We implemented a novel method by comprehensively integrating migration models and sedimentary structures. Firstly, the migration architectures of the corresponding characteristics in planform and cross-sectional models were summarised as expansion, translation, expansion and translation, expansion and downstream rotation, constriction and downstream rotation, and expansion and countercurrent rotation models. Secondly, full continuous core data from 270 dense drilling wells were collected from the Daqing Oil Field in the Songliao Basin, China, providing information on rock textures, sedimentary cycles, and boundary information for the two layers being studied. Through a comprehensive analysis of dense drill cores and logging data, the abandoned channels and the initial and final channel centrelines were identified. Consequently, four profiles, including one longitudinal and three transverse sections, were constructed to reveal the cross-sectional structures and planform migration architecture. Profile interpretation revealed the evolution from the initial channel centreline to the final centreline. Using a method of rational interpolation, we were able to reconstruct the migration architecture of the meandering channels. The results showed that the average ancient bankfull width(Wc) was approximately 100 m, a single meandering belt was800 m, the radius of the curvature was 250 m, the length of the channel bend was 700 m, the average meander wavelength was 1300 m, the sinuosity was 3.0, and the annual average discharge rate was 450 m3/s. Furthermore, we compared the results from empirical equations, which verified that our reconstruction is both feasible and potentially widely applicable.展开更多

The results show that the model was able to capture the essential features of these path variations. We used one simulation of the model as the reference state and investigated the effects of errors in model parameters on the prediction of the transition to the Kuroshio large meander (KLM) state using the conditional nonlinear optimal parameter perturbation (CNOP-P) method. Because of their relatively large uncertainties, three model parameters were considered: the interracial friction coefficient, the wind-stress amplitude, and the lateral friction coefficient. We determined the CNOP-Ps optimized for each of these three parameters independently, and we optimized all three parameters simultaneously using the Spectral Projected Gradient 2 (SPG2) algorithm. Similarly, the impacts caused by errors in initial conditions were examined using the conditional nonlinear optimal initial perturbation (CNOP-I) method. Both the CNOP-I and CNOP-Ps can result in significant prediction errors of the KLM over a lead time of 240 days. But the prediction error caused by CNOP-I is greater than that caused by CNOP-P. The results of this study indicate not only that initial condition errors have greater effects on the prediction of the KLM than errors in model parameters but also that the latter cannot be ignored. Hence, to enhance the forecast skill of the KLM in this model, the initial conditions should first be improved, the model parameters should use the best possible estimates.展开更多

For each LM event, two types of initial error(denoted as CNOP1 and CNOP2) were obtained. Their large amplitudes were found located mainly in the upper 2500 m in the upstream region of the LM, i.e., southeast of Kyushu. Furthermore, we analyzed the patterns and nonlinear evolution of the two types of CNOP. We found CNOP1 tends to strengthen the LM path through southwestward extension. Conversely,CNOP2 has almost the opposite pattern to CNOP1, and it tends to weaken the LM path through northeastward contraction. The growth mechanism of optimal initial errors was clarified through eddy-energetics analysis. The results indicated that energy from the background field is transferred to the error field because of barotropic and baroclinic instabilities. Thus, it is inferred that both barotropic and baroclinic processes play important roles in the growth of CNOP-type optimal initial errors.展开更多

However, relatively few studies have focused on how multiple factors interact to affect the morphological evolution of meandering reaches. Using hydrological and topographical data, we analyzed the factors that influence and regulate the meandering reaches downstream the Three Gorges Dam (TGD). Our conclusions are as follows. (1) The meandering reaches can be classified into two types based on their evolution during the pre-dam period: G1 reaches, characterized by convex point bar erosion and concave channel deposition (CECD), and G2 reaches, characterized by convex point bar deposition and concave channel erosion (CDCE). Both reach types exhibited CECD features during the post-dam period, (2) Flow processes and sediment transport are the factors that caused serious erosion of the low beaches located in the convex point bars. However, changes in the river regime, river boundaries and jacking of Dongting Lake do not act as primary controls on the morphological evolution of the meandering reaches. (3) Flood discharges ranging from 20,000 to 25,000 m^3/s result in greater erosion of convex point bars. The point bars become scoured if the durations of these flows, which are close to bankfull discharge, exceed 20 days. In addition, the reduction in bedload causes the decreasing of point bar siltation in the water-falling period. (4) During the post-dam period, flood abatement, the increased duration of discharges ranging from 20,000 to 25,000 m^3/s, and a significant reduction in sediment transport are the main factors that caused meandering reaches to show CECD features. Our results are relevant to other meandering reaches, where they can inform estimates of riverbed change, river management strategies and river protection.展开更多

