To evaluate bridge seismic responses more accurately, proper analytical models of bearings and shear keys should be developed. Based on a series of cyclic loading experiments and analyses, rational analytical models of laminated elastomeric bearings and shear keys, which can consider mechanical degradation, were developed. The effect of the mechanical degradation was investigated by examining the seismic response of a small-to-medium-span bridge in the transverse direction under a wide range of peak ground accelerations(PGA). The damage mechanism for small-to-medium-span highway bridges was determined, which can explain the seismic damage investigation during earthquakes in recent years. The experimental results show that the mechanical properties of laminated elastomeric bearings will degrade due to friction sliding, but the degree of decrease is dependent upon the influencing parameters. It can be concluded that the mechanical degradation of laminated elastomeric bearings and shear keys play an important role in the seismic response of bridges. The degradation of mechanical properties of laminated elastomeric bearings and shear keys should be included to evaluate more precise bridge seismic performance.展开更多

We derived limit load of surrounding rock shear slip failure and reasonable support resistance of given load by means of shear slip line field theory, discussed the main factors which influence the limit load of surrounding rock. Shear slip line field and limit load of circular tunnel surrounding rock were obtained by means of physical simulation test, which agreed well with the theoretical analysis results. Based on the theoretical analysis and physical simulation test, the cause deformation and failure at large scale of Xinshanghai No. 1 coal mine big section ingate was analyzed, and the shear failure resistance and block slip in surrounding rock were proposed as the core technical supporting ideas. Proper range of supporting resistance which came from calculation was suggested. The support scheme which is mainly composed of large grouting anchor, sprayed anchor net support technique and full-face grille concrete finally ended the dilemma of repeated failure and mending of ingate and created critical conditions for smooth production in the coal mine.展开更多

The shear angle and forming defects of the fabrics were measured on the hemisphere, under different blank holder forces(BHFs). The results showed that increasing BHF could enhance the shear angle slightly, reduce the asymmetry for the deformation of the fabrics, and change the main type of the process-induced defects. Besides, compression tests were performed on the corresponding composite components. By analyzing the change of fiber volume fraction and structural parameters of the textile reinforcements, the effects of draping behavior of NCFs on the mechanical performance of the composites were studied. The results reveal that draping process has distinguishable impacts on the mechanical properties of the final components, which is closely related to the stitching pattern of the NCFs.展开更多

Fluid–solid coupling effects and safety margins in a rock pillar were studied. Analysis shows that rock pillar instability, exerted by disturbance stress and seepage stress, is the process of rock pillar catastrophic destabilization induced by nonlinear extension of plastic zones in the rock pillar. Seepage flow emerges in the rock pillar for preventing water inrush, accompanied by mechanical instability of the rock pillar. Taking the accident of a confined karst cave water-inrush of Qiyi Mine as an example, by studying the safety factor of the rock pillar and the relationship between karst cave water pressure and thickness of the rock pillar,it is proposed that rock pillar thickness with a safety factor equal to 1.5 is regarded as the calculated safety thickness of the rock pillar, which should be equal to the sum of the blasthole depth, blasting disturbance depth and the calculated safety thickness of the rock pillar. The cause of the karst water inrush at Qiyi Mine is that the rock pillar was so small that it did not possess a safety margin. Combining fluid–solid coupling theory, catastrophic theory and strength reduction method to study the nonlinear mechanical response of complicated rock engineering, new avenues for quantitative analysis of rock engineering stability evaluation should be forthcoming.展开更多

The general concept of blanking seems a simple one but governing parameters are many and have a complex relationship which directly affect the quality of the produced parts (blanks) and also the energy efficiency of the process. The main problem is the lack of prediction capabilities of the effect of these parameters that lead to time, money and labor consuming trial and error procedures in experimental studies. Usage of FEM based programs to simulate blanking to obtain numerical results and observe the shearing mechanism is a cheap and a detailed way for industrial applications. In this study five different clearances (1%, 3%, 5%, 10% and 20%) and three different thicknesses (t = 2 mm, t = 3 mm and t = 4 mm) were used for simulation and experimental studies of the blanking process. Simulations were executed by using the FEM program, Deform 2-D. Investigations were made on the parameters related to crack progression like crack initiation and crack propagation angles, indentation angle, rollover angle and depth and also the related blanking energy values. The results of the present paper are in agreement with the results of experimental studies.展开更多

Parametric dislocation dynamics(PDD) simulation of the interaction between an edge dislocation and randomly distributed spherical dispersoids(Y2O3) in bcc iron was performed for measuring the influence of the dispersoid distribution on the critical resolved shear stress(CRSS). The dispersoid distribution was made using a method mimicking the Ostwald growth mechanism. Then, an edge dislocation was introduced, and was moved under a constant shear stress condition. The CRSS was extracted from the result of dislocation velocity under constant shear stress using the mobility(linear) relationship between the shear stress and the dislocation velocity. The results suggest that the dispersoid distribution gives a significant influence to the CRSS, and the influence of dislocation dipole, which forms just before finishing up the Orowan looping mechanism, is substantial in determining the CRSS, especially for the interaction with small dispersoids. Therefore, the well-known Orowan equation for determining the CRSS cannot give an accurate estimation, because the influence of the dislocation dipole in the process of the Orowan looping mechanism is not accounted for in the equation.展开更多

The degradation of mechanical properties of laminated elastomeric bearings and shear keys should be included to evaluate more precise bridge seismic performance.

