The uplift resistance of the soil overlying shield tunnels significantly impacts their anti-floating stability. However, research on uplift resistance concerning special-shaped shield tunnels is limited. This study combines numerical simulation with machine learning techniques to explore this issue. It presents a summary of special-shaped tunnel geometries and introduces a shape coefficient.Through the finite element software,Plaxis3D,the study simulates six key parameters—shape coefficient, burial depth ratio, tunnel’s longest horizontal length, internal friction angle, cohesion, and soil submerged bulk density—that impact uplift resistance across different conditions.Employing XGBoost and ANN methods, the feature importance of each parameter was analyzed based on the numerical simulation results. The findings demonstrate that a tunnel shape more closely resembling a circle leads to reduced uplift resistance in the overlying soil, whereas other parameters exhibit the contrary effects.Furthermore, the study reveals a diminishing trend in the feature importance of buried depth ratio, internal friction angle, tunnel longest horizontal length, cohesion, soil submerged bulk density, and shape coefficient in influencing uplift resistance. 展开更多

Organoids possess immense potential for unraveling the intricate functions of human tissues and facilitating preclinical disease treatment.Their applications span from high-throughput drug screening to the modeling of complex diseases, with some even achieving clinical translation.Changes in the overall size, shape, boundary, and other morphological features of organoids provide a noninvasive method for assessing organoid drug sensitivity. However, the precise segmentation of organoids in bright-field microscopy images is made difficult by the complexity of the organoid morphology and interference, including overlapping organoids, bubbles, dust particles, and cell fragments. This paper introduces the precision organoid segmentation technique(POST),which is a deep-learning algorithm for segmenting challenging organoids under simple bright-field imaging conditions.Unlike existing methods,POST accurately segments each organoid and eliminates various artifacts encountered during organoid culturing and imaging.Furthermore,it is sensitive to and aligns with measurements of organoid activity in drug sensitivity experiments.POST is expected to be a valuable tool for drug screening using organoids owing to its capability of automatically and rapidly eliminating interfering substances and thereby streamlining the organoid analysis and drug screening process. 展开更多

Visible and infrared(RGB-IR)fusion object detection plays an important role in security, disaster relief, etc. In recent years,deep-learning-based RGB-IR fusion detection methods have been developing rapidly, but still struggle to deal with the complex and changing scenarios captured by drones, mainly due to two reasons:(A)RGB-IR fusion detectors are susceptible to inferior inputs that degrade performance and stability.(B)RGB-IR fusion detectors are susceptible to redundant features that reduce accuracy and efficiency. In this paper,an innovative RGB-IR fusion detection framework based on global-local feature optimization, named GLFDet,is proposed to improve the detection performance and efficiency of drone-captured objects. The key components of GLFDet include a Global Feature Optimization(GFO)module,a Local Feature Optimization(LFO)module and a Channel Separation Fusion(CSF)module.Specifically,GFO calculates the information content of the input image from the frequency domain and optimizes the features holistically. Then,LFO dynamically selects high-value features and filters out low-value features before fusion, which significantly improves the efficiency of fusion. Finally,CSF fuses the RGB and IR features across the corresponding channels, which avoids the rearrangement of the channel relationships and enhances the model stability.Extensive experimental results show that the proposed method achieves the best performance on three popular RGB-IR datasets Drone Vehicle,VEDAI,and LLVIP.In addition,GLFDet is more lightweight than other comparable models, making it more appealing to edge devices such as drones. The code is available at https://github.com/lao chen330/GLFDet. 展开更多

