Excessive blasting-induced vibration during drilling-and-blasting excavation of deep tunnels can trigger geological hazards and compromise the stability of both the rock mass and support structures. This study focused on the deep double-line Sejila Mountain tunnel to systematically analyze the spatial response of blasting-induced vibration and to develop a prediction model through field tests and numerical simulations. The results revealed that the presence of a cross passage significantly altered propagation paths and the spatial distribution of blasting-induced vibration velocity. The peak particle velocity(PPV)at the cross-passage corner was amplified by approximately 1.92 times due to wave reflection and geometric focusing.Blasting-induced vibration waves attenuated non-uniformly across the tunnel cross-section,where PPV on the blast-face side was 1.54–6.56 times higher than that on the opposite side.We propose an improved PPV attenuation model that accounts for the propagation path effect. This model significantly improved fitting accuracy and resolved anomalous parameter(k and a)estimates in traditional equations, thereby improving prediction reliability.Furthermore, based on the observed spatial distribution of blasting-induced vibration, optimal monitoring point placement and targeted vibration control measures for tunnel blasting were discussed. These findings provide a scientific basis for designing blasting schemes and vibration mitigation strategies in deep tunnels. 展开更多

Reinforced concrete(RC)columns are often subjected to off-central explosion due to the uncertainty of blast locations. However, few studies have focused on the dynamic response of RC columns under offcentral explosions.A field blast experiment was conducted under close-in explosion with varying detonation offset distances(0 m,0.5 m,and 1 m),the overpressure load and dynamic responses of the full-scale RC columns were measured.Compared with the centrally detonated condition,a relative offset distance of 1.67 decreases the maximum and residual deflections of the RC column by 16.8%and 21.4%,respectively,while increasing the maximum and residual support rotations by 24.7%and 17.8%.Based on the experimental results,a theoretical model was proposed that considers the detonation location and charge mass, boundary conditions, axial compression ratio and material properties. The theoretical model exhibited good agreement with the experimental results, with prediction errors below 10%for both maximum and residual deflection. The effects of parameters were analyzed, and it indicated that an increase in offset distance results in decreased maximum and residual deflections but an increased support angle, thereby exacerbating damage.Higher axial load ratio,span-depth ratio, and longitudinal reinforcement ratio reduce both deflections and support angle.Additionally,a rapid method to predict the maximum and residual deflection of RC columns under off-central blast loading was also proposed based on the Generalized Regression Neural Network(GRNN).Eleven features which related to the RC column properties and the blast characteristics were used in the training process of GRNN,and accurate predictions were achieved with prediction errors within 20%.This study fills the gap in predicting the dynamic response of RC columns under off-central explosion, providing valuable references for blast-resistant design. 展开更多

Structural damage detection is hard to conduct in large-scale civil structures due to enormous structural data and insufficient damage features. To improve this situation,a damage detection method based on model reduction and response reconstruction is presented.Based on the framework of two-step model updating including substructure-level localization and element-level detection, the response reconstruction strategy with an improved sensitivity algorithm is presented to conveniently complement modal information and promote the reliability of model updating. In the iteration process, the reconstructed response is involved in the sensitivity algorithm as a reconstruction-related item.Besides, model reduction is applied to reduce computational degrees of freedom(DOFs)in each detection step.A numerical truss bridge is modelled to vindicate the effectiveness and efficiency of the method. The results showed that the presented method reduces the requirement for installed sensors while improving efficiency and ensuring accuracy of damage detection compared to traditional methods. 展开更多

This paper examines an epidemic predator-prey model with prey dispersal and Holling type-II functional response. In this model, it is assumed that the predator population suffers a transmissible disease. By analyzing the corresponding characteristic equations, the local stability of each of feasible equilibria and the existence of Hopf bifurcations at the coexistence equilibrium is addressed. Using Lyapunov functionals and LaSalle's invariance principle, we obtained the sufficient conditions for the global stability of the trivial equilibrium, the predator-extinction equilibrium, the disease-free equilibrium and the coexistence equilibrium, respectively. The paper also includes numerical simulations to illustrate the analytical results. 展开更多

