Development of TNU-SuperSID Teaching Module for Observing the Effects of Solar Activities on the Lower Ionosphere

Department of Physics, Faculty of Natural Science and Technology, Tay Nguyen university has collaborated with Stanford Solar Center of Stanford university on Space Weather monitor project. We have developed the TNU-SuperSID teaching module which has three main parts: antenna, preamplifier and data logger. This module can detect the variation of Very Low Frequency (VLF, 3 - 30 kHz) signals during sunrise and sunset transition, and sudden ionospheric disturbance due to solar flares. In other word, the behavior of the Earth's lower ionosphere corresponding the solar activities is understood by using VLF technique. Our project helps undergraduate students who are learning the astrophysics and space physics to enhance their knowledge in space science and their technical skills with real experiments. Through the participant in this project, students can also be gained their skills such as communication, working in team, processing data, etc. 展开更多

Genetics is a major course in Life Sciences,and also a basic course in other disciplines or specialties,such as Agricultural Sciences,Medical Sciences and etc.Genetic experiments are not only the important content of the undergraduate teaching in Life Science but also the most common and efficient teaching approach in Life Science.Based on an introduction to reform and innovation of genetics experiment instruction,this article aims at discussing how to classify experimental modules and teaching practices.In our experimental test,the whole experiments consist of three modules:general experiments,integrated experiments,and research-based experiments.The research-based experiment is given as an instance.We herein figure out the instruction of experiment contents and guidance of learning methods,corresponding to various requirements in different teaching stage.In our opinion,post-graduates can act as teaching-assistants,which will facilitate undergraduates to participate in genetic experiments,improve their ability to operate by hand,and foster their innovative consciousness and scientific-thinking ability. 展开更多

This pilot study examined the effectiveness and students’perceptions of a multimedia module on intermediate Chinese-as-a-Foreign-Language(CFL)learners’understanding and use of the“shì...de”construction.The module was designed based on the First Principles of Instruction(Morrill,2002)and the Cognitive Theory of Multimedia Learning(Mayer,2009;2014).It provided a systematic and comprehensive approach to teaching the“shì...de”construction,one of the most challenging grammar points in CFL.Twenty-two CFL learners participated in this mixed-methods study.Data were collected using pre-and post-tests,a survey,think-alouds,and semi-structured interviews.Findings show that after using the module,students’understanding and use of the construction significantly improved,except for their understanding of the second usage.The students enjoyed using the module and appreciated how it was designed,the way it was presented,and its availability.The reasons for the effectiveness of the module were analyzed and led to suggested improvements to the design of the module.The detailed description of the design process and the research result contribute to the knowledge of designing grammar teaching modules with multimedia for online,blended,and flipped learning. 展开更多

Online Case Based Self-Study Modules as an Adjunct Learning Tool in Otorhinolaryngology: A Pilot Study

Background/Need for innovation: Undergraduate students in Otolaryngology are on the lookout for easy modes of learning which can help them understand concepts better as well as score more in examinations. A need was hence felt to introduce a new learning resource to supplement traditional teaching-learning methods. Methods: Digital, case based self–study modules were prepared using all open source technology and validated by experts in the specialty. The modules were uploaded on a website specifically created for the purpose. They were pilot tested on twenty consenting third year undergraduate (MBBS) students using a crossover design. Post test comprising of multiple choice questions was administered to the students after a period of two weeks. Feedback was obtained from faculty and students. Results: Test scores were found to be significantly higher amongst students who used the learning modules as a supplement to regular bedside teaching (p < 0.001;Wilcoxon signed rank test). Majority of students agreed that the modules helped them gain confidence during internal assessment examinations and would help revision. Conclusions: Online, case based, self-study modules helped students to perform better when used as a supplement to traditional teaching methods. Students agreed that it enabled easy understanding of subject and helped them gain confidence. 展开更多

目的 探讨通关教学法用于中药药理与应用课程的效果,提升高职高专中医药教育的教学质量。方法 随机选择江西中医药高等专科学校2020级中药专业两个班级,设为实验班和对照班。应用通关教学法的实验班采用模块通关的模式组织教学和作业,... 目的 探讨通关教学法用于中药药理与应用课程的效果,提升高职高专中医药教育的教学质量。方法 随机选择江西中医药高等专科学校2020级中药专业两个班级,设为实验班和对照班。应用通关教学法的实验班采用模块通关的模式组织教学和作业,通关方式采用个人通关和团队通关相结合的方式。通关模块分为八大模块,即中药药性理论模块和七法中药模块,七法中药选自八法中药,包含汗法药、和法药、下法药、清法药、温法药、消法药和补法药。对照班采用课堂讲解和课后作业的传统模式开展。最后对学生成绩进行统计学分析。结果 教学实验表明,实验班的平均成绩优于对照班(P<0.05)。结论 通关教学法可以有效提高学生学习的兴趣、目标性和竞争性,有利于教学效果的全面提升。 展开更多

针对人工智能深度学习在本科实验教学应用中存在算法复杂度高、工程适配性不足的问题,将人工智能技术与石油机械类专业实验教学相融合,设计了一套基于改进YOLOv5算法的连续油管缺陷检测实验。通过改进的YOLOv5算法,结合Mish激活函数、改... 针对人工智能深度学习在本科实验教学应用中存在算法复杂度高、工程适配性不足的问题,将人工智能技术与石油机械类专业实验教学相融合,设计了一套基于改进YOLOv5算法的连续油管缺陷检测实验。通过改进的YOLOv5算法,结合Mish激活函数、改进Mosaic数据增强、引入S2-MLPV2注意力机制、骨干网络中加入可变形卷积模块,实现对连续油管表面缺陷区域的信息采集、特征提取、目标定位与分类。实验结果表明,相比经典YOLOv5s模型,改进YOLOv5-M9S2D模型的精确度和召回率均有所提升,分别为1.9%和2.2%;在保持原有检测速度的情况下mAP值提高了1.6%;并且几乎不增加模型容量。通过实验案例,使学生深化了对人工智能深度学习的理解,掌握了工业场景下模型部署与优化的关键技术,培养了学生利用人工智能技术解决石油机械工程问题的能力。 展开更多