However, the response of global black carbon(BC) aging to emission changes remains unclear. Using the Community Atmosphere Model version 6 with a machine-learning-integrated four-mode version of the Modal Aerosol Module, we quantify global BC aging responses to emission reductions for 2011–2018 and for 2050 and 2100 under carbon neutrality. During 2011–18, global trends in BC aging degree(mass ratio of coatings to BC, R_(BC)) exhibited marked regional disparities, with a significant increase in China(5.4% yr^(-1)), which contrasts with minimal changes in the USA, Europe, and India. The divergence is attributed to opposing trends in secondary organic aerosol(SOA) and sulfate coatings, driven by regional changes in the emission ratios of corresponding coating precursors to BC(volatile organic compounds-VOCs/BC and SO_(2)/BC). Projections under carbon neutrality reveal that R_(BC) will increase globally by 47%(118%) in 2050(2100), with strong convergent increases expected across major source regions. The R_(BC) increase, primarily driven by enhanced SOA coatings due to sharper BC reductions relative to VOCs, will enhance the global BC mass absorption cross-section(MAC) by 11%(17%) in 2050(2100).Consequently, although the global BC burden will decline sharply by 60%(76%), the enhanced MAC partially offsets the magnitude of the decline in the BC direct radiative effect, resulting in the moderation of global BC DRE decreases to 88%(92%) of the BC burden reductions in 2050(2100). This study highlights the globally enhanced BC aging and light absorption capacity under carbon neutrality, thereby partly offsetting the impact of BC direct emission reductions on future changes in BC radiative effects globally. 展开更多

Underwater pipeline inspection plays a vital role in the proactive maintenance and management of critical marine infrastructure and subaquatic systems. However, the inspection of underwater pipelines presents a challenge due to factors such as light scattering, absorption, restricted visibility, and ambient noise. The advancement of deep learning has introduced powerful techniques for processing large amounts of unstructured and imperfect data collected from underwater environments. This study evaluated the efficacy of the You Only Look Once(YOLO)algorithm,a real-time object detection and localization model based on convolutional neural networks,in identifying and classifying various types of pipeline defects in underwater settings.YOLOv8,the latest evolution in the YOLO family, integrates advanced capabilities, such as anchor-free detection,a cross-stage partial network backbone for efficient feature extraction, and a feature pyramid network+path aggregation network neck for robust multi-scale object detection, which make it particularly well-suited for complex underwater environments.Due to the lack of suitable open-access datasets for underwater pipeline defects,a custom dataset was captured using a remotely operated vehicle in a controlled environment. This application has the following assets available for use.Extensive experimentation demonstrated that YOLOv8 X-Large consistently outperformed other models in terms of pipe defect detection and classification and achieved a strong balance between precision and recall in identifying pipeline cracks, rust, corners, defective welds, flanges, tapes, and holes. This research establishes the baseline performance of YOLOv8 for underwater defect detection and showcases its potential to enhance the reliability and efficiency of pipeline inspection tasks in challenging underwater environments. 展开更多

Flexible electronics face critical challenges in achieving monolithic three-dimensional(3D)integration,including material compatibility, structural stability, and scalable fabrication methods.Inspired by the tactile sensing mechanism of the human skin,we have developed a flexible monolithic 3D-integrated tactile sensing system based on a holey MXene paste, where each vertical one-body unit simultaneously functions as a microsupercapacitor and pressure sensor. The in-plane mesopores of MXene significantly improve ion accessibility, mitigate the self-stacking of nanosheets, and allow the holey MXene to multifunctionally act as a sensing material,an active electrode, and a conductive interconnect, thus drastically reducing the interface mismatch and enhancing the mechanical robustness.Furthermore,we fabricate a large-scale device using a blade-coating and stamping method, which demonstrates excellent mechanical flexibility,low-power consumption, rapid response, and stable long-term operation. As a proof-of-concept application,we integrate our sensing array into a smart access control system, leveraging deep learning to accurately identify users based on their unique pressing behaviors. This study provides a promising approach for designing highly integrated, intelligent, and flexible electronic systems for advanced human-computer interactions and personalized electronics. 展开更多

