The rock mass consists of rock blocks and structural planes,which can reduce its integrity and strength.Therefore,accurately obtaining the characteristics of the rock mass structural plane is a prerequisite for evaluating stability and designing supports in underground engineering.Currently,there are no effective testing methods for the characteristic parameters of the rock mass structural plane in underground engineering.The paper presents the digital drilling technology as a new testing method of rock mass structural planes.Flawed rock specimens with cracks of varying widths and angles were used to simulate the rock mass structural planes,and the multifunctional rock mass digital drilling test system was employed to carry out the digital drilling tests.The analysis focuses on the variation laws of drilling parameters,such as drilling pressure and drilling torque,affected by the characteristics of prefabricated cracks,and clarifies the degradation mechanism of rock equivalent compressive strength.Additionally,an identification model for the characteristic parameters of rock mass structural planes during drilling is established.The test results indicate that the average difference of the characteristics of prefabricated cracks identified by the equivalent compressive strength is 2.45°and 0.82 mm,respectively.The identification model while drilling is verified to be correct due to the high identification accuracy.Based on this,a method for testing the characteristic parameters of the surrounding rock structural plane while drilling is proposed.The research offers a theoretical and methodological foundation for precise in situ identification of structural planes of the surrounding rock in underground engineering. 展开更多

The uniaxial compressive strength(UCS)of rocks is a vital geomechanical parameter widely used for rock mass classification,stability analysis,and engineering design in rock engineering.Various UCS testing methods and apparatuses have been proposed over the past few decades.The objective of the present study is to summarize the status and development in theories,test apparatuses,data processing of the existing testing methods for UCS measurement.It starts with elaborating the theories of these test methods.Then the test apparatus and development trends for UCS measurement are summarized,followed by a discussion on rock specimens for test apparatus,and data processing methods.Next,the method selection for UCS measurement is recommended.It reveals that the rock failure mechanism in the UCS testing methods can be divided into compression-shear,compression-tension,composite failure mode,and no obvious failure mode.The trends of these apparatuses are towards automation,digitization,precision,and multi-modal test.Two size correction methods are commonly used.One is to develop empirical correlation between the measured indices and the specimen size.The other is to use a standard specimen to calculate the size correction factor.Three to five input parameters are commonly utilized in soft computation models to predict the UCS of rocks.The selection of the test methods for the UCS measurement can be carried out according to the testing scenario and the specimen size.The engineers can gain a comprehensive understanding of the UCS testing methods and its potential developments in various rock engineering endeavors. 展开更多

For a homogeneous,continuous,and isotropic material whose constitutive relationships meets with the Ramberg-Osgood law(R-O law),the energy in the elastoplastic indentation with a ball indenter was theoretically analyzed,and the proportional superposition of energy in pure elasticity and pure plasticity during indentation was considered based on the equivalence of energy density.Subsequently,a Proportional Superposition-based Elasto Plastic Model(PS-EPM)was developed to describe the relationships between the displacement and the load during the ball indentation.Furthermore,a new test method of Ball Indentation based on Elastoplastic Proportional Superposition(BI-EPS)was developed to obtain the constitutive relationships of R-O law materials.The load–displacement curves predicted using the PS-EPM model were found to agree closely with the Finite Element Analysis(FEA)results.Moreover,the stress vs.strain curves predicted using the BI-EPS method were in better agreement with those obtained by FEA.Additionally,ball indentation was performed on eleven types of metal materials including five types of aluminum alloys and six types of steel.The test results showed that the stress vs.strain relationships and the tensile strength values predicted using the proposed BI-EPS method agreed well with the results obtained using conventional uniaxial tensile tests. 展开更多

Hydropower projects are rapidly developing in China at present, and a number of high daras and large reservoirs are currently under construction or will soon be built. These large projects are mainly located on the great rivers in West China with complicated topographical and geological conditions. Evaluation of stability and safety of these high dam projects is an important topic. Geomechanical model test is one of the main methods to study the global stability of high dam and foundation. In this paper, a comprehensive testing method that combines overloading and strength reduction in a model is proposed. In this method, both the influence of excessive flooding and the effects of strength reduction of rock masses and weak structural planes on dam stability are considered. Thus, the comprehensive testing method can accurately incorporate multiple factors that affect the global stability of high dam and its foundation. Based on the failure testing principle and model similarity theory, a similarity relation formula for safety evaluation through comprehensive test is established. A new model material, temperature-dependent analogous material, is also developed. By rising the temperature and reducing the strength of the mod,~l material, the mechanical behaviors resulting from gradual strength reduction can be simulated. Thus, the comprehensive testing method is realized in a single model. For case studies, the comprehensive geomechanical model test is conducted for Jinpinlg I and Xiaowan high arch dam projects. 展开更多

