The effects of 1 Me V electron irradiation in air at a fixed accumulated dose and dose rates of 393.8,196.9,78.8,and 39.4 Gy s^(-1)on a shape memory epoxy(SMEP)resin were studied.Under low-dose-rate irradiation,accelerated degradation of the shape memory performance was observed;specifically,the shape recovery ratio decreased exponentially with increasing irradiation time(that is,with decreasing dose rate).In addition,the glass transition temperature of the SMEP,as measured by dynamic mechanical analysis,decreased overall with decreasing dose rate.The dose rate effects of 1 Me V electron irradiation on the SMEP were confirmed by structural analysis using electron paramagnetic resonance(EPR)spectroscopy and Fourier transform infrared(FTIR)spectroscopy.The EPR spectra showed that the concentration of free radicals increased exponentially with increasing irradiation time.Moreover,the FTIR spectra showed higher intensities of the peaks at 1660 and 1720 cm^(-1),which are attributed to stretching vibrations of amide C=O and ketone/acid C=O,at lower dose rates.The intensities of the IR peaks at 1660 and 1720 cm^(-1) increased exponentially with increasing irradiation time,and the relative intensity of the IR peak at 2926 cm^(-1)decreased exponentially with increasing irradiation time.The solid-state13 C nuclear magnetic resonance(NMR)spectra of the SMEP before and after 1 Me V electron irradiation at a dose of 1970 k Gy and a dose rate of 78.8 Gy s^(-1) indicated damage to the CH_(2)–N groups and aliphatic isopropanol segment.This result is consistent with the detection of nitrogenous free radicals,a phenoxy-type free radical,and several types of pyrolytic carbon radicals by EPR.During the subsequent propagation process,the free radicals produced at lower dose rates were more likely to react with oxygen,which was present at higher concentrations,and form the more destructive peroxy free radicals and oxidation products such as acids,amides,and ketones.The increase in peroxy free radicals at lower dose rates was thought to accelerate the degradation of the macroscopic performance of the SMEP. 展开更多

The leakage current, threshold voltage shift, and transconductance of the devices are monitored before and after T-ray irradiation. Different device bias conditions are used during irradiation. The experiment results show that TID radiation effects on nMOS devices are very sensitive to their layout structures. The impact of the layout on TID effects on pMOS devices is slight and can be neglected. 展开更多

This work presents a systematic analysis of proton-induced total ionizing dose(TID)effects in 1.2 k V silicon carbide(SiC)power devices with various edge termination structures.Three edge terminations including ring-assisted junction termination extension(RA-JTE),multiple floating zone JTE(MFZ-JTE),and field limiting rings(FLR)were fabricated and irradiated with45 Me V protons at fluences ranging from 1×10^(12) to 1×10^(14) cm^(-2).Experimental results,supported by TCAD simulations,show that the RA-JTE structure maintained stable breakdown performance with less than 1%variation due to its effective electric field redistribution by multiple P+rings.In contrast,MFZ-JTE and FLR exhibit breakdown voltage shifts of 6.1%and 15.2%,respectively,under the highest fluence.These results demonstrate the superior radiation tolerance of the RA-JTE structure under TID conditions and provide practical design guidance for radiation-hardened Si C power devices in space and other highradiation environments. 展开更多

