Amidst the unique challenges faced by rural educators is their sense of decent work influenced by levels of social support, career self-efficacy,and marginalization. To investigate these relationships,we surveyed 435 rural school teachers(females=69.32%,mean years teaching experience=13.6,SD=7.7 years). The Structural Equation Modeling results indicated that social support positively predicts teachers’perceptions of decent work.Career self-efficacy mediated the relationship between social support and a higher sense of decent work, while marginalization mediated the relationship such that lower social support predicted lower perceptions of decent work.Career self-efficacy and marginalization also had a sequential mediation relationship:higher social support enhanced career self-efficacy,which in turn reduced marginalization experiences, ultimately improving teachers’perceptions of decent work. These findings align with the predictions of Social Cognitive Career Theory and the Psychology of Working Theory, demonstrating that environmental supports enhance personal psychological resources, reduce marginalization risks, and promote positive work-related outcomes. The study findings highlight the necessity for education departments to improve rural teachers’perceptions of decent work by providing social support to foster positive work experiences for teachers at high risk for marginalization and diminished career self-efficacy. 展开更多

Background:Resilience is crucial for medical college students to thrive in the highly stressful environment of medical education. However, the prevalence of problematic internet use(PIU)in this population may negatively impact their resilience. This study investigated the influence of problematic online gaming(PG)and problematic social media use(PSMU)on the resilience of medical college students in China. Methods:A sample of 5075 first-year medical college students from four Chinese universities was studied.PG served as the independent variable, resilience as the dependent variable, fatigue as the mediator, and PSMU as the moderator.Structural equation modeling was conducted using LISREL 8.80.Additionally,a moderated mediation model was evaluated using the jAMM module in jamovi 2.6.13.Results:The study’s findings revealed significant negative correlations between resilience and the variables of PG,PSMU,and fatigue.Fatigue mediated the relationship between PG and resilience(B=−0.04,95%CI=[−0.05,−0.03]).PSMU moderated the direct relationship between PG and resilience with the interaction term PG×PSMU significant(B=−0.004,t=−6.501,p<0.001)and the first stage(PG→fatigue)of the mediation with PG×PSMU significant(B=0.055,t=8.351,p<0.001).The detrimental effects of PG on resilience were more pronounced among individuals with lower levels of PSMU.Conclusion:This study concluded that addressing PIU,particularly PG,is essential for fostering resilience in medical college students. While PSMU itself is maladaptive, the underlying social media engagement may serve a protective role through social support in mitigating the adverse effects of PG on resilience. 展开更多

This study tested a chain mediation model on whether hopelessness and nostalgia play a mediating role in psychache and suicidal ideation of firefighters.A total of 652 firefighters participated in the survey(male=94.94%;mean age=23.71 years,SD=4.18 years). The firefighters completed the Chinese Revised Psychache Scale(PAS),Beck Hopelessness Scale(BHS),Southampton Nostalgia Scale(SNS),and Columbia-Suicide Severity Rating Scale(CSSRS).The path analysis results indicated that psychache positively predicted suicidal ideation.Hopelessness plays a significant mediating role between psychache and suicidal ideation further strengthening this relationship. In contrast, nostalgia mediates and weakened the relationship between psychache and suicidal ideation.Hopelessness and nostalgia jointly constructed a chain mediating effect between psychache and suicidal ideation, for higher suicidal ideation with higher hopelessness and lower nostalgia. The findings align with the Three-Step Theory of Suicide, which proposes that suicidal ideation results from the combination of pain and hopelessness and that connectedness is a key protective factor against escalating ideation. Therefore, interventions to reduce suicidal ideation in firefighters should aim to enhance their nostalgia, while reducing sense of hopelessness. 展开更多