文摘The original descriptive model of shear stress and shear displacement only reflects the stress deformation characteristics of plastic structural plane. The index model was revised and piecewise index model was built to describe the stress deformation characteristics of plastic structural plane and brittle structural plane. The relation of stress and strain to the failure mode of structural plane considering the effect of its shape was investigated, and a model which could reflect the relation between undulate angle and shear strength was built. The result indicates that structural plane presents nonlinear characteristics, specifically, the value of undulate angle,as well as corresponding shear strength, becomes larger as the normal stress decreases.

文摘The redistribution of three-dimensional(3D)geostress during underground tunnel excavation can easily induce to shear failure along rockmass structural plane, potentially resulting in engineering disasters. However, the current understanding of rockmass shear behavior is mainly based on shear tests under2D stress without lateral stress, the shear fracture under 3D stress is unclear, and the relevant 3D shear fracture theory research is deficient. Therefore, this study conducted true triaxial cyclic loading and unloading shear tests on intact and bedded limestone under different normal stress σ_(n) and lateral stressσ_(p)to investigate the shear strength, deformation, and failure characteristics. The results indicate that under differentσ_(n)and σ_(p),the stress–strain hysteresis loop area gradually increases from nearly zero in the pre-peak stage, becomes most significant in the post-peak stage, and then becomes very small in the residual stage as the number of shear test cycles increases. The shear peak strength and failure surface roughness almost linearly increase with the increase inσ_(n),while they first increase and then gradually decrease asσ_(p)increases,with the maximum increases of 12.9%for strength and 15.1%for roughness. The shear residual strength almost linearly increases withσ_(n),but shows no significant change withσ_(p).Based on the acoustic emission characteristic parameters during the test process, the shear fracture process and microscopic failure mechanism were analyzed. As the shear stressτincreases, the acoustic emission activity, main frequency, and amplitude gradually increase, showing a significant rise during the cycle near the peak strength, while remaining almost unchanged in the residual stage. The true triaxial shear fracture process presents tensile-shear mixture failure characteristics dominated by microscopic tensile failure.Based on the test results,a 3D shear strength criterion considering the lateral stress effect was proposed, and the determination methods and evolution of the shear modulus G,cohesion c_(jp),friction angleφ_(jp),and dilation angleψjpduring rockmass shear fracture process were studied.Under differentσ_(n)andσ_(p),G first rapidly decreases and then tends to stabilize;cjp,φ_(jp),andψjpfirst increase rapidly to the maximum value, then decrease slowly, and finally remain basically unchanged.A 3D shear mechanics model considering the effects of lateral stress and shear parameter degradation was further established, and a corresponding numerical calculation program was developed based on3D discrete element software. The proposed model effectively simulates the shear failure evolution process of rockmass under true triaxial shear test, and is further applied to successfully reveal the failure characteristics of surrounding rocks with structural planes under different combinations of tunnel axis and geostress direction.

文摘The measured data and simulation test phenomenon of surrounding rock deformation and failure at the project site indicate that shear failure which firstly occurs in surrounding rock, block slip and second shear failure are the root cause of deformation and damage of supporting structure of the surrounding rock at a large scale. The support scheme which is mainly composed of large grouting anchor, sprayed anchor net support technique and full-face grille concrete finally ended the dilemma of repeated failure and mending of ingate and created critical conditions for smooth production in the coal mine.

文摘The effects of Mn addition(0.005,0.01,0.03,0.05,and 0.07 wt.%)on microstructure, shear mechanical behavior, and interfacial thermal stabilities of SAC305 joints were investigated under isothermal aging temperatures of 170 C with different aging time(0,250,500,and 750 h).It is found that Mn addition can increase fracture energy of joints without decreasing the shear strength. And the microstructures have transformed from the eutectic net-like structure in SAC305 solder joints into the structures based onβ-Sn matrix with intermetallic compounds(IMCs)distributed.By doping 0.07 wt.%Mn,the Cu_(6)Sn_(5) growth along the SAC305/Cu interface during thermal aging can be inhibited to some extent.During isothermal aging at 170°C,the maximum shear force of solder joint decreases continuously with aging time increasing, while the fracture energy rises first and then decreases, reaching the maximum at 500 h compared by that with the microstructure homogenization.Cu_(3)Sn growth between Cu_(3)Sn_(5)/Cu interface has been retarded most at the aging time of 250 h with 0.07 wt.%Mn-doped joints. With the aging time prolonging, the inhibition effect of Mn on CusSn IMC layer becomes worse. The strengthening effect of Mn can be explained by precipitation strengthening, and its mechanical behavior can be predicted by particle strengthening model proposed by Orowan.

