A model for discrimination and prediction of mental workload of aircraft cockpit display interface 被引量:21

With respect to the ergonomic evaluation and optimization in the mental task design of the aircraft cockpit display interface, the experimental measurement and theoretical modeling of mental workload were carried out under flight simulation task conditions using the performance evaluation, subjective evaluation and physiological measurement methods. The experimental results show that with an increased mental workload, the detection accuracy of flight operation significantly reduced and the reaction time was significantly prolonged; the standard deviation of R-R intervals(SDNN) significantly decreased, while the mean heart rate exhibited little change; the score of NASA_TLX scale significantly increased. On this basis, the indexes sensitive to mental workload were screened, and an integrated model for the discrimination and prediction of mental workload of aircraft cockpit display interface was established based on the Bayesian Fisher discrimination and classification method. The original validation and cross-validation methods were employed to test the accuracy of the results of discrimination and prediction of the integrated model, and the average prediction accuracies determined by these two methods are both higher than 85%. Meanwhile, the integrated model shows a higher accuracy in discrimination and prediction of mental workload compared with single indexes. The model proposed in this paper exhibits a satisfactory coincidence with the measured data and could accurately reflect the variation characteristics of the mental workload of aircraft cockpit display interface, thus providing a basis for the ergonomic evaluation and optimization design of the aircraft cockpit display interface in the future. 展开更多

We have applied functional near-infrared spectroscopy(fNIRS)to the human forehead to distinguish different levels of mental workload on the basis of hemodynamic changes occurring in the prefrontal cortex.We report data on 3 subjects from a protocol involving 3 mental workload levels based on to working memory tasks.To quantify the potential of fNIRS for mental workload discrimination,we have applied a 3-nearest neighbor classification algorithm based on the amplitude of oxyhemoglobin(HbO2)and deoxyhemoglobin(HbR)concentration changes associated with the working memory tasks.We have found classification success rates in the range of 44%-72%,which are significantly higher than the corresponding chance level(for random data)of 19.1%.This work shows the potential of fNIRS for mental workload classification,especially when more parameters(rather than just the amplitude of concentration changes used here)and more sophisticated classification algorithms(rather than the simple 3-nearest neighbor algorithm used here)are considered and optimized for this application. 展开更多

Mental workload is considered to be strongly linked to human performance,and the ability to measure it accurately is key for balancing human health and work.In this study,brain signals were elicited by mental arithmetic tasks of varying difficulty to stimulate different levels of mental workload.In addition,a finite impulse response(FIR)filter,independent component analysis(ICA),and multiple artifact rejection algorithms(MARAs)were used to filter event-related potentials(ERPs).Then,the data consisting of ERPs,subjective ratings of mental workload,and task performance,were analyzed through the use of variance and Spearman’s correlation during a simulated computer task.We found that participants responded faster and performed better in the easy task condition,followed by the medium and high-difficulty conditions,which verifies the validity of the ERP filtering.Moreover,larger P2 and P3 waveforms were evoked as the task difficulty increased,and a higher task difficulty elicited a more enhanced N300.Correlation analysis revealed a negative relationship between the amplitude of P3 and the subjective ratings,and a positive relationship between the P3 amplitude and accuracy.The results presented in this paper demonstrate that a combination of FIR,ICA,and MARA methods can filter ERPs in the non-invasive real-time measurement of workload.Additionally,frontocentral P2,N3,and parietal P3 components showed differences between genders.The proposed measurement of mental workload can be useful for real-time identification of mental states and can be applied to human-computer interaction in the future. 展开更多

In this research, we study the relationship between mental workload and facial temperature of aircraft participants during a simulated takeoff flight. We conducted experiments to comprehend the correlation between work and facial temperature within the flight simulator. The experiment involved a group of 10 participants who played the role of pilots in a simulated A-320 flight. Six different flying scenarios were designed to simulate normal and emergency situations on airplane takeoff that would occur in different levels of mental workload for the participants. The measurements were workload assessment, face temperatures, and heart rate monitoring. Throughout the experiments, we collected a total of 120 instances of takeoffs, together with over 10 hours of time-series data including heart rate, workload, and face thermal images and temperatures. Comparative analysis of EEG data and thermal image types, revealed intriguing findings. The results indicate a notable inverse relationship between workload and facial muscle temperatures, as well as facial landmark points. The results of this study contribute to a deeper understanding of the physiological effects of workload, as well as practical implications for aviation safety and performance. 展开更多