The hydroponic culture experiments of soybean bean seedlings were conducted to investigate the effect of lanthanum (La) on nitrogen metabolism under two different levels of elevated UV-B radiation (UV-B, 280-320 nm). The whole process of nitrogen metabolism involves uptake and transport of nitrate, nitrate assimilation, ammonium assimilation, amino acid biosynthesis, and protein synthesis. Compared with the control, UV-B radiation with the intensity of low level 0.15 W/m^2 and high level 0.45 W/m^2 significantly affected the whole nitrogen metabolism in soybean seedlings (p 〈 0.05). It restricted uptake and transport of NO3^-, inhibited activity of some key nitrogen-metabolism-related enzymes, such as: nitrate reductase (NR) to the nitrate reduction, glutamine systhetase (GS) and glutamine synthase (GOGAT) to the ammonia assimilation, while it increased the content of free amino acids and decreased that of soluble protein as well. The damage effect of high level of UV-B radiation on nitrogen metabolism was greater than that of low level. And UV-B radiation promoted the activity of the anti-adversity enzyme glutamate dehydrogenase (GDH), which reduced the toxicity of excess ammonia in plant. After pretreatment with the optimum concentration of La (20 mg/L), La could increase the activity of NR, GS, GOGAT, and GDH, and ammonia assimilation, but decrease nitrate and ammonia accumulation. In conclusion, La could relieve the damage effect of UV-B radiation on plant by regulating nitrogen metabolism process, and its alleviating effect under low level was better than that under the high one. 展开更多

Working memory is a core cognitive function that supports goal-directed behavior and complex thought.We developed a spatial working memory and attention test on paired symbols(SWAPS)which has been proved to be a useful and valid tool for spatial working memory and attention studies in the fields of cognitive psychology,education,and psychiatry.The repeated administration of working memory capacity tests is common in clinical and research settings.Studies suggest that repeated cognitive tests may improve the performance scores also known as retest effects.The systematic investigation of retest effects in SWAPS is critical for interpreting scientific results,but it is still not fully developed.To address this,we recruited 77 college students aged 18–21 years and used SWAPS comprising 72 trials with different memory loads,learning time,and delay span.We repeated the test once a week for five weeks to investigate the retest effects of SWAPS.There were significant retest effects in the first two tests:the accuracy of the SWAPS tests significantly increased,and then stabilized.These findings provide useful information for researchers to appropriately use or interpret the repeated working memory tests.Further experiments are still needed to clarify the factors that mediate the retest effects,and find out the cognitive mechanism that influences the retest effects. 展开更多

The intermittent nature of solar irradiance is a critical constraint for the realization of continuous photocatalytic hydrogen evolution,thus urging the development of more powerful systems persistently active after illumination.This limitation is bypassed in round-the-clock photocatalytic architectures,which incorporate advanced charge storage to de-correlate pho-ton absorption and catalytic turnover time scales.The strategies involve defect-mediated trap states,multi-electron redox processes,radical-dependent stabilization,and an interfacial charge pool in Faradaic junctions to work together,leading to extended hydrogen evolution reaction(HER)in the dark.Long afterglow phosphorescent materials(e.g.,Sr_(2)MgSi_(2)O_(7):Eu^(2+),Dy^(3+))incorporated in heterojunction architectures with type II or Z-scheme band alignments can also promote fast charge separation for energy storage and subsequently enable controlled release after light quenching by the phosphorescent emis-sion.Advances in band-structure engineering,plasmonic coupling,and redox-active interfacial design result in systems with extraordinary stability and catalytic activity under natural day-night cycles.These stable photocatalytic systems off er a fundamentally new strategy for effi cient and environmentally benign sunlight-driven fuel production,meeting both per-formance and sustainability challenges to renewable energy technologies. 展开更多

The samples before and after the experiments arecompared in appearance, mass, optical properties and surface composition. The reactioncharacteristics of Teflon are summarized and the reaction mechanisms are analyzed. The followingconclusion can be drawn: at the action of VUV the Teflon sample surface is darkened for theaccumulation of carbon; and when the sample is exposed to AO, the carbon is oxidized and thedarkening surface is bleached; the synergistic effects of VUV and AO may cause the erosion of Teflonmore severe. 展开更多

