a multi-level ecological network(MEN)framework to resolve the tension between urban expansion and ecological integrity.By integrating the cost-weighted distance analysis with a hierarchical network transmission mechanism,we established a cross-scale spatial optimization system,which coordinated the regional ecological corridors and local habitat patches.Comparative experiments with conventional single-scale approaches and scenario simulations using the PLUS model show that the MEN framework had superior performance in three dimensions:(1)spatial governance:the primary-level network(peri-urban natural reserves)effectively contained urban sprawl,and the secondary-level network(intra-urban green corridors)mitigated habitat fragmentation and improved the built-environment;(2)scenario robustness:the model maintained an optimal compactness-loose balance in multiple development pathways;(3)landscape metrics:patch fragmentation decreased by 18.25%,and the internal landscape richness improved by 10.66%compared to the scenario without USM optimization.The findings provide new insight to establish a hierarchical ecological optimization framework as a nature-based spatial protocol to reconcile metropolitan growth with landscape sustainability. 展开更多

An appropriate spatial structure of a power battery supply network is crucial for the specialization and scale development of key components in new energy vehicles, accelerating the transformation and upgrade of the industry. This paper investigates the cooperative relationships among supply chain enterprises from the perspective of complex networks.Employing methodologies such as the gravity model and Moran's I analysis, it explores the spatial structural characteristics and correlation patterns of the power battery supply network in China and discusses the influencing factors using the quadratic assignment procedure,revealing the mechanisms behind the differences in the spatial distributions of the power battery supply network. The results indicate that the distribution of power battery enterprises is densely concentrated in the eastern and southern regions, whereas the western region has a sparse distribution. The spatial supply network consists of a four-tier linkage system, encompassing 135 prefecture-level cities, with Chongqing, Shanghai, Nanjing, and other cities particularly prominent. Overall, the degree of agglomeration is low, with coastal cities dominating the landscape and inland cities serving as complementary regions. Most areas are characterized as insignificant or low-high regions, and the regional linkage effect of core cities is not pronounced. There is a notable lack of significance and high spatial heterogeneity.Four types of factors—spatial factors, market factors, agglomeration economies, and innovation levels—jointly influence and shape the spatial structure of the power battery supply network. 展开更多

The Blockchain Neural Network Superior to Deep Learning for Improving the Trust of Supply Chain

With the increasing importance of supply chain transparency,blockchain-based data has emerged as a valuable and verifiable source for analyzing procurement transaction risks.This study extends the mathematical model and proof of‘the Overall Performance Characteristics of the Supply Chain’to encompass multiple variables within blockchain data.Utilizing graph theory,the model is further developed into a single-layer neural network,which serves as the foundation for constructing two multi-layer deep learning neural network models,Feedforward Neural Network(abbreviated as FNN)and Deep Clustering Network(abbreviated as DCN).Furthermore,this study retrieves corporate data from the Chunghwa Yellow Pages online resource and Taiwan Economic Journal database(abbreviated as TEJ).These data are then virtualized using‘the Metaverse Algorithm’,and the selected virtualized blockchain variables are utilized to train a neural network model for classification.The results demonstrate that a single-layer neural network model,leveraging blockchain data and employing the Proof of Relation algorithm(abbreviated as PoR)as the activation function,effectively identifies anomalous enterprises,which constitute 7.2%of the total sample,aligning with expectations.In contrast,the multi-layer neural network models,DCN and FNN,classify an excessively large proportion of enterprises as anomalous(ranging from one-fourth to one-third),which deviates from expectations.This indicates that deep learning may still be inadequate in effectively capturing or identifying malicious corporate behaviors associated with distortions in procurement transaction data.In other words,procurement transaction blockchain data possesses intrinsic value that cannot be replaced by artificial intelligence(abbreviated as AI). 展开更多

The method extends the scope of optimisation and improves the accuracy at each iteration by incorporating adaptive parameter selection and a more general subgradient projection operator. The advantages of the proposed method are highlighted by the proof of strong convergence presented in the paper. Several concrete examples are given to demonstrate the effectiveness of the algorithm, with comparisons illustrating its superior CPU running time compared to alternative techniques. The practical applicability of the algorithm is also demonstrated by applying it to a realistic supply chain network model. 展开更多