Freezing of gait is a significant and debilitating motor symptom often observed in individuals with Parkinson's disease.Resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging, along with its multi-level feature indices, has provided a fresh perspective and valuable insight into the study of freezing of gait in Parkinson's disease. It has been revealed that Parkinson's disease is accompanied by widespread irregularities in inherent brain network activity. However, the effective integration of the multi-level indices of resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging into clinical settings for the diagnosis of freezing of gait in Parkinson's disease remains a challenge.Although previous studies have demonstrated that radiomics can extract optimal features as biomarkers to identify or predict diseases,a knowledge gap still exists in the field of freezing of gait in Parkinson's disease. This cross-sectional study aimed to evaluate the ability of radiomics features based on multi-level indices of resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging, along with clinical features,to distinguish between Parkinson's disease patients with and without freezing of gait.We recruited 28 patients with Parkinson's disease who had freezing of gait(15 men and 13 women, average age 63 years)and 30 patients with Parkinson's disease who had no freezing of gait(16 men and 14 women, average age 64 years).Magnetic resonance imaging scans were obtained using a 3.0T scanner to extract the mean amplitude of low-frequency fluctuations, mean regional homogeneity, and degree centrality.Neurological and clinical characteristics were also evaluated. We used the least absolute shrinkage and selection operator algorithm to extract features and established feedforward neural network models based solely on resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging indicators. We then performed predictive analysis of three distinct groups based on resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging indicators indicators combined with clinical features.Subsequently,we conducted 100 additional five-fold cross-validations to determine the most effective model for each classification task and evaluated the performance of the model using the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve. The results showed that when differentiating patients with Parkinson's disease who had freezing of gait from those who did not have freezing of gait,or from healthy controls, the models using only the mean regional homogeneity values achieved the highest area under the receiver operating characteristic curve values of 0.750(with an accuracy of 70.9%)and 0.759(with an accuracy of 65.3%),respectively.When classifying patients with Parkinson's disease who had freezing of gait from those who had no freezing of gait, the model using the mean amplitude of low-frequency fluctuation values combined with two clinical features achieved the highest area under the receiver operating characteristic curve of 0.847(with an accuracy of 74.3%).The most significant features for patients with Parkinson's disease who had freezing of gait were amplitude of low-frequency fluctuation alterations in the left parahippocampal gyrus and two clinical characteristics:Montreal Cognitive Assessment and Hamilton Depression Scale scores. Our findings suggest that radiomics features derived from resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging indices and clinical information can serve as valuable indices for the identification of freezing of gait in Parkinson's disease. 展开更多

Cyclohexene is an important raw material in the production of nylon.Selective hydrogenation of benzene is a key method for preparing cyclohexene. However, the Ru catalysts used in current industrial processes still face challenges, including high metal usage, high process costs, and low cyclohexene yield. This study utilizes existing literature data combined with machine learning methods to analyze the factors influencing benzene conversion, cyclohexene selectivity, and yield in the benzene hydrogenation to cyclohexene reaction. It constructs predictive models based on XGBoost and Random Forest algorithms. After analysis,it was found that reaction time,Ru content, and space velocity are key factors influencing cyclohexene yield, selectivity, and benzene conversion.Shapley Additive Explanations(SHAP)analysis and feature importance analysis further revealed the contribution of each variable to the reaction outcomes.Additionally,we randomly generated one million variable combinations using the Dirichlet distribution to attempt to predict high-yield catalyst formulations. This paper provides new insights into the application of machine learning in heterogeneous catalysis and offers some reference for further research. 展开更多

The electrocatalytic reduction of nitric oxide for ammonia synthesis(NORR)is a key green energy conversion technology. Its efficiency relies on high-performance electrocatalysts to enhance both ammonia yield(Y_(NH3))and Faradaic efficiency(F_(NH3)).However,conventional experimental methods for screening high-activity NORR catalysts often entail high resource consumption and time costs.Machine learning combined with SHAP feature analysis was employed to establish a stacked ensemble model that integrates multiple algorithms,to allow for a systematic investigation of the key descriptors governing NORR performance based on an experimental dataset.Evaluation of eight model algorithms revealed that the Stacked-SVR model achieved an R^(2)of 0.9223 and an RMSE of 0.0608 for predicting on the test set, whereas the Stacked-RF model achieved an R^(2)of 0.9042 and an RMSE of 0.0900 for predicting. The stacked ensemble model integrates the strengths of individual algorithms and demonstrates strong NORR prediction performance while avoiding overfitting.SHAP feature analysis results revealed that the Cu content in the catalyst composition has the most significant impact on catalytic performance. Moreover, the combination of the wet chemical reduction synthesis,a carbon fiber(CF)conductive substrate, and HCl electrolyte is more favorable for enhancing catalytic activity.Additionally, moderately lowering the working potential, controlling the electrolyte volume at low to medium levels, reducing catalyst loading, and increasing electrolyte concentration were found to synergistically enhance both and. 展开更多