The Bhagirathi River flows SW for ~67.30 km between the confluence point of Ajay and Jalangi rivers in East Burdwan and Nadia districts of West Bengal. The course of Bhagirathi is notably migration prone and cultivates problematic changes along its course over time. In the study, we have looked into its migration tendency and unpredictability for past 238 years and then predicted the lateral shifting of river centerline using temporal satellite imageries – Landsat-5(TM) of 1987(8, December), 1995(28, January), 2005(7, January) and LISS-IV satellite imagery(2017, 5 January);SOI Toposheet – 1968–1969(79 A/2, 79 A/3, 79 A/6 and 79 A/7) and Rennell's map of 1779. Other highlights are the quest of fluvial features, oxbow lakes, mid-channel bars, channel migration rate, meander geometry, channel sinuosity in different parts of river course and the parts that experience intensive bank erosion. The entire river course has been subdivided into three segments; viz. reaches A, B and C. Investigation displays that degree of sinuosity decreases from its anterior course(1968) to the existing course(2017). Reach-specific outputs display that reach B is highly sinuous(SI value 1.94 in 2017) and SI increases temporarily, whereas for reaches A and C it decreases with time. The rate of migration is higher in reach B than that in reaches C and A. The study displays a notably decreasing trend of migration in comparison with its previous lateral migration and shows that the migration nature over time is intensively inconsistent and unpredictable except very few portions of the river course. The nature of deposition within the river channel shows an unstable behavior during the entire period of the study. Meander geometry depicts a rapid change of river course innate to meander bends and shows a higher rate of migration by meander loop cut-off rather than lateral migration that reflects the inconsistency, erosion vulnerability and unpredictable nature of migration. The present work offers a valuable source to comprehend channel changes in Bhagirathi River and serve as an efficacious base for river-bank migration and erosion hazard planning and management.展开更多

The governing equation with curvilinear coordinates is derived from the momentum equation and the flow continuity equation under the condition of quasi-uniform flow. A series of experiments are conducted in a large-scale meandering compound channel. Based on the experimental data, a magnitude analysis is carried out for the governing equation, and two lower-order shear stress terms are ignored. Four groups of experimental data from different sources are used to verify the predictive capability of this model, and good predictions are obtained. Finally, the determination of the velocity parameter and the limitation of this model are discussed.展开更多

Based on considerable experimental data, quantitative analyses for the influences of two important characteristic times, liquid phase physical properties and aspect ratio are made on the prediction criteria for the bubble/slug length of Taylor flow in a meandering microchannel. A simple principle is suggested to predict the bubble formation period by using the information of Rayleigh time and capillary time for six gas–liquid systems with average deviation of 10.96%. Considering physical properties of the liquid phase and cross-section configuration of the rectangular mcirochannel, revised scaling laws for bubble length are established by introducing Ca, We, Re and W/h whether for the squeezing-driven or shearing-driven of bubble break. In addition, a simple principle in terms of Garstecki-type model and bubble formation period is set-up to predict slug lengths. A total of 107 sets of experimental data are correlated with the meandering microchannel and operating range: 0.001 b CaTPb 0.05, 0.06 b WeTPb 9.0,18 b ReTPb 460 using the bubble/slug length prediction equation from current work. The average deviation between the correlated data and the experimental data for bubble length and slug length is about 9.42% and9.95%, respectively.展开更多

