The current study examined the roles of collective self-esteem and personal self-esteem in the relationship between national identity and subjective well-being.Participants were 583 Chinese college students(females=49%;mean age=19.25±1.85 years). They completed measures of national identity, collective self-esteem,personal self-esteem,and subjective well-being.Path analysis findings result indicated national identity to influence the students’subjective wellbeing through three pathways:(1)national identity→collective self-esteem→subjective well-being,meaning higher subjective wellbeing with collective self-esteem.(2)national identity→personal self-esteem→subjective well-being,to suggest higher personal self-esteem was associated with subjective wellbeing;(3)national identity→collective selfesteem→personal self-esteem→subjective well-being.Compared to simple mediation models constructed with only personal self-esteem or collective self-esteem as a single mediating variable, the chain mediation model better explains the mediating mechanism of national identity on subjective well-being(the variance explained by the mediating variables increased by 65.38%and 59.26%,respectively).The collective self-esteem and personal self-esteem mediation is consistent with social identity theory, whereby national identity enhances collective self-evaluation,which in turn bolsters personal self-worth and subjective well-being.These findings of the current study offer new insights into how national identity affects subjective well-being in collectivistic culture. 展开更多

The present study examined how students' intrinsic and extrinsic value promotes their foreign language proficiency via the mediation effect of self-efficacy beliefs. A total of 1,036 Chinese eighth graders answered an English proficiency test and questionnaires assessing motivational beliefs. Structural equation modelling results with bootstrapping procedures revealed that intrinsic value can directly and indirectly influence foreign language proficiency via partial mediation effect of self-efficacy while extrinsic value can only directly influence foreign language proficiency with a small magnitude. Moreover, there is no gender difference in the mediation model. Our findings suggested that intrinsic value can help students improve foreign language proficiency by improving their self-efficacy beliefs. The findings contribute to the documents of self-determination theory and hold substantive theoretical and practical implications for foreign language teachers. 展开更多

Background:The phenomenon of academic anxiety has been demonstrated to exert a considerable influence on students’academic engagement, leading to the emergence of a phenomenon known as“learned helplessness”and undermining the selfconfidence and motivation of high school students.Using acceptance-rejection theory, this study elucidated how a rejective parenting style affects Chinese high school students’academic anxiety and explored the urban-rural heterogeneity of this relationship. Methods:Data were analyzed using a stratified whole-cluster random sampling method. There are a total of 30,000 high school students in the three regions of northern and central China(from Shanxi,Hebei and Henan).A sample of 2286 high school students aged 14–19 years was ultimately selected from 2760 respondents for this investigation, which was conducted at the beginning of the 2023 school year.Pearson correlation, ordinary least squares(OLS)regression analysis, path analysis, and Fisher’s permutation test(FPT)were used to examine the effects of rejective parenting style on high school students’academic anxiety. Results:Results indicated a significant positive predictive effect between rejective parenting style and academic anxiety among high school students(β=0.815,t=116.211,p<0.001).Students’self-concept was significantly positively related to positive coping style(β=0.424,t=21.208,p<0.001)and chain-mediated this relationship. Therefore, this parenting style may indirectly mitigate academic anxiety through these mediators. The study also found that the effect of rejective parenting style on academic anxiety varied by students’residential background and was more pronounced in urban areas(0.226)than in rural areas(0.130).Conclusion:The research underscores the imperative for Chinese families to reexamine their utilization of rejection parenting and to prioritize the cultivation of students’intrinsic attributes. These findings offer a theoretical framework and practical evidence for policymakers and educators to develop efficacious and targeted interventions. In particular, greater attention should be directed towards the discrepancies in the manifestation of emotional and academic anxiety between urban and rural students, and prompt guidance should be furnished. 展开更多