Background:Interpersonal alienation has increasingly been recognized as a salient risk factor affecting university students’psychological adjustment and life satisfaction.Guided by Social Identity and Self-Categorization theories, this study examines how alienation influences life satisfaction through the mediating roles of social identity and hope. Methods:This study surveyed 492 Taiwan resident,China undergraduate students(53.7 percent female, mean age 21.08 years)from 60 universities using convenience sampling in May 2023.Data were collected through an online questionnaire distributed via faculty-managed teaching media platforms.Measures included perceived social identity, state hope, interpersonal alienation, and life satisfaction. All instrumentswere adapted from validated scales, translated into traditional Chinese through back-translation,and reviewed by experts to ensure content validity and cultural relevance.Statistical analyses were conducted using SPSS 20 and SmartPLS 4.0.Results:Harman’s single-factor test indicated no significant common method bias.Measurement model analyses demonstrated satisfactory reliability, convergent validity, and absence of multicollinearity. All four hypothesized paths were supported:interpersonal alienation negatively predicted life satisfaction, with perceived social identity and hope serving as individual and sequential mediators. The model explained 10.5%of the variance in social identity,25.3%in hope, and 49.6%in life satisfaction.Group comparisons revealed that male students reported significantly higher hope and life satisfaction than females, and first-year students experienced greater alienation than upper-level peers. Conclusion:This study elucidates how interpersonal alienation undermines life satisfaction among university students and highlights the protective roles of social identity and hope.Findings underscore the importance of fostering psychological resources that promote resilience and well-being.The results offer practical implications for designing educational programs that enhance students’sense of belonging, optimism, and emotional strength. These insights contribute to a deeper theoretical understanding of the mechanisms linking alienation and life satisfaction and inform strategies to support student adaptation and flourishing in higher education. 展开更多

Background:Fundamental internal factors like self-construal and its influence on problematic online game use(POGU)remain underexplored.Hence, this study aims to investigate the effects of independent and interdependent self-construal on POGU,with the mediation of basic psychological needs satisfaction. Methods:The study surveyed 418 Chinese junior high school students(50.24%male;Meanage=12.68,SD=0.65),assessing their levels of self-construal,basic psychological needs satisfaction, and POGU.Aparallelmediationmodelwas tested. Results:The findings showed that autonomy and competence needs satisfaction fully mediated the negative impact of independent self-construal on POGU(B=−0.052,p<0.05;B=−0.094,p<0.01,respectively),while interdependent self-construal and relatedness needs satisfaction did not have a significant effect on POGU(B=0.005,p=0.758).Additionally,while independent self-construal positively correlated with the satisfaction of all three psychological needs, interdependent self-construal only positively associated with relatedness need satisfaction(B=0.152,p<0.001).Conclusions:The study demonstrates that independent self-construal serves as a protective factor against POGU,mediated by autonomy and competence needs satisfaction, while the effects of interdependent self-construal are more complex. These insights highlight the need for tailored interventions that promote adaptive self-construal and psychological needs satisfaction among Chinese adolescents to prevent POGU. 展开更多

Background: Identifying correlates of physical activity that can be targeted as potential mediators is important for developing interventions to promote physical activity in adolescent girls. However, the mediated effects of multilevel correlates of physical activity remain poorly understood. Therefore, the present study aimed to examine direct and mediated effects of personal, social and perceived school physical environmental factors on school-based physical activity of Japanese adolescent girls. Methods: In this cross-sectional survey of the Japanese adolescent lifestyles, 344 junior high school girls were invited to complete self-report measures of age, grade, weight, height, self-efficacy, social support (family, friends and teachers), perceived school physical environment (equipment, facilities and safety) and physical activity at school (min per week during lunch time and after- school hours). Structural equation modeling analysis controlling for age was performed to examine the effects of body mass index (BMI), self-efficacy, social support and school physical environmental variables on lunchtime and after-hours physical activity. Results: The final structural model demonstrated an acceptable fit for each context-specific physical activity. During lunch recess, perceived equipment and friend support exhibited direct effects on physical activity;perceived facilities, safety, and self-efficacy were indirectly associated with physical activity through friend support. During after-school hours, both family and friend support directly affected physical activity at school;perceived safety, facilities and self-efficacy exhibited indirect effects on physical activity through family or friend support. However, there were no significant associations between equipment and after-school-hours physical activity. Regardless of contexts, BMI had neither direct nor indirect effects on physical activity. Conclusion: Social support from family and friends was identified as factors mediating the effects of perceived environment and self-efficacy on school-based physical activity among Japanese adolescent girls. This finding encourages the future development of effective interventions to promote physical activity through family and friend support in the future. 展开更多

Heavy-equipment airdrop is a highly risky procedure that has a complicated system due to the secluded and complex nature of factors' coupling. As a result, it is difficult to study the modeling and safety simulation of this system. The dynamic model of the heavy-equipment airdrop is based on the Lagrange analytical mechanics, which has all the degrees of freedom and can accurately pinpoint the real-time coordinates and attitude of the carrier with its cargo. Unfavorable conditions accounted in the factors' models, including aircraft malfunctions and adverse environments, are established from a man-machine-environment perspective. Subsequently, a virtual simulation system for the safety research of the multi-factor coupling heavy-equipment airdrop is developed through MATLAB/Simulink, C language and Flightgear software. To verify the veracity of the theory, the verification model is built based on dynamic software ADAMS. Finally, the emulation is put to the test with the input of realistic accident variables to ascertain its feasibility and validity of this method. 展开更多