By combining the sedimentary facies study with 3D geological modeling to generate 3D sedimentary facies model, the 3D geometry and distribution feature of sand bodies can be more accurately characterized, particularly in 3D view. In Liuchu oilfield of Jizhong depression, the Ed2IV formation was recognized as meandering river deposition facies and five sedimentary facies were identified, which include point bar sand, levee, channel margin, abandoned channel and floodplain. All the 24 sand body facies in Ed2IV were mapped and the 3D sedimentary facies model established based on 2D facies maps. The result shows that the 3D sedimentary facies model is well matched for the research result of sedimentary facies. Being an extension of traditional sedimentary study, the 3D sedimentary facies model can be used to describe the 3D geometry and distribution orders of a single sand body more reliably and more accurately.展开更多

We use the Lamb antisym- metric (A0) mode and symmetric (SO) mode as an example for analysis. The analytical expression of the magnitude of the spatial Fourier transform of the Lorentz force generated by different meander coils is used to determine the optimal driving frequency for single mode generation. The numerical calculation is used to characterize the new magnetic configuration and the conventional EMAT magnet. Experimental examinations of each meander coil in combination with the conventional and new magnetic configuration show that the Lamb wave signal can be selectively enhanced by choosing the appropriate driving frequency and coil parameters through using the improved meander-coil EMAT.展开更多

In order to prepare SNSPD with high performance, it is necessary to fabricate a large area of uniform meander nanowires, which is the core of the SNSPD. In this paper, we demonstrate a process of patterning ultra-thin NbN films into meander-type nanowires by using the nano- imprint technology. In this process, a combination of hot embossing nano-imprint lithography (HE-NIL) and ultraviolet nano-imprint lithography (UV-NIL) is used to transfer the meander nanowire structure from the NIL Si hard mold to the NbN film. We have successfully obtained a NbN nanowire device with uniform line width. The critical temperature (Tc) of the superconducting NbN meander nanowires is about 5 K and the critical current (lc) is about 3.5 μA at 2.5 K.展开更多

The model uses a semi-implicit scheme to remove the most stringent Courant-Friedriechs-Levy (CFL) constraint. We have modified this model by introducing a predictor-corrector scheme to remove the inertial instability due to the Euler forward scheme in time used in the ECOMSI. Instead, the neutral amplification of the eigenvalue is obtained for the inertial oscillation. Thus, the new version of the model (called the predictorcorrector or P-C version) is able to simulate the unstable baroclinic waves and ocean mesoscale eddies in a very low viscosity environment. Meanders of a current with some similarity to mesoscale features are well reproduced. The unstable baroclinic waves are examined for flat, positive (same sense as isopycnal tilt) and negative bottoms. The growth rates with flat, gentle, medium, and steep slopes and with different wavelength (wave number) channels are discussed. A gentle positive slope significantly suppresses the meandering wave growth rate which slightly shifts to a lower wave number coml. 文摘Reconstructing meandering paleo-channels is attracting global research attention. Furthermore, we compared the results from empirical equations, which verified that our reconstruction is both feasible and potentially widely applicable.

The results indicated that energy from the background field is transferred to the error field because of barotropic and baroclinic instabilities. Thus, it is inferred that both barotropic and baroclinic processes play important roles in the growth of CNOP-type optimal initial errors.

文摘In order to explore the influence of sandstone architecture on waterflooding mechanisms using the architecture method, and taking as an example the M-I layer of the Kumkol oilfield in the South Turgay Basin,Kazakhstan,we portrayed the architecture features of different types of sandstones and quantitatively characterized heterogeneities in a single sand body in meandering river facies.Based on the waterflooding characteristics of point bar sand and overbank sand according to waterflooded interpretation results in 367 wells and numerical simulation results of well groups,we finally analyzed the remaining oil potential of the meandering river sandstone and pointed out its development directions at the high water cut stage. The result shows that because lateral accretion shale beds are developed inside single sand bodies, the point bar sand is a semi-connected body. The overbank sand is thin sandstone with poor connectivity, small area and fast lateral changes. The heterogeneity of the overbank sand is stronger than the point bar sand. The sandstone architectures control the waterflooding characteristics. In meandering river sandstones, the bottom of the point bar sand is strongly waterflooded, while the top of the point bar sand and most of the overbank sand are only weakly waterflooded or unflooded. The thickness percentage of unflooded zone and weakly waterflooded zone in point bar sand is 40%,and the remaining oil in its top part is the main direction for future development.

