It is not known if psychostimulants decrease symptoms of both ADHD and alexithymia. This relationship is examined in a small naturalistic and longitudinal study. Participants: Ten consecutive stimulant-naive college students seek assessment and treatment for ADHD during the academic year. Method: Participants completed three self-report instruments quantifying ADHD symptomatology, alexithymia, and psychological mindedness prior to initiation of stimulant pharmacotherapy and after three and six months of medication treatment without formal psychotherapy. Results: ADHD symptoms decreased significantly from baseline to three months and remained low at six months. Decreases in alexithymia and increases in psychological mindedness changed more slowly, with significant differences occurring at six months compared to baseline. Conclusions: This study suggests that stimulant pharmacotherapy in college students with ADHD decreases ADHD symptoms and alexithymia while increasing psychological mindedness. These results have implications for untreated adult ADHD patients seeking psychotherapy.展开更多

This is unfortunate because most psychiatry resident interns feel that they are finally among the group where they belong… like-minded physicians who share a fascination with human nature and a desire to grasp all the nuances and complexities of human behavior. This paper provides a framework for psychiatry departments to train residents along a continuum of psychological mindedness. The authors explain the concept of psychological mindedness, explore the pros and cons of acquiring psychological mindedness, and a scientific basis for its use in general psychiatry. A new model is included to capture any resident’s ability to become psychologically minded, with direction for Program Director’s to possibly develop growth in a resident’s psychological mindedness over four years of training.展开更多

文摘BACKGROUND Anxiety complicates recovery in esophagectomy patients undergoing esophagectomy, while preoperative depressive symptoms may further delay surgeryassociated malnutrition resolution, highlighting a critical need for psychological intervention.AIM To explore the correlation of anxiety and depression with mindfulness levels in patients undergoing esophagectomy for esophageal cancer and analyze associated risk factors.METHODS A total of 120 patients with esophageal cancer, all of whom underwent esophagectomy in The Affiliated Yongchuan Hospital of Chongqing Medical University between September 2022 and September 2024,were enrolled. The hospital anxiety and depression scale(HADS)was utilized to evaluate the anxiety(HADS-anxiety subscale,HADS-A)and depression(HADS-depression subscale,HADS-D)levels of these patients, and the Mindful Attention Awareness Scale(MAAS)was employed to assess their mindfulness levels. The relationships among anxiety, depression, and mindfulness levels were analyzed, and both univariate and multivariate analyses were conducted to identify the risk factors for anxiety and depression in these patients.RESULTS Data revealed that the mean HADS-A score of patients undergoing esophagectomy was(10.43±4.24)points,and 40.00%,35.00%,and 10.83%of the patients had mild, moderate, and severe anxiety, respectively. The mean HADS-D score https://www.wjgnet.com 2 September 19,2025 Volume 15 Issue 9 was(9.20±4.66)points,and 37.50%,23.33%,and 9.17%of the patients had mild, moderate, and severe depression, respectively.Patients with negative or mild anxiety(or depression)exhibited significantly higher MAAS scores than those with moderate or severe anxiety(or depression). The HADS-A and HADS-D scores showed a strong and negative correlation with the MAAS score.Univariate and multivariate analyses demonstrated that sex(P=0.006),age(P=0.017),per capita monthly household income(P=0.005),and educational level(P=0.004)were all independently associated with the exacerbation of anxiety in patients undergoing esophagectomy.Age(P=0.026),living status(P=0.005),per capita monthly household income(P=0.024),educational level(P=0.002),and postoperative complications(P<0.001)were all independently related to the aggravation of depression in such patients.CONCLUSION This study indicated a significant negative correlation among anxiety, depression, and mindfulness levels in patients undergoing esophagectomy.Sex,age, per capita monthly household income, and educational level were risk factors for anxiety in patients undergoing esophagectomy, whereas age, living status, per capita monthly household income, educational level, and postoperative complications were risk factors for depression.

文摘BACKGROUND Psychotic disorders are characterized by both positive symptoms(hallucinations, delusions)and negative symptoms(emotional blunting, anhedonia)that impair daily functioning. While antipsychotic drugs and psychological interventions are effective when addressing positive symptoms, treatment of negative symptoms remains an ongoing challenge.Mindfulness-based interventions(MBIs)have been shown to reduce negative psychotic symptoms. However,as negative psychotic symptoms are assessed as a sole entity rather than a sum of manifestations, the effect of MBIs remains unclear.AIM To examine the effects of MBI in addition to integrated rehabilitation treatment(IRT)for people experiencing psychosis on each of the negative psychotic symptoms.METHODS A randomized controlled clinical trial with preintervention and postintervention measures was designed. The main outcome variable was negative psychotic symptoms assessed through the seven subscales of the Spanish version of the positive and negative syndrome scale.Data were analyzed using a repeated measures analysis of variance and reliable change index calculation.RESULTS There were no statistical differences between groups at the preintervention assessment.Statistically significant differences were found after MBI for the time in emotional withdrawal(F=37.75,P<0.001,η2=0.437)and social withdrawal(F=37.75,P<0.001,η2=0.437).CONCLUSION MBI added to IRT reduced the lack of interest and involvement with affective commitment to daily life activities, and interest and engagement in social activities increased. These negative psychotic symptoms were not improved by IRT alone.
文摘Background:While traditional meditation practices are known for their mental health benefits, they often face limitations such as restricted access and environmental distractions. To address these challenges and enhance meditation effectiveness, this study implemented an immersive virtual reality meditation(IVRM)program and examined its potentialmental health benefits among university students-a population that frequently experiences significant psychological distress. Methods:Nineteen university students participated in eight 15-min sessions of an IVRM program designed to promote mindfulness and relaxation over the course of one month.Perceived stress and anxiety levels were assessed using validated self-report measures at baseline(T1)and post-intervention(T2).Twotailed paired t-tests were conducted to evaluate the preliminary efficacy of the program, and effect sizes were reported using Cohen’s d.Results:Significant reductions were observed from pre-to post-intervention in perceived stress(t(18)=3.694,p<0.001,SE=0.17,d=−0.85)and perceived anxiety(t(18)=5.113,p<0.01,SE=0.10,d=−1.20),both indicating large effect sizes. Conclusion:Our findings provide preliminary evidence that the IVRMprogramcan reduce stress and anxiety levels in university students. The positive results suggest that IVRM has the potential to serve as a novel,technology-based meditation intervention for individuals at elevated risk for developingmental health disorders.Furthermore, our study suggests important implications for future research.