Ensuring reliable power supply in urban distribution networks is a complex and critical task.To address the increased demand during extreme scenarios,this paper proposes an optimal dispatch strategy that considers the coordination with virtual power plants(VPPs).The proposed strategy improves systemflexibility and responsiveness by optimizing the power adjustment of flexible resources.In the proposed strategy,theGaussian Process Regression(GPR)is firstly employed to determine the adjustable range of aggregated power within the VPP,facilitating an assessment of its potential contribution to power supply support.Then,an optimal dispatch model based on a leader-follower game is developed to maximize the benefits of the VPP and flexible resources while guaranteeing the power balance at the same time.To solve the proposed optimal dispatch model efficiently,the constraints of the problem are reformulated and resolved using the Karush-Kuhn-Tucker(KKT)optimality conditions and linear programming duality theorem.The effectiveness of the strategy is illustrated through a detailed case study. 展开更多

The classical supply chain network(SCN)design problem is extended,where the candidate facilities are subject to failure and the products are prone to elapsed time deteriorion.First,the reliable SCN design problem is defined by introducing the probability that a facility may be prone to inactivity based on the analysis of perishable product characteristics.The perishable product SCN design problem is formulated as a 0-1 integer programming model.The objective is to minimize the weighted sum of the operating cost(the fixed plus transportation cost)and the expected failure cost.And then,the perishable product SCN design model is discussed and solved using the genetic algorithm(GA).The results show how to generate the tradeoff curve between the operating costs and the expected failure costs.And these tradeoff curves demonstrate empirically that substantial improvements in reliability are often possible with minimal increase in the operating costs. 展开更多

Contract is a common and effective mechanism for supply chain coordination,which has been studied extensively in recent years.For a supply chain network model,contracts can be used to coordinate it because it is too ideal to obtain the network equilibrium state in practical market competition.In order to achieve equilibrium,we introduce revenue sharing contract into a supply chain network equilibrium model with random demand in this paper.Then,we investigate the influence on this network equilibrium state from demand disruptions caused by unexpected emergencies.When demand disruptions happen,the supply chain network equilibrium state will be broken and change to a new one,so the decision makers need to adjust the contract parameters to achieve the new coordinated state through bargaining.Finally,a numerical example with a sudden demand increase as a result of emergent event is provided for illustrative purposes. 展开更多

As the huge computation and easily trapped local optimum in remanufacturing closed-loop supply chain network (RCSCN) design considered, a genetic particle swarm optimization algorithm was proposed. The total cost of closed-loop supply chain was selected as fitness function, and a unique and tidy coding mode was adopted in the proposed algorithm. Then, some mutation and crossover operators were introduced to achieve discrete optimization of RCSCN structure. The simulation results show that the proposed algorithm can gain global optimal solution with good convergent performance and rapidity. The computing speed is only 22.16 s, which is shorter than those of the other optimization algorithms. 展开更多

The supply chain network with capacity constraints of manufacturers and retailers is considered.The linkage between supply chain network equilibrium and transportation network equilibrium is investigated.By analyzing the relationships among the manufacturers,retailers and consumers in the supply chain network and their own decisions concerning maximum profits,a combined variational inequality for the supply chain network equilibrium mode is proposed.Then an equivalent supernetwork of the supply chain network is constructed by adding additional links which denote the producing of manufactures and the handling of retailers.By the supernetwork,the supply chain network equilibrium model can be reformulated as a transportation network equilibrium model.Equivalent mathematical programming is,therefore,obtained based on the principle of a Wardrop user equilibrium.The corresponding Lagrange multiplier of the capacity constraints can be explained as the extra cost of marginal production when capacity is exceeded.A numerical example is given to illustrate the rationality of the model and the validity of the results. 展开更多

An urban water supply network(WSN)is a crucial lifeline system that helps to maintain the normal functioning of modern society.However,the hydraulic analysis of a significantly damaged WSN that suffers from pipe breaks or leaks remains challenging.In this paper,a probability-based framework is proposed to assess the functionality of WSNs in the aftermath of powerful earthquakes.The serviceability of the WSN is quantified by using a comprehensive index that considers nodal water flow and nodal pressure.This index includes a coefficient that reflects the relative importance of these two parameters.The demand reduction(DR)method,which reduces the water flow of nodes while preventing the negative pressure of nodes,is proposed.The difference between the negative pressure elimination(NPE)method and the DR method is discussed by using the example of a WSN in a medium-sized city in China.The functionality values of the WSN are 0.76 and 0.99 when nodal pressure and nodal demands are used respectively as the index of system serviceability at an intensity level that would pertain to an earthquake considered to occur at a maximum level.When the intensity of ground motion is as high as 0.4 g,the DR method requires fewer samples than the NPE method to obtain accurate results.The NPE method eliminates most of the pipes,which may be unrealistic. 展开更多