Background:Social connection is widely recognized as a protective determinant of health, yet its direct and indirect effects on mental health remain underexplored. This study examines the relationship between social connection and mental health, focusing on the mediating role of quality of life(QoL)and the moderating effect of regional differences. Methods:We analyzed data from the 2019 Korean Community Health Survey, comprising 229,099 adults.Mental health was assessed through validated measures of depressive symptoms and psychological well-being.Social connection was measured using indicators of interpersonal ties and community participation, and QoL was assessed via self-reported health-related satisfaction across major life domains.Analytical procedures included mediation modeling and subgroup analyses by region, with significance levels set at p<0.05.Results:The results indicate that social connections are significantly associated with lower stress levels and reduced depressive symptoms, with QoL playing a critical mediating role.Notably, the indirect effect of social connection on mental health via QoL is stronger in rural areas compared to urban regions, highlighting the importance of social cohesion and community support in mental well-being.Among 203,567 adults, greater social participation was associated with lower subjective stress(total effect=−0.052,p<0.001)and fewer depressive symptoms(PHQ-9 total effect=−0.308,p<0.001).QoL significantly mediated these associations, with the strongest indirect pathways observed through usual activities(19.2%for stress;27.6%for depression)and mobility(24.4%for depression).Regional analysis showed stronger mediation in rural areas(up to 26.8%for stress and 32.6%for depression)than in urban areas(8–16%and 14.9–23%).Direct effects remained significant, indicating partial mediation. These findings highlight that social participation enhances mental health directly and indirectly through QoL,particularly in rural contexts. Conclusions:Social connection contributes to better mental health both directly and indirectly through improved QoL,with stronger effects observed in rural communities. These findings highlight the importance of fostering social cohesion and enhancing life quality as strategies for improving population mental health.Policy interventions should adopt context-sensitive approaches that account for regional differences in social resources and service availability. 展开更多

Existing evidence suggests residential greenness is beneficial to human, while no research to date explored the associations of greenness with age-related macular degeneration(AMD).To evaluate the association of greenness with AMD,modification and mediation effect of air pollution,we conducted this prospective study. We con-structed weighted quantile sum(WQS)index as co-exposure to nitrogen oxides(NO_(x)),particulate matter<2.5μm(PM_(2.5)),particulate matter<10μm(PM10).Stratified Cox regression models were applied to test the effect of exposure.Effect modification of air pollution was assessed.Stratified Cox models through the indirect method and Aalen additive risk models were used in mediation analysis.Over median follow-up of 11.67 years,4596 AMD events were ascertained.Hazard ratios(HRs)and 95%confidence intervals(95%CIs)of incident AMD for pollution per interquartile range(IQR)increment were 1.10(1.04–1.16)for nitrogen dioxide(NO_(2)),1.09(1.03–1.15)for NO_(x),1.14(1.05–1.24)for PM_(2.5),1.13(1.05–1.21)for PM10.The HR(95%CI)of AMD associated with greenness 1000 m buffer per IQR increment was 0.91(0.86–0.97),300 m buffer was 0.94(0.89–0.99).The as-sociation between greenness 1000 m and AMD was 28.59%,44.77%,35.59%,32.31%and 27.08%mediated by the decreased WQS index,NO_(2),NO_(x),PM_(2.5) and PM10,respectively.Increased greenness was associated with lower AMD incidence, and air pollution partly mediate it,which implies that interventions aimed at improving air quality and increasing greenness could have a dual benefit in mitigating AMD risk. 展开更多

Data mining has the potential to provide information for improving clinical acupuncture strategies by uncovering hidden rules between acupuncture manipulation and therapeutic effects in a data set. In this study, we performed acupuncture on 30 patients with hemiplegia due to acute ischemic stroke. All participants were pre-screened to ensure that they exhibited immediate responses to acupuncture. We used a twirling reinforcing acupuncture manipulation at the specific lines between the bilateral Baihui(GV20) and Taiyang(EX-HN5). We collected neurologic deficit score, simplified Fugl-Meyer assessment score, muscle strength of the proximal and distal hemiplegic limbs, ratio of the maximal H-reflex to the maximal M-wave(Hmax/Mmax), muscle tension at baseline and immediately after treatment, and the syndromes of traditional Chinese medicine at baseline. We then conducted data mining using an association algorithm and an artificial neural network backpropagation algorithm. We found that the twirling reinforcing manipulation had no obvious therapeutic difference in traditional Chinese medicine syndromes of "Deficiency and Excess". The change in the muscle strength of the upper distal and lower proximal limbs was one of the main factors affecting the immediate change in Fugl-Meyer scores. Additionally, we found a positive correlation between the muscle tension change of the upper limb and Hmax/Mmax immediate change, and both positive and negative correlations existed between the muscle tension change of the lower limb and immediate Hmax/Mmax change. Additionally, when the difference value of muscle tension for the upper and lower limbs was 〉 0 or 〈 0, the difference value of Hmax/Mmax was correspondingly positive or negative, indicating the scalp acupuncture has a bidirectional effect on muscle tension in hemiplegic limbs. Therefore, acupuncture with twirling reinforcing manipulation has distinct effects on acute ischemic stroke patients with different symptoms or stages of disease. Improved muscle tension in the upper and lower limbs, reflected by the variation in the Hmax/Mmax ratio, is crucial for recovery of motor function from hemiplegia. 展开更多