文摘Elucidating the influence of dams on fluvial processes can inform river protection and basin management. Our results are relevant to other meandering reaches, where they can inform estimates of riverbed change, river management strategies and river protection.
文摘Lateral migration of the Bhagirathi River temporally creates unavoidable geomorphic hazards in West Bengal, India. The present work offers a valuable source to comprehend channel changes in Bhagirathi River and serve as an efficacious base for river-bank migration and erosion hazard planning and management.

文摘Sensitive areas for prediction of the Kuroshio large meander using a 1.5-layer,shallowwater ocean model were investigated using the conditional nonlinear optimal perturbation(CNOP) and first singular vector(FSV) methods.A series of sensitivity experiments were designed to test the sensitivity of sensitive areas within the numerical model. The following results were obtained:(1) the effect of initial CNOP and FSV patterns in their sensitive areas is greater than that of the same patterns in randomly selected areas, with the effect of the initial CNOP patterns in CNOP sensitive areas being the greatest;(2) both CNOP- and FSV-type initial errors grow more quickly than random errors;(3) the effect of random errors superimposed on the sensitive areas is greater than that of random errors introduced into randomly selected areas, and initial errors in the CNOP sensitive areas have greater effects on final forecasts. These results reveal that the sensitive areas determined using the CNOP are more sensitive than those of FSV and other randomly selected areas. In addition, ideal hindcasting experiments were conducted to examine the validity of the sensitive areas. The results indicate that reduction(or elimination) of CNOP-type errors in CNOP sensitive areas at the initial time has a greater forecast benefit than the reduction(or elimination) of FSVtype errors in FSV sensitive areas. These results suggest that the CNOP method is suitable for determining sensitive areas in the prediction of the Kuroshio large-meander path.

文摘A simple but applicable analytical model is presented to predict the lat- eral distribution of the depth-averaged velocity in meandering compound channels. Finally, the determination of the velocity parameter and the limitation of this model are discussed.

文摘In order to reduce or avoid the fluctuations from interface breakup, a meandering microchannel with curved multi-bends(44 turns) is fabricated, and investigations of scaling bubble/slug length in Taylor flow in a rectangular meandering microchannel are systematically conducted. The average deviation between the correlated data and the experimental data for bubble length and slug length is about 9.42% and9.95%, respectively.
文摘Sedimentary facies study is an important method in describing the property and distribution of reservoir. 3D geological modeling is a powerful tool in 3D characterization of geological bodies. Being an extension of traditional sedimentary study, the 3D sedimentary facies model can be used to describe the 3D geometry and distribution orders of a single sand body more reliably and more accurately.
文摘To obtain microstructure of magnetic devices, the thin film inductors were fabricated by the process such as thin film manufacturing, photolithography and wet etching. The frequency characteristics of these devices are measured at high frequency range. When the inductor sizes of the spiral and the meander type are same, the inductance and the quality factor of the spiral type inductor are larger than those of the meander type inductor, but the driving frequency of the spiral type inductor is lower than that of the meander type inductor.

文摘In this paper, we investigate a method of selectively enhancing the single mode signal of a Lamb wave by using a meander-coil electromagnetic acoustic transducer (EMAT) with a new magnetic configuration. Experimental examinations of each meander coil in combination with the conventional and new magnetic configuration show that the Lamb wave signal can be selectively enhanced by choosing the appropriate driving frequency and coil parameters through using the improved meander-coil EMAT.

文摘Superconducting nanowire single photon detector (SNSPD), as a new type of superconducting single photon detector (SPD), has a broad application prospect in quantum communication and other fields. The critical temperature (Tc) of the superconducting NbN meander nanowires is about 5 K and the critical current (lc) is about 3.5 μA at 2.5 K.