Gauss radial basis functions(GRBF)are frequently employed in data fitting and machine learning.Their linear independence property can theoretically guarantee the avoidance of data redundancy. In this paper, one of the main contributions is proving this property using linear algebra instead of profound knowledge. This makes it easy to read and understand this fundamental fact. The proof of linear independence of a set of Gauss functions relies on the constructing method for one-dimensional space and on the deducing method for higher dimensions.Additionally, under the condition of preserving the same moments between the original function and interpolating function, both the interpolating existence and uniqueness are proven for GRBF in one-dimensional space. The final work demonstrates the application of the GRBF method to locate lunar olivine.By combining preprocessed data using GRBF with the removing envelope curve method,a program is created to find the position of lunar olivine based on spectrum data, and the numerical experiment shows that it is an effective scheme. 展开更多

Diesel accounts for over 60%of the products derived from direct coal liquefaction(DCL).Compared to petroleum-based diesel,DCL diesel exhibits a cetane number ranging from 30 to 40,which fails to meet the automotive diesel standard requirement of≥45.Therefore,rapid and accurate analysis of its chemical composition is crucial for property optimization to meet fuel specifications by component blending.Thought traditional methods like gas chromatography offer high accuracy, they are unsuitable for rapid online analysis under industrial conditions.Near-infrared(NIR)spectroscopy can provide advantages in rapid,non-destructive analysis. Its application however,is limited by the complexity of spectral data interpretation.Machine learning(ML)is effective method for extracting valuable information from spectra and establishing high-precision prediction models. This study integrates NIR spectroscopy with ML to construct a spectral-composition database for DCL diesel.Feature extraction was performed using the correlation coefficient and mutual information methods to screen key wavelength variables and reduce data dimensionality.Subsequently, the predictive performance of three ML models—Lasso,SVR and XGBoost—was compared. Results indicate that excluding spectral data with absorbance greater than 1 significantly enhances model accuracy, increasing the test set R^(2) from 0.85 to 0.96.After feature extraction, the optimal number of wavelength variables was reduced to 177,substantially improving computational efficiency.Among the models evaluated, the SVR-MI-0.9 model, based on mutual information feature selection, demonstrated the best performance, achieving training and test set R^(2) values both exceeding 0.98.This model enables precise prediction of paraffin, naphthene, and aromatic hydrocarbon contents. This research provides a robust methodology for intelligent online quality monitoring. An intelligent NIR spectroscopy data analysis software was independently developed based on the established model.Compared with comprehensive two-dimensional gas chromatography, the software reduced the analysis time by over 98%,with an absolute prediction error below 0.2%.Thus,rapid analysis of DCL diesel components was successfully realized. 展开更多

The application and promotion of waste glass powder concrete(WGPC)cansignificantly alleviate the pressure of concrete material scarcity and environmental pollution.Compressive strength(CS)is a critical parameter for evaluating the efficacy of WGPC.Unlike conventional testing methods, machine learning techniques offer precise and reliable predictions of concrete’s compressive strength, especially in its long-term mechanical properties. In this work, four models, namely Multiple Linear Regression(MLR),Back Propagation Neural Network(BPNN),Support Vector Regression(SVR),and Random Forest Regression(RFR)were employed.Furthermore, particle swarm optimization(PSO)algorithm and cross-validation techniques were applied to fine-tune the model parameters, striving for peak prediction performance. The results indicated that optimized models generally exhibit enhanced predictive accuracy compared to their basic counterparts.Notably, the PSO-RFR model excels among all evaluated models, showcasing superior performance on the testing dataset. It achieves a coefficient of determination(R^(2))of 0.9231,a mean absolute error(MAE)of 2.1073,and a root mean square error(RMSE)of 3.6903.When compared to experimental results, the PSO-RFR and PSO-BPNN models demonstrate exceptional predictive accuracy.Notably, the PSO-BPNN model exhibits the closest R^(2)values between its training and test sets. This close alignment of R^(2)values between the training and testing sets reflects the PSO-BPNN model’s superior generalization ability for unseen data. The findings present an efficient method for predicting concrete’s compressive strength, contributing to the sustainable development of concrete materials, and providing theoretical support for their research and application. 展开更多

