Characterizing the influence of stress-induced microcracks on the laboratory strength and fracture development in brittle rocks using a finite-discrete element method-micro discrete fracture network FDEM-μDFN approach 被引量:6

Heterogeneity is an inherent component of rock and may be present in different forms including mineralheterogeneity, geometrical heterogeneity, weak grain boundaries and micro-defects. Microcracks areusually observed in crystalline rocks in two forms: natural and stress-induced; the amount of stressinducedmicrocracking increases with depth and in-situ stress. Laboratory results indicate that thephysical properties of rocks such as strength, deformability, P-wave velocity and permeability areinfluenced by increase in microcrack intensity. In this study, the finite-discrete element method (FDEM)is used to model microcrack heterogeneity by introducing into a model sample sets of microcracks usingthe proposed micro discrete fracture network (mDFN) approach. The characteristics of the microcracksrequired to create mDFN models are obtained through image analyses of thin sections of Lac du Bonnetgranite adopted from published literature. A suite of two-dimensional laboratory tests including uniaxial,triaxial compression and Brazilian tests is simulated and the results are compared with laboratory data.The FDEM-mDFN models indicate that micro-heterogeneity has a profound influence on both the mechanicalbehavior and resultant fracture pattern. An increase in the microcrack intensity leads to areduction in the strength of the sample and changes the character of the rock strength envelope. Spallingand axial splitting dominate the failure mode at low confinement while shear failure is the dominantfailure mode at high confinement. Numerical results from simulated compression tests show thatmicrocracking reduces the cohesive component of strength alone, and the frictional strength componentremains unaffected. Results from simulated Brazilian tests show that the tensile strength is influenced bythe presence of microcracks, with a reduction in tensile strength as microcrack intensity increases. Theimportance of microcrack heterogeneity in reproducing a bi-linear or S-shape failure envelope and itseffects on the mechanisms leading to spalling damage near an underground opening are also discussed. 展开更多

The thermal-mechanical properties of the bi-material interfaces are classified based on discontinuity degrees of their material properties and their derivatives at the interfaces. Numerical results indicate that discontinuity exerts remarkable effect on the temperature profile and stress value at the interface of two bonded functionally-graded materials. The effect of micro-pore defect on the axial shortening of joints during LFW was examined. The x- and y-direction displacements of micro-pore during the LFW process were also studied. In addition, the shape of micro-pore after LFW was observed. The heat conducted from the weld inteace to the specimen interior. The fluctuation range of the temperature curves for the joint with micro-pore is larger than that without micro-pore. Position of micro-pore changes with the change of the friction time. The micro-mechanical response of asphalt mixtures was studied using the discrete element method. The discrete element sample of stone mastic asphalt was generated first and the vehicle load was applied to the sample. A user-written program was coded with the FISH language in PFC3 D to extract the contact forces within the sample and the displacements of the particles. Then, the contact forces within the whole sample, in asphalt mastic, in coarse aggregates and between asphalt mastic and coarse aggregates were investigated. Finally, the movement of the particles in the sample was analyzed. The sample was divided into 15 areas and a figure was drawn to show how the balls move in each area according to the displacements of the balls in each area. The displacements of asphalt mastic balls and coarse aggregates were also analyzed. The experimental results explain how the asphalt mixture bears vehicle load and the potential reasons why the rutting forms from a micro-mechanical view. 展开更多

目的利用Micro-CT扫描数据建立中耳听骨链三维有限元模型。方法用Micro-CT扫描成人颞骨标本,将获得的图像数据通过MicroView、Mimics等软件进行三维重建。再将模型转入其有限元分析(finite elementan alysis,FEA)模块的Remesh环境中进... 目的利用Micro-CT扫描数据建立中耳听骨链三维有限元模型。方法用Micro-CT扫描成人颞骨标本,将获得的图像数据通过MicroView、Mimics等软件进行三维重建。再将模型转入其有限元分析(finite elementan alysis,FEA)模块的Remesh环境中进行调整、细化及面网格优化,通过SOLIDEWORK软件转换为实体网格。结果初步形成的三维几何模型可较清晰地辨别鼓室腔、听小骨和内耳系统,但部分图像不同程度存在噪点。最终形成了FEA软件可识别的成人中耳听骨链三维有限元网格模型,网格划分后的听骨链有限元模型中,完整听骨链的节点数降低,由原来包括805个不合理节点在内的12498个节点降低到2050个,在此基础上建立的有限元模型共1350个8节点四面体单元。结论结合Micro-CT技术及Mimics软件的三维建模方法可以快速获得较精确的听骨链三维数据,是建立听骨链三维有限元模型的有效途径。 展开更多