This paper proposed a RIME-VMD-BiLSTM surrogate model to rapidly and precisely predict the seismic response of a nonlinear vehicle-track-bridge(VTB)system.The surrogate model employs the RIME algorithm to optimize the variational mode decomposition(VMD)parameters(k and α)and the architecture and hyperparameter of the bidirectional long-and short-term memory network(BiLSTM).After comparing different combinations and optimization algorithms, the surrogate model was trained and used to analyze a typical 9-span 32-m high-speed railway simply supported bridge system.A series of numerical examples considering the vehicle speed, bridge damping, seismic intensity, and training strategy on the prediction effect of the surrogate model were conducted on the extended OpenSees platform. The results show that the BiLSTM model performed better than the LSTM model, whereas the prediction effects of the single-LSTM and BiLSTM models were relatively poor. With the introduction of the VMD and RIME optimization techniques, the prediction effect of the proposed RIME-VMD-BiLSTM model was excellent. The abovementioned factors had a significant influence on the seismic response of a VTB system but little impact on the prediction effect of the surrogate model. The proposed surrogate model exhibits notable transferability and robustness for predicting the VTB’s nonlinear seismic response. 展开更多

Recent studies have demonstrated a growing global interest in utilising agricultural waste to remediate wastewater. This stems from growing apprehensions about high levels of heavy metals, especially Pb^(2+)ions,in wastewater produced by industrial processes such as mining, paint production, oil refining, smelting, and electroplating. This study examined apple pomace’s Pb^(2+)ions adsorption from wastewater.Response Surface Methodology(RSM)was employed, utilising the central composite face-centred design(CCFD)with three variables:initial concentration(1-50 mg/L),adsorbent dosage(0.1-1 g),and particle size(75-425μm)to formulate a mathematical model for the biosorption of Pb^(2+)ions on apple pomace. An artificial neural network(ANN)was developed using data generated from the RSM design. The CCFD and ANN models showed considerable efficacy in the adsorption process, exhibiting correlation coefficient values of 0.9921 and 0.9999,respectively.The isotherm and kinetic studies were performed, and the Freundlich Isotherm model best fitted the equilibrium data, with a correlation coefficient of 0.972 and a qe of 5.145 mg/g.Additionally,the pseudo-second-order model proved to be the most appropriate for the kinetic data, with an R^(2)of 0.9996.These results confirm that apple pomace functions as an effective,low-cost,and environmentally and sustainably biosorbent for the removal of Pb^(2+)ions from wastewater. Both RSM and ANN models exhibited high predictive capability for the biosorption process. While ANN provides more flexibility in modelling complex non-linear relationships,it is prone to overfitting, particularly with limited datasets, and this was addressed through a 5-fold cross-validation technique. 展开更多

A response surface method was utilized for the finite element model updating of a cable-stayed bridge in this paper to establish a baseline finite element model(FEM)that accurately reflects the characteristics of the actual bridge structure.Firstly,an initial FEM was established by the large-scale finite element software ANSYS,and the modal analysis was carried out on the dynamic response measured by the actual bridge structural health monitoring system. The initial error was obtained by comparing the dynamic characteristics of the measured data with those of the initial finite element model. Then, the second-order complete polynomial was selected to construct the response surface model;the corrected parameters were chosen using the sensitivity method. The response surface model(RSM)was fitted under the test cases designed using the central composite design method. After constructing the objective function, the RSMwas optimized and iterated by the sequential quadratic programmingmethod to obtain the corrected FEM.Finally, the dynamic characteristics of the modified FEM were compared with those of the actual bridge to get the final error. The results show that the modified FEM simulates the dynamic characteristics of the actual cable-stayed bridges more accurately. 展开更多

This work reviews models and methods for determining the dynamic response of pavements to moving vehicle loads in the framework of continuum-based three dimensional models and linear theories. This review emphasizes the most representative models and methods of analysis in the existing literature and illustrates all of them by numerical examples.Thus,13 such examples are presented here in some detail. Both flexible and rigid(concrete)pavement models involving simple and elaborate cases with respect to geometry and material behavior are considered. Thus, homogeneous or layered half-spaces with isotropic or cross-anisotropic and elastic, viscoelastic or poroelastic properties are considered. The vehicles are modeled as simple point or distributed loads or discrete spring-mass-dashpot system moving with constant or variable velocity. The dynamic response of the above pavement-vehicle systems is obtained by analytical/numerical or purely numerical methods of solution.Analytical/numerical methods have mainly to do with Fourier transforms or complex Fourier series with respect to both space and time.Purely numerical methods involve the finite element method(FEM)and the boundary element method(BEM)working in time or frequency domain.Critical discussions on the advantages and disadvantages of the various pavement-vehicle models and their methods of analysis are provided and the effects of the main parameters on the pavement response are determined through parametric studies and presented in the examples. Finally, conclusions are provided and suggestions for future research are made. 展开更多

