The failure mechanism under vertical loading comprises a plane strain Prandti-type mechanism over the central part of the longer side, and the size of the mechanism gradually reduces at the ends of the longer side and over the shorter side as the corner of rectangular footing is being approached where the direction of soil motion remains normal to each corresponding side respectively. The failure mechanism under moment loading comprises a plane strain scoop sliding mechanism over the central part of the longer side, and the radius of scoop sliding mechanism increases linearly at the ends of the longer side. On the basis of the kinematic failure mechanisms mentioned above, the vertical ultimate bearing capacity and the ultimate bearing capacity against moment or moment ultimate bearing capacity are obtained by use of upper bound limit analysis theory. At the same time, numerical analysis results, Skempton' s results and Salgado et al. 's results are compared with this upper bound solution. It shows that the presented failure mechanisms and plastic limit analysis predictions are validated. In order to investigate the behaviors of undrained clay foundation beneath the rectangular footing subjected to the combined loadings, numerical analysis is adopted by virtue of the general-purpose FEM software ABAQUS, where the clay is assumed to obey the Mohr-Coulomb yielding criterion. The failure envelope and the ultimate bearing capacity are achieved by the numerical analysis results with the varying aspect ratios from length L to breadth B of the rectangular footing. The failure mechanisms of rectangular footing which are subjected to the combined vertical loading V and horizontal loading H (Vertical loading V and moment loading M, and horizontal loading H and moment loading M respectively are observed in the finite element analysis. ) is explained by use of the upper bound plasticity limit analysis theory. Finally, the reason of eccentricity of failure envelope in H-M loading space is given in this study, which can not be explained by use of the traditional ' swipe test'.展开更多

The loadings transferred to suction caissons include the eccentric lateral force induced by waves and self weight of the platform structure. However, under this kind of combined loading conditions, the failure mechanism of caissons with shallow embedment depths is quite different from conventional deep foundations or onshore shallow footings. The behaviour of caissons subjected to combined loadings may be described with the "failure locus" in force resultant spaces. The platform settlement and tilt limits are involved into determination of failure loci, thus the platforms can avoid significant displacements for the combined loadings located inside the failure locus. Three families of loading paths are used to map out the locus. It is found that the shape of failure loci depends on 3 non-dimensional parameters, and the failure locus of a given caisson changes gradually from the elliptical curve to hooked curve with increasing shear strength of soil. The lateral capacity of short caissons may be enhanced by vertical forces, compared with the maximum lateral capacity of long caissons occurring at the vertical force being zero. The critical embedment ratios partitioning elliptical and hooked loci are proposed.展开更多

One is under the conditions that the con-fining pressure is fixed and the axial pressure is changeable. The other is under the conditions that the confining pressure becomes and the axial pressure is fixed. It is found that samples break up evenly after impacting when axial static pressures are low, there is great disparity in size of fragments when axial static pressures are high, and the main bodies of samples after the tests under the combination of dy-namic and static loads frequently show the type of V or X. The samples are more close-grained at the elastic stage and impacts make many cracks be generated and developed, as makes samples more crackable. At the initial phase of damage stage, the static pressures make some cracks in the samples which are undeveloped and the impacts′ role is similar to that at the elastic stage. At the metaphase or anaphase of damage stage, these cracks in the samples develop adequately and the impacts mainly accelerate samples′ failure. The main bodies of samples show the type of V or X after impacting due to the confining pressures′ restraining samples′ lateral formation at the elastic stage or the initial phase of damage stage, the main bodies of samples have almost formed at the stage loading static pressures and the results after impacting usually are similar to those under the axial pressures tests.展开更多

Firstly, the limit state equations and design format for steel jacket platform structures are introduced. Then, the ratio of live load effect to dead load effect is estimated. The target reliabilities for design of offshore structures in China offshore area are calibrated by past practice in API RP2A-WSD code. The load and resistance factors are optimized by minimizing the difference within the target reliability and the resulting reliability over the range of load effect ratios. It is the key to carry out scale model test to establish a distortion model similar to the real ship structure under combined load. A similarity criterion for ship distortion model under the combined action of bending moment and surface pressure was proposed, and the scale effect for the criterion was verified by a se ries of numerical analysis and model tests. The results show that the similarity criterion for ship distor tion model under combined loads has a certain scale effect. The weak structure zone...This paper puts forward using high-pressure water jet technology to control rock burst in roadway, and analyzes the theory of controlling rock burst in roadway by the weak structure zone model. The weak structure zone is formed by using high-pressure water jet to cut the coal wall in a continuous and rotational way. In order to study the influence law of weak structure zone in surrounding rock, this paper numerically analyzed the influence law of weak structure zone, and the disturbance law of coal wall and floor under dynamic and static combined load. The results show that when the distance between high-pressure water jet drillings is 3 m and the diameter of drilling is 300 mm, continuous stress superposition zone can be formed. The weak structure zone can transfer and reduce the concentrated static load in surrounding rock, and then form distressed zone. The longer the high-pressure water jet drilling is, the larger the distressed zone is. The stress change and displacement change of non-distressed zone in coal wall and floor are significantly greater than that of distressed zone under dynamic and static combined load. And it shows that the distressed zone can effectively control rock burst in roadway under dynamic and static combined load. High-pressure water jet technology was applied in the haulage gate of 250203 working face in Yanbei Coal Mine, and had gained good effect. The study conclusions provide theoretical foundation and a new guidance for controlling rock burst in roadway.展开更多