Shallow water model was employed to approximate the three-dimensional flows of a thin micropump to a two-dimensional thickness-averaged flows. The finite element method and pressure correction algorithm were used to solve the two- dimensional flows of the pump and calculate the pump flow rate. The numerical results indicate that: 1 ) Phase differences in time of flow velocities and backflows occur across section of diffuser connecting to pump chamber; 2 ) A pair of symmetric vortexes appear inside the pump chamber at the end of suction flow phase; 3 ) The directional flow rate of the pump is dominated by nonlinearity of Navier-Stokes equations. Quantitative relations of the pump flow rate versus the ratio of diffuser length to width, the ratio of diffuser thickness to width, fluid viscosity and backpressure were also given. Possibly maximal flow rate can be achieved by optimizing the pump parameters. 展开更多

The vibro-acoustic responses and sound absorption characteristics of two kinds of periodically stiffened micro-perforated plates are analyzed theoretically. The connected periodical structures of the stiffened plates can be ribs or block-like structures. Based on fundamental acoustic formulas of the micro-perforated plate of Maa and Takahashi, semi-analytical models of the vibrating stiffened plates are developed in this paper. Approaches like the space harmonic method, Fourier transforms and finite element method (FEM) are adopted to investigate both kinds of the stiffened plates. In the present work, the vibro-acoustic responses of micro-perforated stiffened plates in the wavenumber space are expressed as functions of plate displacement amplitudes. After approximate numerical solutions of the amplitudes, the vibration equations and sound absorption coefficients of the two kinds of stiffened plates in the physical space are then derived by employing the Fourier inverse transform. In numerical examples, the effects of some physical parameters, such as the perforation ratio, incident angles and periodical distances etc., on the sound absorption performance are examined. The proposed approaches are also validated by comparing the present results with solutions of Takahashi and previous studies of stiffened plates. Numerical results indicate that the flexural vibration of the plate has a signif- icant effect on the sound absorption coefficient in the water but has little influence in the air. 展开更多

Each surface of roughness has different shape of asperity which is modeled with various shapes of analytical models. In this paper, the differences among various models of shape of asperity investigate using the Finite Element Method (FEM) and various analytical models. The contact stresses in rough surfaces are calculated analytically using various asperity shape models. Finite element analysis is also carried out assuming three types of material properties namely, the linear, the elastic-perfect plastic and the elastic-nonlinear hardening. The analytical results are compared with the results obtained by the finite element method. The results illustrate for using a deterministic approach which the numerical models are suitable. In hertz model, the result of force is very big in interface of causing deformation plastic, while Model Zhao has almost same result with FEM nonlinear property model. It is observed that the results obtained from Zhao’s model are generally in a better agreement with the results obtained from various finite element models especially in elastic-plastic and plastic zones, hence it may be concluded that Zhao’s model can be used for analyzing the rough surfaces in contact mechanics. 展开更多