This paper is a review of the past research of mechanical testing methods for natural fibre honeycomb sandwich structure as well as failure modes analysis at a microscopic level by using Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM). As the world is garnering attention towards renewable resources for environmental purposes, studies of natural fibre have been increasing as well as the application of natural fibre throughout various industries such as aerospace, automobiles, and construction sectors. This paper is started with brief information regarding the honeycomb sandwich structure, introduction to natural fibre, its applications as well as the factors affecting the performances of the structure. Next, the mechanical testing methods are listed out as well as the expected outcomes obtained from the respective testing. The mechanical properties are also identified by conducting lab tests according to the ASTM standard for sandwich and core structures. The microstructure of the deformed samples is then examined under Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) by using different magnifications to study the failure mechanisms of the samples. The images obtained from the SEM test are analyzed by using fractography which will show the failure modes of the samples. With the increase of underground engineering construction depth,the phenomenon of surrounding rock sudden failure caused by supporting structure failure occurs frequently.The conventional unloading con-fining pressure(CUCP)test cannot simulate the plastic yielding and instantaneous unloading process of supporting structure to rock.Thus,a high stress loading-instantaneous unloading confining pressure(HSL-IUCP)test method was proposed and applied by considering bolt’s fracture under stress.The wall thickness of confining pressure plates and the material of bolts were changed to realize different confin-ing pressure loading stiffness(CPLS)and lateral maximum allowable deformation(LMAD).The superio-rity of HSL-ICPU method is verified compared with CUCP.The rock failure mechanism caused by sudden failure of supporting structure is obtained.The results show that when CPLS increases from 1.35 to 2.33 GN/m,rock’s peak strength and elastic modulus increase by 25.18%and 23.70%,respectively.The fracture characteristics change from tensile failure to tensile-shear mixed failure.When LMAD decreases from 0.40 to 0.16 mm,rock’s residual strength,peak strain,and residual strain decrease by 91.80%,16.94%,and 21.92%,respectively,and post-peak drop modulus increases by 140.47%.The test results obtained by this method are closer to rock’s real mechanical response characteristics compared with CUCP. 展开更多

In order to achieve higher density of P/M steels using the die wall lubrication compacting method or powder lubricant in warm compaction process, the influence of different process parameters on the green density of warm compacted samples was studied. According to the orthogonal test method, the authors systematically study the influence of the different compaction pressure, condition of lubrication and compaction temperature on the green density of the sample in the warm compaction process, and put forward the optimal process parameter of warm compaction experiment. It is found that, a high compaction pressure (≥700 MPa), die wall lubrication combined with a small amount of internal lubricants, and fitting compaction temperature by different condition of lubrication, are the optimal parameters in warm compaction process. 展开更多

To address the challenges of poor surface quality and high energy consumption in marble cutting,this study introduces an auxiliary abrasive jet cutting technology enhanced by the use of polyacrylamide(PAM)as a dragreducing additive.The effects of feed rate(50-300 mm/min),polymer concentration(0-0.5 g/L),and nozzle spacing(4-12 mm)on kerf width and surface roughness are systematically investigated through an orthogonal experimental design.Results reveal that feed rate emerges as themost significant factor(p<0.01),followed by PAM concentration and nozzle spacing.The optimal set of parameters,comprising a 200 mm/min feed rate,0.3 g/L PAM concentration,and 6mmnozzle spacing,achieves the narrowest kerf width(0.867 mm)and the lowest surface roughness(10.220μm).Analysis of the underlying mechanisms demonstrates that PAMenhances the energy efficiency of the jet by suppressing turbulent pulsations and increasing fluid viscoelasticity,thereby minimizing energy loss during the cutting process. 展开更多

