In this study, three main kinds of cereal straws were collected from five grain producing areas in China. Fine particulate matters (PMzs) from the cereal straws subjected to control burnings, both under smoldering and flaming status, were sampled by using a custom made dilution chamber and sampling system in the laboratory. Element carbon (EC) and organic carbon (OC) was analyzed. 141 compounds of organic matters were measured by gas chromatography-mass spectrum (GC-MS). Source profiles of particulate organic matters emitted from cereal straw burnings were obtained. The results indicated that organic matters contribute a large fraction in fine particulate matters. Levoglucosan had the highest contributions with averagely 4.5% in mass of fine particulates and can be considered as the tracer of biomass burnings. Methyloxylated phenols from lignin degradation also had high concentrations in PM2.5, and contained approximately equal amounts of guaiacyl and syringyl compounds. 13-Sitostrol also made up relatively a large fraction of PMz5 compared with the other sterols (0.18%-0.63% of the total fine particle mass). Normal alkanes, PAHs, fatty acids, as well as normal alkanols had relatively lower concentrations compared with the compounds mentioned above. Carbon preference index (CPI) of normal alkanes and alkanoic acids showed characteristics of biogenic fuel burnings. Burning status significantly influenced the formations of EC and PAHs. The differences between the emission profiles of straw and wood combustions were displayed by the fingerprint compounds, which may be used to identify the contributions between wood and straw burnings in source apportionment researches.展开更多

In the present study, the release and binding forms of Cr, Cu, Zn, Pb under hydrodynamic conditions were investigated using an annular flume. Two sediments located at YLZ and GBD from Liangshui River, Beijing were resuspended for 10 hr at 0.159 and 0.267 m/see, respectively. The concentrations of suspended particulate matters of YLZ were higher than those of GBD during resuspension, indicating that the former sediment is more sensitive to the velocity. Cr in the dissolved phase stayed nearly constant at about 2.25 and 1.84 I^g/L for YLZ and GBD, respectively, due to the high percentage of its stable binding fractions in both sediments, while Cu, Zn, and Pb showed a fast release in the initial period of time. However, their concentrations in SPM generally decreased with time and were higher at the lower velocity of 0.159 m/see, which resulted from the entrainment and depressing effect of larger size particles with lower heavy metal content, commonly referred to as the "particle concentration effect". In addition, the binding form and heavy metal fractions were also found to vary during the resuspension event. A decrease in the sulphide/organic matters bounded form in GBD sediment was observed, whereas no visible changes were perceived in YLZ site samples. This phenomenon is due to the oxidation of heavy metal-sulphide binding forms, which originated from its high acid volatile sulphide content in GBD sediment.展开更多

Ozonation and ultrafiltration(UF) are powerful technologies reported to eliminate EDCs. Due to the importance of effluent organic matters(EfOMs) in secondary effluent, the effects of three kinds of EfOM on the treatment of five EDCs using ozonation and UF were investigated. The three kinds of EfOM studied were humic acid sodium salt(NaAH), bovine serum albumin(BSA)and sodium alginate(NaAg); and the five EDCs were estrone, 17β-estradiol, estriol, 17α-ethynyl estradiol and bisphenol A. The results showed that EfOM accelerated the decay rate of ozone and inhibited the degradation efficiency of EDCs by ozonation in the order NaAH > BSA > NaAg.The ultraviolet absorbance at 280 nm(UVA_(280)) has potential for use as a surrogate indicator to assess EDC removal via ozonation without conducting difficult EDC analyses. When the decline in UVA_(280) exceeded 18%, the five EDCs had been completely removed. The UF behavior of NaAH,BSA and NaAg was found to follow the cake filtration law. The fouling potential of EfOM followed the order NaAg > NaAH > BSA; while EfOM on the membrane surface enhanced EDC removal in the order NaAH > BSA > NaAg. The mean retention rate of the membrane was increased by 24%, 10% and 8%, respectively. The properties of EDCs and EfOM cakes both influenced the EDC removal rates due to adsorption, size exclusion and charge attraction.展开更多