To study the microstructural evolution of pearlite steel subjected to pure rolling and rolling-sliding contact loading,a hypoeutectoid pearlite steel with composition and microstructure similar to BS11 was designed and twindisc tests of this pearlite steel were performed to simulate the wheel/rail system.After a series of twin-disc tests,optical microscope(OM)observation,scanning electron microscope(SEM)observation,X-ray diffraction(XRD),and micro-hardness tests were conducted to characterize the microstructure.Under the pure rolling contact condition,a large amount of reticular cracks emerged within 60μm below the contact surface of the samples after 120 000 revolutions.The largest deformation was approximately 200μm below the contact surface.Under the rolling-sliding contact condition,the nodularization of pearlite within 100μm below the contact surface was obvious.The microstructure and stress-strain distribution of the area within 2mm below the contact surface were investigated.The distribution of micro-hardness under the contact surface varied with contact conditions.Finite element method(FEM)was used to simulate the stress-strain distribution.The results of SEM,FEM,and micro-hardness tests indicated that under the pure rolling contact condition,the maximum plastic strain was approximately 200-400μm below the contact surface.Conversely,under the rolling-sliding contact condition,the maximum plastic strain emerged on the contact surface.Under the pure rolling contact condition,the distribution of micro-hardness was almost identical to that of the equivalent plastic strain.Under the rolling-sliding contact condition,the distribution of micro-hardness was affected by the equivalent plastic strain and tangential stress. 展开更多

Discrete element method (DEM) is used in the present paper to simulate the microstructural evolution of a planar layer of copper particles during sintering. Formation of agglomerates and the effect of their rearrangement on densification are mainly focused on. Comparing to the existing experimental observations, we find that agglomerate can form spontaneously in sintering and its rearrangement could accelerate the densification of compacts. Snapshots of numerical simulations agree qualitatively well with experimental observations. The method could be readily extended to investigate the effect of agglomerate on sintering in a three- dimensional model, which should be very useful for understanding the evolution of microstructure of sintering systems. 展开更多

Under favorable conditions the localized plastic flow near the cracks may turninto macroscopic plastic strain thus affects the plasticity behaviors of the substrate. Thisphenomenon is analyzed quantitatively with finite element method with special attention focused onthe analysis and discussion of the effects of plastic work hardening rate, film thickness and crackdepth on maximum plastic strain, critical loading stress and the size of the local plasticdeformation zone. Results show that micro-cracks on thin hard film have unnegligible effects on theplasticity behaviors of the substrate material under tensile loading. 展开更多

隧道衬砌受硫酸盐侵蚀后的有效强度是评价运营隧道安全性的重要依据,但现有硫酸盐侵蚀试验为缩短试验周期而提高了侵蚀溶液中硫酸盐浓度,导致试验结果无法预测实际运营时间下受硫酸盐侵蚀隧道衬砌的有效强度。针对隧道衬砌的单面腐蚀特... 隧道衬砌受硫酸盐侵蚀后的有效强度是评价运营隧道安全性的重要依据,但现有硫酸盐侵蚀试验为缩短试验周期而提高了侵蚀溶液中硫酸盐浓度,导致试验结果无法预测实际运营时间下受硫酸盐侵蚀隧道衬砌的有效强度。针对隧道衬砌的单面腐蚀特点,本工作提出微元-分层法,并以此建立了考虑时间效应的隧道衬砌有效强度预测模型。选取重庆某受硫酸盐侵蚀隧道进行了工程案例分析,通过420 d的室内侵蚀试验和数值模拟,对有效强度预测模型的关键参数进行了求解,并与试验结果进行对比验证。进一步研究了该隧道在整体腐蚀和拱脚局部腐蚀情况下衬砌有效强度的变化规律。研究结果表明:提出的有效强度预测模型能够避免尺寸效应计算腐蚀衬砌的有效强度,其计算结果与试验结果吻合良好;在隧道衬砌有效强度损失阶段,损失速度随运营时间呈先慢后快的特点;在相同情况下,拱脚局部腐蚀时隧道衬砌的有效强度损失小于整体腐蚀。 展开更多