Natural soil generally exhibits significant transverse isotropy(TI)due to weathering and sedimentation, meaning that horizontal moduli differ from their vertical counterpart. The TI mechanical model is more appropriate for actual situations.Although soil exhibits material nonlinearity under earthquake excitation, existing research on the TI medium is limited to soil linearity and neglects the nonlinear response of TI sites.A 2D equivalent linear model for a layered TI half-space subjected to seismic waves is derived in the transformed wave number domain using the exact dynamic stiffness matrix of the TI medium. This study introduces a method for determining the effective shear strain of TI sites under oblique wave incidence, and further describes a systematic study on the effects of TI parameters and soil nonlinearity on site responses.Numerical results indicate that seismic responses of the TI medium significantly differ from those of isotropic sites and that the responses are highly dependent on TI parameters, particularly in nonlinear cases, while also being sensitive to incident angle and excitation intensity. Moreover, the differences in peak acceleration and waveform for various TI materials may also be amplified due to the strong nonlinearity. The study provides valuable insights for improving the accuracy of seismic response analysis in engineering applications. 展开更多

In this paper,a framework is established for nonlinear flutter and gust response analyses based on an efficient Reduced Order Model(ROM).The proposed method can be used to solve the aeroelastic response problems of wings containing geometric nonlinearities.A structural modeling approach presented herein describes the stiffness nonlinearities with a modal formulation. Two orthogonal spanwise modes describe the foreshortening effects of the wing.Dynamic linearization of the ROM under nonlinear equilibrium states is applied to a nonlinear flutter analysis, and the fully nonlinear ROM coupled with the non-planar Unsteady Vortex Lattice Method(UVLM)is applied to gust response analysis.Furthermore, extended Precise Integration Method(PIM)ensures accuracy of the dynamic equation solutions. To demonstrate applicability and accuracy of the method presented,a wind tunnel test is conducted and good agreements between theoretical and test results of nonlinear flutter speed and gust response deflection are reached. The method described in this paper is suitable for predicting the nonlinear flutter speed and calculating the gust responses of a large-aspect-ratio wing in time domain.Meanwhile, the results derived highlight the effects of geometric nonlinearities obviously. 展开更多

A numerical model of the steel catenary riser(SCR) is built based on the slender rod model. The slender rod model, which describes the behavior of the slender riser in terms of the center line position, can solve the geometrical nonlinearity effectively. In a marine environment, the SCR is under the combined internal flow and external loads, such as wave and current. A general analysis considers only the inertial force and the drag force caused by the wave and current. However, the internal flow has an effect on the SCR; it is essential to explore the dynamic response of the SCR with the internal flow. The SCR also suffers the lift force and the fluctuating drag force because of the current. Finite element method is utilized to solve the motion equations. The effects of the internal flow, wave and current on the dynamic response of the SCR are considered. The results indicate that the increase of the internal flow density leads to the decrease of the displacement of the SCR, while the internal flow velocity has little effect on the SCR. The displacement of the SCR increases with the increase of the wave height and period. And the increasing wave period results in an increase in the vibration period of the SCR. The current velocity changes the displacements of the SCR in x-and z-directions. The vibration frequency of the SCR in y-direction increases with the increase of the current velocity. 展开更多

One-dimensional blast response of continuous-density graded cellular rods was investigated theoretically and numerically. Analytical model based on the rigid-plastic hardening(R-PH) model was used to predict the blast response of density-graded cellular rods. Finite element(FE) analysis was performed using a new model based on the 3 D Voronoi technique. The FE results have a good agreement with the analytical predictions. The blast response and energy absorption of cellular rods with the same mass but different density distributions were examined under different blast loading. As a blast resistance structure, cellular materials with high energy absorption and low impulse transmit is attractive. However, high energy absorption and low impulse transmit cannot be achieved at the same time by changing the density distribution. The energy absorption capacity increases with the initial blast pressure and characteristic time of the exponentially decaying blast loading. By contract, when the blast loading exceeds the resistance capacity of cellular material, the transmitted stress will be enhanced which is detrimental to the structure being protected. 展开更多

Two non-probabilistic, set-theoretical methods for determining the maximum and minimum impulsive responses of structures to uncertain-but-bounded impulses are presented. They are, respectively, based on the theories of interval mathematics and convex models. The uncertain-but-bounded impulses are assumed to be a convex set, hyper-rectangle or ellipsoid. For the two non-probabilistic methods, less prior information is required about the uncertain nature of impulses than the probabilistic model. Comparisons between the interval analysis method and the convex model, which are developed as an anti-optimization problem of finding the least favorable impulsive response and the most favorable impulsive response, are made through mathematical analyses and numerical calculations. The results of this study indicate that under the condition of the interval vector being determined from an ellipsoid containing the uncertain impulses, the width of the impulsive responses predicted by the interval analysis method is larger than that by the convex model; under the condition of the ellipsoid being determined from an interval vector containing the uncertain impulses, the width of the interval impulsive responses obtained by the interval analysis method is smaller than that by the convex model. 展开更多