To gain insight into the best strategy to optimize IOM removal, the coagulation performance of two Al salts, i.e., aluminum chloride(AlCl_3) and polyaluminum chloride(PACl, containing 81.2% Al_(13)), was investigated to illuminate the effect of Al species distribution on IOM removal. PACl showed better removal efficiency than AlCl_3 with regard to the removal of turbidity and dissolved organic carbon(DOC), owing to the higher charge neutralization effect and greater stability of pre-formed Al_(13) species. High pressure size exclusion chromatography analysis indicated that the superiority of PACl in DOC removal could be ascribed to the higher binding affinity between Al_(13) polymer and the low and medium molecular weight(MW) fractions of IOM. The results of differential log-transformed absorbance at 254 and 350 nm indicated more significant formation of complexes between AlCl_3 and IOM, which benefits the removal of tryptophan-like proteins thereafter. Additionally,PACl showed more significant superiority compared to AlCl_3 in the removal of <5 kD a and hydrophilic fractions, which are widely viewed as the most difficult to remove by coagulation. This study provides insight into the interactions between Al species and IOM, and advances the optimization of coagulation for the removal of IOM in eutrophic water.展开更多

The p H-dependent diffusion coefficient of arsenate was determined and compared with values from previous studies; the coefficient was found to decrease with increasing p H, showing the validity of our novel diffusion cell method. The D value increased dramatically as a function of membrane pore size at small pore sizes, and then increased slowly at pore sizes larger than 2.0 μm. Using the Exp Assoc model, the maximum D value was determined to be 11.2565 × 10^-6cm^2/sec. The presence of dissolved organic matters led to a dramatic increase of the D of arsenate, which could be attributed to electrostatic effects and ionic effects of salts. These results improve the understanding of the diffusion behavior of arsenate, especially the important role of various environmental parameters in the study and prediction of the migration of arsenate in aquatic water systems.展开更多

文摘Interfacial superconductivity(IS)has been a topic of intense interest in condensed matter physics, due to its unique properties and exotic photoelectrical performance. However, there are few reports about IS systems consisting of two insulators. Here, motivated by the emergence of an insulator-metal transition in type-Ⅲ heterostructures and the superconductivity in some“special”two-dimensional(2D)semiconductors via electron doping,we predict that the 2D heterostructure SnSe_(2)/PtTe_(2) is a model system for realizing IS by using firstprinciples calculations. Our results show that due to slight but crucial interlayer charge transfer,SnSe_(2)/PtTe_(2) turns to be a type-Ⅲ heterostructure with metallic properties and shows a superconducting transition with the critical temperature(T_(c))of 3.73 K.Similar to the enhanced electron–phonon coupling(EPC)in the electrondoped SnSe_(2) monolayer, the IS in the SnSe_(2)/PtTe_(2) heterostructure mainly originates from the metallized SnSe_(2) layer.Furthermore,we find that its superconductivity is sensitive to tensile lattice strain, forming a domeshaped superconducting phase diagram.Remarkably,at 7%biaxial tensile strain, the superconducting T_(c) can increase more than twofold(8.80 K),resulting from softened acoustic phonons at the𝑀point and enhanced EPC strength. Our study provides a concrete example for realizing IS in type-Ⅲ heterostructures, which waits for future experimental verification.

文摘Myelination, the continuous ensheathment of neuronal axons,is a lifelong process in the nervous system that is essential for the precise, temporospatial conduction of action potentials between neurons.Myelin also provides intercellular metabolic support to axons.Even minor disruptions in the integrity of myelin can impair neural performance and increase susceptibility to neurological diseases. In fact, myelin degeneration is a well-known neuropathological condition that is associated with normal aging and several neurodegenerative diseases, including multiple sclerosis and Alzheimer’s disease. In the central nervous system, compact myelin sheaths are formed by fully mature oligodendrocytes. However, the entire oligodendrocyte lineage is susceptible to changes in the biological microenvironment and other risk factors that arise as the brain ages.In addition to their well-known role in action potential propagation, oligodendrocytes also provide intercellular metabolic support to axons by transferring energy metabolites and delivering exosomes. Therefore, myelin degeneration in the aging central nervous system is a significant contributor to the development of neurodegenerative diseases.Interventions that mitigate age-related myelin degeneration can improve neurological function in aging individuals. In this review,we investigate the changes in myelin that are associated with aging and their underlying mechanisms. We also discuss recent advances in understanding how myelin degeneration in the aging brain contributes to neurodegenerative diseases and explore the factors that can prevent, slow down,or even reverse age-related myelin degeneration.Future research will enhance our understanding of how reducing age-related myelin degeneration can be used as a therapeutic target for delaying or preventing neurodegenerative diseases.

文摘Spinal cord injury(SCI)interrupts the flow of information between the brain and the spinal cord, thus leading to a loss of sensory information and motor paralysis of the body below the lesion.Surprisingly, most SCIs are incomplete and spare supraspinal pathways, especially those located within the peripheral white matter of the spinal cord, which includes reticulospinal pathways originating from the medullary reticular formation.Whereas there is abundant literature about the motor cortex, its corticospinal pathway, and its capacity to modulate functional recovery after SCI,less is known about the medullary reticular formation and its reticulospinal pathway.