文摘Superalloy thin-walled structures are achieved mainly by brazing, but the deformation process of brazed joints is non-uniform,making it a challenging research task. This paper records a thorough investigation of the effect of brazing parameters on the microstructure of joints and its mechanical properties, which mainly inquires into the deformation and fracture mechanisms in the shearing process of GH99/BNi-5a/GH99 joints. The macroscopic-microscopic deformation mechanism of the brazing interface during shearing was studied by Crystal Plasticity(CP)and Molecular Dynamics(MD)on the basis of the optimal brazing parameters. The experimental results show that the brazing interface is mainly formed by(Ni,Cr,Co)(s,s)and possesses a shear strength of approximately 546 MPa.The shearing fracture of the brazed joint occurs along the brazing seam, displaying the characteristics of intergranular fracture.MD simulations show that dislocations disassociate and transform into fine twinning with increased strain.CP simulated the shear deformation process of the brazed joint. The multiscale simulation results are consistent with the experimental results. The mechanical properties of thin-walled materials for brazing are predicted using MD and CP methods.

文摘Different amounts of Fe(0.005,0.01,0.03,0.05,and 0.07 wt%)were added to SAC305 to study the shear behavior damage of Fe-doped SAC solder joints under thermal loading(170℃,holding time of 0,250,500,and 750 h).The results show that during isothermal aging at 170℃,the average shear force of all solder joints decreases with increasing aging time, while the average fracture energy first increases and then decreases, reaching a maximum at 500 h.Minor Fe doping could both increase shear forces and related fracture energy, with the optimum Fe doping amount being 0.03 wt%within the entire aging range. This is because the doping Fe reduces the undercooling of the SAC305 alloy, resulting in the microstructure refining of solder joints. This in turn causes the microstructure changing from network structure(SAC305 joint:eutectic network+β-Sn)to a single matrix structure(0.03Fe-doped SAC305 joint:β-Sn matrix+small compound particles).Specifically,Fe atoms can replace some Cu in Cu_(6)Sn_(5)(both inside the solder joint and at the interface),and then form(Cu,Fe)_(6)Sn_(5) compounds, resulting in an increase in the elastic modulus and nanohardness of the compounds. Moreover, the growth of Cu_(6)Sn_(5) and Cu_(3)Sn intermetallic compounds(IMC)layer are inhibited by Fe doping even after the aging time prolonging, and Fe aggregates near the interface compound to form FeSn_(2).This study is of great significance for controlling the growth of interfacial compounds, stabilizing the microstructures, and providing strengthening strategy for solder joint alloy design.

文摘This paper proposes a new analytical solution to predict the shear modulus of a two-dimensional(2D) plain weave fabric(PWF) composite accounting for the interaction of orthogonal interlacing strands with coupled shear deformation modes including not only relative bending but also torsion, etc. The two orthogonal yarns in a micromechanical unit cell are idealized as curved beams with a path depicted by using sinusoidal shape functions. The internal forces and macroscopic deformations carried by the yarn families, together with macroscopic shear modulus of PWFs are derived by means of a strain energy approach founded on micromechanics.Three sets of experimental data pertinent to three kinds of 2D orthogonal PWF composites have been implemented to validate the new model. The calculations from the new model are also compared with those by using two models in the earlier literature. It is shown that the experimental results correlate well with predictions from the new model.

文摘In order to investigate the draping behavior of non-crimp fabrics(NCFs), two types of carbon NCFs with tricot-chain stitches or chain stitches were formed on a hemispherical mould via a stretch forming process. The results reveal that draping process has distinguishable impacts on the mechanical properties of the final components, which is closely related to the stitching pattern of the NCFs.

文摘Bulk metallic glasses(BMGs)have attracted considerable attention in the last few decades particularly triggered by their potential applications as novel structural and/or functional materials, owing to their superior strength, large elastic strain limit and relatively low Young′s modulus etc.compared to their crystalline counterparts. Here,a 3Dreconstruction application to the fractography and the morphology of shear bands was reported for a ductile Zr_(56)Co_(28)Al_(16)(at.%)BMG through a Phenom series desktop scanning electron microscope. The results of the 3Dreconstruction and the following contour analysis indicate a typical shear fracture mode for the investigated alloy. It is inferred that the fractography and the morphology of shear bands might be dependent on their composition, structure states, and loading conditions for BMGs.

文摘In order to study the mechanism of water inrush from a concealed, confined karst cave, we established a fluid–solid coupling model of water inrush from a concealed karst cave ahead of a roadway and a strength reduction method in a rock pillar for preventing water inrush based on catastrophic theory. Combining fluid–solid coupling theory, catastrophic theory and strength reduction method to study the nonlinear mechanical response of complicated rock engineering, new avenues for quantitative analysis of rock engineering stability evaluation should be forthcoming.
文摘Blanking is a major process and has a wide range of usage in manufacturing industry. The results of the present paper are in agreement with the results of experimental studies.
文摘A discrete dislocation plasticity analysis of dispersion strengthening in oxide dispersion strengthened(ODS) steels was described. Therefore, the well-known Orowan equation for determining the CRSS cannot give an accurate estimation, because the influence of the dislocation dipole in the process of the Orowan looping mechanism is not accounted for in the equation.