Due to lack of corresponding design code, based on the analysis of its structure characteristics and application requirements, it is proposed to carry out load effect combination according to ultimate limit state and serviceability limit state, and the most unfavorable combination of each state is chosen to carry through design calculation for pile-slab structure. Space model of pile-slab structure can be simplified as a plane flame model, by using the orthogonal test method, and the design parameter of pile-slab structure is optimized. Moreover, based on the engineering background of Suining-Chongqing high-speed railway, the dynamic deformation characteristics of pile-slab structure roadbed are further researched by carrying on the indoor dynamic model test. The test results show that the settlement after construction of subgrade satisfies the requirement of settlement control to build ballastless track on soil subgrade for high-speed railway. Slab structure plays the role of arch shell as load is transmitted from slab to pile, and the vertical dynamic stress of subgrade soil is approximately of "K" form distribution with the depth. The distribution of pile stress is closely related to soil characteristics, which has an upset triangle shape where the large dynamic stress is at the top. Pile compared with soil shares most dynamic stress. Pile structure expands the depth of the dynamic response of subgrade has limited effect on dynamic response. These results can provide subgrade. and improves the stress of subgrade soil, and the speed of train scientific basis for pile-slab structure roadbed used on soil展开更多

文摘An empirical approach has been developed to analyze the nonlinear response of a pile group with arbitrarily distributed piles subjected to combined lateral and torsional loading. In this approach, the concept of instantaneous twist center is applied to analyze the displacement relationship of pile heads and establish the static equilibrium equations of the pile cap.The horizontal interaction among the individual piles is considered through the generalized p-multiplier.The coupling effect of lateral resistance on the torsional resistance of each pile is quantified using an empirical factorβ;the lateral and torsional nonlinear responses of individual piles are modeled by p-y andτ-θcurves,respectively.The proposed approach not only captures the most significant aspect of the group effect and coupling effect in a pile group subjected to combined lateral and torsional loading, but also automatically updates p-multipliers of individual piles based on pile cap displacements. The proposed approach was verified using results of model tests on pile groups subjected to lateral loading, torsional loading, and combined lateral and torsional loading, separately. In general, the pile cap response and the transfer of applied loads in the pile groups agree well with the test results.

文摘By means of the improved split Hopkionson pressure bar(SHPB) with axial pre-pressure and confined pressure, two series of experiments on sandstone are carried out to research the failure mode of rock during the course of exploitation of resources in deep. The main bodies of samples show the type of V or X after impacting due to the confining pressures′ restraining samples′ lateral formation at the elastic stage or the initial phase of damage stage, the main bodies of samples have almost formed at the stage loading static pressures and the results after impacting usually are similar to those under the axial pressures tests.
文摘Adopting the load and resistance factor design format, the design method for steel jaeket platform structures is developed. Considering the concurrence of different loads, load combination factors are obtained through an optimization process, and the relation between the load combination factor and load correlation coefficient is established. Finally, the design formulae for steel jacket structures in China offshore area are recommended.

文摘The combined loading tests of 5754 O aluminum alloy sheet are used to verify the yield function. Three yield functions are implemented into the commercial finite element model(FEM) code ABAQUS as a user material subroutine UMAT for the FEM simulation of the combined loading tests. The comparison of the simulating and experimental results shows that the modified Yld2000-2d yield function can describe the mechanical behavior of5754 O aluminum alloy sheet under combined loading paths reasonably while other three yield functions do not.The performance of the modified Yld2000-2d yield function on describing the mechanical behavior under combined loading paths is analyzed in detail. It is concluded that the modified Yld2000-2d yield function can be adopted to describe the deformation behavior of 5754 O aluminum alloy sheet for industrial applications.