As promising anodes for sodium-ion batteries, metal sulfides ubiquitously suffer from low-rate and high-plateau issues, greatly hindering their application in full-cells.Herein,exemplifying carbon nanotubes(CNTs)-stringed metal sulfides superstructure(CSC)assembled by nano-dispersed SnS_(2) and CoS_(2) phases, cocktail mediation effect similar to that of high-entropy materials is initially studied in ether-based electrolyte to solve the challenges. The high nano-dispersity of metal sulfides in CSC anode underlies the cocktail-like mediation effect, enabling the circumvention of intrinsic drawbacks of different metal sulfides.By utilizing ether-based electrolyte, the reversibility of metal sulfides is greatly improved, sustaining a long-life effectivity of cocktail-like mediation. As such,CSC effectively overcomes low-rate flaw of SnS_(2) and highplateau demerit of CoS_(2),simultaneously realizes a high rate and a low plateau. In half-cells,CSC delivers an ultrahigh-rate capability of 327.6 mAh g^(−1) anode at 20 A g^(−1),far outperforming those of monometallic sulfides(SnS_(2),CoS_(2))and their mixtures.Compared with CoS_(2) phase and SnS_(2)/CoS_(2) mixture,CSC shows remarkably lowered average charge voltage up to ca.0.62 V.As-assembled CSC//Na1.5VPO4.8F0.7 full-cell shows a good rate capability(0.05~1.0 A g^(−1),120.3 mAh g^(−1) electrode at 0.05 A g^(−1))and a high average discharge voltage up to 2.57 V,comparable to full-cells with alloy-type anodes.Kinetics analysis verifies that the cocktail-like mediation effect largely boosts the charge transfer and ionic diffusion in CSC,compared with single phase and mixed phases.Further mechanism study reveals that alternative and complementary electrochemical processes between nano-dispersed SnS_(2) and CoS_(2) phases are responsible for the lowered charge voltage of CSC.This electrolyte/structure-dependent cocktail-like mediation effect effectively enhances the practicability of metal sulfide anodes, which will boost the development of high-rate/-voltage sodium-ion full batteries. 展开更多

The effect of investor sentiment on stock volatility is a highly attractive research question in both the academic field and the real financial industry. With the proposal of China’s"dual carbon"target, green stocks have gradually become an essential branch of Chinese stock markets.Focusing on 106 stocks from the new energy, environmental protection, and carbon–neutral sectors,we construct two investor sentiment proxies using Internet text and stock trading data, respectively. The Internet sentiment is based on posts from Eastmoney Guba, and the trading sentiment comes from a variety of trading indicators. In addition,we divide the realized volatility into continuous and jump parts, and then investigate the effects of investor sentiment on different types of volatilities. Our empirical findings show that both sentiment indices impose significant positive impacts on realized, continuous, and jump volatilities, where trading sentiment is the main factor. We further explore the mediating effect of information asymmetry, measured by the volume-synchronized probability of informed trading(VPIN),on the path of investor sentiment affecting stock volatility. It is evidenced that investor sentiments are positively correlated with the VPIN,and they can affect volatilities through the VPIN.We then divide the total sample around the coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)pandemic.The empirical results reveal that the market volatility after the COVID-19 pandemic is more susceptible to investor sentiments, especially to Internet sentiment. Our study is of great significance for maintaining the stability of green stock markets and reducing market volatility. 展开更多

Colorectal cancer(CRC)poses significant physical and psychological challenges that necessitate an exploration of factors influencing post-traumatic growth(PTG)for patient well-being.This study aims to investigate the effects of positive psychological capital(PsyCap)and perceived stress on mediating the social support-PTG relation among 673 CRC patients.Social support, positive PsyCap,perceived stress, and PTG were assessed through questionnaires. The results indicated a direct prediction effect of social support on PTG(LICI=0.481,ULCI=0.644),with the direct effect being 59.5%.Both positive PsyCap and perceived stress exerted a mediating role in the correlation between social support and PTG,with the mediating effects occupying 29.4%(LICI=0.217,ULCI=0.343)and 5.7%(LICI=0.030,ULCI=0.082),respectively.Positive PsyCap further had a chain mediating effect on perceived stress(LICI=0.031,ULCI=0.074),with the chain effect accounting for 5.4%.The total impact of social support on PTG was 100%(LICI=0.882,ULCI=1.008).This model underscores the pivotal role of social support in promoting PTG in CRC patients.Positive PsyCap serves as a crucial mediator in the social support-PTG link, with perceived stress playing a sequential mediating role.Thesefindings suggest that strengthening social support networks and cultivating positive PsyCap may reduce perceived stress and promote the development of PTG in CRC patients.Consequently, intervention programs are recommended to improve the psychosocial well-being of CRC patients. 展开更多