Previous studies have demonstrated that intermediate-volatility and semivolatile organic compounds(I/SVOCs) are important precursors of secondary organic aerosols. Motor vehicles are important sources of atmospheric I/SVOC emissions. In this paper, existing test methods for motor vehicle I/SVOCs are summarized, the advantages and disadvantages of various sampling methods and analytical techniques are compared, and the main factors influencing motor vehicle I/SVOC emissions are analyzed. The results show that the onboard test method compensates for the shortcomings of the bench test method, reflects the emission characteristics of I/SVOCs on actual roads, and has great application potential. The identification capability of traditional gas chromatography-mass spectrometry for I/SVOCs is very limited, whereas the high sensitivity and species identification capability of comprehensive two-dimensional gas chromatography provide obvious advantages in the study of I/SVOC samples. Motor vehicle I/SVOC emissions are influenced by many factors. The individual and combined effects of different factors remain uncertain, so the importance of control variables must be more notably emphasized in future studies of influencing factors. In this paper, a systematic review is offered that could serve as a valuable reference for future research on motor vehicle I/SVOC emissions and contribute to mitigating fine particulate matter pollution. 展开更多

A unified model for obtaining stress-strain relationship under spherical indenter loading and test application

A dimensionless load-displacement model based on the energy-density equivalence principle is proposed to obtain the stress-strain relationships of metallic materials under monotonic indentations with various diameters of spherical indenters.Finite element simulations are carried out to verify the constitutive relations from the new model,involving indentations made with various spherical indenters.For each indenter,some quasi-static spherical indentation tests are conducted on the materials with 40 preset constitutive relationships.The results indicate that the stress-strain curves predicted by the model align with the preset curves under 200 loading conditions.Moreover,the goodness-of-fit between the predicted stress-strain curves and the preset curves exceeds0.96 for all indenters and materials.In the end,the indentation tests are conducted by the spherical indenters with the diameters of 1.587 mm for fifteen metallic materials and1 mm for eight metallic materials.The results show that the stress-strain curves obtained by the spherical indentation based on the new model closely match those obtained from the uniaxial tensile tests.The relative errors for both the proof strength at 0.2%plastic extension and the tensile strength are below 5%. 展开更多

The serpentine convergent-divergent nozzle represents an optimal configuration for nextgeneration fighter aircraft characterized by low detectability and high thrust-to-weight ratio.In contrast to the serpentine convergent nozzle,such configuration offers increased design flexibility with additional parameters,leading to heightened interactions among these parameters.As such,it is crucial to reveal the influence of design parameters on the aerodynamic performance of the serpentine convergent-divergent nozzle and the multifactor interaction,as well as its mechanism.Therefore,the influence,interaction and sensitivity of parameters on the aerodynamic performance of the nozzle were numerically investigated using the orthogonal test method.Additionally,the influence mechanism of the convergence angle,throat aspect ratio,and axial length to inlet diameter on the flow characteristics of the nozzle was investigated in detail.The results show that the convergence angle is identified as the main factor affecting the aerodynamic parameters of the nozzle.As the convergence angle increases,the thrust coefficient,total pressure recovery coefficient and discharge coefficient gradually decrease.The interaction between throat aspect ratio and other parameters is obvious.Different design parameters affect the local loss and the friction loss by affecting the curvature and wetted perimeter area,resulting in different aerodynamic characteristics of serpentine convergent-divergent nozzle. 展开更多

Studying the mechanical properties of the soil-root interface using the pullout test method 被引量:17

It is important to quantify the effect of the root diameter, the embedment length of the root and load speed on the soil-root interface mechanical properties for studying the root anchorage. The soilroot interface mechanical properties can be obtained through the pullout force and root slippage curve(F-S curve). About 120 Pinus tabulaeformis single roots whose diameters ranged from 1 mm to 10 mm divided into 6 groups based on different root embedment length(50 mm, 100 mm and 150 mm) and different load velocity(10 mm·min^(-1), 50 mm·min^(-1), 100 mm·min^(-1) and 300 mm·min^(-1)) were investigated using the pullout method. This study aims to explore the mechanical properties of the soil-root interface in the real conditions using the pullout test method. The results showed two kinds of pullout test failure modes during the experimental process: breakage failure and pullout failure. The results showed that the roots were easier to be broken when the root diameter was smaller or the loading speed was larger. The relationship between the maximum anchorage force and root diameter was linear and the linearly dependent coefficient(R^2) was larger than 0.85. The anchorage force increased with the root embedment length. An increase of 10%^(-1)5% for the maximumanchorage force was found when load speed increased from 10 to 300 mm.min^(-1). The mean peak slippage of the root was from 13.81 to 35.79 mm when the load velocity varied from 10 to 300 mm.min^(-1). The study will be helpful for the design of slopes reinforced by vegetation and in predicting risk of uprooting of trees, and will have practical benefits for understanding the mechanism of landslide. 展开更多