文摘The residual oil in the fluvial reservoir of Gudong Oilfield is still widely developed even after decades of development. In order to explore the remaining oil in the subsurface fluvial reservoir,we need to have a better understanding on fluvial sandbody characteristics. This paper aims to demonstrate how to quantify anatomy on meandering fluvial architecture.Sedimentologic data from core descriptions of Guantao Formation in Gudong Oilfield were used to identify architectural elements. The upper Guantao Formation consists of ten lithofacies composing five different types of architectural elements.By integrating the available core, well logs, and seismic data, the fluvial sandbody distribution was analyzed. To characterize the fluvial channel geomorphology,we used seismic inversion to explore the stratigraphic correlation and stacking patterns of different channels, and the sandbody isopach map was obtained by the sandbody thickness in each layer. The architectural elements distribution in the plane was mapped by the sandbody isopach map and its profile characteristics.According to the investigation of meandering fluvial outcrops, subsurface meandering fluvial seismic geomorphology, and modern river morphology, the upstream-bar portions are always eroded because of the downstream channel migration.Statistics on the morphometric parameters(bar width/looplength,upstream deflection angle, downstream deflection angle, etc.)of modern meandering river(Ob River)were obtained from the Google Earth. It is found that the bar width/looplength and upstream deflection angle, upstream deflection angle and downstream deflection angle in modern meandering river have a good relationship, and we can have a quantitative architectural characterization on the point bar. This study quantified lithofacies thickness and proportion in different architectural elements of Guantao Formation, which ensures a high resolution anatomy on the small scale architecture.By using this method, the lithofacies proportion in each architectural element was computed, and through the statistics of architectural elements proportion in the Gudong Oilfield, the different lithofacies proportions in the block 6 can be computed.
文摘A three-dimensional, primitive-equation model, Blumberg's ECOMSI (Estuarine and Coastal Ocean Model with a Semi-Implicit scheme), is modified and applied to the simulation of the ocean mesoscale eddies and unstable baroclinic waves across a density front in a channel. 文摘With the Regional Ocean Modeling System(ROMS),this paper investigates the sensitive areas in targeted observation for predicting the Kuroshio large meander(LM)path using the conditional nonlinear optimal perturbation approach. To identify the sensitive areas, the optimal initial errors(OIEs)featuring the largest nonlinear evolution in the LM prediction are first calculated;the resulting OIEs are localized mainly in the upper 2500 m over the LM upstream region, and their spatial structure has certain similarities with that of the optimal triggering perturbation.Based on this spatial structure, the sensitive areas are successfully identified, located southeast of Kyushu in the region(29°–32°N,131°–134°E).A series of sensitivity experiments indicate that both the positions and the spatial structure of initial errors have important effects on the LM prediction, verifying the validity of the sensitive areas. Then, the effect of targeted observation in the sensitive areas is evaluated through observing system simulation experiments. When targeted observation is implemented in the identified sensitive areas, the prediction errors are effectively reduced, and the prediction skill of the LM event is improved significantly. This provides scientific guidance for ocean observations related to enhancing the prediction skill of the LM event.

文摘We used the conditional nonlinear optimal perturbation(CNOP) method to explore the optimal precursor of the transition from Kuroshio large meander(LM) to straight path within a barotropic inflowoutflow model, and found that large amplitudes of the optimal precursor are mainly located in the east of Kyushu, which implies that perturbations in the region are important for the transition from LM to straight path.Furthermore,we investigated the transition processes caused by the optimal precursor, and found that these processes could be divided into three stages. In the first stage,a cyclonic eddy is advected to the formation region of the Kuroshio large meander, which enhances the LM path and causes a cyclonic eddy to shed from the Kuroshio mainstream. This process causes the LM path to change into a small meander path.Subsequently, the small meander is maintained for a period because the vorticity advection is balanced by the beta effect in the second stage. In the third stage, the small meander weakens and the straight path ultimately forms. The positive vorticity advecting downstream is responsible for this process. The exploration of the optimal precursor will conduce to improve the prediction of the transition processes from LM path to straight path, and its spatial structure can be used to guide Kuroshio targeted observation studies.

Taking Minghuazhen Formation in the northern block of Q oilfield, Bohai Sea as an examPle,the authors studied identification marks, distribution Pattern and scale of Point bar based on coring, logging and dynamic data. The results show that the length of Point bar and the width of lateral accretion body are 713-911 m and 71-111m,resPectively;the diP angle and the thickness of lateral accretion bedding are 3. 5o-5. 9o and 0. 1-0. 5 m. The lateral accretion beddings are the key factor affecting the seePage velocity of the tracer.