文摘To elucidate the geographical differentiation characteristics and driving mechanisms of Dissolved Organic Matter(DOM)in typical rivers, this study conducted a multi-spectral investigation on three representative river types within Shandong Province:The mountainous Dawen River, the plain Tuhai River, and the artificial East Grand Canal. The DOM composition was analyzed using Ultraviolet-Visible(UV-Vis)absorption spectroscopy,Excitation-Emission Matrix(EEM)fluorescence spectroscopy, and parallel factor analysis(PARAFAC),while Principal Component Analysis(PCA)was employed to quantify the synergistic effects of natural processes and anthropogenic activities. Results revealed significant spatial heterogeneity in DOM composition and sources. The plain river exhibited the highest aromaticity(humic-like components:43.3%)due to long-term agricultural non-point source inputs and urban wastewater discharge. The mountain stream, shaped by complex terrain and relatively intact ecosystems, was dominated by autochthonous DOM derived from microbial metabolism, with higher Fluorescence Index(FI=2.12)and biological index(BIX=1.35)than other river types. The artificial canal retained protein-like components(64.2%),largely attributed to winter hydrological stagnation and disturbances from shipping activities.Further analysis demonstrated that geographical settings(e.g.,mountain terrain)and anthropogenic activities(e.g.,agriculture,shipping)jointly regulated DOM composition by altering the balance between input and transformation processes.Integrated fluorescence parameters and PCA results suggested differentiated management strategies:protecting ecological integrity in mountain streams to sustain selfpurification, enhancing non-point source interception in plain rivers, and mitigating shipping pollution in canals. This study systematically reveals the natural-anthropogenic coupling mechanisms driving DOM dynamics in northern China rivers, providing critical insights for precision water environment management at the watershed scale.

文摘Recent evidence suggests that ferroptosis plays a crucial role in the occurrence and development of white matter lesions. However, the mechanisms and regulatory pathways involved in ferroptosis within white matter lesions remain unclear.Long non-coding RNAs(lnc RNAs)have been shown to influence the occurrence and development of these lesions. We previously identified lnc_011797 as a biomarker of white matter lesions by high-throughput sequencing. To investigate the mechanism by which lnc_011797 regulates white matter lesions,we established subjected human umbilical vein endothelial cells to oxygenglucose deprivation to simulate conditions associated with white matter lesions. The cells were transfected with lnc_011797 overexpression or knockdown lentiviruses. Our findings indicate that lnc_011797 promoted ferroptosis in these cells, leading to the formation of white matter lesions.Furthermore,lnc_011797 functioned as a competitive endogenous RNA(ce RNA)for mi R-193b-3p,thereby regulating the expression of WNK1 and its downstream ferroptosis-related proteins. To validate the role of lnc_011797 in vivo,we established a mouse model of white matter lesions through bilateral common carotid artery stenosis. The results from this model confirmed that lnc_011797 regulates ferroptosis via WNK1 and promotes the development of white matter lesions. These findings clarify the mechanism by which lnc RNAs regulate white matter lesions, providing a new target for the diagnosis and treatment of white matter lesions.

文摘Cereal straw is one of the most abundant biomass burned in China but its contribution to fine particulates is not adequately understood. The differences between the emission profiles of straw and wood combustions were displayed by the fingerprint compounds, which may be used to identify the contributions between wood and straw burnings in source apportionment researches.

文摘Sediment resuspension plays an important role in the transport and fate of heavy metals in the aquatic environment. This phenomenon is due to the oxidation of heavy metal-sulphide binding forms, which originated from its high acid volatile sulphide content in GBD sediment.

文摘Endocrine disrupting chemicals(EDCs) in the secondary effluent discharged from wastewater treatment plants are of great concern when water reuse is intended. The properties of EDCs and EfOM cakes both influenced the EDC removal rates due to adsorption, size exclusion and charge attraction.

文摘Coagulation is the best available method for removing intracellular organic matter(IOM),which is released from algae cells and is an important precursor to disinfection by-products in drinking water treatment. This study provides insight into the interactions between Al species and IOM, and advances the optimization of coagulation for the removal of IOM in eutrophic water.

文摘Presented here is the influence of membrane pore size and dissolved organic matters on the diffusion coefficient(D) of aqueous arsenate, investigated by the diffusion cell method for the first time. These results improve the understanding of the diffusion behavior of arsenate, especially the important role of various environmental parameters in the study and prediction of the migration of arsenate in aquatic water systems.