Split Learning(SL)has been promoted as a promising collaborative machine learning technique designed to address data privacy and resource efficiency.Specifically, neural networks are divided into client and server subnetworks in order to mitigate the exposure of sensitive data and reduce the overhead on client devices, thereby making SL particularly suitable for resource-constrained devices.Although SL prevents the direct transmission of raw data,it does not alleviate entirely the risk of privacy breaches. In fact, the data intermediately transmitted to the server sub-model may include patterns or information that could reveal sensitive data. Moreover, achieving a balance between model utility and data privacy has emerged as a challenging problem. In this article,we propose a novel defense approach that combines:(i)Adversarial learning, and(ii)Network channel pruning. In particular, the proposed adversarial learning approach is specifically designed to reduce the risk of private data exposure while maintaining high performance for the utility task.On the other hand, the suggested channel pruning enables the model to adaptively adjust and reactivate pruned channels while conducting adversarial training. The integration of these two techniques reduces the informativeness of the intermediate data transmitted by the client sub-model,thereby enhancing its robustness against attribute inference attacks without adding significant computational overhead, making it wellsuited for IoT devices, mobile platforms, and Internet of Vehicles(IoV)scenarios. The proposed defense approach was evaluated using EfficientNet-B0,a widely adopted compact model, along with three benchmark datasets. The obtained results showcased its superior defense capability against attribute inference attacks compared to existing state-of-the-art methods. This research’s findings demonstrated the effectiveness of the proposed channel pruning-based adversarial training approach in achieving the intended compromise between utility and privacy within SL frameworks. In fact, the classification accuracy attained by the attackers witnessed a drastic decrease of 70%. 展开更多

The Internet of Vehicles,or IoV,is expected to lessen pollution, ease traffic, and increase road safety.IoV entities’interconnectedness, however, raises the possibility of cyberattacks, which can have detrimental effects.IoV systems typically send massive volumes of raw data to central servers, which may raise privacy issues.Additionally, model training on IoV devices with limited resources normally leads to slower training times and reduced service quality. We discuss a privacy-preserving Federated Split Learning with Tiny Machine Learning(TinyML)approach, which operates on IoV edge devices without sharing sensitive raw data.Specifically,we focus on integrating split learning(SL)with federated learning(FL)and TinyML models.FL is a decentralisedmachine learning(ML)technique that enables numerous edge devices to train a standard model while retaining data locally collectively. The article intends to thoroughly discuss the architecture and challenges associated with the increasing prevalence of SL in the IoV domain, coupled with FL and TinyML.The approach starts with the IoV learning framework, which includes edge computing,FL,SL,and TinyML,and then proceeds to discuss how these technologies might be integrated. We elucidate the comprehensive operational principles of Federated and split learning by examining and addressingmany challenges. We subsequently examine the integration of SL with FL and various applications of TinyML.Finally, exploring the potential integration of FL and SL with TinyML in the IoV domain is referred to as FSL-TM.It is a superior method for preserving privacy as it conducts model training on individual devices or edge nodes, thereby obviating the necessity for centralised data aggregation, which presents considerable privacy threats. The insights provided aim to help both researchers and practitioners understand the complicated terrain of FL and SL,hence facilitating advancement in this swiftly progressing domain. 展开更多