In the method, the modified CA model, which takes the role of deformation degree on nucleation behavior into consideration, is coupled with an adaptive response surface model (ARSM) to search for the optimum nucleation parameter. The DRX behavior of an oxygen free high conductivity (OFHC) copper with different initial grain sizes has been taken as an example to validate the model. Good agreement is found between the simulated and the experimental results, which demonstrates that the new method can effectively improve the simulation accuracy. 展开更多

Recent seismic events have raised concerns over the safety and vulnerability of reinforced concrete moment resisting frame "RC-MRF" buildings. The seismic response of such buildings is greatly dependent on the computational tools used and the inherent assumptions in the modelling process. Thus, it is essential to investigate the sensitivity of the response demands to the corresponding modelling assumption. Many parameters and assumptions are justified to generate effective structural finite element(FE) models of buildings to simulate lateral behaviour and evaluate seismic design demands. As such, the present study focuses on the development of reliable FE models with various levels of refinement. The effects of the FE modelling assumptions on the seismic response demands on the design of buildings are investigated. the predictive ability of a FE model is tied to the accuracy of numerical analysis; a numerical analysis is performed for a series of symmetric buildings in active seismic zones. The results of the seismic response demands are presented in a comparative format to confirm drift and strength limits requirements. A proposed model is formulated based on a simplified modeling approach, where the most refined model is used to calibrate the simplified model. 展开更多

Model reduction technique is usually employed in model updating process. In this paper, a new model updat- ing method named as cross-model cross-frequency response function (CMCF) method is proposed and a new iterative method associating the model updating method with the mo- del reduction technique is investigated. The new model up- dating method utilizes the frequency response function to avoid the modal analysis process and it does not need to pair or scale the measured and the analytical frequency re- sponse function, which could greatly increase the number of the equations and the updating parameters. Based on the traditional iterative method, a correction term related to the errors resulting from the replacement of the reduction ma- trix of the experimental model with that of the finite element model is added in the new iterative method. Comparisons be- tween the traditional iterative method and the proposed itera- tive method are shown by model updating examples of solar panels, and both of these two iterative methods combine the CMCF method and the succession-level approximate reduc- tion technique. Results show the effectiveness of the CMCF method and the proposed iterative method . 展开更多

A new hybrid coupled model(HCM) is presented in this study, which consists of an intermediate tropical Pacific Ocean model and a global atmospheric general circulation model. The ocean component is the intermediate ocean model(IOM)of the intermediate coupled model(ICM) used at the Institute of Oceanology, Chinese Academy of Sciences(IOCAS). The atmospheric component is ECHAM5, the fifth version of the Max Planck Institute for Meteorology atmospheric general circulation model. The HCM integrates its atmospheric and oceanic components by using an anomaly coupling strategy. A100-year simulation has been made with the HCM and its simulation skills are evaluated, including the interannual variability of SST over the tropical Pacific and the ENSO-related responses of the global atmosphere. The model shows irregular occurrence of ENSO events with a spectral range between two and five years. The amplitude and lifetime of ENSO events and the annual phase-locking of SST anomalies are also reproduced realistically. Despite the slightly stronger variance of SST anomalies over the central Pacific than observed in the HCM, the patterns of atmospheric anomalies related to ENSO,such as sea level pressure, temperature and precipitation, are in broad agreement with observations. Therefore, this model can not only simulate the ENSO variability, but also reproduce the global atmospheric variability associated with ENSO, thereby providing a useful modeling tool for ENSO studies. Further model applications of ENSO modulations by ocean–atmosphere processes, and of ENSO-related climate prediction, are also discussed. 展开更多

The application of leaching process to extracting Mn from a low-grade manganese ore was investigated using a software based design of experiments. Four main parameters, i.e. sulfuric acid concentration, oxalic acid concentration, time and temperature were considered in a central composite response surface design. The recoveries of Mn and Fe were selected as response of design. The optimum conditions under which the Mn and Fe recoveries were the highest and the time and temperature were the lowest were determined using statistical analysis and analysis of variance (ANOVA). The results showed that Mn and Fe recoveries were 93.44% and 15.72% under the optimum condition, respectively. Also, sulfuric acid concentration was the most effective parameter affecting the process. The amounts of sulfuric and oxalic acid were obtained to be 7% and 42.50 g/L in optimum condition and the best time and temperature were 65 min and 63 ℃. 展开更多