Physiological measures indexed by fixation frequency and total fixation time,task performance based on n-back accuracy,subjective assessment based on NASA Task Load Index(NASA-TLX) were used to measure the Mental Workload(MW) in different levels which were induced by vision-related flight task combined with auditory cognitive load. 16 healthy novice pilots were recruited to complete a monitoring task based on Head-Up Display(HUD) and an auditory n-back task which was used to manipulate the Mental Workload Level(MWL) in flight simulation environment. In our experiment,fixation frequency,average saccade time,blink rate and average pupil diameter were sensitive to MW. What's more,a comprehensive assessment method of pilot mental workload based on various measures was advocated. At last,a Fisher projection function based on the Fisher discrimination method and a three-level discriminate model established by the Bayes discrimination method were built up,the original validation and cross-validation methods of both models were 97. 92% and 95. 83% respectively,which could discriminate various Mental Workload Levels(MWLs) ideally. 展开更多

Ergonomic Evaluation of the Perceived Mental Workload among Tunisian University Hospital Caregivers

Objectives: To evaluate the perceived mental workload and to identify its individual and professional determinants among Tunisian caregivers in university hospitals. Methods: A cross-sectional study was carried out in two university hospitals of the center of Tunisia, which employ 1179 paramedics providing care activities. The survey was conducted within a representative sample, of 301 caregivers assigned to 28 medical and surgical services, randomly drawn, after being paired according to age, gender and work schedule. It included structured inquiry (socio-professional characteristics, occupational perceived workload) and validated questionnaires (Job Content Questionnaire of Karasek, SF12, WAI). Results: Mental workload was perceived as “moderate” by 145 caregivers (48.49%) and as “heavy” by 119 caregivers (40.61% of them). Among the sample, 209 paramedics endured at least once the fixed night work schedules along their respective careers, with an average of 5.63 ± 7.54 years. According to the WAI index, 39.59% of subjects considered their capacity of work as low. Moreover, job strain was noted in 19.79%. Indeed, work latitude was unsatisfactory among 41% of caregiver, 60.1% of them mentioned the absence of colleagues’ support. A feeling of job insecurity was reported by 73.72% of subjects. Multi-varied analytic study concluded that heavier perceived mental work load was correlated to individual determinants particularly age >45 years (p -3), overweight or obesity (p = 0.02), more than three depending children (p -3), lower degree obtained (p -3), working grade as nurse assistant (P = 0.001), lower quality of physical life (0.010) and expressed willingness to retire early (p = 0.003). Conclusion: The heavy perception of mental workload associated to care activities, is one of the reasons of premature departure among nurses from professional activity. Preventive actions on professional determinants of perceived workload can reduce this phenomenon. 展开更多

Purpose–The presentation of in-vehicle warnings information at risky driving scenarios is aimed to improve the collision avoidance ability of drivers.Existing studies have found that driver’s collision avoidance performance is affected by both warning information and driver’s workload.However,whether moderation and mediation effects exist among warning information,driver’s cognition,behavior and risky avoidance performance is unclear.Design/methodology/approach–This purpose of this study is to examine whether the warning information type modifies the relationship between the forward collision risk and collision avoidance behavior.A driving simulator experiment was conducted with waring and command information.Findings–Results of 30 participants indicated that command information improves collision avoidance behavior more than notification warning under the forward collision risky driving scenario.The primary reason for this is that collision avoidance behavior can be negatively affected by the forward collision risk.At the same time,command information can weaken this negative effect.Moreover,improved collision avoidance behavior can be achieved through increasing drivers’mental workload.Practical implications–The proposed model provides a comprehensive understanding of the factors influencing collision avoidance behavior,thus contributing to improved in-vehicle information system design.Originality/value–The significant moderation effects evoke the fact that information types and mental workloads are critical in improving drivers’collision avoidance ability.Through further calibration with larger sample size,the proposed structural model can be used to predict the effect of invehicle warnings in different risky driving scenarios. 展开更多

为探究矿工的脑力负荷特征,以减少作业人员脑力负担导致的煤矿事故,基于生理信号与多维评估方法,分析气质类型与任务难度对矿工脑力负荷的作用机制。采用2种气质类型(胆汁质、多血质)×3种任务难度(低、中、高)的混合双因素实验设计... 为探究矿工的脑力负荷特征,以减少作业人员脑力负担导致的煤矿事故,基于生理信号与多维评估方法,分析气质类型与任务难度对矿工脑力负荷的作用机制。采用2种气质类型(胆汁质、多血质)×3种任务难度(低、中、高)的混合双因素实验设计,综合运用主观量表(NASA-TLX)、生理指标(皮肤电导SC、平均心率Mean HR、平均心搏间期Mean IBI、相邻N-N间期之差>20 ms的百分数PNN 20、心动间隔标准差SDNN)和行为绩效(任务失误次数)进行多维测量。研究结果表明:与多血质组相比,胆汁质组的Mean HR与SC更大,Mean IBI、SDNN、PNN 20更小,且其主观评分和任务失误次数更高。在不同任务难度下,矿工的脑力负荷具有差异性,生理指标中Mean HR、SC、Mean IBI、SDNN和PNN 20存在显著差异。任务失误次数方面,随着任务难度增加,2组失误次数均递增。主观评分方面,随难度增加评分显著上升。矿工脑力负荷受气质类型与任务难度共同作用,胆汁质个体负荷更高。研究结果可为煤矿人员配置及任务难度分级提供量化支撑,对降低人因失误风险具有实践价值。 展开更多

