Seismic quantitative reservoir simulations and characterizations have played a vital role in exploring stratigraphic traps, such as lateaggradational lowstands prograding wedge systems(LPWS)within lowstands systems tracts(LST).However, seismic data acquisition operations are always dominated by exceptional seismic coherent noise events,e.g.,multiples,which reduce the signal strengths of the sourcegenerated incident seismic waves within vertically and laterally heterogeneous earth systems.Hence, these noise events create hurdles in predicting paleo-depositional impedance(PDI),paleo-thickness(PTS),paleo-dense fractured networks, erosional and depositional zones, faultcontrolled migrations, and types of seismic reflection configurations(SRFC),which are key elements in developing stratigraphic pinch-out traps. This research utilizes the state-of-the-art technologies of spectral wavelet-based instantaneous time-frequency analysis and seismic waveform frequency-controlled porosity-constrained static reservoir simulation(FDPVS)tools to quantify the LPWS inside the Onshore Basin,Pakistan. The use of conventional amplitude-based seismic attributes, such as the average energy, remained a better tool for deciphering the overall geological architecture of the LPWS.Conventional FDPVS realizations resolved a PDI of−1.391 gm./c.c.^(*)m/s to−0.97 gm./c.c.^(*)m/s for LPWS with PTS of 12 and 20 m,respectively.A 0.9 km lateral extent of paleo-dense fractured networks(PDFN)with a strong linear regression R^(2)=0.93 was also resolved.Average energy attribute-based instantaneous frequency FDPVS realizations enabled the imaging of parallel-toprograding SRFC with resolved magnitudes of−0.259 gm./c.c.^(*)m/s for PDI,20 m for PTS,and 0.73 km for PDFN with linear regression transforms at R^(2)=0.92,which indicates the deposition of onlap fill facies inside the LPWS during extensive sea-level fall. These realizations have also resolved frequency-controlled fault migrations on 27-Hz spectral waveform-based amplitude plots with 2.174 gm./c.c.^(*)m/s PDI for conduit fault systems and 27-Hz with 0.585 gm./c.c.^(*)m/s PDI for sealing fault systems. All these structural configurations are completely sealed up by transgressive seals of transgressive systems tracts and, hence, developed into pure stratigraphic-based oil and gas plays. This research has strong implications for side-tracking drilling locations and provides an analogue for basins with similar geology and stratigraphy worldwide. 展开更多

The characteristics of petroliferous plays in subtle traps within a sequence stratigraphic framework in the Dongying Depression are investigated in this study.Sand bodies within lowstand systems tracts(LSTs)of sequences, comprising incisedchannel fills, sublacustrine fans, deltas in LSTs,controlled by syndepositional normal faults, and sand bodies within transgressive systems tracts(TSTs)to early highstand systems tracts(HSTs),consisting of beach bars, and turbidites, controlled by the prodelta slope, paleorelief, and syndepositional normal faults, are good subtle reservoirs.Mudstones and shale of deep lake subfacies in TSTs to early HSTs of sequences are source and cap rocks.Abnormal overpressure is the dominant dynamic factor for hydrocarbon migration from source rock to the subtle traps.Normal faults, sand bodies, and unconformities function as conduit systems.Sand bodies distributed in the abnormal overpressure source rocks within LSTs to early HSTs are petroliferous plays in lithologic traps. The petroliferous plays in stratigraphic traps are controlled by unconformities at margins of the Depression. 展开更多

The Middle Jurassic Shaximiao Formation encompasses tens of meters of thick lowstand meandering valley (LMV) strata in the western Sichuan foreland basin. Ancient LMVs newly discovered in this area were further studied based on sequence stratigraphy and seismic sedimentology. The aim of the present study was to investigate the sedimentary characteristics, sequence architecture, and the controls on LMV deposition in this tectonically active basin using field survey data, seismic sections, seismic amplitude imaging, core description, and comprehensive application of drilling data. The results show the following: (1) Three regional sequence boundaries and two flooding surfaces were recognized, and the Shaximiao For- mation was divided into two-third-order sequences and four systems tracts. (2) Three sedimentary facies associations were identified: incised valley-fill, tributary channel, and overbank facies. Incised valleys are 5-17 km wide, 20-60 m deep and traceable for 120 km along their axes. (3) In the downstream segment, the role of tectonism gradually diminishes, and periodic base-level changes control the form and evolution of the incised valleys. Three types of LMVs--AI, A2, and A3--developed with changes in base level (lake level); of these types, the base level of the A3 LMV was likely the lowest. 展开更多