为探究含水砂岩胶结微细观结构特征变化与抗拉特性的关系和影响机制,以三峡库区常见的硅质胶结砂岩为研究对象,开展不同含水状态下砂岩的巴西劈裂试验及微细观结构测试;基于室内试验结果,提出含水砂岩胶结软化的颗粒流数值模拟方法,开... 为探究含水砂岩胶结微细观结构特征变化与抗拉特性的关系和影响机制,以三峡库区常见的硅质胶结砂岩为研究对象,开展不同含水状态下砂岩的巴西劈裂试验及微细观结构测试;基于室内试验结果,提出含水砂岩胶结软化的颗粒流数值模拟方法,开展砂岩劈裂数值模拟分析。结果表明:(1)含水状态对砂岩的抗拉强度和破坏特征均会产生影响。从干燥到饱水状态,砂岩抗拉强度下降了49.93%,破坏形态由沿中线笔直断裂向沿中线弧状弯曲断裂转变。(2)微细观测试结果发现,随含水率增大,砂岩劈裂断面的穿颗粒断裂破坏形式逐渐减少,转化为穿颗粒断裂与沿颗粒断裂复合破坏形式,很好地解释了砂岩宏观破坏特征随含水率的变化规律。(3)试验砂岩胶结物中存在增生型和沉淀型两种硅质胶结物,增生型胶结基本不受含水状态的影响,而沉淀型胶结易遇水软化,是砂岩抗拉强度随含水率变化的重要原因。(4)PFC^(3D)模拟发现,随沉淀型胶结软化程度的增加,试样裂纹起裂点逐渐提前,沉淀型胶结断裂逐渐取代增生型胶结断裂,最大接触力不断减小,抗拉强度呈降低趋势。 展开更多

针对锈蚀钢筋混凝土结构的力学性能评估问题,建立了基于比例边界有限元法(SBFEM)的计算框架。采用非线性弹簧单元模拟钢筋-混凝土界面黏结-滑移行为,通过非线性桁架单元表征锈蚀钢筋的力学性能,使用四叉树网格实现混凝土高效离散,引入... 针对锈蚀钢筋混凝土结构的力学性能评估问题,建立了基于比例边界有限元法(SBFEM)的计算框架。采用非线性弹簧单元模拟钢筋-混凝土界面黏结-滑移行为,通过非线性桁架单元表征锈蚀钢筋的力学性能,使用四叉树网格实现混凝土高效离散,引入非局部宏-微观损伤模型模拟混凝土开裂过程。拉拔试验模拟表明:该方法能准确模拟锈蚀界面的黏结-滑移行为;当弹簧间距≤黏结长度的1/4时,计算结果与试验数据吻合良好。三点弯曲试验结果显示:钢筋屈服后特性会显著影响荷载-位移曲线下降段,混凝土开裂后,钢筋力学性能主导结构响应。所提出的SBFEM框架可有效模拟锈蚀钢筋与混凝土的界面行为和结构整体力学性能退化过程,为锈蚀钢筋混凝土结构性能评估提供了可靠的分析工具。 展开更多

弹簧电缆是近年来升降杆行业新兴的一种自动收线材料,当前理论研究少,缺乏系统深入研究。提出了弹簧电缆需要满足的变形、最大切应力和中径要求,明确了拉伸弹簧是弹簧电缆的关键研究对象。常用的线性弹簧分析方法将弹簧视为理想轻质弹簧... 弹簧电缆是近年来升降杆行业新兴的一种自动收线材料,当前理论研究少,缺乏系统深入研究。提出了弹簧电缆需要满足的变形、最大切应力和中径要求,明确了拉伸弹簧是弹簧电缆的关键研究对象。常用的线性弹簧分析方法将弹簧视为理想轻质弹簧,无法分析端部被拉伸同时承受线载荷的拉伸弹簧,且不计算拉伸后的中径。采用微元结合极限的方法,根据弹簧在受线载荷状态下微元后仍呈线性的特点,推导出了弹簧电缆是否全部发生轴向变形的判定公式以及任意位置的轴向变形计算公式,并进一步推导出拉伸后的弹簧最大切应力和每圈近似中径计算公式。以实际案例展示研究过程及结果,通过项目实施时对中径的实际测量以及使用ANSYS Workbench有限元软件对最大切应力的分析,验证了研究方法的正确性。解决了弹簧电缆理论计算问题,对设计弹簧电缆提供了参考,对分析承受类似载荷的弹簧提供了借鉴。 展开更多