Deepwater oil and gas projects embody high risks from geology and engineering aspects, which exert substantial influence on project valuation. But the uncer- tainties may be converted to additional value to the projects in the case of flexible management. Given the flexibility of project management, this paper extends the classical real options model to a multi-factor model which contains oil price, geology, and engineering uncertainties. It then gives an application example of the new model to evaluate deepwater oil and gas projects with a numerical analytical method. Compared with other methods and models, this multi-factor real options model contains more project information. It reflects the potential value deriving not only from oil price variation but also from geology and engi- neering uncertainties, which provides more accurate and reliable valuation information for decision makers. 展开更多

Adipose-derived stromal cells (ASCs) have gained great attention in regenerative medicine. Progress in our understanding of adult neovascularization further suggests the potential of ASCs in promoting vascular regeneration, although the specific cues that stimulate their angiogenic behavior remain controversial In this study, we established a three-dimensional (3D) angiogenesis model by co-culturing ASCs and endothelial cells (ECs) in collagen gel and found that ASC-EC-instructed angiogenesis was regulated by the canonical Wnt pathway. Furthermore, the angiogenesis that occurred in implants collected after injections of our collagen gel- based 3D angiogenesis model into nude mice was confirmed to be functional and also regulated by the canonical Wnt pathway. Wnt regulation of angiogenesis involving changes in vessel length, vessel density, vessel sprout, and connection numbers occurred in our system. Wnt signaling was then shown to regulate ASC- mediated paracrine signaling during angiogenesis through the nuclear translocation of β-catenin after its cytoplasmic accumulation in both ASCs and ECs. This translocation enhanced the expression of nuclear cofactor Lef-1 and cyclin D1 and activated the angiogenic transcription of vascular endothelial growth factor A (VEGFA), basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF), and insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1). The angiogenesis process in the 3D collagen model appeared to follow canonical Wnt signaling, and this model can help us understand the importance of the canonical Wnt pathway in the use of ASCs in vascular regeneration. 展开更多

Modeling the kinetics of the preparing process is necessary to produce a product with the appropriate particle properties and minimum production cost.Owing to the lackness of crystal size distributor (CSD) information,however,solvent-mediated phase transformation encounters difficulty in modeling the kinetics as compared to solution crystallization.Consequently,a model was established by making the product CSD to move along by horizontal translation to obtain the CSDs of the stable phase in the process of transformation. Then the moment method was used to solve the popular balance equation, and the least square nonlinear regression method was applied to estimate the kinetics parameters. The model has been successfully used to simulate the transformation of CaSO4?2H2O to α-CaSO4?1/2H2O in an isothermal seeded batch crystallizer with different stirring speeds, and it is beneficial to producing high performance α-CaSO4?1/2H2O crystals which have the right particle characteristics. 展开更多

With the expanding enrollments in higher education, the quality of col-lege education and the learning gains of students have attracted much attention. It is important to study the influencing factors and mechanisms of individual stu-dents’acquisition of learning gains to improve the quality of talent cultivation in colleges. However,in the context of information security, the original data of learning situation surveys in various universities involve the security of educa-tional evaluation data and daily privacy of teachers and students. To protect the original data, data feature mining and correlation analyses were performed at the model level. This study selected 12,181 pieces of data from X University, which participated in the Chinese College Student Survey(CCSS)from 2018 to 2021.A confirmatory factor analysis was conducted and a structural equation modeling was conducted using AMOS 24.0.Through hypothesis testing, this study explored the mechanisms that influence learning gains from the per-spectives of student involvement, teacher involvement, and school support. The results indicated that the quality of student involvement has an important mediat-ing effect on learning gains and that a supportive campus environment has the greatest influence on learning gains.Establishing positive emotional communica-tions between teachers and students is a more direct and effective method than improving the teaching level to improve the quality of student involvement. This study discusses the implications of these results on the research and practice of connotative development in higher education. 展开更多