Adversarial Reinforcement Learning(ARL)models for intelligent devices and Network Intrusion Detection Systems(NIDS)improve systemresilience against sophisticated cyber-attacks.As a core component of ARL,Adversarial Training(AT)enables NIDS agents to discover and prevent newattack paths by exposing them to competing examples, thereby increasing detection accuracy, reducing False Positives(FPs),and enhancing network security. To develop robust decision-making capabilities for real-world network disruptions and hostile activity,NIDS agents are trained in adversarial scenarios to monitor the current state and notify management of any abnormal or malicious activity. The accuracy and timeliness of the IDS were crucial to the network’s availability and reliability at this time. This paper analyzes ARL applications in NIDS,revealing State-of-The-Art(SoTA)methodology,issues,and future research prospects. This includes Reinforcement Machine Learning(RML)-based NIDS,which enables an agent to interact with the environment to achieve a goal, andDeep Reinforcement Learning(DRL)-based NIDS,which can solve complex decision-making problems.Additionally, this survey study addresses cybersecurity adversarial circumstances and their importance for ARL and NIDS.Architectural design,RL algorithms, feature representation, and training methodologies are examined in the ARL-NIDS study. This comprehensive study evaluates ARL for intelligent NIDS research, benefiting cybersecurity researchers, practitioners, and policymakers. The report promotes cybersecurity defense research and innovation. 展开更多

Knowledge distillation has become a standard technique for compressing large language models into efficient student models, but existing methods often struggle to balance prediction accuracy with explanation quality.Recent approaches such as Distilling Step-by-Step(DSbS)introduce explanation supervision, yet they apply it in a uniform manner that may not fully exploit the different learning dynamics of prediction and explanation. In this work,we propose a task-structured curriculum learning(TSCL)framework that structures training into three sequential phases:(i)prediction-only,to establish stable feature representations;(ii)joint prediction-explanation,to align task outputs with rationale generation;and(iii)explanation-only,to refine the quality of rationales. This design provides a simple but effective modification to DSbS,requiring no architectural changes and adding negligible training cost.We justify the phase scheduling with ablation studies and convergence analysis, showing that an initial prediction-heavy stage followed by a balanced joint phase improves both stability and explanation alignment.Extensive experiments on five datasets(e-SNLI,ANLI,CommonsenseQA,SVAMP,and MedNLI)demonstrate that TSCL consistently outperforms strong baselines, achieving gains of+1.7-2.6 points in accuracy and 0.8-1.2 in ROUGE-L,corresponding to relative error reductions of up to 21%.Beyond lexical metrics, human evaluation and ERASERstyle faithfulness diagnostics confirm that TSCL produces more faithful and informative explanations.Comparative training curves further reveal faster convergence and lower variance across seeds.Efficiency analysis shows less than 3%overhead in wall-clock training time and no additional inference cost, making the approach practical for realworld deployment. This study demonstrates that a simple task-structured curriculum can significantly improve the effectiveness of knowledge distillation.By separating and sequencing objectives,TSCL achieves a better balance between accuracy, stability, and explanation quality. The framework generalizes across domains, including medical NLI,and offers a principled recipe for future applications in multimodal reasoning and reinforcement learning. 展开更多

Multimodal emotion recognition has emerged as a key research area for enabling human-centered artificial intelligence, supported by the rapid progress in vision, audio, language, and physiological modeling.Existing approaches integrate heterogeneous affective cues through diverse embedding strategies and fusion mechanisms, yet the field remains fragmented due to differences in feature alignment, temporal synchronization, modality reliability, and robustness to noise or missing inputs. This survey provides a comprehensive analysis of MER research from 2021 to 2025,consolidating advances in modality-specific representation learning,cross-modal feature construction, and early, late, and hybrid fusion paradigms. We systematically review visual, acoustic, textual, and sensor-based embeddings, highlighting howpre-trained encoders,self-supervised learning, and large languagemodels have reshaped the representational foundations ofMER.We further categorize fusion strategies by interaction depth and architectural design, examining how attention mechanisms,cross-modal transformers, adaptive gating, and multimodal large language models redefine the integration of affective signals. Finally,we summarize major benchmark datasets and evaluation metrics and discuss emerging challenges related to scalability, generalization, and interpretability. This survey aims to provide a unified perspective onmultimodal fusion for emotion recognition and to guide future research toward more coherent and generalizable multimodal affective intelligence. 展开更多