Background The present study aimed to investigate the detailed mode and specific sites for their binding as well as the functional relevance of this binding in the phenotypic proliferation of vascular smooth muscle cells(SMCs). Methods CREG knocked-down SMCs were employed to evaluate the biological activity of wtCREG and mCREG.Expressions of SMC differentiation markers SM myosin heavy chain(SM-MHC),SM-actin,heavy caldesmon and myocardin were determined by Western blotting using specific antibodies. Cellular growth of SMCs was assessed by bromide dewuridine (BrdU) incorporation and cell cycle analysis on fluorescence-activated cell sorting(FACS).A solid-phase binding assay was used to study the binding of CREG to extracellular domains of M6P/IGF2R.The cellular co-localization of the two recombinant CREGs with M6P/IGF2R was detected on SMC surface by immunoprecipitation and immunofluorescence analysis. Results The molecular weight of wtCREG was around 30 kD while that of the mCREG was~25 kD.Treatment of wtCREG with PNGase F reduced its molecular weight from~30 kD to~25 kD,whereas PNGase F treatment had no effect on the molecular weight of mCREG.Both wtCREG and mCREG proteins enhanced SMC differentiation, inhibited BrdU incorporation, and arrested cell cycle progression when added to the culture medium. In CREG knocked-down SMCs,the amount of CREG detected by immunoblotting in M6P/IGF2R immunoprecipitates was significantly reduced when compared to normal cells. Both recombinant CREGs co-immunoprecipitated with M6P/IGF2R, although slightly reduced amount of the mutant CREG was detected in M6P/IGF2R immunoprecipitates.Immunostaining revealed that His-tagged CREGs co-localized with IGF2R on the cell surface in a glycosylation-independent manner. In vitro binding assay showed that CREGs bound to M6P/ IGF2R extracellular domains 7-10 and 11-13 in a glycosylation -dependent and -independent manner, respectively.Further blocking experiments using soluble M6P/IGF2R fragments and M6P/IGF2R neutralizing antibody indicated that the biological activities of recombinant CREGs in SMC growth and the up-regulation of SMC differentiation markers were all abolished by treatment with the M6P/IGF2R neutralizing antibody. However, although the growth inhibitory effect of wtCREG was nearly abolished by D7-10 or D11-13,the effect of mCREG was only reversed by Dll-13,indicating that the binding to domains 11-13 is required for CREG to modulate the proliferation of SMCs.Conclusions These data suggest that solubleCREG proteins can exert their biological function via binding to the extracellular domains 7-10 and 11-13 of cell surface M6P/IGF2R in both a glycosylation-dependent and -independent manner. 展开更多

To explore the relationship between social support and sleep quality of community workers in Wuhan during the coronavirus disease 2019(the COVID-19 infection epidemic),this research constructed a mediating effect model to explore the mediating psychological mechanism of social support influencing sleep quality of front-line community workers.A total of 500 front-line community workers in Wuhan were investigated. We used the perceived social support scale(PSSS),the Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale(CD-RISC),the perceived stress scale(PSS),and the Pittsburgh sleep quality index(PSQI)to measure social support, psychological resilience, perceived stress and sleep quality.Specifically, the higher the PSQI,the worse the sleep quality.Pearson correlation structural equation model was used to analyze the relationship between these factors. The results showed that:(1)There was a significant negative correlation between social support, psychological resilience, and perceived stress of community workers and PSQI,that means, the higher the level of social support, psychological resilience, and perceived stress, the higher the sleep quality.(2)Social support positively predicted psychological resilience and perceived stress, and perceived stress negatively predicted PSQI.(3)Social support can affect sleep quality through the mediating role of psychological resilience and perceived stress, and the mediating role includes two paths:the single mediating role of perceived stress and the chain mediating role of psychological resilience-perceived stress.(4)Gender moderates the relation-ship between social support and perceived stress, and the influence of social support on perceived stress of women is higher than that of men.Gender moderates the relationship between psychological resilience and PSQI,and only women’s psychological resilience had a negatively predictive effect on PSQI,while men did not, which means that psychological resilience of female frontline community workers can positively predict sleep quality. This research reveals the relationship between social support and sleep quality and its mechanism and verifies that social support can indirectly affect physical health through psychological resilience and perceived stress. It provides reference suggestions and intervention guidance for improving the sleep quality of community workers. 展开更多

