The objective of this paper is to model the size-dependent thermo-mechanical behaviors of a shape memory polymer (SMP) microbeam.Size-dependent constitutive equations,which can capture the size effect of the SMP,are proposed based on the modified couple stress theory (MCST).The deformation energy expression of the SMP microbeam is obtained by employing the proposed size-dependent constitutive equation and Bernoulli-Euler beam theory.An SMP microbeam model,which includes the formulations of deflection,strain,curvature,stress and couple stress,is developed by using the principle of minimum potential energy and the separation of variables together.The sizedependent thermo-mechanical and shape memory behaviors of the SMP microbeam and the influence of the Poisson ratio are numerically investigated according to the developed SMP microbeam model.Results show that the size effects of the SMP microbeam are significant when the dimensionless height is small enough.However,they are too slight to be necessarily considered when the dimensionless height is large enough.The bending flexibility and stress level of the SMP microbeam rise with the increasing dimensionless height,while the couple stress level declines with the increasing dimensionless height.The larger the dimensionless height is,the more obvious the viscous property and shape memory effect of the SMP microbeam are.The Poisson ratio has obvious influence on the size-dependent behaviors of the SMP microbeam.The paper provides a theoretical basis and a quantitatively analyzing tool for the design and analysis of SMP micro-structures in the field of biological medicine,microelectronic devices and micro-electro-mechanical system (MEMS) self-assembling. 展开更多

为满足新的检测需求并实现高灵敏度,微梁生物传感器技术在信号解读模型的发展方面遭遇挑战.我们通过对表面吸附作用下微梁准静态检测信号的3D有限元模拟,揭示了微梁横截面翘曲的非对称分布特征,然而现有考虑剪切变形的理论模型无法描述... 为满足新的检测需求并实现高灵敏度,微梁生物传感器技术在信号解读模型的发展方面遭遇挑战.我们通过对表面吸附作用下微梁准静态检测信号的3D有限元模拟,揭示了微梁横截面翘曲的非对称分布特征,然而现有考虑剪切变形的理论模型无法描述这种非对称翘曲变形.针对这一问题,首先,将分子完全吸附简化为作用于微梁表面的均匀分布表面应力,通过3D有限元模拟获得翘曲零点分布规律.然后,利用平面弹性理论的半逆解法,在变形后的横截面上确定与非对称翘曲特征相适应的切应力分布和剪力,由此改进了Timoshenko梁理论,建立了预测微梁准静态检测信号的新模型.最后,通过比对实验结果和有限元模拟验证解析模型.结果表明,本文改进模型预测与有关微梁实验吻合良好,且在现有吸附-微梁静态实验所选用的几何尺寸范围内(长厚比200~500,长宽比3~7),本文改进模型关于微梁自由端挠度的预测误差(3%以内)均小于其它理论预测;剪切效应与轴力效应对微梁挠度的贡献为负,且剪切效应对微梁挠度的贡献明显大于轴力效应的贡献.本文模型和结论为微梁生物传感器静态检测信号的解读和有关设计提供了一种新的思路. 展开更多

In this paper, a purely mechanical model for the thermoelastic behavior of a bimorph microbeam is presented. The thermoelastic coupling problem of the microbeam is converted to a mechanical problem by simply replacing the thermal stress in the beam with a bulk force and a surface force. Thermoelastic deformation of the bimorph microbeams with constraints frequently used in micro-electro-mechanical systems (MEMS) devices has been derived based on this model and is characterized by FEA simulation. Coincidence of the results from theory and simulation demonstrates the validity of the model. The analysis shows that a bimorph microbeam with a soft constraint and a uniform temperature field has a larger thermoelastic deformation than that with a hard constraint and a linear temperature field. In addition to the adoption of materials with large CTE mismatch,thickness ratio and length ratio of the two layers need to be optimized to get a large thermoelastic deformation. 展开更多
