Man-land relationship research, as the core of geographical research, runs through each development stage of Geography. Based on extensive literature review, this paper systematically generalizes the connotations, res...Man-land relationship research, as the core of geographical research, runs through each development stage of Geography. Based on extensive literature review, this paper systematically generalizes the connotations, research development and contents of man-land relationship in China. (1) It explores the connotations and evolvement rules of man-land rela- tionship in different social development stages in China, and finds that the core role of man-land relationship in geographical research has been strengthened continuously. Changing with times, its connotations have been considerably enriched by sustainable de- velopment and other notions, and so does its theoretical system. (2) It applies the bibliometric method to sketch out the basic research status of man-land relationship in China. Specifically, it quantitatively identifies the funding sources, major research teams and journals for publica- tion. It finds that the funding sources show a diversification trend with national funding being the primary source of research grants. The most competitive research teams are mainly concentrated in the Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and normal universities. Journals sponsored by The Geographical Society of China are most influential in publishing man-land relationship re- search. (3) As resources and environment are the fundamental carriers of man-land rela- tionship, this study focuses further on the research on resource-environmental base of man-land relationship, and finds that the resource-environmental base research in China has gone through an evolution process from single factor perspective research to comprehensive multiple perspective research gradually. Research themes have also experienced similar changes from land, water, energy minerals or other single factor research to comprehensive factor research of resources and environment. Empirical study on national and regional de- velopment strategies is the feature of man-land relationship in China. More emphasis should be put on considering and following the changes in features of "man" and "land" and research on the impacts of new factors on man-land relationship in a developing and dynamic manner in the future. Particularly, we should pay more attention to research on the impacts of spa- tio-temporal changes in resource-environment absolute location on modes of man-land in- teraction, and to strengthening interdisciplinary research and systematic research on comprehensive techniques so as to advance the development of application of man-land rela-tionship theories and practices.展开更多

Therefore, our rese...Function allocation is one of the necessary stages in the design course of man-machine systems since appropriate function allocation makes the whole system more effective, reliable and inexpensive. Therefore, our research mainly focuses on the problems of function allocation between man and machine in man-machine systems, analyses each capability advantage of man and machine according to their respective inherent characteristics and makes a comparison between them. In view of highly uncertain characteristics of decision attribute value in the practical process, we introduce the uncertain linguistic multiple attribute decision making (ULMADM) method in the function allocation process. Meanwhile, we also use the uncertain extended weighted arithmetic averaging (UEWAA) method to determine the automation level range of the operator functions. Then, we eventually estab- lish the automation level of man-machine function allocation by using the multi-attribute decision making algorithm, which is combined by UEWAA and uncertain linguistic hybrid aggregation (ULHA) operators. Finally, an example about function allocation is given, that is, fault diagnosis in the cockpit of civil aircraft. The final result of the example demonstrates that the proposed method about function allocation is feasible and effective.展开更多

Selected case studies are reported first with the intent to gain insights int...This paper describes the interaction between deep-seated landslides and man-made structures such as dams, penstocks, viaducts, and tunnels. Selected case studies are reported first with the intent to gain insights into the complexities associated with the interaction of these structures with deep-seated landslides(generally referred to as deep-seated gravity slope deformations, DSGSDs). The main features, which characterize these landslides, are mentioned together with the interaction problems encountered in each case. Given the main objective of this paper, the numerical modeling methods adopted are outlined as means for increase in the understanding of the interaction problems being investigated. With the above in mind, the attention moves to an important and unique case history dealing with the interaction of a large-size twin-tunnel excavated with an earth pressure balance(EPB)tunnel boring machine(TBM) and a deep-seated landslide, which was reactivated due to the stress changes induced by tunnel excavation in landslide shear zone. The geological and geotechnical conditions are described together with the available monitoring data on the landslide movements, based on the advanced and conventional monitoring tools used. Numerical modeling is illustrated as an aid to back-analyze the monitored surface and subsurface deformations and to assist in finding the appropriate engineering solution for putting the tunnel into service and as a follow-up means for future understanding and control of the interaction problems. The simulation is based on a novel time-dependent model representing the landslide behavior.展开更多

Man-made object detection is of great significance in both military and civil areas, such as search-and-rescue missions at sea, traffic signs recognition during visual navigation, and targets location in a military st...Man-made object detection is of great significance in both military and civil areas, such as search-and-rescue missions at sea, traffic signs recognition during visual navigation, and targets location in a military strike. Contours of man-made objects usually consist of straight lines, corner points, and simple curves. Motivated by this observation, a man-made object detection method is proposed based on complexity evaluation of object contours. After salient contours which keep the crucial information of objects are accurately extracted using an improved mean-shift clustering algorithm, a novel approach is presented to evaluate the complexity of contours. By comparing the entropy values of contours before/after sampling and linear interpolation, it is easy to distinguish between man-made objects and natural ones according to the complexity of their contours.Experimental results show that the presented method can effectively detect man-made objects when compared to the existing ones.展开更多

The development device uses the patient’s volunt...A system that allows computer interaction by disabled people with very low mobility and who cannot use the standard procedure based on keyboard and mouse is presented. The development device uses the patient’s voluntary biomechanical signals, specifically, winks—which constitute an ability that generally remains in this kind of patients—, as interface to control the computer. A prototype based on robust and low-cost elements has been built and its performance has been validated through real trials by 16 users without previous training. The system can be optimized after a learning period in order to be adapted to every user. Also, good results were obtained in a subjective satisfaction survey that was completed by the users after carrying out the test trials.展开更多
