Influence of Farmer Capacity Building in Institutional Linkages on Performance of Smallholder Irrigation Projects in Migori County, Kenya

The smallholder irrigation sector in Kenya is considered inadequately developed. The study views unawareness of critical success factors in the smallholder irrigation sector as contributing to poor performance of smallholder irrigation projects. Consequently, the study investigated influence of farmer capacity building in institutional linkages on performance of smallholder irrigation projects in Migori County, Kenya. The study embraced a pragmatic view of philosophy, and used cross sectional and correlation research design. The target population was 2815, and comprised farmers drawn from fifteen smallholder irrigation projects that receive water from River Kuja through Lower Kuja Project. The sample size was 341. The study used systematic random sampling procedure to draw the sample, and collected data using questionnaire. Data was analysed using descriptive and inferential statistics. The study established that farmer capacity building in institutional linkages has a significant influence on performance of smallholder irrigation projects (r = 0.803, R<sup>2</sup> = 0.645, F (5, 331) = 120.254 and p < 0.000 < 0.05). Thus, the study recommends that Migori County Government come up with policies that link smallholder irrigation projects in Lower Kuja Project to institutions that provide land ploughing services, certified seeds and fertilisers, control of crop pests and diseases, transportation of farm produce and marketing of farm produce. 展开更多

Small-scale farmland water conservancy projects are crucial infrastructure for ensuring agricultural production and enhancing water resource utilization efficiency,with their water-saving benefits directly linked to national food security and sustainable agricultural development.This study focuses on small-scale farmland water conservancy projects in China,identifying issues such as aging facilities,outdated technology,and management deficiencies through field research and data analysis.Targeted pathways for enhancing water-saving efficiency are proposed from three dimensions:engineering technology optimization,management mechanism innovation,and policy support.Research indicates that by promoting efficient water-saving technologies,establishing a diversified management model,and improving policy incentive mechanisms,the irrigation water utilization coefficient of small-scale farmland water conservancy projects can be increased by 0.1-0.15,and water consumption per unit area of farmland can be reduced by 15-20%.The findings provide theoretical references and practical guidance for the quality improvement and water-saving enhancement of small-scale farmland water conservancy projects in China. 展开更多

At present, Shandong has stepped up the construction of irrigation and water conservancy projects, the main purpose of which is to adjust water resources to meet the needs of crop growth, but there is still a serious waste of water resources. Shandong Province is internationally recognized as an "extremely water-deficient area", and the water demand for agricultural irrigation is large and waste is serious. Therefore, it is necessary to play the guiding role of the concept of energy conservation and emission reduction, and adopt efficient water-saving irrigation technology to create higher economic benefits and realize the efficient use of water resources. This paper investigates the wireless communication with a novel architecture of antenna arrays,termed modular extremely large-scale array(XLarray),where array elements of an extremely large number/size are regularly mounted on a shared platform with both horizontally and vertically interlaced modules.Each module consists of a moderate/flexible number of array elements with the inter-element distance typically in the order of the signal wavelength,while different modules are separated by the relatively large inter-module distance for convenience of practical deployment.By accurately modelling the signal amplitudes and phases,as well as projected apertures across all modular elements,we analyse the near-field signal-to-noise ratio(SNR)performance for modular XL-array communications.Based on the non-uniform spherical wave(NUSW)modelling,the closed-form SNR expression is derived in terms of key system parameters,such as the overall modular array size,distances of adjacent modules along all dimensions,and the user's three-dimensional(3D)location.In addition,with the number of modules in different dimensions increasing infinitely,the asymptotic SNR scaling laws are revealed.Furthermore,we show that our proposed near-field modelling and performance analysis include the results for existing array architectures/modelling as special cases,e.g.,the collocated XL-array architecture,the uniform plane wave(UPW)based far-field modelling,and the modular extremely large-scale uniform linear array(XL-ULA)of onedimension.Extensive simulation results are presented to validate our findings. 展开更多