This study investigates the impact of investor protection on corporate R&D investment using panel data from Chinese A-share listed companies spanning 2015 to 2022.By employing OLS regression, mediation, and moderation analyses, the results demonstrate that robust investor protection mechanisms significantly enhance corporate R&D expenditures. The mediation analysis reveals that investor protection alleviates financing constraints and improves information disclosure quality, both of which serve as key channels for fostering R&D investment.Furthermore, internal control systems and media attention are identified as positive moderators, amplifying the beneficial effects of investor protection on R&D.In contrast, the equity Herfindahl index(HHI)does not exhibit a significant moderating role. The study also highlights that financial leverage, profitability, and equity concentration negatively influence R&D,while revenue growth exerts a positive effect. These findings underscore the critical role of investor protection in driving corporate innovation and sustainable growth, offering valuable insights for policymakers and corporate managers aiming to optimize R&D strategies through improved governance frameworks. 展开更多

Objective:To study the relationship, the mediating effect of organizational commitment on nurses’ethical climate and ethical behavior. Methods:Structural Equation Modeling(SEM)was employed to perform path analysis in this exploratory study. The participants consisted of 280 Iranian nurses who were studied through proportional random sampling. The research tool was consisted of(1)the Ethical Climate Questionnaire by Cullen and Victor, which examines the ethical standards of selfishness, philanthropy, and ethical principles,as well as the reference sources of ethical arguments, including individual, regional, and global ones;(2)Allen and Mayer’s questionnaire, which measures organizational commitment in 3 areas:emotional commitment, continuous commitment, and normative commitment;and(3)Peterson’s Ethical Behavior Questionnaire, which combines nine items to form interconnected ethical behaviors and is based on a 5-point Likert scale. The data were analyzed using AMOS and SPSS v.23 software. Results:The correlation coefficient between the two variables, ethical climate and ethical behavior, showed a significant relationship(r=0.10,p=0.085).The organizational commitment showed a significant relationship between some dimensions and the total ethical climate. The ethical climate affects the organizational commitment(beta=3.261)and behavior(beta=0.121).Organizational commitment does not show any significant relationship with ethical behavior. The ethical climate affects the organizational commitment and the ethical behavior. Conclusions:Nursing managers and nursing staff should consider the ethical climate that affects the organizational commitment and nursing ethical behavior. 展开更多

Objective The study aim was to investigate the effects of exposure to multiple environmental organic pollutants on cardiopulmonary health with a focus on the potential mediating role of oxidative stress. Methods A repeated-measures randomized crossover study involving healthy college students in Beijing was conducted. Biological samples, including morning urine and venous blood, were collected to measure concentrations of 29 typical organic pollutants, including hydroxy polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons(OH-PAHs), bisphenol A and its substitutes, phthalates and their metabolites, parabens, and five biomarkers of oxidative stress. Health assessments included blood pressure measurements and lung function indicators. Results Urinary concentrations of 2-hydroxyphenanthrene(2-OH-PHE)(β = 4.35% [95% confidence interval(CI): 0.85%, 7.97%]), 3-hydroxyphenanthrene(β = 3.44% [95% CI: 0.19%, 6.79%]), and 4-hydroxyphenanthrene(4-OH-PHE)(β = 5.78% [95% CI: 1.27%, 10.5%]) were significantly and positively associated with systolic blood pressure. Exposures to 1-hydroxypyrene(1-OH-PYR)(β = 3.05% [95% CI:-4.66%,-1.41%]), 2-OH-PHE(β = 2.68% [95% CI:-4%,-1.34%]), and 4-OH-PHE(β = 3% [95% CI:-4.68%,-1.29%]) were negatively associated with the ratio of forced expiratory volume in the first second to forced vital capacity. These findings highlight the adverse effects of exposure to multiple pollutants on cardiopulmonary health. Biomarkers of oxidative stress, including 8-hydroxy-2'-deoxyguanosine and extracellular superoxide dismutase, mediated the effects of multiple OH-PAHs on blood pressure and lung function. Conclusion Exposure to multiple organic pollutants can adversely affect cardiopulmonary health.Oxidative stress is a key mediator of the effects of OH-PAHs on blood pressure and lung function. 展开更多