This paper studies the total ionizing dose radiation effects on MOS (metal-oxide-semiconductor) transistors with normal and enclosed gate layout in a standard commercial CMOS (compensate MOS) bulk process. The leakage current, threshold voltage shift, and transconductance of the devices were monitored before and after γ-ray irradiation. The parameters of the devices with different layout under different bias condition during irradiation at different total dose are investigated. The results show that the enclosed layout not only effectively eliminates the leakage but also improves the performance of threshold voltage and transconductance for NMOS (n-type channel MOS) transistors. The experimental results also indicate that analogue bias during irradiation is the worst case for enclosed gate NMOS. There is no evident different behaviour observed between normal PMOS (p-type channel MOS) transistors and enclosed gate PMOS transistors. 展开更多

Alkaline phosphatase(ALP) plays an integral role in the metabolism of liver and development of the skeleton in humans. To date, the interactions between different-duration terahertz(THz) radiation and ALP activities, as well as the influence mechanism are still unclear. In this study, using the para-nitro-phenyl-phosphate(p NPP) method, we detect changes in ALP activities during 40-minute THz radiation(0.1 THz, 13 m W/cm^2). It is found that the activity of ALP decreases in the first 25 min, and subsequently increases in the later 15 min. Compared with the activity of ALP being heated, the results suggest that short-term terahertz radiation induces a decrease in enzyme activity through the non-thermal mechanism. In order to explore the non-thermal effects of THz radiation on ALP, we focus on the impacts of 0.1 THz radiation for 20 min on the activity of ALP in different concentrations. The results reveal that the activity of ALP decreases significantly after exposure to THz radiation. In addition, it could be deduced from fluorescence, ultraviolet-visible(UV-vis), and THz spectra results that THz radiation has induced changes in ALP structures. Our study unlocks non-thermal interactions between THz radiation and ALP, as well as suggests that THz spectroscopy is a promising technique to distinguish ALP structures. 展开更多

In this method, the joint probability model of gradient distribution is introduced by studying the "global smoothing and local fluctuation" characteristics of the bias field. A prior L0 norm of dark channel is introduced to constrain the latent clear image. Finally, the split Bregman method is used to solve the optimization problem. The effectiveness of the proposed method is verified by a series of experiments, and the results are compared with the results of the existing methods for the correction of thermal radiation effects. 展开更多

The effects of different types of ultraviolet(UV)radiation(UVR,wavelength=280-400 nm)and light intensities on cell growth,pigment composition,UV-absorbing compounds(UVACs),and chlorophyll a(Chl a)fluorescence were studied in dinoflag-ellate Prorocentrum lima cultured outdoors for 16 days and indoors for 18 days.In the outdoor experiment,UVA radiation(320-400 nm)increased the growth rate of this dinoflagellate when solar light intensities were<12%;decreased growth rates were observed when intensities were>12%.Exposure to UVB radiation(280-320 nm)alleviated the negative effects of UVA.In the indoor ex-periment,UVA and low doses of UVB enhanced growth rates.Addition of low doses of UVB to UVA exposure resulted in higher contents of Chl a and photoprotective pigments compared with UVA exposure only.The results of both experiments showed that UVB is the primary signal of UVAC synthesis.High-dose UVB exposure accelerated growth rates when UVAC contents were maintained at high levels,suggesting that the latter plays a key role in UVR damage protection.Furthermore,the repair rate was en-hanced by UVB exposure after 16 days of culture.This study confirms the positive effects of UVA and UVB on the growth of P.lima,with the latter enhancing the photoprotective and recovery pathways of the species. 展开更多