犬木塘水库工程灌区作为解决衡邵干旱走廊水资源短缺的关键工程,面临多水源联合调度复杂、作物需水动态性强及旱情预警精度要求高等挑战,因此融合知识图谱与大语言模型(LLM)技术,构建灌区智能化管理系统。依据水利行业标准,定义河流、... 犬木塘水库工程灌区作为解决衡邵干旱走廊水资源短缺的关键工程,面临多水源联合调度复杂、作物需水动态性强及旱情预警精度要求高等挑战,因此融合知识图谱与大语言模型(LLM)技术,构建灌区智能化管理系统。依据水利行业标准,定义河流、枢纽、灌区等6类核心实体及19种实体关系,采用统一信息抽取框架实现高精度知识抽取,基于多源异构数据构建包含621个实体的灌区知识图谱,并基于Neo4j图数据库完成存储与可视化查询。通过LangChain框架与ChatGLM2-6B模型开发智能问答系统,利用LoRA(低秩自适应)高效微调技术优化模型参数,问答准确率达92%。同时,设计知识图谱与LLM融合机制,通过意图解析生成Cypher查询提取相关子图,转化为自然语言后与用户问题拼接,为水利专业知识理解与回答提供基础支撑。研究成果可为灌区管理场景的知识查询与决策分析提供参考。 展开更多

为解决大型灌区工程安全检测中人工巡检效率低、主观性强及隐患识别滞后等问题,以亭子口灌区一期工程为研究对象,设计并构建基于机器视觉的多场景安全检测系统。通过现场摄像头视频采集、项目部既有数据整理及网络公开数据爬取构建训练... 为解决大型灌区工程安全检测中人工巡检效率低、主观性强及隐患识别滞后等问题,以亭子口灌区一期工程为研究对象,设计并构建基于机器视觉的多场景安全检测系统。通过现场摄像头视频采集、项目部既有数据整理及网络公开数据爬取构建训练集,引入GridMask图像增强技术对训练集进行优化;采用基于小目标检测分支与SE注意力机制模块改进的YOLOv8模型、ByteTrack算法,实现安全帽检测、人员追踪、机械类型识别及人机碰撞预警功能。项目验证结果表明:(1)该多场景安全检测系统准确率达82%;(2)各算法模型在指定的不同施工区域中展现出较好的鲁棒性与准确率,其中,安全帽检测算法准确率达89%,相比原始基准YOLOv8模型,改进模型的准确率、召回率和mAP50(B)等关键指标均有提升;(3)人械之间、机械之间的多动态碰撞预警模型准确率达到75%,弥补了传统人工经验式巡检对碰撞距离判断偏差问题。该研究在项目的实际检测验证有效提升了亭子口灌区工程安全管理的智能化水平,可以为大型灌区工程安全检测智能化发展提高科学参考。 展开更多

The anaerobic digestion(AD)disposal of stover and cattle manure is of great significance to the development of low-carbon economy and green energy in China,but it will also have an impact on the environment,and the degree of influence is different for various raw materials.In this study,life cycle assessment(LCA)methods were applied to analyze and compare the impact of corn stovers biogas projects(CSBP)and dairy manure biogas projects(DMBP)on the environment during the whole operation stage.The results of inventory analysis were evaluated by ReCiPe2016 Hierarchy(H)mid-point(problem-oriented)and end-point(destruction-oriented)method,respectively.The results showed that the net energy efficiency of CSBP was higher(763.903 kW·h/FU)and the greenhouse gas(GHG)emission reduction of DMBP was more(5541.418 kg CO_(2)-eq/FU).The anaerobic digestion(AD)units have the greatest environmental impacts,and human carcinogenic toxicity is the largest environmental impact category(1.16-1.43 PE).The key to reducing environmental impact is reducing the input of chemical substances and the waste of electric energy.Both CSBP and DMBP have a favorable impact on ecosystem quality and resources,and CSBP is more beneficial to the environment(-10.297 Pt).Co-digestion is an important measure to reduce the environmental damage from biogas projects.These research results provide theoretical support for the selection of raw materials for large-scale biogas projects in China,provide technical basis for reducing the impact of actual operation on the environment,and promote the resource utilization of agricultural waste and carbon dioxide emission reduction and sequestration. 展开更多

West Route of South-North Water Transfer Project,situated in southeastern Qinghai-Tibet Plateau,is a giant project,which will deliver 17 billion m3 of water from the main stream and tributaries upstream of the Yangtze River to the upper reaches of the Yellow River. It is to be constructed in 3 stages, of which the 1st stage project includes delivering 4 billion m3 of water by gravity from two tributaries of Yalong River and three tributaries of Dadu River. The project consists of 5 dams,7 tunnels and a channel in series,with the dam height of 63~123 m and water transfer length of 260.3 km,of which the tunnels measure 244.1 km. The special climatic,environmental and geologic conditions make the project much more complicated in construction,especially 3 tunnels with the length longer than 50 km each create challenges to the technical requirements of engineering survey,design and construction. 展开更多