The serviceability of water supply networks(WSNs)under seismic loads has significant importance for estimating the probable losses and the impact of diminished functionality on affected communities.The innovation presented in this paper is suggesting a new strategy to evaluate the seismic serviceability of WSNs,utilizing their operational physical mechanism.On one hand,this method can obtain the seismic serviceability of each node as well as entire WSNs.On the other hand,this method can dynamically reflect the propagation of randomness from ground motions to WSNs.First,a finite element model is established to capture the seismic response of buried pipe networks,and a leakage model is suggested to obtain the leakage area of WSNs.Second,the transient flow analysis of WSNs with or without leakage is derived to obtain dynamic water flow and pressure.Third,the seismic serviceability of WSNs is analyzed based on the probability density evolution method(PDEM).Finally,the seismic serviceability of a real WSN in Mianzhu city is assessed to illustrate the method.The case study shows that randomness from the ground motions can obviously affect the leakage state and the probability density of the nodal head during earthquakes. 展开更多

An integrated dynamic model of natural gas pipeline networks is developed in this paper.Components for gas supply,e.g.,pipelines,junctions,compressor stations,LNG terminals,regulation stations and gas storage facilities are included in the model.These components are firstly modeled with respect to their properties and functions and,then,integrated at the system level by Graph Theory.The model can be used for simulating the system response in different scenarios of operation,and evaluate the consequences from the perspectives of supply security and resilience.A case study is considered to evaluate the accuracy of the model by benchmarking its results against those from literature and the software Pipeline Studio.Finally,the model is applied on a relatively complex natural gas pipeline network and the results are analyzed in detail from the supply security and resilience points of view.The main contributions of the paper are:firstly,a novel model of a complex gas pipeline network is proposed as a dynamic state-space model at system level;a method,based on the dynamic model,is proposed to analyze the security and resilience of supply from a system perspective. 展开更多

Water supply network losses are an international problem especially in countries suffering from water scarcity like Jordan. Jordan is one of the poorest countries in its water resources and it is estimated to be below the water poverty line. Jordan is located in the Middle East and has a surface area of approximately 90,000 km2. Its population is around 6.3 million and it is estimated that the population will be 7.8 million in 2022. The gap between water supply and demand is widening due to development and a relatively high population growth rate. In addition, global climate change is expected to intensify the water shortage problem in Jordan. Thirteen years of complete records obtained from the Ministry of Water and Irrigation were analyzed. According to these records, water losses in Jordan reach about 50%. In view of the evaluation of the data and the case study conducted in this research, it is believed that Jordan can overcome the water shortage problem by adopting a water demand management strategy. In this context, efforts should be focused on reducing water losses. If this is achieved, it will save huge quantities of water and revenue. 展开更多

In this work, the dynamics of networked goods distribution systems subject to the control of a continuous-review order-up-to inventory policy are investigated. In the analytical study, as opposed to the earlier models constrained to the serial and arborescent interconnection structures, an arbitrary multiechelon topology is considered. This external, uncertain demand,following any distribution, may be imposed on all network nodes,not just conveniently selected contact points. As in the physical systems, stock relocation to refill the reserves is subject to nonnegligible delay, which poses a severe stability threat and may lead to cost-inefficient decisions. A state-space model is created and used as the framework for analyzing system properties. In particular, it is formally demonstrated that despite unpredictable demand fluctuations, a feasible(nonnegative and bounded)reserves replenishment signal is generated at all times, and the stock gathered at the nodes does not surpass a finite, precisely determined level. The theoretical content is illustrated with a case study of the Chinese oil supply system. 展开更多

This paper presents four different hybrid genetic algorithms for network design problem in closed loop supply chain. They are compared using a complete factorial experiment with two factors, viz. problem size and algorithm. Based on the significance of the factor “algorithm”, the best algorithm is identified using Duncan’s multiple range test. Then it is compared with a mathematical model in terms of total cost. It is found that the best hybrid genetic algorithm identified gives results on par with the mathematical model in statistical terms. So, the best algorithm out of four algorithm proposed in this paper is proved to be superior to all other algorithms for all sizes of problems and its performance is equal to that of the mathematical model for small size and medium size problems. 展开更多