By using drilling,high-precision 3 D seismic data, data of geochemistry, logging and testing, the reservoir characteristics and accumulation conditions of the KL6-1 lithologic oilfield in the Laibei Low Uplift in the Bohai Sea are examined comprehensively. The study shows that:KL6-1 oilfield is a monolithic,high-quality,large-scale Neogene lithologic oilfield featuring shallow reservoir depth, high productivity, concentrated oil-bearing intervals, large oil-bearing area, and high reserve abundance;hydrocarbon source supply from two directions provides a sufficient material basis for the formation of large oil field;two types of"inherited structural ridge"developed under the effect of block rotation, late active faults formed by Neotectonic movement, and widely distributed contiguous sand bodies provide an efficient oil and gas transportation system for the large-scale accumulation of oil and gas;contiguous channel and lacustrine lowstand system sand bodies developed in low accommodation condition provide the basic condition for the formation of large-scale lithologic traps;deep formations structural ridge, faults(dominant migration pathways)and large-scale superimposed contiguous sand bodies constitute a"vine type"oil and gas migration and accumulation system in the Laibei Low Uplift, which is conducive to the formation of large-scale and high-abundance lithologic reservoir in this area. The successful discovery of KL6-1,100 million ton reserve order lithologic oil field, has revealed the exploration potential of Neogene large lithologic reservoirs in Bohai Sea,expanded the exploration field, and also has certain reference significance for the exploration of large lithologic reservoirs in similar areas. 展开更多

The Ordovician karst carbonate reservoirs on the northern slope of central Tarim Basin are important oil and gas exploration targets in the basin, but their dissolution mechanisms are in controversy. In this paper, based on the integrated study of sedimentation, sequence and reservoir, together with microscopic analysis and macroscopic seismic data analysis, the carbonate karst reservoirs in the study area were divided into three types: dissolved pore-cavity limestone reservoir, pore-cavity dolomite reservoir and fracture-cavity siliceous reservoir, and their forming mechanisms were discussed respectively. Some findings were obtained. First, dissolved pore-cavity limestone reservoirs are distributed in the upper Yingshan Fm and Yijianfang Fm of the Ordovician vertically, while pore-cavity dolomite reservoirs are mainly developed in the Penglai Fm and lower Yingshan Fm of the Ordovician with great thickness. Second, dissolved pore-cavity limestone reservoirs were formed by karstification on the third-order sequence boundary (lowstand tract), while pore-cavity dolomite reservoirs were formed by deep burial dolomitization controlled by karstification on the third-order sequence boundary, both of which are distributed in the highstand tract below the third-order sequence boundary. Third, siliceous reservoirs are developed under the control of faulting, as a result of reworking of deep hydrothermal fluids along faults to the limestone, and the siliceous reservoirs and their hydrothermal solution fracture-cavity systems are distributed near faults. It is further predicted that, in addition to the three types of reservoir above, platform-margin reef-flat reservoirs are developed in the Ordovician on the northern slope of central Tarim Basin. 展开更多