Mental fatigue is a complex state that results from prolonged cognitive activity. Symptoms of mental fatigue can include change in mood, motivation, and temporary deterioration of various cognitive functions involved in goal-directed behavior. Extensive research has been done to develop methods for recognizing physiological and psychophysiological signs of mental fatigue. This has allowed the development of many AI-based models to classify different levels of fatigue, using data extracted from eye-tracking device, EEG, or ECG. In this paper, we present an experimental protocol which aims to both generate/measure mental fatigue and provide effective strategies for recuperation via VR sessions paired with EEG and eye tracking devices. This paper first provides a comprehensive state-of-the-art of mental fatigue predictive factors, measurement methods, and recuperation strategies. Then the paper presents an experimental protocol resulting from the state-of-the-art to 1) generate and measure mental fatigue and 2) evaluate the effectiveness of virtual therapy for fatigue recuperation, using a virtual reality (VR) simulated environment. In our work, we successfully generated mental fatigue through completion of cognitive tasks in a virtual simulated environment. Participants showed significant decline in pupil diameter and theta/alpha score during the various cognitive tasks. We trained an RBF SVM classifier from Electroencephalogram (EEG) data classifying mental fatigue with 95% accuracy on the test set. Finally, our results show that the time allocated for virtual therapy did not improve pupil diameter in post-relaxation period. Further research on the impact of relaxation therapy on relaxation therapy should allocate time closer to the standard recovery time of 60 min. 展开更多

新一次工业革命的关键特征是集数字世界和物理世界于一体的信息物理系统,但受多领域发展制约,短期内具有完全自主水平的系统无法实现.操作者与工业信息物理系统的协同共生成为亟待解决的重要难题.工作负荷作为衡量系统整体性能和人机协... 新一次工业革命的关键特征是集数字世界和物理世界于一体的信息物理系统,但受多领域发展制约,短期内具有完全自主水平的系统无法实现.操作者与工业信息物理系统的协同共生成为亟待解决的重要难题.工作负荷作为衡量系统整体性能和人机协作关系的关键指标,本文以此作为切入点,在深入剖析工业信息物理系统构成要素、人机交互系统特征及运行模式的基础上,提取了工业信息物理系统主要的三类场景及人机交互任务,构建了面向工业场景的脑力负荷研究实验范式;提出了针对监控核查、控制运行和通讯三类任务的关键脑电敏感性参数,实现了基于单一脑电模态的分任务脑力负荷建模.实验表明,在监控核查、控制运行和通讯场景下,基于脑电绝对功率特征的随机森林模型均展现出卓越的识别准确率,平均识别准确率可达到97.85%、96.95%和89.88%,识别准确率最高能够达到100%.为进一步理解操作者生理和系统工作负荷之间的关系,提高工业信息物理系统生产力和操作者积极性提供了理论依据,为推动基于透明接口的人在环控制、自然人机交互、自适应软件和脑机接口技术的应用等领域的研究提供了新的视角. 展开更多

脊柱椎板机器人是近年来为椎板切除术研发的辅助性手术机器人。为探究脊柱椎板机器人手术方式和传统椎板切除手术方式对骨科医生脑力负荷多维特征方面的差异,基于多模态(心电仪、眼动仪和NASA-TLX量表)测量两种手术方式下骨科医生的脑... 脊柱椎板机器人是近年来为椎板切除术研发的辅助性手术机器人。为探究脊柱椎板机器人手术方式和传统椎板切除手术方式对骨科医生脑力负荷多维特征方面的差异,基于多模态(心电仪、眼动仪和NASA-TLX量表)测量两种手术方式下骨科医生的脑力负荷。通过模拟手术实验,让12名骨科医生分别采用两种手术方式做椎板切除术,采集骨科医生的多模态数据以进行方差分析和相关性分析。方差分析结果表明,脊柱椎板机器人手术方式和传统椎板切除手术方式在主观脑力负荷方面有显著差异(P<0.05);在心电指标方面,平均心率、低频/高频比值(LF/HF)和正常RR间期的标准差(standard deviation of NN intervals, SDNN)之间无显著差异;在眼动指标方面,瞳孔直径(P<0.05)、注视频率(P<0.05)和扫视频率(P<0.01)有显著差异。进一步的相关性分析结果表明两种手术方式下均有瞳孔直径与主观脑力负荷水平之间的相关性尤为显著。脊柱椎板机器人方式与传统椎板切除手术方式相比能够减轻骨科医生的脑力负荷,而且瞳孔直径与主观脑力负荷水平能更有效地反映骨科医生脑力负荷。 展开更多