Adenosine triphosphate(ATP)borate ester as a new boron agent for boron neutron capture therapy was tested.It was synthesized via a dehydration reaction induced by heating adenosine triphosphate disodium with boric acid.Next,ATP borate ester pretreatments were assessed to study their effects on cell sensitization from exposure to thermal neutron irradiation emitted by a nuclear reactor.Using cell viability assays(CCK8),survival rates of A549 cells pretreated with or without boroncontaining agents,including ATP borate ester and 4-dihydroxyborylphenylalanine(BPA),were measured.One week after feeding an ATP borate ester solution to tumorbearing nude mice,elemental B content values of tumor muscle and blood were measured using inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry(ICP-MS).Meanwhile,other tumor tissue samples were placed in a culture medium,subjected to a 3-min neutron irradiation exposure,and then fixed in formalin 24 h later for the terminaldeoxynucleotidyl transferase(TDT)-mediated d UTP nick end labeling(TUNEL)immunohistochemical staining analysis.Results showed that A549 cell irradiation sensitization(irradiation dose of 0.33 Gy)varied with pretreatment.Sensitization values of the ATP borate ester pretreatment group were 1.3–14.1 with boron agent concentrations of 0.3–4.5 mM.Within 1.1–3.4 mM,ATP borate ester showed significantly higher sensitization values than BPA.Meanwhile,TUNEL results demonstrated that apoptosis rates of tumor tissue cells exposed to irradiation after ATP borate ester pretreatment significantly exceeded the corresponding rates for BPA-pretreated cells.In animal experiments,although the distribution ratio of ATP borate ester(tumor tissue/normal muscle,T/N)of 1.2 was not significantly different compared with that of BPA(1.3),the total ATP borate ester concentration in the tumor tissue(0.79±0.05μg/g)significantly exceeded that of BPA(0.58±0.05μg/g).Thus,compared with BPA,the greater enrichment of ATP borate ester in tumor tissues permits preferential targeting toward tumor cells for radiation sensitization.Therefore,ATP borate ester is superior to BPA for use in boron neutron capture therapy. 展开更多

The effects of radiation on 3 CG110 PNP bipolar junction transistors(BJTs)are characterized using 50-Me V protons,40-Me V Si ions,and 1-Me V electrons.In this paper,electrical characteristics and deep level transient spectroscopy(DLTS)are utilized to analyze radiation defects induced by ionization and displacement damage.The experimental results show a degradation of the current gain and an increase in the types of radiation defect with increasing fluences of 50-Me V protons.Moreover,by comparing the types of damage caused by different radiation sources,the characteristics of the radiation defects induced by irradiation show that 50-Me V proton irradiation can produce both ionization and displacement defects in the 3 CG110 PNP BJTs,in contrast to 40-Me V Si ions,which mainly generate displacement defects,and 1-Me V electrons,which mainly produce ionization defects.This work provides direct evidence of a synergistic effect between the ionization and displacement defects caused in PNP BJTs by 50-Me V protons. 展开更多

The pan-Arctic is confronted with air pollution transported from lower latitudes.Observations have shown that aerosols help increase plant photosynthesis through the diffuse radiation fertilization effects(DRFEs).While such DRFEs have been explored at low to middle latitudes,the aerosol impacts on pan-Arctic ecosystems and the contributions by anthropogenic and natural emission sources remain less quantified.Here,we perform regional simulations at 0.2o×0.2ousing a well-validated vegetation model(Yale Interactive terrestrial Biosphere,YIBs)in combination with multi-source of observations to quantify the impacts of aerosol DRFEs on the net primary productivity(NPP)in the pan-Arctic during 2001-19.Results show that aerosol DRFEs increase pan-Arctic NPP by 2.19 Pg C(12.8%)yr^(-1)under clear-sky conditions,in which natural and anthropogenic sources contribute to 8.9% and 3.9%,respectively.Under all-sky conditions,such DRFEs are largely dampened by cloud to only 0.26 Pg C(1.24%)yr^(-1),with contributions of 0.65% by natural and 0.59% by anthropogenic species.Natural aerosols cause a positive NPP trend of 0.022% yr^(-1)following the increased fire activities in the pan-Arctic.In contrast,anthropogenic aerosols induce a negative trend of-0.01% yr^(-1)due to reduced emissions from the middle latitudes.Such trends in aerosol DRFEs show a turning point in the year of 2007 with more positive NPP trends by natural aerosols but negative NPP trends by anthropogenic aerosols thereafter.Though affected by modeling uncertainties,this study suggests a likely increasing impact of aerosols on terrestrial ecosystems in the pan-Arctic under global warming. 展开更多