The distinctive sedimentation patterns of the late Neoproterozoic Girbhakar Sandstone were investigated within the context of a Precambrian sedimentation system devoid of vegetation. This comprehensive study utilized an integrated approach, incorporating facies analysis, fluvial architectural elements analysis, and palaeocurrent analysis,to offer detailed insights into the controlling factors of sedimentology and depositional settings within the studied interval.Process-based facies analysis revealed thirteen distinct facies types organized into five associations, uncovering a diverse range of depositional palaeoenvironments—from alluvial fan and braided fluvial to transitional marine settings. An alluvial fan, dominated by debris flow and multiple ephemeral channels at the basin margin, emerged initially. The stratigraphic architecture of this alluvial fan and the associated ephemeral fluvial system was primarily influenced by water table fluctuations in arid to semiarid climatic conditions.A transition to a semi-perennial to perennial braided fluvial system occurred as the depositional slope decreased. However, the stratigraphic architecture of these fluvial systems exhibited distinctive variations in response to fluctuating base level rise.Notably, the basal segment, characterized by an unconformity below and a granular lag succeeded by wave-agitated sandstone above, represented the lowstand systems tract(LST).During the early LST,channel belts prograded at the northern distal end of upstream aggradational semi-perennial braided systems in response to the transgression of Girbhakar Sea from the north, aligning with the late Neoproterozoic Indian plate configuration. The coarsening upward deposits suggest a potential classification as a braid-delta,formed by a gradual rise in base level, low epeiric gradient, and episodic flashy discharges, which facilitate the downstream development of this deposit.During the late LST,the evolution of perennial fluvial systems resulted in braid-plain deposits throughout the study area, with a transitional marine unit at the downstream site.An accelerated rate of base level rise facilitated marine reworking, leading to the deposition of transitional marine sediments. The final phase of base level rise marked the cessation of terrestrial deposition, culminating in the submergence of the site underneath the sea.The study highlights the unique responses of alluvial sediments to diverse controlling factors along the deposition downslope. This enhances insights into Neoproterozoic alluvial sedimentation dynamics and the resulting stratigraphic architecture in time and space from a broad perspective. 展开更多

When we look back the contributions on submarine fans during the past 65 years (1950 -2015), the empirical data on 21 modern submarine fans and I0 ancient deep-water sys- tems, published by the results of the First COMFAN (Committee on FANs) Meeting (Bouma eta|., 1985a), have remained the single most significant compilation of data on submarine fans. The 1970s were the "heyday" of submarine fan models. In the 21st century, the general focus has shifted from submarine fans to submarine mass movements, internal waves and tides, and contourites. The purpose of this review is to illustrate the complexity of issues surrounding the origin and classification of submarine fans. The principal ele- ments of submarine fans, composed of canyons, channels, and lobes, are discussed using nine modern case studies from the Mediterranean Sea, the Equatorial Atlantic, the Gulf of Mexico, the North Pacific, the NE Indian Ocean (Bay of Bengal), and the East Sea (Korea). The Annot Sandstone (Eocene-Oligocene), exposed at Peira-Cava area, SE France, which served as the type locality for the "Bouma Sequence", was reexamined. The field details are documented in questioning the validity of the model, which was the basis for the turbidite- fan link. The 29 fan-related models that are of conceptual significance, developed during the period 1970-2015, are discussed using modem and ancient systems. They are: (I) the classic submarine fan model with attached lobes, (2) the detached-lobe model, (3) the channel-levee complex without lobes, (4) the delta-fed ramp model, (5) the gully-lobe model, (6) the suprafan lobe model, (7) the depositional lobe model, (8) the fan lobe model, (9) the ponded lobe model, (I0) the nine models based on grain size and sediment source, (11) the four fan models based on tectonic settings, (12) the Jackfork debrite model, (13) the basin-floor fan model, (14) supercritical and subcritical fans, and (15) the three types of fan reservoirs. Each model is unique, and the long-standing belief that submarine fans are composed of turbidites, in particular, of gravelly and sandy high-density turbi- dites, is a myth. This is because there are no empirical data to validate the existence of gravelly and sandy high-density turbidity currents in the modern marine environments. Also, there are no experimental documentation of true turbidity currents that can trans- port gravels and coarse sands in turbulent suspension. Mass-transport processes, which include slides, slumps, and debris flows (but not turbidity currenrs), are the most viable mechanisms for transporting gravels and sands into the deep sea. The prevailing notion that submarine fans develop during periods of sea-level lowstands is also a myth. The geologic reality is that frequent short-term events that last for only a few minutes to several hours or days (e.g., earthquakes, meteorite impacts, tsunamis, tropical cyclones, etc.) are more important in controlling deposition of deep-water sands than sporadic long- term events that last for thousands to millions of years (e.g., lowstand systems tract). Submarine fans are still in a stage of muddled turbidite paradigm because the concept of high-density turbidity currents is incommensurable. 展开更多