目的基于Su-33飞行模拟器平台采集飞行员生理数据,识别飞行员在不同飞行阶段中的认知负荷水平。方法通过舰载机飞行任务实验,获取6名被试飞行学员在起飞爬升、巡航、进近着陆3个飞行阶段中的美国国家宇航局任务负荷指数量表和光电容积... 目的基于Su-33飞行模拟器平台采集飞行员生理数据,识别飞行员在不同飞行阶段中的认知负荷水平。方法通过舰载机飞行任务实验,获取6名被试飞行学员在起飞爬升、巡航、进近着陆3个飞行阶段中的美国国家宇航局任务负荷指数量表和光电容积脉搏波数据。使用随机森林(RF)对心率变异性(HRV)指标进行重要性评价,并采用统计学分析比较飞行阶段的差异,最终选取最能反映认知负荷的HRV指标。使用支持向量机、K最近邻(KNN)算法、RF 3种机器学习算法,以及卷积神经网络和双向长短期记忆网络两种神经网络算法进行认知负荷识别。结果进近着陆阶段的认知负荷水平最高,巡航阶段次之,起飞爬升阶段最低。各分类模型对认知负荷的识别效果较好,基于便携式心电设备采集数据的精度较高,其中KNN算法表现最佳,识别准确率达92.9%。结论通过HRV指标,结合多种机器学习与神经网络算法,可以有效识别不同飞行阶段的认知负荷水平,为飞行员训练与认知评估提供了科学依据。 展开更多

在飞行等高风险、高复杂度任务场景中,准确监测脑力负荷已成为提升工作效率和保障安全的关键。然而,现有的脑力负荷评估方法多依赖单一模态信号,这些方法在跨个体和跨天等情境下的泛化性能较差。因此,提出一种基于多模态生理信号融合的... 在飞行等高风险、高复杂度任务场景中,准确监测脑力负荷已成为提升工作效率和保障安全的关键。然而,现有的脑力负荷评估方法多依赖单一模态信号,这些方法在跨个体和跨天等情境下的泛化性能较差。因此,提出一种基于多模态生理信号融合的脑力负荷评估方法:采用COG-BCI数据集,选取其中多属性任务组(MATB⁃Ⅱ)的脑电和心电生理信号数据,提取脑电功率谱密度在内的多类关键特征,通过均方差系数、最大互信息系数及单因素方差分析对特征进行筛选和融合,构建基于随机森林与极限梯度提升算法的模型。结果表明:所提融合特征和方法有效提升了模型性能,在当日脑力负荷识别中平均准确率达到93.8%,在跨天场景中平均识别精度达到86.1%。采用多模态生理信号融合方法,有效提升了跨个体和跨天场景下的脑力负荷评估准确率。 展开更多

基于实车试验的小净距“隧道-互通”心理负荷量化分析

为明确高速公路小净距“隧道-互通”路段下匝道驾驶人心理负荷水平,通过实车驾驶试验采集33名被试者在渝湘高速黄草互通至保家互通的心电数据,分析驾驶人心率增长率均值、心率增长率最大值、R-R间期(心电图相邻R波之间的时间间隔)标准... 为明确高速公路小净距“隧道-互通”路段下匝道驾驶人心理负荷水平,通过实车驾驶试验采集33名被试者在渝湘高速黄草互通至保家互通的心电数据,分析驾驶人心率增长率均值、心率增长率最大值、R-R间期(心电图相邻R波之间的时间间隔)标准差和连续R-R间期均方根的分布特征,以此为观测变量构建基于因子分析法的心理负荷综合量化模型,揭示小净距“隧道-互通”心理负荷水平,以及其与常规隧道、常规互通的差异,探讨隧道与互通之间的净距及驾驶人因素的影响。结果表明:4处小净距“隧道-互通”的驾驶人心理负荷分别分布在0.23~1.00、0.00~0.87、0.15~0.76和0.03~0.65,显著高于常规隧道(p<0.05);净距在410 m及以下的3处小净距“隧道-互通”的心理负荷显著高于常规互通出口(p<0.05);随着净距的减小,心理负荷逐渐增大,且心理负荷在两两小净距“隧道-互通”路段之间均存在显著性差异(p<0.05);不同类型驾驶人之间心理负荷差异显著(p<0.05),女性驾驶人心理负荷比男性高41.0%,不熟悉路线的驾驶人比熟悉型心理负荷高37.8%,非经验型驾驶人心理负荷比经验型增加59.0%。 展开更多