Dominant intermediate Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease type C(DI-CMTC) is a dominantly inherited neuropathy that has been classified primarily based on motor conduction velocity tests but is now known to involve axonal and demyelination features.DI-CMTC is linked to tyrosyl-t RNA synthetase(YARS)-associated neuropathies, which are caused by E196 K and G41 R missense mutations and a single de novo deletion(153-156 del VKQV).It is well-established that these YARS mutations induce neuronal dysfunction, morphological symptoms involving axonal degeneration, and impaired motor performance. The present study is the first to describe a novel mouse model of YARS-mutation-induced neuropathy involving a neuron-specific promoter with a deleted mitochondrial targeting sequence that inhibits the expression of YARS protein in the mitochondria. An adenovirus vector system and in vivo techniques were utilized to express YARS fusion proteins with a Flag-tag in the spinal cord, peripheral axons, and dorsal root ganglia.Following transfection of YARS-expressing viruses, the distributions of wild-type(WT) YARS and E196 K mutant proteins were compared in all expressed regions; G41 R was not expressed. The proportion of Flag/green fluorescent protein(GFP) double-positive signaling in the E196 K mutant-type mice did not significantly differ from that of WT mice in dorsal root ganglion neurons. All adenovirus genes, and even the empty vector without the YARS gene, exhibited GFP-positive signaling in the ventral horn of the spinal cord because GFP in an adenovirus vector is driven by a cytomegalovirus promoter. The present study demonstrated that anatomical differences in tissue can lead to dissimilar expressions of YARS genes. Thus, use of this novel animal model will provide data regarding distributional defects between mutant and WT genes in neurons, the DICMTC phenotype, and potential treatment approaches for this disease. 展开更多

This letter critically examines a recent study by Zhang et al investigating the mediating role of overweight in the association between depression and new-onset diabetes among middle-aged and older adults. The study provides com-pelling evidence that overweight mediates approximately 61%of this relationship, suggesting that depression may contribute to diabetes by influencing behaviors that lead to weight gain. This aligns with the understanding that depression can impact appetite regulation and physical activity. While the study employs a longitudinal design and robust statistical methods, limitations such as reliance on self-reported data and body mass index measurements warrant consideration. This analysis emphasizes the need for integrated interventions that address both mental and metabolic health for effective diabetes prevention.Future research should further explore the interplay of lifestyle factors, biological pathways, and social determinants in the development of this complex relationship.Ultimately,an integrated approach targeting both behavioral and biological components is crucial for the prevention and management of new-onset diabetes. 展开更多

Background:Recent scholarly attention has increasingly focused on filial piety beliefs'impact on youth's psychological development. However, the mechanisms by which filial piety indirectly influences adolescent autonomy through depression and well-being remain underexplored. This study aimed to test a sequential mediation model among filial piety beliefs,depression,well-being,and autonomy in Taiwan region of China university students. Methods:A total of 566 Taiwan region of China undergraduate and graduate students, comprising 390 females and 176 males, and including 399 undergraduates and 167 graduate students, were recruited through convenience sampling.Data were collected via an online questionnaire.Validated instruments were employed, including the Filial Piety Scale(FPS),the Center for Epidemiological Studies Depression Scale(CES-D),the Chinese Well-being Inventory(CHI),and the Adolescent Autonomy Scale-Short Form(AAS-SF).Statistical analyses included group comparisons, correlation analyses, and structural equation modeling to examine the hypothesized relationships and mediation effects. Results:The results revealed that filial piety beliefs exerted a significant positive impact on adolescent autonomy, with depression and well-being serving as key mediators in this relationship.A sequential mediation effect was confirmed through structural equation modeling(β=0.052,95%CI[0.028,0.091]),with good model fit indices(x^(2)/df=4.25,RMSEA=0.076,CFI=0.968),supporting the hypothesized pathway from filial piety to autonomy via depression and well-being.In terms of demographic differences, male students showed significantly higher autonomy than females(p<0.001);students from single-parent families reported significantly higher depression levels than those from two-parent families(p<0.05);and graduate students exhibited significantly higher autonomy and well-being than undergraduates(p<0.05).Conclusions:These findings underscore not only the importance of filial piety beliefs for developing youth autonomy but also the critical role that mental health factors, such as depression and well-being,play in this process. The study concludes with a discussion of both theoretical implications and practical recommendations. These include strategies to foster reciprocal filial piety, strengthen parent-child relationships, and promote mental health.Additionally, the study outlines its limitations and proposes directions for future research. 展开更多