文摘Ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene(UHMWPE)fiber composite has been extensively used to construct lightweight protective structures against ballistic impacts, yet little is known about its performance when subjected to combined blast and fragment impacts.Built upon a recently developed laboratory-scale experimental technique to generate simulated combined loading through the impact of a fragment-foam composite projectile launched from a light gas gun,the dynamic responses of fullyclamped UHMWPE plates subjected to combined loading were characterized experimentally, with corresponding deformation and failure modes compared with those measured with simulated blast loading alone.Subsequently,to explore the underlying physical mechanisms,three-dimensional(3D)numerical simulations with the method of finite elements(FE)were systematically carried out.Numerical predictions compared favorably well with experimental measurements, thus validating the feasibility of the established FE model.Relative to the case of blast loading alone, combined blast and fragment loading led to larger maximum deflections of clamped UHMWPE plates. The position of the FSP in the foam sabot affected significantly the performance of a UHMWPE target, either enhancing or decreasing its ballistic resistance. When the blast loading and fragment impact arrived simultaneously at the target, its ballistic resistance was superior to that achieved when subjected to fragment impact alone, and benefited from the accelerated movement of the target due to simultaneous blast loading.

文摘With regard to the structures subjected to severe mechanical-thermal coupling fatigue conditions, the consistency between service conditions and loading conditions was the prerequisite for the fatigue prop-erties test and fatigue life prediction.A miniature piezoelectric-driven instrument integrating with a tripodal piezoelectric actuator and envelope-type heating function was developed to investigate the mechanical-thermal coupling fatigue properties and obtain the fatigue life of materials under approximate service conditions.A physical model was described to quantitatively calculate the alternating deformation under the mechanical-thermal coupling tensile-bending combined condition.Accordingly,a fatigue life prediction method based on the Coffin-Manson equation under tensile-bending combined loading was proposed to estimate the mechanical-thermal coupling fatigue life in terms of the total coupling defor-mation and plastic strain amplitude. The feasibility of the proposed instrument was verified through the analysis of displacement responses of high entropy alloy specimens under the thermal-mechanical cou-pling tensile-bending combined condition at temperatures ranging from RT to 600°C.The comparison between fatigue lives directly measured through thermal-mechanical coupling experiments and theoreti-cally predicted fatigue lives indicated the availability of the modified Coffin-Manson equation.
文摘A new fracture criterion was proposed. The physical explanation of the criterion is that crack will propagate when the minimum strain energy density in iso hoop stress curve reach a critical strength of the material considered. The resulting curve of critical fracture of mixed mode cracks shows that the present fracture is efficient and more accurate than the previous criteria.
文摘For the ultimate strength model test evaluation of large ship structures, the distortion model with non-uniform ratio between the main size and the plate thickness size is usually adopted. For the model tests of ship cabin struc tures, it is suggested that the scale range between the plate thickness scale and the main dimension scale should be controlled within 2:1, which can be used as a reference for distortion model design and ultimate strength test of large-scale ship structures.

文摘As the demand and import of liquefied natural gas(LNG)increase, large LNG receiving stations are being constructed.LNG leakage can lead to fire or explosion accidents. The simultaneous occurrence of explosions and fires, often inevitable,is more damaging than the effect of a single load. This study utilizes finite element analysis software LS-DYNA and the ALE algorithm to examine the response characteristics and damage effects on large LNG storage tanks under the combined impact of explosion shock waves and high-temperature loads(with the explosion preceding the fire). The findings indicate that post-explosion,the concrete outer tank's compressive strength diminishes as temperatures rise. The dome deflection of the storage tank's external tank surpasses the standard limit at 400℃ and fails at 600℃.This research identifies the critical failure mode of the concrete storage tank's outer tank under the joint impact of explosion shock waves and fire.It provides a foundation for the anti-explosion design of such storage tanks.

文摘A marine riser, one of the most important components of offshore oil/gas transportation, needs to be designed to eliminate the risks caused by complex ocean environments, platform displacement and internal corrosion, etc. In this study,a new analytical-numerical assessment approach is proposed in order to quantitatively investigate the reliability of internally corroded risers under combined loads including axial tension and internal pressure.First,an analytical solution of the limit state function of intact risers under combined loads is obtained, which is further modified by the non-dimensional corrosion depth (d/ t) for the risers with a narrow and long corrosion defect. The relationship between d/t and limited internal pressure is obtained by finite element analysis and nonlinear regression.Through an advanced first-order reliability method (HL-RF) algorithm, reliability analysis is performed to obtain the failure probability, the reliability index and the sensitivity. These results are further verified by Monte-Carlo importance sampling. The proposed approach of reliability analysis provides an accurate and effective way to estimate the reliability of marine risers with narrow and long corrosion defects under combined loads.

文摘This paper puts forward using high-pressure water jet technology to control rock burst in roadway, and analyzes the theory of controlling rock burst in roadway by the weak structure zone model. The study conclusions provide theoretical foundation and a new guidance for controlling rock burst in roadway.

文摘Pile-slab structure roadbed is a new form of ballastless track for high speed railway. These results can provide subgrade. and improves the stress of subgrade soil, and the speed of train scientific basis for pile-slab structure roadbed used on soil
